  • Great but needs some minor fixes Aug 9, 2021

The game closes randomly which I’m sure they are already addressing. Also there are issues logging in at times as well. I’m assuming both of these are related to a server issue with it being a new game. My biggest issue is the fact that I have to drive away from quests to relocate them. The first quest where I had to find a dead horse dropped it on a road that doesn’t exist anymore around me and would have involved an almost half mile long walk into a corn field. Every time I tried to reset the location I was told I was to close for a reset. God forbid the game sets up a quest on a highway or some other dangerous location and someone wanders into it. Other than trying to be fed to the children of the corn and the app crashing the games a blast though.

A fun AR game but the grind is real! It is not pay to win. You don't have to buy anything and just play the game. It'll just take a little longer to level up or kill tougher monsters. Biggest complaint is that the experience points are the same no matter if you kill easy monsters or hard monsters, which makes no sense. Plus, I hope there is a way to change your character name. The Great Hunt update made the game much more enjoyable and faster to level up.
  • Monster Hunter? Not really… Jul 30, 2021

    By Supafly duuuuude
Imagine being a monster hunter without a silver sword (a sword specifically designed to fight monsters). That’s your character in this game. For some reason the game starts you off with 2 steel swords in your inventory instead of 1 steel and 1 silver like every witcher should have. On top of that gathering crafting materials is an absolute pain. You get monster mats pretty quickly but you need a “bundle of herbs” to actually craft potions, bombs, and oils. To my knowledge, bundles of herbs don’t drop from monsters but need to be scavenged from randomly (and very rare) generated locations in the world. Talk about a progression roadblock. You also get bundles of supplies that you can’t open yourself, you can only donate them to people on your friends list. Yes, you read that right, you get items that you, yourself, cannot use but must be gifted away…. Also, it appears that the 4th story quest is bugged and never shows up on your map. I reached out to the devs about this but have yet to receive a response. The reason this has 3 stars and not 1 is because I actually do enjoy the RPG mechanics in a game. It makes it more enjoyable than Pokémon Go because the combat is more engaging and there is actually a quest system (albeit a bugged one) with skill points. The core systems are solid but it just needs some refining to make it feel more like a game and less like a freemium mobile game.

Fun at first. Then you see all its flaws. You get no coin for most stuff, and everything cost so much (bags, armor, weapons, crafting stations, buggy). You must craft NON stop for 30-120m for 1 item, then you spend 1 - 4 items in a fight. I want to fight what I can or try harder fights, but it cost so much in resource that I have to spend a week to get them back. That's for 1h of play and even way less. Not many quest/rewards in general. Weekly rewards is awfully. Got a single bomb once!

The Witcher: Monster Slayer is an extremely well made mobile game using the Witcher universe and Pokémon-Go style gameplay. Players, like me, who loved hunting monsters in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will have a blast playing this game. Players have access to potion, bombs, and oil crafting, skills and upgrades, and a simple yet rewarding RPG system that all flows well into the combat. In combat, you can use Signs(Igni, Aard, Yrden, Quen, and Axii) by drawing their actual symbols in-game to use them against monsters. You can also use potions, bombs, and oils to further enhance your overall stats in battle. Instead of catching monsters, such as other Pokémon Go style games, you get trophies from monsters that you get to showcase in your collections. Monsters come in three rarities and come with a set of difficulties that require a normal level of grind to be able to fight them. I haven’t done much of the story yet but what I’ve done so far has been fun. The writing is well done and adds very simple dialogue choices that helps the story flow better.

So far looks good. Need more stuff added though as not much to do (esp. short quest line). Too difficult for new players to get first silver sword, imo should be given though some kind of tutorial of how to use the shop for free, even though I bought the starter pack to support developers. Monster strength needs a bit more balance and stat sheet need to be improved to show damage (and how it changes with levels). Will update review as changes happen, I want to give 5 star 😀.

I adore The Witcher and me and my boyfriend have been waiting for this game for months! The game is really fun and takes practice which is good! Its not overly easy and takes time to learn how to parry, and kill the monsters. Theres quite a variety of monsters too and I love how they have all the oils and potions!! With that being said I think there needs to be a little more stuff! I think it would be cool if monsters appeared like in your little circle and not all across the screen? I think it would make it a little more adventurous and almost like they are ambushing you, or that you’re looking for them. Id also really like to customize my sword and add whatever runes I want to it and I really think we should also get a silver sword at the start of the game! We only get a steel sword and It takes a bit to get a silver one. I hope to see some cool updates and events in the future!

Pros: Excellent quest system and storyline. Great narration. Fun to find new quests. Cons: Gets boring real quick. It’s completely focused on fighting creatures, which is fine except that most of the creatures are much higher level and very difficult to defeat. If you dare to try fighting one you will use a large number of items on it, and since items can be difficult to replace you hit the pay wall real quick. Also, other AR games usually have points of interest to hit, but I haven’t seen anything like that here. It would be nice if you could walk around and go to taverns or something to collect some items and quests, but alas there isn’t anything like that. One last point to mention is the lack of additional game modes that allow you to play even when you can’t explore. If you can’t get out and walk around, there really isn’t anything to do in this game. A few AR games have added features such as a battle system where you can battle in your off time. No such luck here. If the area of interaction was wider it would be a little easier, but unfortunately it is dreadfully small. You can increase the size of it temporarily, but you will burn through your coins very quickly and hit the paywall again. If they added new game elements where I could play throughout the day, and if they made the map more fun to explore, I would rate it higher. It does have excellent potential though, so we’ll see what they add.

If you like witcher 3, you will like this for sure but there are no rewards for walking, in fact you have to stop walking to fight. The quests are lame and sometimes time gated and the monsters are redundant. I play and give gifts but only because I am bored and like witcher 3. Try harder developers (pretty please!). Update: I've kept playing and am level 34. It would be much better if the rare and legendary monsters weren't always random, if there were more opportunities for collaboration than just giving gifts, and a reward for walking.

  • Was excited for this but…. Jul 23, 2021

    By SweetiePieHoney93
I was so excited for this. But updates need to be made. I am also a big Pokémon go fan as well but this game is definitely a 2 star compared to my 5 star review for Pokémon. Some things I would like to see updated in this game are 1.) I wish that the monsters I see on my map that aren’t in my radius I could click on and battle. (I can see them but can’t battle then when I click on them since they aren’t close enough. Pretty lame…) 2.) I can see herbs all of my map but once again they aren’t close enough so when I click them I can’t collect them….. again lame. 3.) maybe incorporate like a campaign for Witcher training to level up more and get more skills points quicker and improve skills more to fight the griffin for the first task….. 4.) maybe introduce “Witcher huts” to possibly be able to leave/drop unwanted ingredients (herbs, roots, etc…) for other players. And have dummy’s to battle in the huts to gain more skill points or hit achievements. 5.) have an achievement list of random in game bonuses you can get when you do some many fast attacks, string attacks, blocking attacks, killing monsters, trophies earned, etc….. to get money for completing the tasks, or more skill points….. These are just a few of my thoughts that I think should come to the game…. Please consider. Thanks!
  • Pretty awful all in all Jul 30, 2021

    By symonwill
First off, combat is way too complicated for a game where you’re out in public on your phone where there are all manner of distractions. Trying to make sure you are staying aware of your surroundings in the real world makes the combat style not fun at all, especially when facing monsters that are actually somewhat difficult. Since combat is pretty much half this game it makes the overall experience not fun a d thus the 2 star rating. Also, I don’t live in a city so there’s hardly any monsters, quest locations are on private property/dangerous locations and this has disgusting pay2win micro transactions… no seriously, the micro transactions store is jaw droppingly disgusting. And no, I’m not going to email support about my issues with the game so whoever the community manager is that works for this company copy/pasting the same reply to people don’t bother.
  • Fun idea, could use work. Jul 24, 2021

    By t3hchri5
The game has great ideas, but falls short on actually letting you be a Witcher. You don’t have a silver sword. Want one? Buy it. The character customization is almost nonexistent. The range your character has to interact could be expanded, even if it through leveling. The blocking and strong attacks get mixed often enough to be aggravating. I understand the need to make money. Sell the coins, but have a way to grind them as well. Sell the inventory pouches. Sell another alembic, not a temporary one either. No one, and I mean no one, wants to buy a temporary item. The different weapons and armor all have different effects, but do they offer more attack or defense? No way to know that I’ve seen. None of these things are hard to implement and will make the game so much better. Otherwise, I see it falling into the wayside like Magus and the Harry Potter AR game.

Update: Since the last update I can't open it. It keeps on black screen. I tried to uninstall 5 times. It's not bad but you need data to play for some reason (even when the game has nothing to do with online activities), you need to travel really far for some quests and its more than 1,8gb which is extremely large for game like this. EDIT: "just make it without data bruh, because it's unplayable"
  • Terrible Combat System Jul 29, 2021

    By Ttttttapppppppp
I’ve played this game for a solid week at this point and at this point it is obvious you need to spend money to be able to get anywhere. The only real content in the game is the combat, and it is some of the worst I’ve ever had to try and use. The timing is incredibly inconsistent. The damage that you can put out compared to even the “medium” level monsters is painfully unbalanced. Without a doubt the designers want you to spend money on better equipment that allows you to battle higher level monsters. But even when you grind to higher levels, the rewards for beating those higher level monsters is minimal. There is an extreme lack of content, so you would think that if the only thing you have to offer is combat, you would take the time to make it playable. Waste of time even for a free game.

I don't get half the criticizing comments here. The game is what I expected and more. Yes, can be repetitive and grinding. I guess in time there will be more features. It's NOT p2W. I bought the starter pack(and i don't usually do that). But even without it is feasible to go through the game. You need oil/potion from time to time. Especially from the beginning. But the fun part is learning the monster's attack patterns and planning yours in combination with the skill tree.and then doing it.

Keep the Great Hunt range! It makes the game better, more user friendly and more accessable. Earlier random monster/quests spawns often were impossible to reach. Also I am really waiting for more awesome story quests! They make the game different from other AR games. Now for the improvements: I think harder monsters should give us more exp. Also give us more trinkets(achievements), the game itself doesn't have a lot of content, us gamers like to hunt/grind for random achievments ;)

Update: The September extending of the play area and increase in monster spawning has made the game massively more playable and enjoyable. NOW it's a 5* game. Returning it to the previous mode in October will be a big mistake IMHO. Simply too hard to level up and get anywhere... just a joyless grind with few monsters you can beat and quests that become tedious and too spread out.
  • Better than expected Jul 27, 2021

    By ShyougaShogun
Honestly impressed by this game, and quickly became very addicted. Unlike Pokémon Go, this game has me exploring new areas of my city, and going further and further abound each day. I’ve already seen physical improvement! Very happy as a fan, great work guys!! Only complaints/issues: game crashes a lot, even on my relatively newer phone. I understand that the game is new, and bugs need to be squashed, so I didn’t let that effect my rating. One issue that is a little concerning is that quests spawn in areas I can’t physically or legally get to. Once the quest has been accepted from the NPC you can adjust the location, but not before. The battles against elite enemies are impossible early on, unless you have potions, bombs, and oils. That makes a lot of sense, but they spawn too frequently at early levels. More non elites should spawn for low level players, and then as the player grows in level, so too do the enemies. Just a few suggestions! Thanks for all your hard work, keep the content coming and I’ll be a fan for life!

I absolutely love this game! It is so addicting and incredibly fun. My boyfriend and I play it for hours walking around our neighborhood. Only thing is the app crashes like CRAZY it almost makes it unenjoyable. Before you go into battles the app crashes, which is incredibly infuriating. There are major bugs and glitches in it as well. When it comes to collecting herbs or even getting credit for monsters you’ve killed it won’t show up. It’s a great app so far but I’m very excited for future updates! Hopefully ones that will straighten out those kinks and make for a more efficient app.

  • Getting better, review 2 Jul 30, 2021

    By Darktrine
My game is no longer crashing all the time and I am able to play, I just have two suggestions, first I normal play while sitting somewhere and not walking around, being able to click on monster farther away like in Pokémon go would be great, right now I can only battle one or two monster then I close the app because there is nothing else to do. The second suggestion is the same issue I had in my first review, every time I click auto for battle setup I get an ad, please remove it or have it be on a cool down, like the first time you press it in a session or once every 5-10 min, i find it very in your face and annoying. Other than that, it looks like a nice start to a good game.

Interesting game. Some things could be better. First 10 lv are boring. Rare monsters are to rare, after using eagle I can see only on at another end of city, usually left for one minute. There should be more exp for hard and extreme monsters. It is strange that hard nacer and cyclops have the same HP. It sometimes freezes and crashes after locking of screen. There should be option to set crafting of few same bomb's while you sleep.
  • Almost Perfect Jul 25, 2021

    By Despairblade
The game is well made, and I love it so far. I know it is fairly new and hopefully, devs will improve it. My reason for the 4 stars rating instead of five, is the same issue as someone’s else review. Main story quests spawns in areas I can’t or should not have access legally (private property, farms, etc). One fix to this might be the ability of spawning the quest in a different area, if I travel somewhere else. An example of that is, the quest spawns in a private property that I cannot access, then I go to the mall, and same quest spawns in an area I can access. Also, it will be nice a little higher of spawning rate for herbs. Once these 2 things gets fixed, I will change my review. Overall, great game.

It's a fun game but I hope they continue to add content. You should get mote experience points for defeating more difficult monsters considering you have to use resources to defeat them. Maybe be able to sell resources at the shop 🤔 More frequent legendary monsters would be nice too, I'm at lvl 23 and have only encountered 3 so far... I'm a fan of the September patch and hope to see more

I want new things to be added in the next update which includes monster contracts (so you can obtain coins), more customization options, changing Witcher schools, and newer Witcher armors/gears which includes Witcher design outfits that are outside of the Witcher 3 game. There should be outfits like adding trousers, gauntlets, tunic and headwear so the character can have more customization options. For the customization options, I want there to be things like where the character can change hairstyles, hair color, Witcher eyes colors, skin tone, Facial hair features for male characters, and other facial features like nose, headshape, chin, tattoos and so on

The gameplay is great, and the shop is well balanced. The major issue with the game is the fact that certain quests are failable without warning. I wouldn't mind this in a game with save states where I could reload wrong decisions, but in a game of this nature there should either be no fail states or some sort of safety net to avoid players missing out on content.

So far it’s pretty straightforward and it’s a decent amount of angles towards story, huntings and brewing also combat. I think it’s best to Bring this up is that I have found the school of the wolf to be quiet amazing although I don’t see that much complication In the game applying an update that allows the player’s Witcher avatar to be of a different school. (Such as the schools of the griffin, bear, viper, feline, & manticore). I understand That game is lore accurate Given that the schools had fallen, except for the wolves and one could definitely be in agreement they’d have more enthusiasm more enjoyment in the game if I had the option chose what Medallion and the disciplines that they represent.

  • Fun for a few days Jul 31, 2021

Fun enough, but pretty buggy and they don't seem to be in a rush to patch it, so I wouldn't spend money on this right now. Area near where I live has 5 herb nodes in a 15 min walk, but otherwise nodes seem few and far between. Have had to relocate quests putting me by a highway or inside construction sites. One skull monsters at least don't give any more xp than regulars which is lame, not sure about two skulls yet. Takes forever to earn gold the free way, have fun saving for silver sword.
  • Play for free? Right, lol. Jul 26, 2021

    By Moose Spoon
Everyone who has delved into the Witcher knows silver swords are essential for monster hunting, yet you start off with a steel sword. You will have to face “medium” difficulty creatures and get your but kicked because parrying only cuts down the damage you take by a bit and you need to craft a lot of items to make it through the encounter. Now you can’t find those items unless you actually go out and drive around because you need to kill a lot of monsters to get enough materials for just one potion or oil. And hopefully you don’t blow it else you have to start over. But don’t worry, pay some money and you can have all the items magically given to you. If it’s going to be a grind fest, stop giving people the easy way out. If it’s not meant to be a grind fest, then stop making it so almost necessary to buy coins. This Pokémon go pseudo clone needs work.

i can tell this will be a fun game as more attention is put into it after the soft launch. Here are the glaring issues after reaching level 5 1)crashing. my app will crash when going through loading screens. for example when a quest scene is about to be played. or if im getting a trophy from a monster for the first time. especially when I’m on data 2)quest locations and navigation. noted from others on reddit and my own personal experience, quests will take the player through private property with no way to circumvent. additionally, the direction the pc faces is inconsistent making it hard to tell where I need to walk. 3) battery playing this game on data starting with my phone fully charged will entirely deplete my battery life within an hour. This has been noted by other players as well. request for better gameplay in general; I think landmarks in the game interface similar to other AR games would make quests and monster hunting much more enjoyable and less confusing and challenging. Ive been walking and driving back and forth trying to figure out where the game wants me to be to access a monster or quest. with frequent crashes on data and quick battery depletion it really kills the fun.

Has an issue with daily quests and mob count. I'll kill a mob completing the required # for skill points or daily quest, but it won't let me collect the reward. I'll restart the game and the kill will be erased as if I never did it but all my items used will be gone from the fight. Considering how long it takes to create these items, added to the rarity of some of the ingredients, this is a major flaw. I'm about 70 hours crafting and 15 skill points down from what I should be.

Its ok. The reward for a week of daily quests was a monster lure. That's not actually very encouraging or rewarding. Its fine but not ground breaking and in its current state of "time investment vs reward", its for whales and not regular players. Its a shame as there is a good franchies to be used for this type of game but the balance of everything is just too off and grindy at the moment. Hopefully tweaks to it raise the satisfaction of playing.
