Maybe I'm rare, but I need to transfer money to/from outside the US. Foreign transfer was painful and costly until I find TransferWise. Now I can transfer money from my phone with much lower fee.

I use this personally to send and receive money in different currencies. One thing I love about it is the borderless account option where you can access bank accounts from different countries. You can own up to 10 foreign bank accounts and receive or send funds directly from there.

I’ve availed TransferWise service for several years now and had great results. Although recently I had an unusually untimely transfer (4 days). In addition I was a bit confused by the overly long estimated time conveyed by TransferWise on a subsequent transfer (6 days) but after submitting the transfer and to my surprise I received the funds in less than two hours, which is about the speed in which I normally receive the funds. I want to clarify my previously poor feedback toward TransferWise. The service I have received is for the most part Great! My only complaint is the recent estimate for the completed transfer. I understand your companies position that it would be better to over estimate the transfer timeframe and deliver the funds earlier than proposed, and I’m trying to wrap my head around that logic because that works great for most people I’m sure. But... in my situation an estimate of 6 days for a Debit/ACH transfer leaves me wanting to initiate my transfer 5 days early, but If the transfer completes in only a few hours it then creates another issue with my billing cycle at my bank and fees. Overall I rate your service as highly recommended. I will just have to cross my fingers and hope the funds arrive as they have in the past. Thank you, Lon

I have very few complaints with TransferWise and this app. It generally works as advertised and I have used it for a number of months now with few problems. One glitch is TransferWise’s interface with banks (U.S., at least), which sometimes does not recognize your account has been verified and asks to reverify it by confirming a couple of micro-deposits - a process which can take several days. However, if you cancel the transfer which prompted the request to reverify, then try it again, this has always resulted in a successful transfer on the second attempt for me. Both the app and desktop version of TransferWise also have trouble sometimes dealing with verification questions used by many banks. One additional feature which would be useful for the app (essential, in my opinion, for a 5-star rating) is the ability to download a pdf receipt for a transfer, showing all relevant account information and date/time of the transfer events, as you can from the desktop web site. Despite the above issues, I’m satisfied with my experience and TransferWise is an excellent alternative to international bank wires, especially for smaller amounts.

After the initial hiccup, it is smooth sailing - and hope this is how it stays! Very easy to use, setup is a breeze. As a matter of fact everything within Wise is a breeze! Love the new virtual card and that you can just create it, use it, destroy it, and create a new card. Fantastic! I have only one issue. Cash deposit. When you are in a foreign country and you receive cash, you are stuck with it cuz there’s no way to deposit it. Then you have to carry it around to make sure that’s what you are going to use. This of course defeats the purpose of also carrying Wise with you. The only way to deposit cash is if you give it to someone who has a local bank account and then the person will transfer it back to you online. Not everyone is willing to do that because even today there are a lot of misinformed people and they are scared doing banking online (especially “doing a favor” for someone), and they do not understand the concept, etc. So this is somewhat of a hustle. I hope this can be changed in the future.

I’ll speak solely with what I have used Wise for. In my case, I found this app looking for an efficient method to transfer money between my USD and EUR accounts. I live in Spain, but I used to live in the US. I constantly need to transfer USD to EUR for my everyday expenditures here in Spain, but I also need to transfer EUR to USD because of stuff that I still pay with my US credit cards. Wise has been my solution for that. And how magnificent has it been. The interface is great and easy to understand. The pairing with my Bank Accounts was fast and easy. It remembers the previous transactions that I’ve made in case I want to repeat the same amounts, I can do it with just 2 taps. And it ALWAYS gives me the best rates. I often check the current official price of USD to EUR (or viceversa), and Wise’s exchange rate is always extremely close to it. Which is great. It means you save more money. I’ve also had to contact Customer Support once in the 6 months I’ve used Wise, and my experience was great. I really have no complaints in regards to the customer service experience. I called with a problem, and they gave me a solution on the spot in just 15 minutes. Good stuff! I’m very much looking forward to recommend and keep using Wise for currency exchange between my accounts in the foreseeable future! If what you were looking for is a service that allows you to do exactly this, then look no further 👍🏼

I think wise has come of age having been tirelessly working to fix identified issues. It's an excellent option. Can we however have the options of a one-page receipt that doesn't show much, as well as in jpeg? That is, retain the current ways, but also add other options. This is excellent and congrats on the rebranding.

I’ve used the app 6 times over the last 5 months the send money from the US to Thailand. 5 of the 6 times the money was sent within hours of them notifying me they had transferred the money to my account. On the 6th time there was a delay of about 24 hours which is still quite fast. I would like to add that the notification/receipt they send is based on their bank setting up the transfer. However, that bank my still take some time to actually transfer the money. In my case the first 5 transfers happened within an hour or so of the notifications being sent. The delay on the 6th transfer had me initially concerned. I contacted my bank and the transferring bank and both said the transfer could take up to 7 days based on the banks policies. If you don’t see the money right away after you get the notification/receipt it might take a day or two for the transfer to complete. Best regards.

Love the app. It gives several methods to pay with posted costs & delivery times. Find the best exchange rate and it's saved for hours. Quirks: 1. The 'Tell us more below" doesn't allow for input. 2. You can only have 1 funding method at a time. 1b. Adding a 2nd new funding method failed, blaming my bank. 2. Fingerprint login FAILS. This is a major issue. Please fix it.

  • Invaluable Tool for Anyone Moving Money Internationally Apr 25, 2018

I waited for nearly 6 months before writing this review to be sure I was 100% satisfied with Transferwise. I move money from London to Mexico, and from London to USA on a monthly basis. I’m a remote worker who lives between Mexico and the US but work for a London-based company and therefore am paid from London. I use Transferwise (and the London-based account that I’ve setup via Transferwise) to accept my direct deposit and then move my money to my accounts in Mexico or the US, depending on where I am at any given time. This app works rather flawlessly and it has insanely fast times - faster than a normal bank-to-bank transfer at a very, VERY reasonable cost. This app allows me to send money to any of my accounts to ensure I have money to spend, money in savings, and money in other accounts which I use for bill-pay. This is an excellent tool that I cannot recommend enough. I’ve had no problems whatsoever and when I called customer service once to inquire about certain types of transfers, they were extremely transparent and down-to-earth. If you need to transfer money between countries - whether to yourself or others, this is a must-have app. Thanks again, your service is cost-effective and highly valuable to me. A great tool that I cannot say enough about.
  • The apple app glitched and charged my first card Feb 7, 2020

    By TonyShear
So I clicked Apple Pay and the screen glitched and it literally charged my first card which was a credit card. I did notify a representative and he told me it’s possible that I could incur a fee but why should I. The fee is from a US bank but not them. I am disputing this as this wasn’t the card I wanted and it never let me scroll my cards. Charges have been incurred due to a cash advance fee. I refuse to pay the cash advance fee. I would get someone to look at the Apple app feature even thou I would never ever use it again. Other than that everything else seems to work fine. I just connect my card directly now. Now for the app and the service of TransferWise I think it’s great and even thou It started on the wrong foot, I think the idea and the service is wonderful. I spoke to Alan and he walked me through everything and made feel very comfortable. Don’t take my three stars as for the service which is 5 stars but take the 3 stars for app. The Apple Pay option made me real nervous.

Sliced bread had nothing in this. I send money regularly abroad and this has saved me a fortune and it's easier and faster than the banks! If you send money overseas this is a MUST have app! 10/5 stars. Fyi I know where is another review stating they take the money twice ... I send GBP to USD regularly and I have checked with the recipient and I can confirm this is NOT the case. They take what they say and give what they say right down too the cent.

Used to love the application, the transfers were made within a matter of seconds. Now it takes over 2 days for the transfer to get completed. Had to pay someone and I had to keep them on hold as they needed to get some urgent medicines (cholesterol managing pills and anti depressants). I don't understand the point of paying extra for direct debit card transfers if they have to take their time. Have some shame.

totally unsatisfied now. I used to love this app before but today I noticed that they're not sending the right amount of money you want to send out. You already paid for the transfer fees and then still they are taking money from your pay out! there are additional fees now since they became WISE! Wise for they are robbing us off blind! scam!

Not recommend, there are better options. Maybe this was a good idea in 2010..but now there are better and cheaper options. The referral program is not clear and the new app has a lot of lapses and errors. More than 5 euros in fees to send just 260 dollars.. Don't waste your time and money.
  • Good service, horrible app! Jan 16, 2021

    By Badbluesman
I spent hours over the weekend trying to add a new recipient. However the app would never accept the person’s street address. After trying 8 or 9 versions of the address, I finally closed the app and reopened and started all over (a very time consuming process). I finally was about to set up my new recipient. The next roadblock came when I tried to send money to that recipient. I already had a bank account linked to another recipient, but apparently you have to set up your own bank all over again with each new recipient. I did this. The transfer appeared to be underway, but was flagged. An email said that it “needed attention.” When I tried to go to that transfer, I got stuck in an endless merry-go-round in which it would say you must go to TransferWise online to solve the problem. When I did, it just sent me back where I started. After repeating this 5 or 6 times, I tried closing the app and reopening it to no avail: the merry-go-round continued. And of course THERE IS NO PHONE SUPPORT ON WEEKENDS, so you are completely out of luck. I still don’t know the status of my last attempted transfer. I don’t even know if the money was debited from my account or not! In the future I will be taking my money transfer business elsewhere. I would NOT recommend TransferWise to anyone. There are plenty of other services to choose from.

Although the app is very useful for the intended purpose, it is crawling with trackers, from AppsFlyer to Google trackers and MixPanel ... Is literally swarming with privacy violations. And yes, I do understand the need of some of them. But in a world where developers can choose privacy friendly alternatives, there is no excuse for this current behavior.

I was a big fan of TransferWise. Money was arriving within seconds, never had an issue, really good exchange rates. But now it takes so long time to transfer the money. And there was no notification that there will be such process changes... It caught me by surprise... And now I can't pay my bill and have to wait 3+h to do that🙈

Was a big fan of transferwise!! Using from last 2 years and everything was great BUT as soon as they moved from transferwise to WISE , issues started happening..For each transfer to be successful I have to try 5-6 times, also it always asking to verify my bank account for each transfer, asking to verify my document again etc... Looks like they changed few things behind the scene and haven't tested anything resulting into frustrating customer experience!!

So I have this account for a long time. I got married and I don’t have my marriage name on my passaport a couple monthly ago they asked me to verify that. A send my drive licenses with my my actual married name on it after that a got my account working... a couple of days ago I needed send money to my family in another country and for my surprise I couldn’t get it done because they were asking for me to verify my account again. I call them and send my marriege certificate and other documents. So they send me a email telling image quality wasn’t good enough. Ok! I call them AGAIN! and send the files, the person that was in the call told me that the files was good quality and it shouldn’t be a problem anymore. Couple of hours later I got another email saying that they could not verify my account and I should send my documents AGAIN!. Look a don’t know what is going on! It looks you guys are holding the accounts for us not to send money right now. It’s is pretty bad! I need to send money for my family that are in need because what’s going on with this Coronavirus. I don’t see this company is helping us customers go though this. I’m very disappointed.

Good conversion rates/fees and fairly quick transfers to international banks, but very poor functionality in finding/linking family & friends that also have a TW debit card account. Other payment apps make it much easier. Also, the only way to delete a payment method you've added is to contact a representative, you can't do it yourself in the app or web. This function needs to be a priority.

I would like to withdraw my previous 5 star comment "This is faster than expected and the amount received earlier than my normal bank to bank transfer. I made the transfer early at 1.39am Friday and received on the same day at 10.59am (was actually earlier than my checking time). Why? Because the app said I should be receiving in 2 hours time. But amount went through from my acc to them. But they said they yet received my money. As previously was the same weekend and same bank acc. CHEATER!!

My son goes to to uni in Scotland and I need to regularly send money to him from the States. This service is awesome. I've been using it for about a year and a half and transfers used to take about three days to complete which was quite acceptable but recently they are just taking about 8-12 hours to complete which it wonderful. Thanks so much for the best money transfer service out there!! Some people claim Bitcoin is better for such money transfers. I totally disagree. TransferWise shows you exactly how much it costs and the other side gets exactly the amount you wanted to send. The small service charge is cheap for the peace of mind you have. Also transfers can be easily proved to the IRS if needed and since I'm transferring money for legitimate reasons from legitimate sources, this is a big plus.

Okay, have been using it now for almost four months and it is easy to use, convenient, fast, with very good service even when a transfer is returned with good background info on what went wrong, cheap (it saved me in the netherlands compared to my ING bank almost 1000 euro of fees, and ASN bank almost 700) so I have stopped all my transfers by bank and also do not use paypal anymore. WISE is amazing!

I first started using TransferWise a year ago and the experience was ok to say the least. It was difficult to setup a recipient’s account number (my bank is in Mexico, it will be different for your country) and it asked for all kinds of numbers. I finally gave up and stopped using the app. A year later I decided to give it another try and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. I was able to setup the account with a single number. The money was deposited sooner than the original estimated 3 days. I have compared this service to a few others and this is by far the best and cheapest way to send money overseas. I’ve already saved about 25 USD in my first 2 transactions. It might not seem like a lot but over time it does make a difference. The app is so much fun to use, I love that I can use Apple Pay to send money and I only see what I need to see, no more, no less. One thing to keep in mind is that money doesn’t get to your account right away, that’s not an issue for me. If you’re having emergency you may want to use a different service. Again, this will depend on which country you’re sending money to. Kudos to you guys for making TransferWise such a joy to use.

Silent force. So far, excellent service and serious app. Low profile, with simple, easy to use, no unnecessary features. They don't bust balls with notifications, paid subscriptions etc. I like their security system and interface, the way they notify transactions (x spent x amount left).General fees are fair and transparent. They don't hide conversion fees or try to trick you as...Others... Offers multi currentcy and Bank accs. I don't know about the Customer service, never needed them.
  • Efficiency of TransferWise Oct 15, 2019

    By Lanni88
  • App works well, needs a couple features Jan 18, 2019

    By Tomaszy

I have used this app several times over the last few years and have been completely satisfied. However, I had a very frustrating and time consuming experience trying to transfer money from my US bank account to someone in Italy. In short, it boiled down to not being aware that when you use a debit card, ere is a $1000 limit every 24 hours. Instead of a notice in regards to this, I kept getting a message that there was a problem with my bank. After speaking with support at TF, I was made aware of this. It may be in he fine print that there is a $1000 limit, but who reads the fine print? TF needs to fix this problem by making this limit clear.
  • Great but missing referral $ Oct 7, 2019

    By JessicaLynn_x
I must have referred 20 people using the link to this service so far, as it’s needed for my work and clients. However, while all of them have made 1000s in transfers to me, none of these referrals have paid out this far, and just a few are in the system as registered referrals. I spoke to someone on this, and even though they can see that I’m the first and probably only person they have paid this far, I’m basically SOL. Considering what they have, and will, make off of 25 new users with 1000s in transactions to me, I expected a better solution from them besides “oh well”.

The app is easy to use, at the first try the Initial transfer was going nowhere for 10 days Therefore I cancelled and started a new transfer, but this time the app asked for my login credentials to my bank online, I hesitated a little and finally gave it to them Wow the transfer was executed completely in under 24 hours, I wish they would have asked me for my online login to my bank from the beginning that’s why I’m rating the app 4 starts, price and convenience are pretty good, I will use them again in the future

  • Good fx rates but poor functionality Apr 20, 2019

    By Mileme11
For a card that advertises good fx rates, the app is very disappointing: aside from being slow to top up, it also defaults the payment currency to be the same as the currency that one wants to top up, so that if I am topping up my EUR balance, the payment currency is also EUR. A better way to go would be to (a) default to the currency of the country where the card was issued, (b) allow users to set their default currency, or (c) have no default currency, so that the user is always prompted to select the payment currency. The current design is such that, if one does not change the default, one ends up paying a commission to TW for a EUR to EUR top up and a commission to one’s own bank, if their bank account’s currency is not EUR. Very annoying. I reported this as a bug and got nowhere with TW’s customer service.
  • Great idea, very poor UX May 23, 2019

    By Anyabagui
I use transfer wise and I love it, but double security system just does not work . The notifications come to the top of the screen on your phone but the transferwise app does not see it. It is impossible to login to the transfer wise app as it sends the notification to itself and you cant access it. So unless you can verify yourself through mobile sms every time you try to log in , you are locked out of service . The problem comes when you are travelling and your sim is not available and of course the help line works mon-fri standard working hours .. Well I have your app on the phone , what is it actually good for??? Good for nothing really , but it says online if you delete it you ll be locked out of your accont .. Anyway, way to go guys with the UX
  • Great service. New app badly designed. Sep 21, 2019

    By padre.william
Before the new app re-design, I’d have given Transferwise 5 stars. It’s a great service, works simply and straightforwardly, gives you honest exchange rates, and has saved me loads of money in fees. BUT ... ... I really really dislike the new design where the “account” section no longer shows the currency balances, but shows the card info instead. For a quick glance at my balances, the previous design was perfect. Now the balances appear at the top of the activity page, and are oversized, so a quick overview is now impossible. Please, Transferwise, since you’re clearly moving into pseudo-banking services, let the banking-like features of the app work as you’d actually expect in a banking app.
  • It used to be a 5* for me Mar 31, 2020

    By Johnny Shallop
I almost want to give a bad review but I’m not sure that’s fair. Transferwise had made it super easy for my family and friends to send money to each other with very little to no fees (of course exchange rates). Recently, they’ve been charging me $100 a transaction. seriously? I was pretty much an ambassador telling my friends about the service but we are all left very unsatisfied now... especially in the time of COVID-19 when we have people to support. At least 5 of my friends and family have uninstalled the app due to this and it’s now even more difficult finding an app that used to be the way transferwise once was.
  • User experience has gotten worse Oct 10, 2019

    By Pvrtkr
Since they’ve updated the ui, I have a harder time understanding how much money I have in different currency accounts. Often due to internet speeds (I assume), my transactions are shown way before which accounts I have and the money in those accounts. I have to sit and wait to view my currency accounts While traveling, this is extremely frustrating as I need to know quickly if I have enough before using my debit card. It would be great if there was just one place that I could see a snapshot of ALL different currency accounts I have with transferwise and the amount in them

It keeps logging me out.why? So I had to re login but had no access to my old phone so I needed to register a new phone. It takes me to an almost blank page where I only see the change number/ help @ the top of the screen but nothing else. So I had to tap help and tried to email you. Multiple failed send attempts. My Internet is fine and the app updated to the latest version. I had to switch to my laptop to find the fully loaded page asking for a selfie of me holding my passport. Frustrated

I used to have people send me money by just using my email address I used to create transferwise account. Now it asks for extra details about me, which is fine, I get it – it's probably some anti money laundering regulatory measure. However, after typing all that was requested (with email address and account number already prefilled and greyed out and masked) it fails with "value for account number invalid". That's it, you can't go ahead, because you can't edit it. I am almost sure a Dev made a rookie mistake pass the masked number with stars to validate the form instead of the actual value hidden behind it. Who tests your app, seriously? Since this is an obvious change introduced recently that you now require extra details, how did you *not* test this most basic use case?
  • No longer happy with their service Apr 19, 2021

    By AndreaD_house_hunter
In the last few years I had no problems at all transferring many larger amounts than this. Two transfers from the US in earlier April went smoothly in about two days — to 2 separate accounts in Turkey. But then the 3rd transfer took forever and is still in limbo today. The app said on April 19 the money would be transferred (no time mentioned). But the Safari web page on my iPhone said 2 pm local time and then later it said 5 pm that it would be done. The link to my recipient says yet another time — early this morning! Now I have given up using their service. Trying to close on a property purchase is impossible under these circumstances. I will go back to using my bank wire transfer service, even if it costs me more money.

I have tried to add a recipient for the last hour. It takes the bank information for where I want to send the money and then the next page where I have to add the recipient’s address, the bank name does not transfer to the default area. It has a drop down to select arrow but the drop down does not work and it gives me a message that I need to insert the bank’s name but it will not allow access. I have tried many times and even deleted the recipient, tried adding devices, all to no avail. This app needs an update. I did not recommend at the moment. I can send money to myself or my wife but no one else. JS
  • No need to lie about delivery date! Aug 6, 2020

    By Blesseddoc
I can make an informed decision when given all of the information ahead of time. There’s no need to tell me that a certain type of deposit will be available the next day then as soon as I make the payment, inform me that it will take 4 days. It would be reasonable to ask if I’d still like to continue the transaction with the new information available-but that isn’t offered. Of course, it also wouldn’t be wise to cancel and wait 10-14 days for the money to be placed back into my account. So TW, you win this round, but you won’t get another chance to play with my money. Thanks, but no thanks!

CHEATER!!
  • Scam Jul 10, 2020

    By Fadious
This company took $10k USD from my account and then closed my account without any explanation and customer service does not answer anything on deactivated accounts according to their joke of a customer service line. Don’t get fooled. This is just a scam company. So now they reply to this review by saying that they will refund my money once they do their ´due diligence’. Why did they not do this due diligence before they took my money. The fact is they did do their due diligence and stole the money. Then you go to their website and it says that they can take up to 90 days to refund the money. So basically, instead of wiring my own money from my account to my other account, they get to keep my cash for three months and I am lucky if I get it back. This is what they have done to all their customers. It is a systematic way. This is the system. This company is the biggest fraud I have personally encountered and hope that people read this review and never use them. I also wish Apple would take this seriously and investigate this fraudulent company.

Be careful. I tried transferring funds internationally with the ach bank wire transfer option. I was repeatedly denied as it said my bank account wouldn’t allow this transfer, though I had transferred before. So, I decided to use the debit card option and the transfer went through immediately after verification with my bank. So, problem solved right? Wrong! Just got a notification today that my bank account is over drawn over $400. Hmm.. well apparently the transfer went through even though it repeatedly told me it was impossible, which is why I used the debit card option! So now there is a double transfer and I have r to wait weeks before getting my money back from over seas. I’m just lucky I trust the other person who is receiving the money, but it’s still going to take time to get my money back.. Oh but whats even better is that transferwise notified me telling me I need to cover the overdrawn balance soon because if they bank recalls the Payment from transferwise then I’m on the hook for the money from transferwise..?. Oh but at least they gave me a free transfer up to £500 on my next transfer... yeah right!! Transferwise Just really screwed up a lot of stuff with their app and really sent a lot of things I had going on now out of place and now I’m going backwards with other things because I have to cover this over drawn amount. why don’t they get their app right??? Be careful with trusting them..

I have been using Transferwise for years via web browser but I decided to use the app to make a transfer for the first time today. After 4 hours, no money in my account. Contacted customer support and suprise, the money went into my bank instantly whilst I was talking with them. It shouldn't be that you have to complain to for them to then transfer the money, seems like they were holding onto it. I definitely do not recommend using the app at all and I will be looking somewhere to transfer money
