5 Tips on Choosing the Best Weight Training App

Last updated:

Weight training is a great way to get your body in shape, keep your heart healthy, and make you feel strong. But you don't have to spend lots of money to learn how to lift properly. You can learn all about weight training through apps and online resources. That way, you can enjoy your new fitness hobby safely and start feeling strong and healthy.

With all the different workout routines out there, it can be hard to decide on what exercise will provide the results you are looking for. So the best thing to do would be to do a bit of research on the different types of workouts and the benefits each focus on. For example, you'll want to learn about the advantages of a weight training program versus a cardio-focused style exercise, or even yoga. You'll find that weight training is a preferred method of exercise for many due to the plentiful benefits to the body. For instance, not only does weight training allow you to simultaneously build muscle and burn fat, but it actually helps you to burn fat all day, even when you're not working out. Also, weight training is incredibly good for your heart, and you don't have to work out for hours to get the benefits. Only an hour a week greatly reduces the risk of heart-related problems.

Now that you have completed your research and have decided to give weight training a try, you'll need to learn how to properly lift weights so you don't end up hurting yourself. It is crucial in weight training to have the proper form when picking up weights, otherwise, you could do damage instead of strengthening your body. But with the help of apps and online resources, you don't necessarily need to shell out loads of money on a personal trainer to teach you the practical skills of lifting. So you'll want to look for an app for beginners that includes step by step instructions on different lifting exercises. For instance, an app with video tutorials of a person conducting each exercise, or pictures of each form from start to completion of the exercise. This way, no matter if you're at the local gym or in your garage, you have a handheld guide for each exercise.

It's not always easy to commit to driving to the local gym. Some days can be pretty packed, so having some equipment to work out at home is a great way to still get your work out in and achieve your health goals. Luckily, there are tons of apps specifically designed for home work out exercises. Another great thing about these at home work out apps is you can find more than one that will let you customize your work out by what equipment you have at home. For instance, the app can create a work out program that revolves around the free weights and a resistance band you have in the garage. To add, you might even find tips on how to use household items in your workouts. For example, you could start doing squats while holding a water jug. Or, if you live in an apartment or two-story home, take advantage of those stairs with some arm weights for a total body exercise.

For the days that you are ready to head to the gym and do an hour of solid weight lifting, apps can give you some help there as well. You can find a personal trainer app that will take a lot of your information in order to put together a workout plan that will help you achieve your goals safely. If you want to tone up and slim down at the same time, a personal trainer app can help you focus on lifting and strength training. But if you're new to lifting weights, then you also want to rely on a personal trainer app to help you decide the weight of the dumbbells you use in different exercises. Most likely, it will start you off with lifting lighter weights. This is very important to make sure you have your proper form down before you start adding heavier weights to your workout program.

After a couple of weeks of a basic weight training program, and once you feel confident about your form in different exercises, you'll probably want to mix it up a bit. Not only does doing the same exercises over and over get a bit boring, but you won't see as much progress as your body will be used to the same motions. Therefore, it's time to find another app or even search through the one you have for different methods of lifting. That way, you can start creating new training routines to keep you focused and enjoying every gym day. Not to mention, the more you mix it up, the more your body will get stronger, and the more results you will see.

Weightlifting can be a little daunting if you've never done it before. Learning different exercises, proper form, and using different machines can be really overwhelming and somewhat confusing as well. However, with apps, you can conquer these new techniques as well as create a fun and challenging work out routine that will help you achieve your fitness goals in a safe and attainable way.

    • A few years ago I was contemplating buying this app because I was a begginner yet the app just didn’t seem worth $40 or $50 if I remember correctly. Anyhow lucky I contemplate long enough that I was able to get the app on sale for $4.99. I didn’t hesitate and paid the five dollars been using it for a couple of years now and I have to say the set up, layout, and variations it offers are amazing

    • Best app I have used for gym tracking, especially with going pro. Amazing price considering it is a one off payment. Surprising amount of other apps don't allow putting notes on you workouts which is tought when doing some crossfit training. Work it is a class app too but this one has a much better and nicer looking user interface. And the plans are very good for anyone who doesn't really have a plan in place. Feel like statistics could be better.
