    I thoroughly enjoy the fact that I get my direct deposit early, and I enjoy(ed) the no fee overdraft feature which spots you $50 until your next deposit. It was nice being able to be spotted a little extra until payday...in the beginning anyway. At some point Varo updated their app which started interfering with the 50 overdraft limit you could use, making all purchases decline even if you still have $45 available for use with the overdraft amount. It doesn’t even solely affect the overdraft amount - you could have $30 bucks in your account, but if you have a couple of pending charges, new purchases will decline until those pending charges settle. Even if the purchase(s) don’t exceed the amount you have left in your account before overdraft takes over. Example: I had about $75 in my account, I attempted to make a $6 purchase and my card declined. I went elsewhere and tried to make another small purchase to test the waters, and again my card declined. I logged into the app and saw that I still had $75 bucks left in my account, and only had about $15 worth of pending charges. Basic math suggest that’s even when those pending charges settled, my avail balance would still be able to cover the $6 purchase and then some before creeping into “overdraft mode”. Varo has some perks, but the seizing of your funds while 2-3 charges are pending is ridiculous, it’s frustrating and embarrassing to say the least.

    I actually enjoy Varo! It’s structured nicely and the layout is easy to find your way around. I really do like the fact that there isn’t a maintenance fee. I’m using Varo as an alternative because I was having fraudulent issues with a chain Bank who refused to close the account. I’ve had a good experience with Varo EXCEPT for how long it takes for the mobile check to be deposited. If the check is over $200, do not expect your funds for 1-5 business days (and hopefully you’ll remember to deposit the check before the weekend!). This is a good bank to have if you’re new to banking or only making less than $200 deposits. I once made a deposit that was over $580 and I had $200 deposited the next day, while waiting for the remaining to be deposited 7 days later (5 business days + the wknd). I have a check that is over $250 and I’m waiting on the $200 to be deposited one day, and the remaining two days from now. Also, the balance doesn’t automatically refresh all of the time - so it’s very important that you keep mental (or noted) track of your transactions. Again! GREAT app, but it’s better suited for part-time workers or retail employees who are barely making $300. I’ll definitely be looking into a different bank after Varo, hopefully a credit union. It’s also kind of strange that they offer linking your Cashapp to Varo, but there is no clear instruction on how to execute that.

    I love the bank, have no issues. My only issue is when and if your deposit will hit. They say they can't see any deposits on their end but maybe they can add scheduled transactions for future updates. I hate guessing when my deposit will arrive. Please change this! Other banks have this feature -- maybe you should too

    Easiest banking experience ever. I am 50 years old and have had accounts with other mainstream institutions. Fee after fee that overdrafted me. Varo is amazing. Easy to work with. Tracks everything in real time. No hidden fees. Customer service (when needed, which is rare) is straightforward and points you in the right direction and no double speak like regular banks. I greatly appreciate it. They are FDIC insured now, if that's a concern (it was for me for a bit before that changed).

    I am very happy with 99% of Varo, from account to Customer service, but my one dislike is that when I open the app, I find it so confusing seeing all of my linked accounts, and needing to really double check how much money is actually in my Varo account and not a total amount between all of my banks... I kind of primarily open the Varo app to double check my Varo balance prior to using my Varo card, and certainly can’t make any purchases using the amount available between each of my linked accounts, so I personally feel like that feature should be set further in the background and not the main attraction when you open the app. I absolutely do like having the ability to see everything together at a glance, but I truly hate it being so difficult to zone in on the Varo account, which is the major reason why you would open the app instead of opening the app for your other accounts, no?? It would be nice if maybe you could be able to customize your home screen to focus on what’s most important to each person.... Not a big enough reason to make me dislike the bank account, but just something that irks me about the app itself...

    Varo Bank closed my account on March 30, got an email early morning saying that they had closed it. The email said I would get a check in 14 days. My direct deposit went thought Monday/Tuesday. Nothing was spend because I didn’t have any time to pay bills before they closed it. I got an email today (4/14/2021) saying that they will escalate my issue and will get a check 14 days from today! And a shorter amount of what I had in there. I am seeking legal advise. This is plain robbery.

    I have not been able to use my card not get anyone on the phone to change my pin number. Not sure why my pin stopped working in the first place. I did the $50 pay advance, paid it off and then a few days later it says I have an active $40 pay advance. I did no such a thing. I also can't use my card online at the store ANYWHERE!! It says I have funds available but everything I try to do gets declined. I will no longer be using Varo and I really liked Varo Money. Save your time and energy.

    I tried to open an account - I went to the set up screen, entered my email, my phone #, a password, and I confirmed the password. Nothing happened. The "Lets Go" option did NOT highlight, it stayed grey. I tried multiple times in the same hour, I tried several days in a row, I even gave up a couple of months back, and said "meh. Why not? I'll try again." Again - repeated all the steps above and NOTHING happened. The Lets Go button is not click-able. I even tried on a LapTop, tablet - nope. Sucks

    I had no problems with using Varo until they switched to their new card. Ive used it twice to get gas & each time it took out ALL my money even when I only asked for $15. It sent me a notification saying I spent $157 at the gas station, than $98 the second time when I once again only used $15 . Whenever I called after waiting over 3 hours I hung up. Emails are ignored and when I finally got in touch on the phone the guy sounded like a 16 year old who didn't have a clue what he was doing.

    I loved it u til the update as of today it won't open and keeps telling me I have no data services when I do.. UPDATE although I had to uninstall and reinstall twice it seems to be working properly now... I'm worried about getting my direct deposits since switching from the old app 2 this new one... Which is important, along with daily access and notifications...

    I got VARO back in September when I learned about mobile banking over the past summer. I recently turned 23 so I guess you can say that I’m a millennial. Anyways, I rarely ever go to a physical bank and the hassle of having to deal with all sorts of fees with no return on my savings plus without any ease of handling my money I decided to look around for alternative forms of banking. I actually got Chime and VARO at the same time but the reason why I kept VARO and deleted Chime was because Chime stopped doing there 10% bonus on roundups which gave them a slight edge up. VARO also has exceptional customer service so now I can safely say that VARO is the best one out there after comparing several different kinds of mobile banking services. They currently only offer checking and savings accounts but if they ever offer credit cards I’ll most likely pursue that. I never review any app but since this is something I deeply care about I wanted to share my thoughts. I hope that this helps some of you guys out.

    Great online banking app and getting better. Fixing issue where Amazon Prime was deducting $13+ out of my account monthly. Was never a member and rarely shop on there to justify "stealing" money from my account. I'm not the only one this has happened to so it pays to watch your statements. Varo is handling it very professionally and I have nothing but good things to say about them. Thank you Varo

    Absolutely the best. Works wherever and never have any issues with the card. Many services offered in app for helping build credit and thats awesome to see. Really can't say enough good things about varo. Getting paid 2 days early is a major plus as well. Sometimes there'll be a delay for major holidays but that's understandable.

    I really like this app, my only issue is that not all the ATMs 🏧 listed are fee free and I thought they were. There's not much near me other than Smith's that I've found fee free. Varo people - is this going to change now that you're an actual FDIC insured bank? I would have given 5 stars except for this one issue. I'd love to see more fee free ATMs or at least a refund on the ones that say they are free but charge me anyway. Thank You !

    OCR (optical character recognition) for mobile check deposit was abysmal. Customer service was non existant. These issues caused me not to have access to my money to pay medical bills. I am so deeply unsatisfied that I am looking into switching banks after such huge failures to deliver on their promises. Edit: After posting this review Customer Service did reach out to me and we were able to resolve the issue. I wish it didn't take a neg review to fix it so I can only give 4 stars.

    Not a bad app but has room for improvement. When looking at all the transactions save the change is always deposited a day later which can be confusing when you have many transactions a day. Also the notifications doesn't work. I have it on but yet I don't get any notifications for purchases or deposits or anything. How can we fix these things? Update response to Varo reply. Thanks for response & I don't broadcast my banking info in comment sections so that's why you couldn't locate my account.

    I just so happened to find Varo in app store & tried it out. After my acct was open & I received my card, I quickly realized just how difficult it is to get money into the darn account other than Direct Deposit! The most frustrating part is that you can link your other bank accts to Varo acct (AWESOME RIGHT??!! WRONG!!!) It's almost IMPOSSIBLE!!! They put you through 10 steps that you have to keep watching or coming back to, but don't wait too long because then you have to start all over!!! VERYYYYYY hard to tell what company to select because they have too many options for each Bank!! EX: Capital One, my credit card acct SHOULD EASILY CONNECT through the "Capital One Credit Cards" option, you'd think that's simple enough to assume it's correct...??!! Right??? NOPE!!!! GOOD LUCK!!! No matter how many times I tried to get it connected, no matter how many different Capital One options I tried to look it through... IT JUST DOESN'T WORK!!!!! I went through TWO days worth of trying LITERALLY, just to get my Bank Of America checking acct linked!!! It's ssooooo frustrating!! They absolutely NEED to make their app/website options EASIER AND PEOPLE FRIENDLY... If they can do that, I'm sure Varo will be around for a long time!!! PS: and get a better Customer Service department!

    I have been using Varo for over a year and while the user interface is nice and the rates on the savings account are among the highest, I’m getting tired of having to re-link the same outside account with my other bank all the time. It’s happened about 5-6 times now that I will log into my Varo account to transfer money to or from my other bank account and it has somehow been “lost” by Varo and I have to resubmit my credentials and wait for 2 test deposits to be made, which means waiting 2-3 business days before being able to make the transfer from/to the other bank account that I already had linked. I have used multiple online banking services and none is as frustrating as Varo on this issue. I never have trouble with my other accounts forgetting or losing external bank account information. It would be great to de-big this issue that keeps happening. If I have to re-link my external account anymore, I will probably close my account with Varo simply because I don’t want to have to deal with the hassle of relinking and waiting 2-3 business days (plus the lag time for making the transfer AFTER having to yet again link my account) just to access my money each time.

    The bank and the app is wonderful. The customer service is horrible!!!! I lost my card and had an unauthorized charge on my account. I've been calling for the last 5 days and have sat on the phone for over 90 minutes each time. This is the only bank where it seems like there is only 1 person answering customer service phone calls and that is very unacceptable.

    The app is fine but customer service is rediculously bad. I'm sitting here on hold for an hour and a half after instacart double charged me and what's more annoying is I dealt with this same situation 2 weeks ago. I'm gonna have to stop using instacart, because I can't wait 2 hours to talk to my bank every 2 weeks. This is absolutely rediculous.

    I've had Varo for over 2 years was happy with it and recommended to people all the time,now they have become the Varo Bank and what a let down. Cant get thur to customer service unless you have 2 hours to wait on hold, I cant get response from them in email either. I've had the overdraft service for years, now they have cash advance. I qualify, I paid my last advance in 5 days now it says I dont qualify when I do. Pretty unhappy with the New Varo.

    I ordered a pizza on my debit card through Varo and they for some reason didn’t approve the whole amount of the pizza, even though the money was there. Pizza Hut cancels my order for being $4 short (which I even transferred more money from my saving to the checking to cover it) they said there was going to be a $30 hold on my card and that they refunded me the money for the order and couldn’t tell me why my card was declining. A week a day later the $30 hold is still on my card. I called Pizza Hut customer service and they have even expressed and EMAILED me saying they have already refunded the money and it should be there by now. This happened on a Tuesday the 8th... its now Wednesday...: the 16TH! When I called Varo they said it would be off by MONDAY... the 13th. I am a college student and had no extra money for the weekend to eat. I legit ate the same pizza for 3 days because of this. I WILL BE SWITCHING BACK TO “SIMPLE”. At least my paycheck was consistently deposited into my account the SAME TIME every week & I never had an issue with this stupid Authorization charge. Not to mention they know their app needs an update and they still haven’t made the changes... maybe worry less about overdrafts and more about quality service. Seriously can’t wait to get paid TODAY so I can switch my Direct Deposit back to SIMPLE! Side note : somehow my comment keeps getting deleted but no worries. I have it saved in my notes, nothing a copy and paste can’t solve 😌
