Update: I figured I’d leave the prior review there to show how stupid I am... just don’t touch the screen so hard and those songs will move all over the place with incredible ease. I figured it out by accident.... moron moment over... love this app now more than ever... love love love Look, I love this service because it has literally every song/cover/live version etc. of everything.... however, I spend all day making these playlists that I cannot rearrange!!!!! I click edit, the equal sign (I don’t know what else to call it) appears on the left and I have to touch that thing like 87 times before I can get it just right so the stupid menu doesn’t come up instead. I HATE IT. It is literally so frustrating it makes me not even want to use the app. I’ve had to resort to deleting things that I want to be at the end of the playlist and then adding them again just to get them to where I want. Please please please fix this or make it easier or bigger or something. It’s literally a crapshoot on whether I can touch it just right so I can pull it up or down in the playlist. I can’t be the only one this annoys. That would shock me to the core....

  • Neat app, but a few improvements could be useful. Mar 29, 2021

I give this four stars because it’s an amazing app, and I’ve been using it on my Lenovo / Google Home smart clock to fall asleep. As well as I like it, there are a few things that I would like to be added. For one, when I ask it to play a certain person or music company that I like, for example Waterflame, or Danimal Cannon, I want it to just play those songs. I’m tired of skipping songs to the point where I can’t even skip anything without a membership. Second of all, stop flooding your ads with membership advertisements! It’s annoying to me because imagine hearing after every single song: “Buy our membership!” And I would also like the option to not play certain songs, because after a while it plays lo-fi music or old school hip-hop, but I don’t want that to happen. Again, this is a great app, but these things are something that could be considered in the future. I look forward to using this more.

  • Missing Google play music Sep 22, 2020

In all honesty I switched over to this app with a really open mind because I figured it would work about the same as Google play music. But I've been disappointed in certain functions. I mostly listen to my music while I'm driving so the download-only feature is really important. On Google, you could toggle your downloads on and off and then sort by artist if you wanted. I've noticed on this app that if you want to listen to downloads you can either choose one individual album or you can shuffle all of your songs. This is frustrating to me. The other thing I'm not thrilled about is the really bad lag when I skip a song or two. And this is still if I'm only listening to my downloaded music so there is no reason for the app to act like it's buffering or whatever the problem is here?? I really wanted to like this app. I did. But it's got some pretty major issues and they had a long time to sort this out before making everyone switch over.

This app has come on in leaps and bounds since it was forced on the (mostly) unwilling Google Play community. The automatic personalised mixes are excellent, as are the suggested "moods" that appear within the app and which are usually right on point. It'll even create a selection of personalised playlists for you based on the "mood" you select, so you can have a series of themed playlists to choose from for whatever activity you're doing, and which are all linked to your personal tastes.

  • One “tiny” complaint Sep 24, 2020

Ok, so this app is great if you just wanna listen to music, which I like to do. So I opened the app, and it asked my if I wanted to start my free trial. I said no, because I wanted to save it. Then I exited the app because I didn’t want to use it yet. So that happened yesterday, and when I went on the app today, it said my free trial was ending soon. I checked if I had Premium, and apparently I did. Why did it give me Premium? I didn’t want to use the free trial yet. When I had YT Music on my old iPad, it let me choose when I wanted to use the free trail. And the “Try Premium today” thing doesn’t have a exit button. The only thing you can do is press the button, or exit the app. Apparently both result in YT Premium now, so either it’s a glitch, or on purpose. Anyway, beside this wall of one complaint, the app is pretty good. I like how you can shuffle the playlist and it recommends you more songs. Well, have a good day.

This is by far the worst app for listening to music that I have ever used. (And I have the paid subscription.) It takes a gazillion clicks to find my recent or commonly used playlists. I don’t get on the app to use mixes some rando made, I get on to listen to MY LISTS and to find new releases. Why do I have to click like five times to reach my playlists???? And even then it doesn’t show me the ones I’ve lost recently played, only the ones I’ve recently edited! The playlists are not sorted alphabetically. If I want to remove songs from a queue or move them to another playlist, it’s impossible to select more than one song at once—I HATE THIS ESPECIALLY. Such a basic and inexcusable oversight they’ve had months to fix. And if I’m already listening to a list I’ve downloaded and then I leave WiFi, it complains to me that it has no connection and needs to go to downloads, and makes me click through multiple times just to find again and shuffle the list I’m already listening to. Just awful. Also google play used to show me how many times I’ve listened to each song, and that’s what I looked at to find my favorite songs of the year. I don’t want a 2020 list they make for me, I want to make my own list! Why can’t they provide this basic thing that was already offered on google play? The web app is equally frustrating. I can’t believe we actually pay them to provide this abysmal level of service.

Unable to update payment information or recieve help to do so. Every edit option or link to update payment info, since I've gotten a new card, is not allowing me to update any of it. They just keep trying to force process a payment with ZERO options to actually update info under the taps and directions that YouTube BS "Customer Support" provided. Ridiculously difficult to use! I've given my phone to other friends to see if they can figure it out. Hours later, nothing because of YouTubes setup..

I don’t even know where to start with just how buggy and unusable this app and YT Music is overall. It’s not a step down from Google Play - it’s ten steps down. GP worked flawlessly, you could edit metadata (like artwork), stream through your Sonos for FREE and it has/had a simple User interface. YTM has none of that and it’s simply inexcusable. All they had to do was rebrand GPM and call it a day. Instead, we get an app that is so frustrating to use. Plug it in CarPlay and you don’t get a “most recent” screen like every, single other music app gives you. You have to manually navigate to what you want. If you want to start up where you left off before, you have to use the app on the phone and make at least 3 clicks to get to your recent album/songs. It also doesn’t remember your playback settings. If you click on “repeat” for an album, it will usually stop by the second play. If you don’t have repeat on and you’re at the last song of an album, hitting the |> button won’t take you back to the first track. Again, that is just BASIC functionality. If you want to stream your library through your Sonia system? Well, with GP it was free. Now? You have to pay for the 9.99/mo upgrade fee for YTM “Premium.” No thanks, Google. You don’t take away a free service and give us an inferior one as a replacement and have the gall to charge people for it.

I gave this a chance for a few months. It's trash. Like 6 years worth of playlists lost in the transition and I don't have time to put hundreds of songs back together. I'm an adult. I don't have time to go on forums and troubleshoot. I want a 1KUSD phone and a music service I PAY 10 bucks a month for that will be there in two years, and still work. I'm switching to iPhone, I'm sick of Google. Bad UI. Missing buttons. Personal library not one click away. Downloaded songs not #1 results. Bad.

I truly don't understand how this app is rated so well. It fails in the most basic of ways, making using it a continually frustrating experience. When viewing Library by Artist, instead of showing the Albums by that artist like every music app ever, including Google Play Music, it just lists all the songs by that artist. "YT Music" and "Uploads" are separated when. Looking at your library, so you have to look in two different places to see all the content from a single artist. Loop preference does not persist between queues, so when you start a new album or playlist, if you want it to loop, you have to select that EACH TIME. You can view Downloads just fine if you have service, but if you're in a low service area, the app will just sit at a loading screen forever, blocking access to everything, unless you turn on airplane mode. It's a mess. The only marginal improvement on Google Play Music has been consistent album art when in offline mode (it'd just disappear in GPM for some reason). This app needs SO MUCH WORK and seems to have been designed by a team that has never worked on this type of app before, or simply doesn't get UX at all. Being forced to replace GPM with this is incredibly frustrating.

Best app I ever bought! Takes up very little space on my phone and easy to use. The sound enhancement is amazing! And I the playlist it chooses for me on and offline. I love that I can watch music videos. Rarely has any glitches. Plays music very crisp and clear. Lets me store as much music offline as my phone can handle. Very easy to make playlist and download music with easy. Absolutely by far my favorite app. Please don't change too much YT Music! I would hate for you guys lose many.

This is a great app, has the absolute biggest library(YouTube), option for video and all of this is just the early access version! Very excited to see what the future updates bring with them. Few complaints are: Remove the swipe to delete from playlists, or make it harder to trigger, like requiring a double swipe. This was an issue in GPM, still an issue here. Also add shuffle and repeat buttons on the play screen and the ability to add whole albums to playlists. Other than that, keep up the good work and keep expanding the official library, as it’s missing big albums like Stoney by post Malone and 4 your eyes only by J Cole and so on.

I can again cast music that I bought to my Chromecast Audio which I bought. Still not 5 stars because they don't seem to offer a way to buy music and it's extremely annoying that it has ads and plays video for music you purchased if you don't go into it via "Uploads". Also, it seems they took away the fireplace option for when casting to a TV.

Hands down, the most music of any service. If it's a song that was recorded by humans it's probably in here. And will at some point come across your station. End of the day that's what matters most to me for a music service. Exposure to content. That said, the app is missing a few minor convenience features present in other similar services. My biggest peeve, no Windows PC music only mode. I listen to music a lot at work and would prefer not to eat bandwidth for videos I'm not watching. While in power the app has no option to keep the screen on meaning I have to unlock my phone to thumb a song down while driving. And the most minor, no way to thumb down a song that's not currently playing, gotta stop playing the current track, start playing the other one, then thumb it down. Also, why no access to comments?

I enjoy this app, it does what you need. Some minor issues keep it from 5*. Migrated from Google Play Music where I had my own personal collection uploaded. Youtube music is missing some of the key features that I loved at GPM. Can't see my library mixed with their own. New music is sometimes delayed on YTM and you have to search for specific new songs because they do not appear under the artist. GPM had a timer which was great to play music before bed. Lastly, the shuffle feature needs work.

it could be better the “my mixtape” is just music that i went out of my way to find it music i have in my likes or downloads rarely is there new music in there that i haven't heard, along with that if my mixtape is supposed to be songs that i like and etc then don’t play different music at different times, in the morning it plays different music than in the afternoon and night which is okay but i like to hear everything and my morning music is the same as my night time and my afternoon music. Along with the play more music for me, if the new discover playlist or whatever it’s called is supposed to help me find new music it would be nice to make it more accurate I've never liked a song that played in that playlist and it’s not even the type of music i listen to and i’ll listen to anything. also it needs to be updated all the time not every Wednesday.

It's a very good experience listening music in this. Although I felt missing some features in this, which I thought very needed. 1 sleep timer and 2 Podcast. In the bedtime, the sleep timer is a must-have feature for a music player. It's predecessor ie Google Play Music had this feature. Now it's gone. It's substitute apps like Spotify and Amazon music have both the features. Hope these features include in the near future.

  • Why Did You Remove The Feature That Allowed Us To Find Remixes From The “More” Button? Jun 2, 2018

    By IStoppingPowerI
(Updated On Exp) Starting to love this new look actually. I can see the songs I enjoy replaying come up well at the top section. What was great before was tapping a track that I’ll enjoy, and wondering - what would some remixes/covered/related tracks sound like. The older “more” button or what the current “i”/“Information” button had previously done this. It was awesome! I was hooked. I could find so many great songs from other artists/DJs and so on by finding a great hit, then tapping those buttons. Now those features aren’t to be found. I don’t feel confident paying because I can get the same great hits/music from streaming services that I’ve never tried before. I was a student for all the time I’ve used it (1.5 years) as well - so I really do love the app! It’s harsh pressing the info button and seeing nothing.

Using this app since it’s replacing google play. I don’t like that it takes forever to connect to my Bluetooth it seems to always have a lag and the music buffers in the beginning too. I never experienced this with google play. Maybe the music videos are still loading in the background even though it’s on “music only” mode. I also really dislike that my music never picks up where it left off when I’m done. I have to manually go and search for my song every time I restart my car or anytime I come back to the app really. I’ve tried not closing the app on my home screen but it didn’t male a difference. Sometimes my playlists can get long and searching for a song toward the middle is annoying. I do like that I can find any song that’s on YT on here though, sometimes google play would not offer songs YT music has offered.

This app has honestly been a huge disappointment compared to Google play music, the old app I used to use. Everytime I use this app, it fails to load the next song, so I had to open the app back up everytime to play the next one. Then if I close the app, the music will stop. But yet on Google play music, the music did not stop till I told it to. This is very angering overall when this is my purchased music that this app is not allowing me to listen to. I have other issues, but I can't fit them.

    By KatxIsxBack
I have had nothing but complaints about this app since having to move here from Google Play. It's become such a chore to listen to my own music that it's completely put me off listening to it. I rarely use this app. I much prefer Pandora or other music apps at this point. I want to be able to pick up where I left off in a song/album/playlist, hours/days/weeks later like I was able to in GPM. I don't want ads to listen to my own music. I don't want your suggestions added to my music. I don't want to be asked to upgrade to premium. I just want to listen to MY MUSIC. I also don't understand why buffer times are so much worse on here than GPM. I didn't have any issues with listening to my songs. But on this app, it takes a few tried for a song to play. Like it can't decide to load the song or something. I'm not sure. But it's annoying having to try to get the song to play multiple times before it will actually play. And then in the middle of a playlist, the song stopping for the same issue. Again, I will reiterate none of these issues occurred on GPM. TL;DR: I miss Google Play Music.

Overall it's not terrible. I don't like that my que randomly disappears for no reason which may just be a glitch with the app. However my biggest problem, and the reason why I'm only giving 2 stars, is that too many songs become unavailable when they were available at first. It is super frustrating when you go back to listen to something and it's just gone from your library. The que thing is whatever but the disappearing songs should really be addressed.

Bad.

Still a poor substitute for Google Play Music. Searching by song or song artist is worthless. They need to bring the Genre option back and sort by just album and album artists with uploaded music collection. The uploaded music is needed as YouTube Music does NOT have all the music in my collection available. It just worries me when I see no worthwhile updates for handling uploaded songs now that Google Play Music is retired.
