This is my current go-to app for looking up reviews. Although since it’s pretty much all user-generated content, I take it with a grain of salt. Sometimes it’s a mixed bag, but usually the ratings align with my opinion. Between the reviews and user photos, it’s super helpful when deciding where to take my business. There’s a few annoyances though. Got one, I get unsolicited spam notifications. Even though my app settings unchecked all notification options except the ones actually useful (waitlist updates, etc.), I still get spam notifications like “check out one of this week’s top restaurants.” Turning off notifications all together makes the app lose important functionality. And I don’t love how much data Yelp uses to track me, especially the precise location tracking. I would expect Yelp would use precise location only to help users discover and find business locations in the app, but it seems it’s also used for tracking users. Unfortunately, if I turn off location services, Yelp makes the main page of the app lose a bunch of content. Too bad they don’t let users just select the city they live in to see recommendations.

I used to love this app. It did everything you could want for searching for reviews for almost anything. Well they keep changing the algorithm and it's getting annoying. Now when u search by distance it's not automatically set to closest to farthest. When u put that in, it still gives u somewhat random distances. Then it doesn't load all the closest first so u have to keep looking a couple of times to get places that u know are close but didn't come up the first time. Also the search by rating is the same way. You search and the ratings aren't all in order from most to least. They still throw some 3 star reviews when your still in the midst of 5 star reviews. I swear they're giving people preferential treatment based on ad revenue or something. It's really annoying and wish they would go back to the way it was a long time ago.

I love this app but the sponsored adds are annoying especially when they aren’t part of your modification on search. Also annoying when you go to read reviews on a place and they actually have SPONSORED reviews or something for other restaurants as your scrolling for other restaurants. Not only are these adds irrelevant to your search, but it’s made me misread reviews for places thinking they were for the place I was looking up. HOWEVER! I will continue to use this app because despite the annoyances like, it’s still extremely useful overall and I’ve even used it to schedule appointments for hair and nails. But usually use for food. Still recommend it for looking up places.

Funny, until I just had a pop-up, it never occurred to me to rate Yelp 🤣 Anyway, this has to be one of the most used apps on my phone! I travel a LOT and Yelp saves me from everything from last resort mediocre take-out food, to wardrobe malfunctions and “where the heck can I find an ‘x’ at this hour” emergencies. Regardless of the number of reviews or stars a place has, I always read the reviews with one or two stars to see if the issues raised are really relevant, or just a posting by someone with unrealistic expectations, which is unfortunately frequent. I’ve found some true gems in my travels, and validated the low ratings of a few I dared to try despite them, but that’s all part of the adventure, right?

Still my preferred app to check out restaurants. A couple of suggestions. I like that people can check in. It would make more sense if there was an option to geographically base the check ins. Say for example you go a business trip and there was an awesome restaurant you visited but couldn't remember what the name was or where it was located. While you remembered to check in, it was roughly about 3 years ago. You have to spend several minutes scrolling and scrolling through your saved check ins to find the general timeframe of when you went there. More often than not, I will skip over it and it just leads to frustration. Make check ins more useful. The same repetitive questions keep coming up. For attire, answering either casual or formal would generally suffice. I don't think people filter places specifically looking for a divvy or hipster venue. I think one of the more useful things you could add is average wait time and harness the database of loyal users. If you could ask if wait time is less than 5 min, less than 30 min, or greater than an hour for walk ins, that would help users prioritize their list of possible selections. Hope these suggestions make it to the next update.

The only thing I don't like is ordering through Yelp/GrubHub and finding out we are paying more than ordering direct. Pickup Stix wouldn't do curbside pickup using Grubhub and we had to pickup in the restaurant. They do curbside pickup if we order through their app. In that case using Yelp/Grubhub we paid more to get less service.

It doesn't make sense that even for places with hundreds of reviews, the app lists reviews in random order... You might see a six month old review on top, followed by one from five years ago, then one from last week, etc. This makes it harder to tell if a place with overall good ratings has gone downhill recently, or if a place with overall bad ones has started improving. About the only way I can see this seemingly random order making sense is when a business suddenly gets a bunch of mostly good or bad reviews due to sketchy reasons - but that likely doesn't happen often. One other comment... I know people complain about how businesses can pay to get listed first, but the app makes it obvious by showing the "ad" symbol etc. and Yelp has to make money somehow.

User interface gets worse with each update. It used to be easy to navigate, but now common features like check-in are buried deep after many links. But by far the worst of the recent updates is after check-in at a business a pop up demanding photos overtakes your screen. It's beyond annoying and makes using the app awkward. If I want to add photos I will do so. I do NOT want to be bombarded with this frustrating pop-up Every. Single. Time!! It wouldn't be so bad if you could turn it off.

I recently signed a contract with this company and was almost duked. The first red flag was the interest rate quoted and the one that I signed was different. The second flaw was the phone number listed on the contract was a number which was no longer in service and the final flaw was trying to reach out to the company who never calls you back. Enlighten of all these red flags you have to cancel within a certain amount of time or you’re stuck with the contact. I cancel the contract and sent the contractor Rich a copy and this is when I met the devil. Rich had been nice and professional and seem in-tuned to my concerns during the contract signing. However, when I received the contract by email later that day with a interest rate which was nearly triple, this is concerning. I’m aware that I could be held liable for such a high interest rate and I’m fully aware that Ignorance is no excuse of the law. I recommend for others to read a contract when doing business here or you may end up being duked.

  • Read privacy policy first, no web functions Oct 19, 2020

    By Mishlz1
I deleted this app after reading their privacy policy and using one of their functions that helps you get quotes from businesses. The app asks for a lot of your information like address and phone number, that they do not pass on to the businesses, so there is absolutely no reason they need that information other then they want it. Their privacy policy is horrible as well, they have no respect for anyone’s privacy. I always read the reviews they say are not recommended, the ones they claim do not meet their standards, whatever those are. These are usually the best and most honest reviews. I’ve been told by a lot of business owners that if they do not pay, their reviews are not always posted. Occasionally I use the version through the web browser, that intentionally has very little function to it. When you try to look at anything you get directed to the App Store to download the app. Maybe one day when they learn what privacy means.

I used to really enjoy using this app but ive installed and uninstalled and reinstalled it and still have issues with searching in it. Even just to select places that are open causes the whole app to crash. Ive submitted feedback and error reports about the issue at least 5 or 6 times but it still persists. Great service when the app acts right. If this is how the app functions, the website should allow registered users to view all the photos instead of requiring the app to see everything.

I had yelp for years and used it almost for everything. Today I decided to finally delete it. First, the reviews are not accurate. They censor a lot of reviews. They hide real reviews from real customers. They manipulate the feedback based on how much the businesses spend go advertise. When I started my business I had many people in my industry advise me to not spend a penny on yelp. I haven’t any money on yelp. I have real clients that have left me 5 star reviews. Some show up on my account but the majority are hidden. Many others in my industry have had to pay lots of money for the deceiving way in which yelp charges them for advertising. Great for big business, but screws over small business. As a consumer, I think it’s very deceiving. They manipulate the data. It’s like paying for reviews. And recently they announced they are now going to start doing socially policing businesses. I’m done with this company. I hope another competitor comes out. I’m done with yelp. Bye scammer.

This is a horrible app. I sometimes will use Google to search out and read Yelp reviews, now they require you to use the app instead of just a mobile browser. That alone would knock them down to three stars. Then when you do use the app it is slower than Google chrome and freezes up more often. Absolutely horrible and frustrating app.

The app just sucks lately. I tried to put my location and then do a distance search and then raiding the second most important option and it won't give me a distance. I try to report an error and it won't let me even post a picture that I took of the issues. They're not keeping restaurant information up-to-date. I don't know why Yelp users aren't either it's kind of sad it means that this app is failing.

I am so sorry to have to write this about a local company when we tried to give them a chance. At every step of the way there was a mistake and, while as customers we were extremely frustrated, they did not treat us right and talked back to us. The product was totally damaged upon install and they claimed to stand by product but in the interim charged our card incorrectly a few times and also against what they declared they would do as they indicated that we would not need to pay remaining amount until product installed correctly. We were told we had one POC yet that individual never followed up with us. Discount was not applied correctly either. They do not understand the adage that the customer is right. My goodness. What an immense headache for a simple project. The left hand does not know what the right is doing here. Too many people involved. We will not use them again and caution all to proceed with immense caution. So sad.

I rarely use this app, but am leaving a good review because this is the first time I've seen a rating pop-up in an an app that asked me to leave a review on google play after selecting one star. In my experience most apps only do this when you choose a good rating, which in my opinion is a sneaky way to artificially inflate a rating. As this is a review app it means even more. Yay for transparency.

Use this app often to research anyplace unfamiliar, especially restaurants. I like to see real deal pictures from the customers and not just the dressed up ones they want you to see. I do find reviews can be skewed. Some people just can’t be pleased like complaining about a 30 minute wait at a restaurant on Friday night or a 2 star review because of something that was superficial and likely an honest mistake like putting the appetizer on the wrong check with a party of 3 couples. When taking all this into account I find this app extremely helpful and informative. So far it has helped my family find several favorite local go to spots. We especially rely on it when traveling.

Overall that app is easy to use and navigate. HOWEVER, they are partnered with GrubHub for orders and that leaves a lot to be desired! I placed an order through Yelp which was charged, but the GrubHub driver never delivered and I wound up having to pick it up myself. The worst drive thru I've ever been to and such rude people!! The pharmacist has got to be the oldest and most cranky old man I ever met I waited for my dog medicine after they told me it would only be a half hour got back in line then they told me it would be another 20 mins so drive around againBecause they said they couldn't hold up the line to get back in line at third time well after sitting here for an hour and a half almost 2 hours I think because it was for a dog and not a person they put me to the end of the line and thought it wasn't that important even though my dog can't breathe without the medicine I will drive another 30 minutes to the Walgreens on West Cheyenne where the people are so friendly and I never have a problem just to avoid coming to this pharmacy so heads up people don't use this drive-through you'll be sorry you did!!

The app restarts too often. Rotate was also removed and limited to only within the photos. It's a shame that you can't even use the mobile site because it just forces you to download this buggy app.
  • Read privacy policy first, no web functions Oct 19, 2020

Used this app twice today, first time and last time, call the business if you can, this app kick me out and then said I did not want text messages, so we just waiting in the car for a text that never came just an awful experience.

So sad.

I had to download this app for Yelp because it was required in order for me to confirm a reservation with the restaurant. I never would have downloaded this app. And I am uninstalling it now. Thus the number of downloads is deceptive.

This store began making smaller portions (a lot did) during Covid so I didn't expect a lot. But I ordered chicken taquitos and a bowl of soup today, was charged $18.34 and I got barely a CUP of soup and tiny taquitos. I'm so disappointed.
