  • Love the game, but… Mar 11, 2022

I’ve been playing this game for a few months now. Following up with updates, content creators, the discord, and even doing my own research with fellowship mates and friends. I love the game. If you’re looking for a decent war game that requires strong communications and teamwork, with a play style similar to risk but with more interaction then this is the game you should try. Now my only complaint would be how it is advertised to be non pay to win. That is unfortunately a blatant lie. I am not against paying to unlock extra items and I enjoy the season pass rewards. But there is a clear difference in what a Free to Play player is capable of and what someone who spends hundreds (or in the case of our server thousands) on mathoms is capable of. Respect 10 equipment is nearly impossible to get for free to play players let alone upgrade them but you added it as a major feature in season 2 and beyond. All I’m saying is I would love to see some deserved respect and support of your free to play or low spender players. Stop catering towards those who spend massive amounts to gain fully upgraded equipment with the best stats and abilities for multiple commanders. I hope you see this and genuinely consider my input as I’ve seen already some decent response to the community and additions like the new red book challenges. TLDR: Awesome, Risk-like multiplayer, war strategy game that is outfitted in LOTR theme. Needs to balance Free to Play and Pay to Win.

The game has some really cool ideas going for it. All of the famous LOTR characters are in the game, and the game design is real good looking too! The game can be boring for the first week or until you level up high enough to where you can start attacking in war, and that is when the game really does shine! The (Pay To Win) is very minimal, because after each season, the game resets and this is REALLY SUPER COOL! Unlike in Rise of Kingdoms where you have people spending $20,000 and dominating year after year, in this game, after each season, the land resets, the positions reset, your commanders reset and this is just soooooooooo refreshing! There is a learning curve when you first download the game, so be prepared for that, but so what, watch a few You tube videos and you can quickly learn how to do everything very easily which is exactly the path I took! I highly suggest giving this game a try, it is fun and full of LOTR

So, when they first came out this sort of strategy mobile game flooded the market. Most of them are just blatant rip offs of each other and have the exact same pattern on overcrowded menus and way too much stuff to pay attention to and it was all hidden behind a pay wall anyway so no one wanted to play them. This game however, is so nice and neatly packaged and it’s so user-friendly and even though it has a lot of the same overcrowded menus it’s all packaged much more neatly in that your castle only has really five buttons that you need to focus on and then you need to worry about your commanders and units. This as opposed to the other games that make you focus on 1 million different things all at once. Not to mention that it’s packaged in a lord of the rings skin which is absolutely fantastic. And also, at least for now, the game is not paid to win. I’ve seen just as many people playing for free doing really well as I have people who spent $100 on it already and have roughly the same stuff as those who work hard for it. My only criticism is that I wish there were more tips and, honestly, more commanders. But other than that this is a great game and I highly recommend it!

Okay so I like the strategy in the game but when I first started first started playing I was a good guy fraction but they were brutal and toxic when ever I tried to help they say “your to weak get stronger your a spy”. Yeah that’s what they say then in the second season I went to Mordor and they were nicer less toxic but the top warband leaders never listen to my ideas WHEN GONDOR TRAPPED US I SAID “let’s go the Rohin they seam pretty weak and another group already attacking them so let’s help them”. But they said “no we don’t want to start another war”. And I said again “GONDOR HAS US TRAPPED AND THEY CAN DO A FULL OUT INVASION ON US”. And they said “okay still let’s not”. At this point I was facepalming myself. Then I left that group and joined a different one they were smarter but it was not really fun that much because they told me what to do or else I get pretty well kicked from the group and I could not war plan only they could at some times so I just deleted the game it was fun but players are mean and strict in that game and when ever you report someone nothing happens to them. Maybe you should have a staff member or two in each faction and they can check up on each warband to make sure players were being nice to each other and letting them join in and help attack and make it fair to all. And I deleted the game

If you don't mind spending a little bit of money, it's a fantastic game. While you can be F2P, by the time you're 3 seasons in, it's very difficult to keep up if you haven't spent something. That's not terrible though because I think the game is worth a little bit of investment. Gameplay is great, animations are great, graphics, music, lore. It's a really well done mobile game so I highly recommend it if you like strategy games or LOTR. Just be prepared to receive calls from your bank 😂

First, anyone thinking about playing this game needs to understand that it is not a farmville or simcity with dwarves kind of game. It is a PvP war game, where you must cooperate with other players in your fellowship and faction in order to survive. Farmers are not welcome. Fighters are. Second, it is a pay to win game. The game is very well structured in that it is possible to play all the way through without paying any money at all. But the top players spend thousands of dollars on this game, some of them tens of thousands, and it makes a difference. Plan to spend at least a few hundred dollars on this if you want to be competitive. Third, do not spend ANY money until you fully understand how equipment upgrades work. Upgrades are expensive and you do not want to wasre equipment. All of that said, this is truly an extraordinary game, especially if you are a LOTR fan. Especially if you've read ALL five of the books: The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, and the LOTR Trilogy. The graphics, gameplay, sound, everything. A work of art. It is deep and complex, like the books. Be patient. Come to learn. Come to fight. Come to win!

Great game bad execution I started this game mid season and joined a faction with limited players already. We are at the biggest disadvantage possible. No way to actually keep from losing. The enemies have all higher level commanders because they started at the beginning of the season. The developers need to figure out how to keep the game fair for newer players who join mid season maybe when a new player joins start them off where they should be at that point in the season with a couple high level commanders some land surrounding them and some buffs to help them build an army. The tutorial needs to be more focused on how to help a player build themselves up to be able to withstand high level enemies. Also one or two factions can’t have all the power there needs to be more balance between factions. Maybe have a limit on the number of people who can join a faction and if a player becomes inactive let someone join the faction who is new. If inactive players can be kicked that should be done as well. It is worth playing but new players should be aware when you start pick a faction with a larger crowd of people that way you have time to learn the game and don’t have to worry about battling anybody until you are ready.

I really wanted to love this game. The restarting of the seasons I am 100% chill with, because I love the challenge. Many games restart after each season (Apex..etc). My issue however, is that the commander levels ALSO restart, which I have NOT experienced before. I am perfectly fine with the ring, resources, & etc starting over, but the time invested in leveling the commanders is just ridiculous when the level will restart each season as well. Uninstalling.
  • Great LOTR game! Nov 27, 2021

This game is visually stunning. Collecting the different characters from the books and movies is also a lot of fun, especially with their cinematics. The game changes as the season goes on, morphing from a strictly PVE game to a mix of PVE and PVP. Late game requires a lot of coordination and strategy to get the rewards they have set out to motivate massive battles. My complaints: there’s no way to completely defeat someone. You can uproot their city which sends the. Somewhere else, they have the option to come back time and again. Some of the battle mechanics don’t make sense like if you March on a tile but it changes hands while you’re marching you’ll just uturn instead of attacking the enemy army waiting there. There should also be an easier way to time when attacks hit so it is easier to coordinate your commanders. The max size of the barracks is not enough for late game use especially after you have collected a lot of commanders. Love the game and you can play on the cheap and still succeed! I have literally only spent $1 to get Aragorn II and I am currently 11th on my server for total ring power! Very addictive and very fun!

so far this game is a lot of fun, however there is not enough instructions. there are tons of menu items all over the screen with no instructions for most of it. most of the stuff I had to discover on my own by experimenting, and I'm actually stuck in a few places. I will say that the music in special effects sounds are very impressive especially in headphones!

I started out absolutely loving this game. The fights were fun, carefree, you never felt like you were pressured to spend money. Now it's the complete opposite. They reduced the amount of resources you get while also increasing the cost of units. Evil side seems to get shafted in multiple updates, due to the larger player base being in good. And they do balance changes mid season, so you can go from holding your own against your enemies to completely shut down because of developers. Snowballed.

Be prepared for all of your hard earned progess and leveling to be thrown away without any prior warning to new players. By the time i felt like i could actually get into the game a new season started and reset absolutely everything back to level one. Money wasted, consumables used to skip time wasted (save them for the start of a new season, dont bother near the end), time spent leveling heroes i liked, wasted. I purchased the season pass without knowing the season was about to end, wasted.

Don't bother...aside from pay to win even if you spend all the money it's also unbalanced when it comes to numbers each season. One season your evenly matched evil vs good and next your completely outnumbered 3 to 1 which is a huge deal. Plus they nerf the evil side at every corner. Join the good side if you do play you'll have a great advantage. No need to pay at that point. Devs have a lot of work to do to balance the game play. Legendary commanders aren't worth the investment.

Had to come back and modify rating. As a LOTR fan, thought I would give this game a try. Season 1 was great. Competitive, yet even for the most part. Multiple factions had a chance even til the end. Did not get the sense that money drove the game based on the modest equipment from battle reports. Season 2 and realignment was disappointing. Went from casual to competitive in an instant. Obviously a great way to make money for developer, but also obvious that money wins the game, not skill.
  • Board game style = bored gamer within one hour Sep 23, 2021

    By Dodoboy18
Ok, so I gave it a good hour from 9-10 last night. Lore, art design, music, all good for LOTR… but what is this game? I picked the ring wraith faction. The game makes it clear that we are all amassing large armies to hunt the one ring, just like the story. Fine. I find myself acquiring really cool orc troops, I have 3 recruited commanders that are cool. It’s a land acquisition game though. It’s like, March here, acquire land for future war, use resources to build up home base… but where is the real combat? Oh, one hour in, I am finally marching in to a square where an actual physical army is… the battle I’ve been waiting for! … not really. You watch these cheesy animations play out in front of you and as far as I can tell, you aren’t doing anything to affect the outcome. It’s all about deploying an army that has balanced forces but man… it was PRETTY boring when it came to me actually feeling like I’m at the helm of a fearsome orc/Uruk-hai army that is trying to dominate the landscape. I like board games, but I play board games with dice and other tangibles that make the experience more enriching and random at times. This game is all about … “nice army… want that square of land? It’s a level 10… go for it.. nice.. you got the land… you want the next piece of land? It’s a level 15 piece of land… too hard… wait 30 minutes

Started off as a good grind and city building game. Unfortunately when a new season starts you have to start back at level 1. Even though you keep your heroes, any time, money, or effort put in are all wiped out. Even your clan is auto disbanded. Definitely waste of time unless you wish to just throw away your time. Don't waste your effort on this game

Put more time into this game than I would care to admit and I've only bought $2 coin pack. Definitely not fun for those who don't want to pay to play because all I am capable of doing is carving a path for my alliance to get to certain points on the map as they all are already at max level and I'm unable to help in any combat. I've been playing since season 1 consistently every single day.

Pay-to-win and lack of balance ruin what could otherwise be a good addition to the middle earth gaming franchise. I'm unsurprised that a mobile war game is PTW. What's surprising, and sad, is that it's a game within middle-earth; JRRT is rolling in his grave. And more depressing, with some tweaks it could be good. But PTW + ability to switch sides means VERY uneven wars. And buggy. It has potential though, so 2 stars. If ftw or even limited season pass $, I would give 4 or 5.

Season 2 is showing a lot of balancing issues. Faction player numbers pretty much make it so that only one faction can compete. High tier items increase power way too much. This wouldn't be a problem if it didn't cost real money to get enough coins to pull a decent item. Then spend even more money to upgrade that item because you need items of the same tier to do that.
  • Game review from player who played from the start. Dec 31, 2021

    By smartman360
This game started off really fun in season 1 and was full of opportunities for a great LOTR fan base culture. Slowly it developed into a p2w game and left the original f2p who were hopeful for a game where everyone had an equal opportunity to be a top player. The World Chat in the game is so full of inappropriate talk, trolling, name calling, and threats that it detracts from the game and creates a toxic environment. When the game first came out I was hopeful for a game deep in lore and activities but it is all repetitive and the lore is not present like it should be. The Christmas event was a kick in the side to its players with a poor reward system. The riddles in the Yule event were absolute trash which was a missed opportunity because it could have been a chance for players to test their knowledge of Tolkien’s lore instead it was all about components to the game. The removal of mechanics which gave f2p an opportunity to slowly grind to start matching p2w so that the developers could force players to pay into the game was a greedy move and created an inequitable environment. All and all after a full season and almost all of season 2 I can say that I left the game permanently due to the aforementioned points.

  • Not all about alliances Nov 25, 2021

    By Commander Reaper
The game is great so far since I played the only thing I hope is that the development team does not make it focus around alliance for example as a single player I can conquer anything I want by myself I don’t need to have my allies if that is the case then I’m gonna be happy but if I need to have our lives and will be very upset because that ruins the game for me I don’t like playing with people because people all the time. I just saw an advertisement saying that you’re not a paid to win game when you arePay to win any games that you have to pay to get benefits it’s considered pay to win I may not have true benefits are marching benefits but I have construction benefits people can pay for construction reduce timers for you are a Play to win game I could have a level three army but everyone else is only having a level one or two because again I pay for a construction speed came reducers any the increase the chances of you no matter being a building or Army benefit is consider a pay to win.
  • People just don’t know how to play Oct 31, 2021

This game is fantastic. I have never had a mobile game that sucked me in and kept me playing as much as this one did. Everyone who is saying you need to spend money is simply just an idiot. This game is designed for the free to play players like myself. Here is NO way to speed up conscripting units with real money. NO way to speed up grain and material income with real money. And you are only allowed to buy 1 commander when you first start up the game. You can not buy commanders with real money. You cannot buy land with real money. These people complaining simply had no idea what they were doing and got rekt. Try the game out. You’ll love the attention to detail in Tolkien’s works. Every castle, keep, building, troop, and creature has a clickable tab that gives you information and quotes taken directly from Tolkien’s works. This is a game that the developers put a lot of thought and care into. Give it a try and see for yourself.
  • Best LOTR Game Out There Oct 21, 2021

    By GoddessKite
I'm so thrilled this game is out! I've played various Middle-Earth based games out there and this one is just more together and fun to play than most. The only thing I would ask for is that there was some sort of mini-game (or games) in it where you could gain very small amounts of XP for commanders (or some other resource) but be able to play it as much as you wanted. It would make for a fun way to kill time in the app while you're waiting for buildings to be constructed or troops to be conscripted, etc. Overall, though I'm very please with this game and will be looking forward to gaining more commanders and troop types. Hopefully there will be updates from time to time with even more commanders from the books and movies.

I see a lot of other reviews ragging on the combat or the stamina recharge, but this game isn’t like other MMOS. Paying to win is tackled super hard by this game, and so you have to actually strategize when and where to use your stamina. You only need it for certain commander actions. There’s so much depth to the challenges the game throws at you, and this is one of them. I love how factions aren’t focused on fighting each other, so much as fighting the other factions (i.e. Mordor vs. Dwarves of Erebor), and the resources aren’t just simply farmed. You have to strategically conquer land to produce for you! Which I think is great! Can’t wait to see how the faction wars are handled, but it’s far too early to count this game out yet. Really enjoying it.

so far this game is a lot of fun, however there is not enough instructions. there are tons of menu items all over the screen with no instructions for most of it. most of the stuff I had to discover on my own by experimenting, and I'm actually stuck in a few places. I will say that the music in special effects sounds are very impressive especially in headphones!

It is a TEAM gang. If you don’t want to be active everyday, actually listen to your fellowship leaders, you won’t get far. You can play alone but those players never really last long because you are missing about 85% of the game. The servers are neat, the season starts off everyone is nice and having fun and laughing, but as the season progresses the game chat definitely gets interesting. Graphics are epic. Please stop holding mobile games at the critique level of console games, if you want 4k go play on a console or pc. On the money side of things, they have a season pass, it’s affordable, I would suggest it. If you don’t want that, they also have a 30 day token pass. They also have keep your money and still progress. You CAN NOT buy ability points, so everyone is waiting for a 20-30 hour refill just like you. Fellowships have to move as a collective, so it doesn’t matter if Timmy, Wanda, and Cosmo spent their tax money, if the rest of their 97 members didn’t. To The Developers, We appreciate you. I’m only writing a 4 because on my 30 day token pass, I went to collect twice and it said I collected but my tokens never appeared.

I have really enjoyed playing this game and learning more about LOTR (i haven’t watched all the movies but bare with me.) I enjoy the fact that i can grow pretty fast without spending a single dime but how i grow is still very confusing. They give you a tutorial as you pass stages not as you do them so you really have to guess about whatever or not yours upgrading the right things. I play Kings Choice and in every regular feature of the game they have a (? )you can click on to give you a basic tutorial and guide for what it is you’re on and doing. LOTR War has okay tutorials but i really hope they add something like this to where you can go and read over what everything does and how it affects your growth. Overall it’s a wonderful game and maybe i just don’t pick up fast but i definitely recommend it!

The game is a load of fun at the end of a season, but the balance in factions is to great for the orc side to win if the other players want to make a light and evil. I believe their should be no side I believe anyone should be able to team with one another evil or not because their should be no sides only war. I also believe their should be a cap on how many can join one faction because time and time again you just see the loth wining because everyone and their mom joins them making the game less of a good experience for any other factions because of it then it just comes down to them bullying the factions the want to be evil witch in cannon is correct but it shouldn’t be that way in the game you all want power it’s not destroy the ring it’s take it and use it for your own so their shouldn’t be a good and evil
  • Pretty good Sep 24, 2021

    By Shahs bend
Legit the only game that attempts to combat the whales being able to harass and bully anyone who doesn’t spend, you can’t attack from a certain range from your castle or your fort and you’re basically only put near those in your alliance (Gondor, Rohan etc.) you can betray but it’s not a good idea as you’d just be in hostile territory with no support as you’re now allianceless and all on your own against the entirety of your old alliance. You can teleport but there’s no where to go that you won’t be attacked. So all in all it’s like other base builders but with very restricted systems on attacking others unless it’s the end of the season and you’re going all in on the enemy to control the ring of power which is also a cool idea having a war at the end of every season

I love the game, it’s not pay to win like most other mobile games but the only issue I don’t like abt it is that the Evil factions don’t really have much in the troop department they are basically all soft units that don’t deal a lot of damage like other factions units and every other faction has multiple tanks while the evil on the other hand has 1 which is the trolls but then you have the other factions units that negates our only tanks which gives a unfair advantage in combat which then you tried to make up with siege units that are basically useless if you haven’t cleared all the troops that were already there in the first place which I would normally be ok with if I believe we should have a less of a siege defuff instead of the normal -70%

This game is very rough around the edges. Like extremely so. The user interface is barely intuitive if at all. The “Help” function doesn’t offer much help either. So most of the time you’re experimenting of how the game works, which could be interesting in itself. The war aspect is very simplistic. Being a FarmVille type of grinder for your main way of taking over territory like in all those other mobile games. BUT! Having a lot of players to work together on taking over regions and fighting with different factions. Finding a diplomatic solution to the problem. Building strategy. Is quite fun. So if you’re into an experience of talking and politics. This is right up your alley.

Honestly I really like the game it can be kinda pay to win but so far I haven’t paid a single cent . I did join a good clan so that is key as well. Honestly like this game more the GOT conquest. Also their chapter book to get rewards which is nice. Then there’s tip tasks which can level up commanders and if lucky get food rewards. Also each troops from different factions counter certain troops. Also I like the idea that u can have other faction troops and commanders. Honestly really like this type game so much better and improvement then most type games like this out there. NEW PLAYER get strong fast as possible and basically u gotta play until u can log in and play every hour or so.
  • Pretty good Oct 16, 2021

Honestly s pretty good game. It is much more balanced between pay to win players and free to play, relaying more heavily on time spent on the game than how much money you put in. However the factions are horribly unbalanced. The elves just have the most overpowered units and the evil factions don’t have the numbers advantage to make up for how underpowered their units are. Most often the evil factions will get steam rolled cause even their strongest units which are supposed to be really high damage dealers aren’t able to match the equal attack and larger defensive capabilities of good factions.
  • Please make some changes to settings Oct 15, 2021

    By Klye Pantheon
First things first sound settings need sliders as well as on off switches. Also please get rid of the fly sounds that randomly pop up. The game doesn’t need it. either that or turn that specific sound way down so it doesn’t sound like asmr, the sound itself is really irritating when I’m trying to enjoy this game. Also you should have a way to speed up troop production and another way to make money or trade money through the market.

  • Great game premise Nov 20, 2021

This game is headed in the right direction, in the current state it is I still enjoy it a decent amount as the fighting, expanding, and characters make it interesting enough. However there are a few things that need to be changed to really get this game going. 1) the screen needs to have less buttons. It took me a while to figure out where everything is because there are so many different buttons to press, this needs some streamlining in the sense of certain things being combined based on commonalities, or certain aspects just need to be gotten rid of. 2) the fighting. I want to watch the battle ‘live’, like while it is happening but I can only watch the replay in the inbox so I already know what’s about to happen so it takes away from the suspense and interest. Not only this but the characters that are fighting need to be refined; the animations done make it feel too rigid and unnatural. The fighting is definitely something that will make or break for many players so future updates really need to make it more interesting and really feel like a battle otherwise this game will most likely nose dive. Overall though it is a pretty solid game that I enjoy and recommend for some, but not all.

I’ve been playing this game since October of 2021 and it was amazing. Fun game mechanics and social aspect to make friends and have fair fights with enemy factions. However as I’ve watched this game evolve it has turned into a f2p players worst nightmare. The game is heavily influenced on pay to win. Other players will spend $100s-$1000s getting the best gear and best commanders possible to where it is impossible for even intermediate spenders to keep up with. The developers have also increased the difficulty for taking tiles making it even harder to keep up with everyone else unless you have spent a decent amount. It would be cool if they could have free to play servers and spending servers like RuneScape or something to balance out the players that go hard on spending. Even if a ranking system was added to make the battles more fair, that would be cool too. In its current state the game is completely unbalanced and the fights aren’t fun anymore unless you’re decked out in the best gear money can buy. It saddens me that most likely I’m going to quit playing due to this.

It is a very grindy game with little content. You will basically just keep collecting lands. Equipment is very expensive to get and doesn't have a large effect. The size of the world along with how long it takes to move commanders makes the game feel like a slow game of risk. Some will like it but ultimately the game is missing engaging content. I was expecting more fun content but was disappointed.
  • Super fun but… Dec 23, 2021

    By Sir not you
I preregistered for this game and absolutely loved it at the beginning. But have enjoyed it less and less as it goes on. The game is played in “seasons” which is good because of you loose one season you can still make friends and try again in the next season. However seasons are all but decided on day 1. The factions that start strong attract more players and then run away with it. The gap between the strongest faction on a server and the second strongest is usually huge. They need to make some kind of cap to keep factions closers in size to keep it competitive and fun. It’s all about teamwork and I love that aspect of this game. Having to work together to take big objectives and wage a war on multiple fronts is awesome. Again though a big BUT you’re not really incentivized to keep playing once it’s obvious who is going to win if your not on the strongest faction before Team switching closes. All you can do is annoy the winning faction and maybe slow them down but winning from behind is next to impossible with the current set up. Graphics are great user interface is good the devs seem to listen to the community and make good changes… Over all I really like the game which is why it’s more disappointing that I doubt I’ll keep playing after season 2 ends.

Played from the start of the app release, super fun figuring things out, playing with other LOTR fans, seeing commanders and units from the movies. S2 comes around, and now it’s just pay to win. You could have a week head start, the whales will catch up and pass you in 2-3 days. You can’t beat a R25, decked out with maxed out gold gear. Trying to fight a faction of them? Takes the fun out of the game entirely. You can use money to heal faster, get the best equipment, get the best commanders, build faster, etc. The only thing you can’t boost, to a point, is how fast you recruit troops, and leveling commanders. Great game, awesome they separated RP and mixed servers, but the pay to play is starting to get overwhelming. Wish there was some counter to make it easier for all players to have fun. Maybe put whales in their own server.
  • Dismantling Equipment for Materials Jan 27, 2022

    By Indecisiveness101🤯
Apparently, it was replaced with spending gold for certain equipment and selling equipment in turn. But I still have some equipment materials from stuff that I dismantled, and so a Horseman’s Helm is charging 300 Equipment materials when I only have 200. Since the option to dismantle equipment is removed, I can’t even get it. That is rigged. Terrible system, why would it still charge that if I can’t get more from dismantling equipment? I don’t know if the spending gold system is better for equipment or worse, but one things for sure: I don’t even have an option to find out. Change it back, or fix the problem. This game is a good one, but with such difficulty in finding commanders, even tier 1 guys, combined with this problem means I can’t in good conscience give it more than three stars rn.
  • An idle rpg for people who really like grinding Mar 2, 2022

    By rkbarry
I played this game for a couple months and even paid for an extra builder (!). The thing I spent the overwhelming majority of my time doing is grinding. You grind to get better lands. You grind to improve your commanders. You grind and grind and grind. I joined a fellowship. You have to join a fellowship to do anything other than grind. My fellowship was lead by idiots that kept throwing us at impossible battles. Once you expend all of your troops in a raid you get to - wait for it - grind. You grind to build up your troops again so your fellowship can throw them away again. I did this three times the gave up. There is no game here without being in a fellowship, and, from what I can tell, most fellowships (I was in two) are run by people who have no clue. Deleted. I regret the time I spent playing this.

Don't bother, there are multiple pre-formed super teams which if you're not part of or allied with makes it impossible to compete, Save your money and time, spend it on a game where the faction structure prevents pre-made super teams from killing servers. I am adding a star as the core gameplay is engaging which makes this fundamental flaw unfortunate. There have also been some bugs related to faction balancing which may have helped address the issue. The hope is that with further modifications of faction caps, server merges and faction transfer, they can prevent gaming the system so that the biggest team controls everything.

    By nubcakesrevenge
This game could do so many thing right. Yet they fail so spectacularly. As it stands I can not recommend this game to anyone until the Devs start taking it seriously. -Hardcore p2w structure. Worse than most games I have played. Unlike the other games I have played the p2w can completely suppress your ability to play at all. Imagine a month+ of not being able to do events and without the resources to do anything about it. -Completely unbalanced commanders. Playing evil has little point since they can’t match up with good commanders. The devs have zero concept of balance. -New servers/seasons are essentially predetermined winners. Servers with bring alliances over to the new server. Imagine that with a super concentration of whales. They do nothing to break up the factions by placing them in other servers to mix it up. So the rest of your game life is with these people. In the end there is almost no point in playing when you can’t do anything and unless you are on the super whales side you have no chance of experiencing the game. The fail is nearly complete.

I think my original rating was deleted? Anyway, there's plenty to do and a lot to spend your time on, and the early stages especially the first season is quite fun. But after that it becomes kind of pointless in future seasons as the gap between free to play and pay to win players gets overwhelming.
  • A cash grab I was willing to play Oct 28, 2021

    By Chaos overlord
Its a game of fire 2.0, but since it’s lord of the rings I was willing to try it out and its fine. My biggest gripe is that when I send an army to a tile and an enemy takes the tile and leaves, even if the army they sent has long left the tile and the transition time has been completed due to my army’s long trek to it…my army continues the journey to the tile and immediately gets sent on its journey back. I cant even make them turn back because if they march over three minutes you cant make that order. Its dumb that I have to wait for them to complete their journey and then have to wait even longer for them to return. Ive had instances where theres 15 minutes left on their 20 minute journey and I see their targeted tile be taken by another faction and I’m here livid having to to wait 35 minutes for my army to return from a fruitless journey. Fix that mechanic.
  • Could be a lot better Feb 8, 2022

    By awildnunez
I don’t understand why the game gives you a small amount of specialty armies (Beornings, Ents, etc) out of nowhere but then make it impossible to get more unless you happen to join one of the factions nearby. My faction was being attacked by someone from a different faction and there was nothing we could do because we couldn’t figure out how to find out where the player was coming from nor could we attack them back after they kept overtaking our land. And the help section is not helpful at all, because it doesn’t explain much beyond the bare basics of the game and the search function didn’t work for me. Also, why make a war game if you can’t do anything to assist in the actual battles? I thought I’d be actually fighting, not just watching an animation of how the battle plays out. Graphics are great, but overall disappointing.

This game could have been great. It takes at least a week of playing it to understand what is actually going on. There are a lot of power systems and wait timers which is annoying, but the absolute most egregious part of this game is how utterly pay-to-win it is. You can have maxed your commanders out at lv. 50 and have decent troops and gear, but if you go against someone who’s spent a bunch of money on this game, you’re going to lose and you’re barely going to make a scratch in their forces. It’s frustrating enough that I may just quit because it happens at least twice a day for me. It’s not fun waiting 7 hours to have enough troops to form 5 decent armies only to have all 5 of them get one-shotted the moment I get to the battlefield because Winston spent $23,000 on mommy’s credit card.

I’ve spent the last four days on this game, it’s just another game you need to spend money in game in order to advance or keep up with everyone else. You’ll end up spending over $10,000 on this game to be disappointed with how you get to navigate the map and not to mention the troop loses that you suffer, this game needs a lot of work. You can spend days training troops then to have them wiped out by their over powered lands. There are way to many people to compete with on each server. You also have to constantly exit out of the game to make certain features work. You also get kicked off the game multiple times because it crashes. It’s addicting, but not worth getting hooked. I suggest you stay away.

The game isn't at all how they advertise it. Don't fall for this it's just another pay to play scam to make money off you. Every faction in the game is the exact same with no difference in playing styles at all. They say you can play as mordor but really mordor is identical to everyone else in the game. Also it takes so long to upgrade and build stuff (base, character development) that you end up waiting days to do anything unless you spend money for it. Would not recommend this game.
  • So much promise, now squandered for money Mar 9, 2022

I have played a lot of p2w games. Some are good, some are bad and this started off season 1 as the best p2w game I had ever played. Whales are limited in the amount of moves their commander can make, the resources they can acquire and they can not speed up troop training. F2p players could actually have an impact and there was a gear dismantling system in place so that, one day, f2p players could get the gear they wanted, even if the affixes were bad. The devs removed dismantling and now if you don’t spend a ton of money it’s very unlikely you get anything you need for your favorite commander. It is pure lottery and p2w now. The balance in the game has become skewed and there are blatant issues that the devs ignore. Witch King is broken and for the most part the rest of evil is terrible. On the good side, it’s a bunch of Gandalf the Grey/White spam and Theoden spam. Which is fine if thats the meta but it’s been like this for 2+ seasons with no real changes. It has become boring, stale and caters only to the p2w. The game had so much promise at the start because f2p and low spenders could still be relevant and have impact. Now it’s become clear the game is a cash grab and the devs don’t care about the players

The initial premise of the game is a worthy one but horribly executed. Factions are space limited and if you decide to choose or are forced to choose a smaller faction then you have very little control of your journey as you will be constantly bullied by larger factions. Large portions of each season become meaningless due to super groups allying. Updates to the game are only making the issue worse and I requested a full refund.
