Syntaxity, Since finally trying Blackthorn Castle last year, I was thoroughly impressed by the lack of glitches, smoothe gameplay with a functional and easy to use User Interface, explorative setting locations, challenging yet not too difficult to beat, quality graphics, realistic style, sound effects and music as well as the adventurous nature of these games. One after the other, I tried each game and delightfully found the same satisfaction in all (current) six. Then, you released your bountiful update for the Lost Ship, which was originally much too short. Now seeing the pattern of adding similar updates and extra content, in order of original release, I eagerly await more to be released. If I had to describe these games, in as few words, I would say they are honestly must-haves and instant buys for this genre. If a new game were to be released, I would buy it as soon as I found out about it. Having them all up to now is not enough because they are so satisfying. But there's more. I discovered an interesting alternative to their replay value. Sure once you play them you might get tired. I liked Blackthorn so much I kept replaying it, but with an unexpected challenge I put to myself. Memory. I've repeatedly played them several times each as a way to stregthen my memory So, I look forward to each new game/additional content Syntaxity releases. To be honest, you couldn’t release add-on or new game content fast enough. Thank you.

I’d knock off half a star for something things being nearly impossible to see even on a larger format phone screen. But the game was a lot of fun, and I’d happily play any more like it. Fast travel is worth the price ($1). Doesn’t help you beat the game, just saves some taps while going screen to screen, but it’s a time saver in the late game. And it supports the dev in creating more games like this.

Fun game - reasonably easy to medium puzzles. Some were 'out there' but still enjoyed playing it like many of the other games from this developer.
  • Fun game, interesting story, challenging Sep 22, 2018

This was a fun game that was definitely on the longer side. I just could not have completed without the walkthrough that I found online. Some ways to use items were easier to figure out while others, I would never have figured them out. I had to go to the walkthrough. I may have turned to the walkthrough sooner then I should have but there were many that just didn't not make sense. How would I know to use "item A" that I found a while ago on this other thing to get the item this other area is hiding? Lol like green potion, fishes, smoke?!? There needs to be some sort of basic hint of something or some basic guidance on what to do with a given item. Some vague idea to just get in the same area as to where you would possibly use the item, then we can figure it out from there. If we buy the hints then we can get more specificity there. Would still recommend though! Definitely challenging and takes a while to go through!

Just like all the rest. All your games are the same pretty much. I haven't seen any difference in quality. I wish you'd improve and learn. These games are interesting and not bad. Some things are lacking like story and some puzzles are just like " how the heck was I supposed to figure that out". Overall not bad though. I just want to see some improvements in next game. Although it doesn't look like anything new has come out in forever

This is a relatively easy puzzle game compared to some, but there are enough puzzles that lead to other puzzles that make it entertaining for a few hours. I appreciate the visuals on the iPhone. Some gamea like this end up having clues that are hard to find because of the screen size. In this game, most can be seen well enough with a couple of exceptions. Thanks for the free version, which just means missing out on the fast transport and clues. Did not need the clues, and fast transport just speeds up moving around.

Love the games by Syntaxity! These are really solidly made games,I saw no glitches nor bugs. The art work was well done and imaginative, and the puzzles just the right amount of difficulty. If you can't figure something out, often you can work on a different part instead for awhile--it's not completely linear. I LIKE that, it adds to the complexity (sometimes you just haven't found the clue part anyway). Auto camera pics of clues is a great touch. Looking forward to playing more!

I enjoyed playing this. Challenging but not so difficult that I got frustrated. The only criticism I have for this actually applies to all of this author’s games and that is that the artwork could use a bit of tweaking in the perspective department. Example: the net and the fish. The spatial relationships there are pretty crude. But maybe that’s the price you have to pay with the two-dimensional format. And perhaps it keeps the memory requirements down. I can say that the game played nicely for me with absolutely no bugs. It was a nice down-time diversion. Thank you!

This game reminds me a lot of an old pc game called MYST. It's just hard enough with its puzzles and clues to not let you blast through it without thinking, and just easy enough to not have to use a walkthrough the entire time. I love the atmosphere and theme of the game, very appealing and rich. Cant wait for more titles from this theme!

There are some fun puzzles in this game, but a lot of annoying elements. There are many places where you need to notice the one thing on your tiny screen that is a slightly different shade, or barely out of place. With so many locations, if you don’t notice it, you spend a lot of time running from place to place, clicking everywhere to see if you missed something.

  • Smoke disappeared Jul 17, 2018

    By skinnydragonfly
I really liked this game. But then when I tried to bottle the smoke, it wouldn’t do it. I tapped on something else in the scene, then went back to try to bottle the smoke again and the lab coat and the smoke was gone and the jar was empty! I needed the clue or object, so I really can’t continue the game. I reset it. Hope it doesn’t happen again.

Working on this game and I got to scene 58. Solved the puzzle, green crystals appeared and then just disappeared. Could not retrieve them. I guess my only solution is to restart the game. This kind of nonsense drives me nuts. You need a reset button on every scene.

Wow! Amazing game, this one probably took me the longest to complete out of all the games from this developer, challenging and fun. I think this one even has playability for me, because I was going back and forth, forgetting what I had done, all part of the fun in a point-and-click game. I loved the graphics, they are very clear and the storyline is great in this game. It really felt like I was exploring between different worlds.
  • Really enjoyed this game Mar 4, 2018

    By Cooper-Tess
The graphics are pretty and the puzzles are engaging. There are two kinds of hints - one that tells you the area to go to to try and figure out what to do. The second hint gives you a link to a video showing you what you need to do in the area from the first hint. Between the hints you can always move on and not remain stuck in one area. Very relaxing game. Please make more games like this!

My 8 yo grandson said “I can’t even say how good these games are” We are getting ready to start our last game of yours and we just can’t wait for your next one to come out. We have had such a great time playing these together. We downloaded the game on my phone and his tablet and each played our own game but stayed together. It made it so fun!

These are the very best in this genre! The graphics are stunning, no other game like this comes close. Hours of fun, well worth the modest price. I can’t wait until the next one. Luckily, they’re so enjoyable you can play them multiple times while waiting. The last one was Blackthorn Castle 2. Hoping it’s not long for the next.

  • Fast travel and hints now cost $ Oct 6, 2017

    By J33123
This was my second time playing this game. The first time the fast travel and hints were free, included in the initial price of the game. I deleted it from my iPad to make room for other games, and then when I downloaded it again the hints and fast travel cost money! I am annoyed that I now have to pay for these things which were included earlier. Also, the lab coat disappeared when I put it on the chimneys, but then reappeared later once I lit the fire. We were worried it would prevent us from finishing.
  • Addictive but ending is anticlimactic Jul 22, 2019

    By Rednessa
The game was great. Beautiful, fun, and challenging yet attainable puzzles. The downside was, I finished it within 24 hours and at the end after completing the entire ‘mystery’ your only reward is a letter promising more exploration. The only way I would improve this game would be a more complexing story, maybe bits more story as you play and a bit more dazzle at the end to satisfy and fulfill our accompaniment. The rewards at the end of the story offered no satisfaction or gratification of purpose.
  • Far more enjoyable! May 21, 2018

    By Cinfy123456789
Enchanted Books was far more enjoyable than the others. Being able to jet to the areas took away the tediousness of travel. I especially appreciate the map to look up where you saw things. It’s hard to remember so much, especially if you stop and come back later. The only downside would be that without the help some puzzle are not solvable because they had no relevance to what you are currently working on. I would like to solve more on my own through logic.

Nice graphics. Pretty good length. Puzzles irked me a bit. Some of the item locations seemed particularly illogical, even compared to other games of this type. The chemistry type puzzle was rather significant, but totally unexplained. How does your character even get the idea to try this? A priori reasoning?

So close to 5 stars. Fantastic graphics & easy navigation, but it's impossible to play without hints & cheats. About half the puzzles deactivate once completed-- the other half do not which only serves as a confusing distraction. I'm pretty good at this game genre, but was annoyed by how many times I had to rely on a walk-thru video.
  • Mar 20, 2019

    By Kamran Mammadov
Nice game. The only downside is that some clues are not found logically, but by the need to tap the whole screen. Or some like the "chalk on the wall". Come on, why would I even think to press that part of the screen? Otherwise the game is interesting, though

I'm glad I got the full version for free from a sale as this game has several flaws interfering with gameplay: 1. Plot too vague to tell what end goal is; 2. Puzzles seemingly arbitrary in execution; 3. Pixel hunt needed to find some items/clues; 4. Confusion from being able to zoom in on scenery related to already-solved puzzles; 5. Tedious navigation without paying for shortcut system. It's okay for what it is and the graphics look nice, but there are better games of this genre that are free.

I played this game about a year ago and had it in my family library. When I installed it on my new tablet I was surprised to find that hints and the fast travel now require an in app purchase! They came with it in the old version and you could also choose to skip the nearly impossible puzzle at the light house. Disappointing! Otherwise it was an enjoyable game.
  • Oct 14, 2019

Fun till about half way through. At about the halfway point the puzzles started to become a bit of a stretch and one or two I never would have figured out without a walk through because they just didnt make much sense and there werent any directions to get me to preform those specific actions.
  • Okay. Needs work! Apr 20, 2021

    By Reviewer's Gamble
The gameplay music are alright for what it’s worth... but that’s where the rouse ends. The issues come about when you try the game... glaring problem are the fact the hints and fast travel are low locked behind a dame paywall! Another issue is that the puzzles are fine but you have to use a lot of guesswork, since aforementioned the issues concerning hints and payment!
  • Jun 18, 2020

    By Steve J
Difficulty started off great but derailed, becoming more about finding very hidden items than solving puzzles. The few times I had to use a walkthrough were b/c of things I'd missed despite tapping very near them. I hate having to blindly tap to find items, but it's esp annoying when doing so often results in accidentally going to another screen. Also, the main screen loads far too slowly, & requiring extra purchases to unlock things on a paid game is absurd. & there's a minor camera bug.

Love the game but wish that when Free on "Apps Gone Free" with hints enabled that updates would not take that away! Also, its not truly free if you haveto pay for hints or quick travel. (deleted original review due to me veing stupid and forgetting about book in resources is used for slow travel, which I would use anyway.
  • Disappointed Dec 28, 2018

Only managed to explore the first three rooms. Graphics were good, but I found I needed a hint to proceed. Disappointed that I would have to spend an additional $0.99 cents for hints. I don't feel hints should be an extra cost, so deleting game.
