Humans have an innate talent and need to build and create. It is a driving force that has brought us to where we are now. It will also likely continue to propel us forward into the future. Such mental stimulation is not only useful but also very fun. It is then no wonder that crafting and building games are getting more popular by the minute. Some, like Minecraft, are already classics, while others are only trying to catch the attention of the fun-loving public.

If you already know a thing or two about these apps, your choice will be comparatively easy. If, however, you are just entering the wonderful world of virtual crafting, you might want to turn to a game that has a strong tutorial feature and can give you a thorough introduction to the basics of the play.

Crafting and building games can be a source of entertainment for the whole family. Ask yourself - are you looking to play alone, with a partner, or with your kids? The age of the players can be an important factor and something you might want to take into account when selecting an app. Some games are better suited for adults, while other titles could be best for toddlers or school-aged children.

Crafting and building games involve using quite a few different materials to turn your visions into reality. In-game money isn't too difficult to come by, and in most cases, you will be able to get a hold of some gold by either performing a few tasks or robbing someone. Since robbery is something that is very much frowned upon in the real world, you will want to find a different way to deal with paying for apps.

One possible route is to opt for free software. This will allow you to enjoy most of the features without so much as spending a dime. Some functionality may, however, be limited and a few ads could pop up here and there. Still, if you aim to save, you will get used to these in a matter of days.

Some players, however, will always expect access to advanced features. If you are among them, you might want to think about paying. After all, the investment won't be a massive one. In fact, most apps will cost less than $5 but will unlock an endless selection of options that will boost your creativity to new heights. This could be particularly great for games that combine elements of play from other genres, such as survival adventure games or RPGs. You do, after all, get what you pay for.

Crafting and building games are an amazing creative outlet, not just for the players but also for the developers. They allow for an almost endless array of ideas to be incorporated into the core premise so, even if one kind of game starts getting a bit boring, you can always switch to another and have a completely different experience. House and city building apps are, of course, the most common, but there is a lot more to consider.

Some games will offer you a chance to play with different gadgets and contraptions, building impossible creations, and setting them into motion to perform the most bizarre tasks. Starting with the now 30-year-old Incredible Machine, this sub-genre is something that could keep you glued to the screen for hours.

If, on the other hand, you want to build and manage something more complicated, an app that allows you to run a theme park could be an excellent option. With all the features unlocked, this kind of terrain-modifying, base building game can practically guarantee hours of fun.

With the software made for children, there will also often be a clear distinction between apps made for boys and girls. If you're selecting a game for your little ones, you will always want to consider the type of play they gravitate towards the most. This will make their time spend on their tablet or console even more fun.

In addition to widely different themes, crafting and building games are extremely flexible and can easily blend into other genres. Their main mechanism partially rests on a simulation-type play, allowing the user to create and run an efficient city, theme park, or household. Still, there is a lot more to explore.

Strategies, in particular, have, in recent years, adopted quite a few features from the building genre, and it is now comparatively easy to find an app that has the qualities of both styles of play in equal amounts. You can build a base, construct a fortress, devise a strategy to defend it, and take care of its inhabitants' daily lives - all within the same app.

Arguably the most popular today are role-playing games. These are also comparatively easy to merge with other styles, so looking for a title that blends these with the crafting and building premise shouldn't be too hard a task. Even an app that works on both Android and iOS devices should be an easy find.

Many people today still prefer to play on their own, but as time goes by, more and more gamers are turning towards the multiplayer option. Crafting and building games have taken full advantage of this. Their open-ended scenarios and sandbox-style play make them perfect for the inclusion of as many players as possible. If you wish to have a virtual adventure with your close friends in a closed and secure network, you should be able to do so with ease.

The same applies to finding an app that will let you join a much bigger pool of enthusiasts, and enjoy your time interacting with people from across the world. Being included in such an online community could inspire you to be even more creative and really show off your skills as a builder in the virtual world.

Last but not least, there is one more variable to take into account. Regardless of whether you like to play survival games or city-building sims, you should always make sure that the app of your choice will work on every and any device you may own. An Android tablet, a PS4, or a PC - you should be able to enjoy your favorite app on whichever platform you have.

    • I got this game years ago but stopped playing for 2 years . I had recently re-downloaded it and realized it had new skin packs and a Minecraft option to upload your own skin . Now I was thinking , “I don’t have Minecraft on this device but let me see if I can download a skin to my camera roll (I have the iPhone 7 Plus) and see if it works.” It did not but I would like that to be an option to download skins for the game because the same skin options are getting boring . Also I would think it’s cool if there were interaction options just like survival mode . When playing on multiplayer (online) u have to use a figure of imagination for role playing . It would be amazing if you added interactions like sitting, eating, sleeping, etc . Also for each world there should be night and day like in real life to make it more realistic . Just like survival mode, day to night . For example, it’s day for like 12 minutes and night for 12 minutes . It makes roleplaying more fun and realistic . Then again, I love this game and have been playing it for years now but improvements and add-ons would expand the platform !
