  • Such an improvement! Jul 16, 2020

    By C.W. Caesar
This app is far better than the old app. I was considering throwing away my Signals and purchasing a Smoke device because the old app was junk. The Signals is such a nice unit and it was a shame the old app made it nearly unusable. This app has corrected those issues. It pairs much more easily, looks way better, and a more user friendly interface. Makes the Signals what it should have been from the beginning. So happy with the new app!!

  • I don’t get it. Sophomoric. Aug 31, 2020

    By Cal1212
It’s always been difficult to sync smoke gateway to WiFi. The new software makes it impossible for me. Very frustrating. I really don’t understand why every piece of software ThermoWorks comes out with seams like an intern wrote. The hardware is great. If you are looking for a sturdy, reliable, and accurate thermometer, I recommend both smoke and chef alarm. I DO NOT recommend the smoke gateway. I’ve owned it for three or more years. It’s just frustrating to connect to WiFi. Especially if you loan it out and have to reconnect to your own WiFi. Or if there is a software update. Simply put, ThermoWorks needs to get their software up to par with their hardware. Update: I called and talked to Ben today at tech support. The reason I couldnt pair my gateway was because of an iPhone change. He had me turn off cellular data and then go through the setup procedure. No problem setting it up. Wish they had put that on the setup screen! As other reviewers have commented, this version is a vast improvement over the old app. Upgrading number of stats from 1 to 3 (not 5 because of connect problems that require a call).

  • Great app, notifications could be improved Jul 18, 2020

    By Gulljo
It really is a good app, but I use this to remotely monitor my barbecue/smoking. I have changed all of the settings under notifications to include banner, persistent, always; however, you either don’t get a notification when you’re not in the app when the temperature threshold is exceeded or you just get a single tone which if you’re not sitting right next to the phone to hear it is a problem. Thermo works barbecue, while an inferior app did have this feature that would alarm until it was muted.

Much better over the previous app. Two things to add though that will make it perfect: 1. Quick set of various temperatures and probe name based off a meat selection (aka click chicken on drop down and 165, sets high temp alarm and probe name). Also add in custom user made Temps and Names. 2. Widget for homescreen to monitor in the notifications bar or right off the home screen of my phone. Both of these were available on the iGrill back in 2015. Keep up the good work, let's make this perfect.

This is a much better app than the last. I had an issue of a lost connection over Bluetooth with my dot, but after a hard close and reopening of the app, iI would love to see in the future some Apple Watch functionality. I would love to see in the future some Apple Watch functionality. I have to have my phone close to the dot so I don’t disconnect which defeats the purpose of the remote monitoring. I think with a watch app element, this could fix this issue as a workaround.

The new app looks more promising than the old BBQ app, but why are accounts and devices not imported from the old app? I can understand some data not migrating such as saved graphs but making your entire user base start from scratch is a strange choice.

  • Same issues w/ new app. Jul 20, 2020

    By Taglioni900
I don’t need to control fans or bellows, I just want my BlueDOT to tell me what temperature the meat is at while I’m in the house. But the ‘new and improved’ app that they claimed to be devoting massive resources to still drops Bluetooth connections and fails to reconnect constantly. Closing and restarting the app, turning the BlueDOT on and off, stopping and restarting the Bluetooth on my phone, and trying multiple sequences of all of those just results in frustration. Am I the unwilling beta tester for this lame update? I don’t know what high-school kid they hired to rewrite this app, but I hope he never gets a mission-critical software job.

  • Nice app but push notifications don’t work when signed in with Apple ID Jul 18, 2020

    By W Scott
Notifications are allowed but it doesn’t alert when alarm thresholds are exceeded. Apart from that the app is lovely. Nice graphs stays in sync with my signals just fine. WiFi works great. Edit: changing from Apple ID login to using my email address fixed the notification problems. Don’t know if that’s on Apple or Thermoworks. Updating to five stars.

So far so good. I still leave the phone on "stay awake while charging" to keep the app connected so it will wake me when meat is done, but it worked well last night after 2 FW updates on my signals. My brisket never tasted this good!

Finally! This is the app I've been waiting for Thermoworks to develop. It's not perfect but it is an EXCELLENT start and an order of magnitude better than the old Thermoworks BBQ app.

Very cool app! Works great, never had any issues with connection but I was close to the fire the whole time. Love the “sessions” which allows you to take notes and see a timeline of the cook from beginning to end. Very helpful if you nail it and want to remember what you did right or totally fail and figure out where it went wrong. Super impressed with the ThermoWorks signal and the app!! Nice work!!!!

Looks good but have a ThermoWorks product that is not wifi. Please put the safe cooking temperature chart on the app. Where is the thermapen MK4 wifi version? From the dev response. Nice to know one can get to the temp chart. It would be nice if it was more front and center in the app.

  • Huge Upgrade over Previous App Aug 13, 2020

    By deepknight
ThermoWorks hardware has always been a prld-class, but the previous app was a hot mess. Well, it seems they have heard the feedback and written a whole new app which works like a dream compared to the old one. Connection is great, values are easier to enter, and the display makes more sense. I’ve just completed my first cook with the new app and so far it’s a game-changer.

  • Great products, half-baked app Aug 3, 2020

    By Jhoward0000
I use the Signals, which is great, but apparently I need to switch to this app. Downloaded it and it requires a login but doesn’t recognize my ThermoWorks store login so this must be a different database. When entering a password it doesn’t allow you to paste (from my secure password app) so get ready for lots of typing or insecure passwords. It also doesn’t seem to scan for WiFi so you need to type in the SSID. Not sure how a proper development cycle and user testing wouldn’t catch these things.

The Smoke app actually works well. The instruction sheet that is included with the internet connection device is very confusing and basically useless. The instructions that are available when opening the app are very easy to follow. I suggest those instructions should display upon opening the app. Currently the user must dig through the app setting to find them. (Three stars as a result of average execution- 5 stars for the equipment.)

Doesn't connect to wifi. Says only connect to 2.4 g. Who doesn't have 4 or 5 g networks???? Sending back.EDIT--- apparently I have 5g and 2.4 g you need to disable 5 g and make sure 2.4 g is enabled. I was able to connect to wifi then. I re -enabled 5g and I'm still connected. I'm moving from 1 star to 3 star because it's complicated and should not be this complicated for something this expensive. Good luck!

I *LOVE* Thermoworks products. I use an MK4 and Dot almost daily. They are indispensable. So I bought Signals and Billows to help with my brisket monitoring. Those products are great too, but this app is SO frustrating. It has gotten better, but it's just not what it should be, given Thermoworks overall excellence with their other products. Having to set up wifi repeatedly, just because you touch settings, and not being able to connect with Bluetooth to change settings are sophomoric failures.

  • Not really that great Aug 9, 2020

    By myIgrillworksbetterthanthis
Paired this ap with a Signals device. 1st Bluetooth signal drops off repeatedly. Second, Bluetooth connection only works approximately 30’ with a standard construction building wall in between. 3rd wifi will not connect to a password that contains an exclamation point (!). My password contains an “!”, so my system will never connect to wifi unless I change my wifi password. Not happy.

  • App not working with older smoke gateway Jul 19, 2020

    By Sharpshootyou
I have reset my smoke gateway, followed the instructions and the two won’t pair in the app. Keeps saying: status unkown. Gatway keeps flashing either blue/ purple or just purple. Frustrating as it’s not something used constantly. Is it going to end up like apple products and every time you open a folder, it has to update??
