What is the PMP Exam
The Project Management Professionals (PMP) exam is a method of determining a professional's ability to manage projects. Project managers are to prove that they can apply certain principles and guidelines in executing projects. Successful candidates are PMP certified, indicating that they meet the standard set by the project management institute (PMI).
Over 200 countries take the PMP exams, and there are close to 1 million active PMP certified individuals worldwide. The exam is complex and lengthy, with tricky and challenging questions to answer. This comprehensive design is to meet the needs of organizations globally. The study process takes hours, and many candidates don't ace the exam in their first attempt due to the difficulty level.
Despite the exam's toughness, getting the PMP certification offers a rewarding career. A certified holder gets set apart in a team and earns higher than their uncertified counterpart. They are sought after by employers as their knowledge can boost a company's revenue. The benefits of this lifelong learning make the exam worth attempting.
Who Is Eligible to Write the PMP Exam?
The PMI has some eligibility requirements that a candidate must meet to apply and sit for the exam. These requirements fall under two groups.
● Secondary degree (high school diploma, associate's degree or equivalent)
● Five years (60 months) of non-overlapping professional project management experience
● 7,500 of leading & directing projects
● 35 contact hours of formal project management education/training
● Bachelor's degree or equivalent
● Three years (36 months) of non-overlapping professional project management experience
● 4,500 of leading & directing projects
● 35 hours of formal project management education and training
PMI doesn't request for supporting documents during the application process. However, after application, they'll conduct a random audit of applicants and ask for these documents. Meeting these prerequisites is the first step on your journey to being a certified project manager.
The PMP Examination Process
The PMI's global network of testing centers provides the PMP examination as a computer-based process. There is a paper-based option for candidates in locations without Prometric facilities. The PMP exam consists of 200 questions from the PMI's project management body of knowledge (PMBOK) and code of ethics. These questions test a candidate's ability in five aspects of projects.
● Initiation (13%)
● Planning (24%)
● Execution (31%)
● Monitoring and control (25%)
● Closing (7%)
The numbers in parentheses indicate the percentage of questions from each aspect. From the 200 questions, 25 are not part of the scores and are only to enhance the examination's difficulty. The total score is on the other 175 items. There is a maximum of 4 hours to attempt all questions, and each question consists of four options.
Candidates who take the test in Prometric centers will receive their results immediately. Those who take the test as paper-based will receive their results within 4 weeks. The results will show a candidate's proficiency level in four ways.

How to Prepare for the PMP Exam Using Apps
To successfully pass the PMP exam, candidates spend several hours studying. They try to cover the PMBOK guide and other relevant textbooks through personal and group studying. Some candidates go through online and onsite prep workshops and discussion forums. They also incorporate flashcards to aid the learning process.
While all of these methods are successful, using PMP prep apps can enhance a candidate's study process. Since there are several aspects to cover, these apps provide a structure for the candidate to follow. They function like classroom planning apps, aiding the organization, and the flow of the prep materials.
You can access the latest version of the PMBOK guide and take the practice questions on some of these apps. You can also monitor your progress to know how much you've covered. Whether you're stuck in traffic or sitting in the park, you can whip out your mobile device and use your prep app.
