App sometimes has issues opening. Always have problems with the overdraft. I mean if it's not available let me know. I hate thinking I can use it and it declines. This last time I called customer service, stayed on hold for an hour. He put me on hold and hung up on me right before they closed.🙁

It’s the fastest and least frustrating banking app I’ve ever used. Transfers are fast, I love their direct deposit offers. I just really wish they would fix their customer service. You have to type in your entire social security number before you even talk to a human being. My card got declined at the store and it took minutes just to hear the robot tell me which number to press, then I was on hold for minutes on end and ended up having to just leave the store. This is just one flub, I think they’re doing a great job. It is now my main bank

I mean that i have never got a fee from the bank anymore they also have a convienent card lock as well as give you $50 to overdraft for free if your in a pinch make sure to withdraw $60 when you get down to $10 or your card will lock until transactions settle thats the only complaint i have thats why i give 4 stars

I’ve been using Varo since 2018, and it’s pretty cool. I’ve also banked with Chase, IBC, and MidFirst. A physical bank comes in handy if you’re living paycheck to paycheck and need that money on your card that day. Varos’ answer; if you have direct deposit then you can get paid early like with other popular apps. So that’s even better. And if you’re not in a rush you can just take a picture of the check and it’ll be in there the next day of the week. And you can deposit cash by green dot cards. But the customer service is better than any other bank I’ve had. And I’ve yet to run into any issues. They are also always ontop of the new. They were one of the first to get the cards you can just tap like Apple Pay etc. idk I’m easy going so this bank works out well for me. And the early pay is cool. If you need a bank I’d recommend this Forsure. If your bank is troublesome or anything switch over. If it’s not then only switch if you need to get paid earlier

I love varo more than current! Had them for quite sometime but recently started using them more. I love that I can pay a bill and they send the check for free. Only thing I don't care for is that they do not except wire transfers.Current doesn't offer the check option.

  • Why did you take away so many useful things? Dec 17, 2020

This app is worse than the original app. You should have kept the old one. I shouldn’t have to open the app to view my updated balance. The old app would let you see your balance via notification if you spend anything. Also when you make a transfer from savings to checking or visa versa there is no notification at all. You guys took one step forwards and 10 steps back. When someone send you money via Zelle for example, still no notification saying the money is received as well. You have to log in and wait to see the funds. It use to be almost instant with the old app. This update was the worst thing you guys have done. I was ok with updating my direct deposit and all those other things, but not giving the user proper notifications is not good. I need to be able to see what goes in and out of my account, and I see other reviews saying the same things. Why change something that wasn’t broken? At least keep the useful things. It’s useful to be able to view your current balance after you spent some money without having to log in completely. Whoever took away these features should give me their job. You had one job. One job. Now I need to find another bank.

UPDATE: just as expected I got a blanket email response about the no fee overdraft. It said I have a pending transaction and some other nonsense which is not true. I emailed back but don't expect a different answer or resolution. My advice is that you will get paid early but don't expect to be able to use any of the features or to be able to get the new account through Varo bank bc apparently that is only available to new users and ppl who have been with them don't count.

  • Horrendous deposit limits that competitors don’t have Dec 1, 2020

    By RandallG123
Came for the high interest yield savings (like most people) and cancelled my account within a month. Would’ve cancelled sooner but I wanted to give the bank a chance. It’s the 1st of December and I still haven’t received my funds and it’s been over three weeks since I cancelled. Customer service’s feedback was “they’re escalating it and they’re not sure a check was even issued...”.I still don’t have my money which I saved for Christmas shopping and I don’t even know when I’ll get it. To be more specific Varo has ridiculous limits (like tiny limit i.e $50) for the amount you can deposit into your savings from an outside institution. You can avoid the limit if you originate the transfer from the outside institution but many banks charge a fee for doing that. Ally bank, a direct competitor, doesn’t have any limits or restrictions like that. Essentially Varo tries to get you to utilize more of their services like their checking account (obligatory checking account by the way). They want you to get automatic deposits too, for example, and in return they will increase your deposit limits. On top of everything they made the cancellation process a nightmare. There are so many better options out there. Stay away

Yesterday afternoon I cash out money from my cash app to my Varo debit card and went to check my account and the money was NOT THERE ! Then Varo posted on the same day that they are experiencing technical issues with app and your balance might not be correct. I waited all day for the issue to be resolved and it wasn’t. I called Varo this morning and spoke to a representative and she tells me the supervisor is taking care of the problem and I should receive a email by the end of today about my funds and my account. Remember, this has been like this since yesterday and yesterday was my birthday. If I was really dependent on this money or had a emergency I would have been screwed because of Varo issues. Once this problem is resolved, I will deactivate my account Varo and move on to a better company. Varo was a great app to use til the New Varo debit cards came out and the new Varo app. Varo you have officially lost a long time customer because of lack of communication and the long waiting period for my funds to be shown on my account. I will NOT recommend Varo to any friends or family.

  • Best mobile banking app Jan 13, 2021

    By Usiaidjsbanam.
I’ve been using this banking app for over a year now and I love it. It was recommended to me by my cousin. While I have yet to experience the benefit of being paid two days earlier because my employers submit timecards late, I still enjoy the app. The best feature on the app is the save your change feature, which has saved me a bunch of times! The only issue I’ve had with the app was involving a mobile deposit of a check. The amount was over $1,000 and instead of depositing the full amount, this bank split up the deposits. However, it didn’t take long for me to receive all my money. Also, this past Veterans Day I was able to receive my paycheck a day earlier with this bank. Normally, with any other bank, I’m sure my paycheck would’ve been delayed due to the holiday. 10 out 10 would definitely recommend!

  • Most under- rated banking app! Dec 15, 2020

    By Gigixbx
I love the fact that Varo is an online banking service. There are no ridiculous fees. I don’t have to worry about getting to the bank before it closes, because they have several open-late locations. Transferring money to my partner for bills has never been easier, and the app itself is really easy to navigate- all the information needed is where you’d expect it to be, no more hunting down account details or struggling to find transaction history. The Varo customer service has been more than dedicated to helping me with a multitude of things, and are always so friendly whenever I call. I recommend Varo to everyone who is considering a switch or even just a new bank.

  • Varo is a great bank! Jan 6, 2021

    By ErikaInAG
I've been with Varo for a couple of years and really like it. I didn't have an issue with the transfer, but I know other people have, the only thing that bugs me is that notifications don't have current balance info. Having to wear masks makes it a real pain to have to go into the app to check my balance (I have facial recognition on my iPhone), I really appreciated the "your current balance is $xyz" on the old app. Other than that, I don't have any other complaints about the switch.

  • New App, New Problems Dec 24, 2020

    By Todd Hewitt
Like many other reviewers, I am not thrilled with the transition from Varo Money to Varo Bank. One of the biggest appeals of Varo is the high interest rate for their savings account. Unfortunately, when I transitioned to the new app, all of my accrued interest for the month of December had disappeared. I called customer support to figure out the issue, but waited on hold for 30 minutes with no answer before deciding to give up. I ended up sending an email and am hoping they can resolve the situation that way. I know transitions like this can be rocky and I’m hopeful for Varo’s future. If I get my money back and their customer service improves, I will make sure to update my review. But for now, I’m not happy and am definitely starting to look into other online banks. EDIT: Updated my review from 2 stars to 3 stars after the response from the developers below. However, this was not at all clear and should not have required leaving a negative review to get an answer. Additionally, I still have not received an official email response from Varo’s customer service team which is very discouraging. Again, I like certain aspects of Varo and think they have potential. But they’re off to a rocky start with this transition.

I'm new to your app, and love it. Except, I don't like that I can't transfer money directly from my outside personal checking account into the Varo savings account. It requires me to transfer into my Varo regular bank account, wait 3-5 days until it posts, then go back in and transfer it into the savings. Would be easier to be able to just do a direct transfer.

  • I get it’s new, but... Dec 13, 2020

    By jess_a_n
I’ve had this app for two days now, and it’s just a little off atm. One thing that’s bothers me is how late the notifications show up. For example, I buy food but I’m not immediately notified (I’m notified like a half hour later). I don’t know the whole story of why there needs to be a new app, but why couldn’t they just update the old one and everyone keeps their current cards and they don’t have to change all their card information on direct deposit, etc. I hope this ends up being an improvement from the old app and they keep tweaking their bugs like the notifications, because it’s definitely going to take some getting use to.

    By Punisherbv
For starters I guess if some new users switched over it will no longer recognize anyone you did transfer money to until they upgrade to new app and stuff which is odd but anyway. The other problems I am seeing there is no way to adjust save your change or pay in the options anywhere let alone the Mail a check feature is gone when that was very useful when I had to Mail something out. If these features don’t get fixed soon I’ll consider leaving Varo as much as I loved how it was before the new stuff doesn’t seem as impressive. Please fix before I leave

if we and most of the customer decided having an account with Varo it was cause offering simplify all the trash and charges of the other banks impounds to customers. But every time Varo is changing and not for better more security it is good but very restrictive for example I living in the border with Mexico when i cross the border the app stop working sending e mails and they “doesn’t know why” - international transactions now are charged - ATM getting % more high in commission. transactions get duplicated informed that to the email and phone customer service they responding weeks later saying it was nothing wrong it fine and charged. so it means i can’t complain. very sad see a good bank becomes in an other “MONEYlittle secret fees collector” like the other banks are and WE the customers who believed who helped and are helping make this big Bank NOW goes to end in the priority list.

  • New, but not exactly improved Jan 3, 2021

    By allredmr
I’ve had Varo for years and I have absolutely loved it up until this transition to the new app and cards. My husband and I have both had issues with the new debit cards not reading at various places, the app is unreliable, notifications can take forever and some charges sit there pending for an extremely long time, and the new account number doesn’t want to connect to Venmo. There’s also apparently a fee now that Varo charges for using an atm, IN ADDITION to the atm fee that you already have to pay the machine. Switching all of my payment information was annoying but that would have been understandable. The debit card issues have been the biggest problem though, to the point that I think we will have to switch to a more reliable bank. I’m really sad about it because until now Varo was easily the best bank account I’ve ever had.

Been banking with Varo for years but with the new bank it’s been a headache. First I do nog receive deposit notifications & the debit notifications will literally come days later at times (yes the app is updated & the notifications are on). This and the fact that some places do not accept the card/routing & accounting info for recurring payments. I was told it’s something with the account/bank not being official long enough. Which is a pain because since the conversion it looks as if this is a fresh account that was just opened vs showing that the account has been open for over 4 years. Possibly may have to check for a different bank due to the many troubles with this account.

It takes hours to get a cust service rep on the phone and they are horrible at helping their customers. You cant re-qualify for $50 overdraft even if you paid back what you owed and have over 2000 a month in direct deposits. So i requestd my acct to be merged over to the new varo bank so i could qualify for the 100 spot me and they say "so sorry no you have to wait, we dont know how long it may take for your account to be merged." They dont try to help their cust at all
