Great Resource
Feb 5, 2022 By Gerard Gib.I would give this app 5 stars, because it is the best Te Rep resource I have found, but the keyboard drives me absolutely insane. The keyboard functionality has me missing button clicks, particularly the spacebar. Luckily this app redeems itself with great grammar lessons. more -
Apr 17, 2019 By Joanna BrettI really enjoyed using the app! Unlike other apps which focus on just a much vocab as possible this one focused on understanding sentence structure and grammar in a way which has been so useful! It's a shame there have been no recent updates as I was keen to learn more! more -
Excellent resource!
Nov 14, 2017 By EmmaJayne1I love this app! Thank you to the creators; I’m trying to learn Te Reo from the U.S. and there are not that many resources available. When I first started using Tipu I sometimes thought it was glitching as it seemed to repeat things a lot, but I soon realized that it’s just drilling the lessons, and it does this just the right amount to get them to really sink in. I’ve just completed all available lessons and I feel like I truly understand everything they’ve taught me. It moves at a really good speed, delivering enough new information to keep it interesting, without ever feeling overwhelming. My only complaint is that it doesn’t keep going forever! 😉 But, I will keep my eyes out for updates and look forward to new lessons soon. more -
Best app to learn Te Reo Maori at the moment.
Jul 17, 2021 By sedosibYou’ll soon forgive the kind of glitchy interface as this app teaches you more in one day than any other Maori app in weeks. Some software optimization would be appreciated, but nevertheless, great job, and please keep up the good work, thanks for making this app available. Suggestion to the creators of the app: I’m not sure why I know ‘E kimihia ana ngā hōiho - the horses are being sought’ while I don’t know: ‘Thanks’ or ‘How are you?’ or ‘Can I have a glass of water?’ ‘Me noho ngā tūru’ - (The chairs should be sat upon) seems like something I should be learning when I already know how to say “Good morning”, “pass me the salt, please”, or “Take care”, or well, anything, that should come up in a normal conversation. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ more -
Mar 25, 2019 By Jennifer Denekampexcellently created to effectively teach basic maori. couple of constructive critiques: scrolling up from 1 every time it's opened to reach your lesson is a pain. and when I created an account it erased all progress. I got it back by un installing/reinstalling, I'm not sure if there's any benefit in having an account but it needs to keep your progress when you create one after having already begun learning more -
Thanks!
Jul 14, 2016 By afakasi in AmericaBeing of maori descent and living in America, I don't often get a chance to connect with my roots. This is a way I can integrate te reo maori into my everyday life. Thanks for that. -
Oct 25, 2018 By definite generalLove the idea and the way it teaches. The only problem I'm having is that sometimes it doesn't load and the only way I'm able to get it working again is by uninstalling then reinstalling it. Not sure why it won't load, but no biggie reinstalling for such a great resource for me as a beginer more -
May 29, 2019 By keith nicolWhat a fantastic app. Really supplemental to what I'm learning in the real world. I would love to see games introduced and the ability to skip lessons. -
Oct 7, 2020 By popz nzLoving the app, im definitely learning slowly, however I came across a problem, when I got to apple, I says aporo is wrong, with or without the macron it still says "Aroha mai, try again". Ive taken a screen recording if this would help the developers. more -
Oct 1, 2018 By Katrina LGreat and easy to use. Tied in nicely with my formal Māori learning. I've found it helpful and enjoyed using it. Frustrating that after a few weeks of fairly steady use the lessons no longer load so I can't keep going. Uninstalling and reinstalling the apl hasn't worked. more

Feb 15, 2022 By lalocaa very limited app, focusing on vocabulary largely without context - not a particularly good way to learn a language, and decidedly inferior to both duolingo (which was supposed to have added māori by now but hasn’t) and the pimsleur method (which i used for conversational russian to great success). for better instruction at your own pace, check out the tōku reo website. more -
Apr 2, 2020 By Dean AdamA great app, good tuition. The macro usage is really variable. The same word in series will be marked for Macron or without and seems random. No overview for navigation of the main menu. -
Nov 16, 2019 By Ini-Isabée GunnLovely app, but serious loading issues on second use, and complete failure to load on third attempt to use. Pity, because the app itself was nice so far. Hope you can fix it. -
Sep 14, 2020 By Britney JamersonSo hard to learn. The app just asks what is the Maori word for girl. Then expects you to write it correctly. You can press? And they will answer it for you but then they move onto the next. They also only say the word if you ask. They need to teach you a word first, both by sight and hearing it then get you to review the words you have heard. Maybe do a few games to help you remember. more -
Sep 13, 2019 By Joanna LlewellynWell after trying to login about 10 times finally got success . Then wouldn't move off pretty blue and white piwakawaka screen. Complete flop. Can you have a minus rating ??? Because 1 star is too high. -
Aug 24, 2019 By Lawrie Andrew WalkerCan't work out how to use. Not user friendly. I used memrise for Spanish. Wish there was a Te Reo app similar. Been looking for ages, and nothing good available. Te Reo would really take off, if there was a decent app. -
May 9, 2020 By Gail CollierOnly seems to work the first time you login and after that refuses to let you back in. Disappointing.

Jul 2, 2020 By M V-HKa rawe! So simple and effective, teaches grammatical structure right from the start. Can't wait to do some more lessons when they're added! -
Jun 19, 2019 By Emma DavidsonReally enjoying this app. I'm living overseas and struggling to find any access to te reo. Its great practice, particularly for grammar and remembering macrons. really hoping there'll be more levels to come please :) -
Jun 22, 2021 By Jackson StoneAbsolutely amazing app that is repetitive enough to work, but still fun and rewarding. -
Dec 16, 2021 By Alice KeaneGrateful, loving this so far. Would love to be able to add the app keyboard to my phone!

Jan 27, 2019 By Samuel KingBrilliant app! Repeatitive so you remember words and structure but moves up levels before you 100% master a level so you don't get bored.
