  • Good but Flawed Feb 11, 2017

I enjoy this game and it would be 5 stars except for some annoying things. First, the sound keeps disappearing at random times. The only solution I can find is to delete app from phone, then download from cloud again. Then the sound returns. But then goes away again in another day or two. Second, the swiping of letters can sometimes be VERY annoying as they don't respond properly or quickly. Slows you down as you're playing. Third, their dictionary of words is highly suspect. Some real words are not there at all. But the game recognizes other words that definitely are not words at all. Especially some that are all consonants. It seems to sometimes use proper names, abbreviations, and odd slang expressions, etc. For example, how can things like "cgb" or "trw" or "xtc" or "nps" be words? I've seen dozens of so-called words like this in this game. The game is still fun and challenging overall, but these 3 issues really hurt its rating.

This is the best version as you can change the length of the minimal letters in a word. However, it would be useful to be able to continue a game past the time limit, just to see the possibilities. Also, it would be helpful to be able to shuffle when it is inconvenient to shake, such as with an iPad I play against my self so I don't care about competition. I want the game to add to my vocabulary and not just be a addictive way to spend time. This version does not appear to be in the AppStore, which is sad as the others won't let you eliminate the boring 3 letter words
  • Fun, but design seems dated and glitchy Nov 27, 2016

Overall, this iteration of Word Shaker is pretty good. The only problem is that selecting letters sometimes is glitchy. Even though you trace a clear path across the correct letters, for some reason, very frequently this app doesn't properly recognize the letters. The user interface feels really dated as well. I wish I would have purchased the newer version of this app (by the same developer), but with a blue and yellow icon and interface. The newer version does not seem to have any of the issues with letter tracing.

This game is sooo fun! I love that you can choose how long you wish to play. The letters are in an easy-to-read format and the game is "addictive"--in a good way...love it!

I became instantly addicted to this game the first time I played it!!! I have been playing it constantly. It is more than worth the price. It recognizes all valid words also, something that is not the case with some word games. I can literally play this for hours without getting tired of it. Really really wonderful word game( I have deleted many others). I love word games and download and try many many of them. I have only a handful I have kept. This is one of them.

A few things keep me from giving it five stars. The game has an issue with the touch pad sensing. -It doesn't detect a touch that is "too close" to the edge of the screen so it doesn't start the word even though you are dragging. -A certain time lag has to occur before it detects what you think is the beginning of the next word, even when you are dragging. So if you try to start a new word immediately it doesn't see it. -It is fairly poor at processing diagonals and direction changes so you have to slow down if you are trying to drag a zigzag word. Its dictionary is rather peculiar including lots of words from languages other than English, not including words that have passed into English like shoyu, and including enormous numbers of medical and chemical terms but not computer engineering terms. Worth playing if you like words and have multiple small time slots to fill.
  • An excellent Boggle style game Jul 18, 2009

This is a great little game with plenty of features. The graphics look great and you can choose multiple options such as the size of the grid (up to 10x10) and the number of minutes to play, including unlimited time. Selecting the letters is easy and game play is simple. I am always playing this when I have a few minutes to spare. You can also resume a game where you left off in case you have to cut things short. At $0.99 you can't go wrong.

Can't stop playing this. There are several levels of difficulty that you can set for yourself by combination of board size and time constraint. Nice options for changing the overall theme if you disprefer the red (as displayed). If you like words games, do yourself a favor and drop the 99 cents in this little app. I've not the slightest complaint. Extremely well done. Kudos to the developer...hope there's more to come.

This game is sooooo fun! It's very similar to boggle, in that you're searching for words in a set of jumbled letters. A couple of fun options: you can set how many letters in the grid, in the settings tab you can change the color of the background, and you can publish and compare your scores against others, including top scores by time, month, week, etc. Well worth the price, highly recommend!!

I love word games and this one is definitely my favorite. I love that I can play it one handed since I mostly play it when rocking/nursing my son to sleep. I love all of the different options available for game time length, minimum word length, etc. Also love that it loads quickly and it's the only app that has never crashed on me in the 6+ months I've been playing it. A++++++ game!!

This is the only game that I play every day. I've been playing it for over a year and it's still my favorite. It never crashes and you can set the length of your game so that you don't become occupied by it for too long.

Love this game. Different options-long or short games. What I love is the scoring. It keeps track of your scores and online daily scores of everyone else playing. Have a lot of word games but this is my absolute favorite.

I've been playing this game for several years and it only gets better. There are enough levels to keep one's interest, and I love that I can peruse the list of words I missed - great way to expand vocabulary.

  • fun boggle implementation Dec 25, 2009

This is a very slick implementation of the old game of "Boggle." The interface is slick and polished. Game play is easy and intuitive. The game has some good features and I particularly enjoy (if not am humiliated by) a listing of all words you missed. A couple additional features would make this game absolutely perfect: - pass and play mode - ability to rotate the board - alphabetization of found word list during game Other than this, I really like it.

I really could just play all day if I didn't have a job ... and kids ... and real life like that. The only thing that keeps it from getting a 5 is that you physically have to shake your phone to switch up the letters. On some of the Word Shaker games, you can press a button for that (much preferred for me). Other than that, I love it!

I play it every day and love it. This is the best version so far. The only problem I ever have with it is that it won't submit the score if the Internet connection point changes between game start and end. E.g. if you start a game at home, pause it, and finish later while connected via 3G or a different wifi router.
  • Good game but.... Apr 2, 2013

I play this game all the time, it is much better than the free version but sometimes words that I spell that are actual words do not always register and when I end the game and look at missed words there are a while bunch that I have been trying to spell but do not register?

Overall, this iteration of Word Shaker is pretty good. The only problem is that selecting letters sometimes is glitchy. Even though you trace a clear path across the correct letters, for some reason, very frequently this app doesn't properly recognize the letters. The user interface feels really dated as well. I wish I would have purchased the newer version of this app (by the same developer), but with a blue and yellow icon and interface. The newer version does not seem to have any of the issues with letter tracing.
  • My most played game on my iPod touch Jun 8, 2011

    By Ajunebug4
I'm completely addicted to this game. Can't fall asleep at night without playing first. My only "real" complaint is that it's usually not accurate when it tells you your rank score. One improvement I'd love to see: once a word is completed, I'd like to be able to touch on it and see a definition. Not a lot of help to "learn" a bunch of new words and not have a clue what they mean. This COULD be an awesome vocabulary learning game if that were added ;)
