Is your child struggling with reading comprehension? Read on to find out some of our suggestions for apps that can help.
I was lucky as a child. I loved to read, and I still do, though a lot of my reading is done through Audible now because I find myself too busy to read books. But I know many children struggle with reading and reading comprehension, which is why I wanted to offer this guide to show parents some apps that they can use to help children who struggle with comprehension.
The first thing you want to do is find an app that makes it fun for your child to learn. School can be boring (think "History of Magic" class in Harry Potter, for example) if you don't find a fun way to encourage kids to learn. But if you find an app that makes it a game, this can help your child enjoy it, so they don't even know they're learning (shhh!). I recommend an app such as Reading Comprehension Fun Game. This app is full of fun activities that are age-appropriate and can help your child with their reading comprehension skills.
The next thing that you can do is to encourage your child to create their own stories. I remember when my friend's son was young, another friend of ours had an elf that let you create a story. It was kind of like Mad Libs, and it was hilarious. IN fact, it was so funny that my friend never recorded over it.
You never know what a child will come up with, and some of the things are just priceless. An app like Kids Story Builder can let your child's imagination go wild, and as their reading comprehension grows, you can see how they improve with this app.
Finally, one of the best ways that you can get your child to have better reading comprehension is simply to encourage them to read. If your child doesn't have the attention span to sit down with their tablet and actually read the words themselves, using an app such as Audible to listen to books will also be fine. Get them books that pique their interest, whatever it may be, and it will help their reading comprehension.
It's my sincere hope that your child develops a love for reading because I've spent many fond hours as a child and as an adult using books to get whisked away to magical lands, scary houses, and more without leaving my house. The gift of a love of reading and understanding what they read will last a lifetime for your child. It will also help them do well in school and beyond.
