Challenge Yourself & Others in Word Battle Games

Roll the Dice & Take a Chance

First of all, when you think of dice, you probably think of blocks with little dots on them. But, you might be surprised to know that there are dice that have letters on them as well. In 1978, Milton Bradley came out with Word Yahtzee, combining players' love of Yahtzee with the popularity of Scrabble. Players rolled the seven lettered dice up to three times and tried to make words with the letters.

If this sounds like a fun game to you, there is an app that allows you to play against other people in this same way. The app is called Wordzee, and just like in the physical game, you roll seven dice up to three times and try to create the best words possible. The main difference is with the app there are multipliers to allow you to score big. There is even an option that allows you to play an instant game, so you don't have to wait for your opponent to show up and accept your game challenge.

Challenge Others on the Board

Now, when you think of word games, probably one of the games that come to mind is Scrabble. This game has been around since 1933 when it was invented by Hasbro. It's been played by millions of people around the world, and there are even official tournaments and a Scrabble dictionary.

Whether you are always looking for people to play this game with you or you just want a challenge beyond your friends and family, you'll be happy to know that there are plenty of app options to get your word game fix. Two of the most popular options are Scrabble, of course, and Words With Friends. Both of these games give you a rack with seven letters.

Above all, you can challenge yourself and play hard games against some of the best players in the world.

Spin the Wheel & Avoid Bankrupt

Furthermore, those who love word games and game shows should know of a game show that has been around for a long time and combines these two things. This show is named Wheel of Fortune, and it was invented by Merv Griffin, premiering on January 6, 1975. Officially hosted by Chuck Woolery to start, then after 1981, it was hosted by Pat Sajak.

If you have always wanted to be on this show, but you have never had the chance, you can spin the wheel and choose your letter with apps. First, there's The Wheel of Fortune XD and Wheel of Fortune Free Play. Just make sure that you avoid the bankrupt space when you are playing, and you may win big. These two games are a lot of fun and can give you a challenge when you're looking for something new to play on your phone.

Be Careful & Don't Get Hung

Next, let's think back to your childhood. Chances are you remember playing a game with a piece of paper where you had to guess letters and figure out the puzzle so your man didn't hang on the gallows. Otherwise, the game would be over and you would lose.

Now you can play Hangman anywhere and anytime even if you don't have a pencil and paper, with apps. For instance, you can play Hangman with hints! This game can be played by kids and adults. Another app that you can download is Hangman Multiplayer - Online Word Game. This game lets you challenge yourself against many people of all skills.

Connect Letters

Finally, there are plenty of games that you can play where you connect letters to form words. One of the most popular types of games is when the letters are in something like a soup bowl or a plate and you have so many words of three,  four, and five letters to form. However, there are also bonus words that you can find, that although they aren't on the board, aren't wrong. Letter Soup is one of the apps we recommend.

We've already discussed Scrabble. Another popular game that you can play either as a physical board game or on an app is Boggle. We have two recommendations for apps to play this well-known game - Boggle with Friends by Zynga and Boggle My Way. These two games have you connect the letters together to form words and challenge yourself. With Boggle My Way, you have the option to play by yourself or against another person.

The apps that we have mentioned here are just a small sampling of the options available to you on your phone or tablet. Whether you prefer an Android tablet or an Apple iPhone 11, you will find lots of options to play offline and online. Even if you have trouble finding people to play against you at home because you are too good or because they just don't have the time, apps will be the solution you want.

Check out our list of apps below and see what we suggest. We are sure that you will find something that you will enjoy playing.
