  • Great content, but app needs work. Nov 29, 2020

    By Chris Mascia
Every bit of content I've checked out has been phenomenal. So far, "Notes From the Tilt-a-Whirl" audio book has been my favorite. If I could rate separate categories, content would get five stars. Unfortunately, the app leaves a bit to be desired. The biggest drawback is that your place in videos and audiobooks is not saved when you leave the app. That means you have to remember about where you were and manually search for your place. It's particularly difficult for the audiobooks because they aren't broken up into chapters in the conventional way. Each chapter is not it's own track. There is one continuous track but the timer resets to zero at each chapter break. Unless this bug is fixed, I wouldn't pay a subscription for access to this content.

Content is spectacular. Supporting this ministry directly by supporting Canon Press’s own platform is very smart in our day and age. Content I give 5 stars. Critiques: The layout is a bit confusing. It is hard to navigate and find the content I want. Also a HUGE issue is not being able to save my progress when listening to an item (lecture or book). I have to manually write down the time stamp of where I left off and even then, scrubbing precisely through something on this app is very sloppy. Please understand these issues are a BIG problem that are significant barriers to users being able to enjoy the content. For these reasons only I am giving it 3 stars.

And getting better all the time. Just finished The Winter King a couple weeks ago and it was amazing. All of the content is a treasure trove of goodness and they keep adding more! Every time I open the app it adds value to my family. I really don’t know how we made it this far without having the Canon app all those many years. I’m hopeful that at some point in the future the content quantity will reach critical mass sufficient to cut the cord to other entertainment media apps.
  • Love the content, frustrated with the functionality Feb 18, 2021

I love the content on this app! However, it is extremely frustrating that I can’t use my downloaded content offline. I work in a place where I get no cell service or wifi connection, so I have to download everything I listen to. When I select something I’ve downloaded on the Canon App to listen to, nothing will play and it acts like it is not downloaded. It is extremely frustrating especially since I pay for a service that I can’t really use much. Please try and fix this issue soon, or I’m afraid I might have to cancel my subscription until it is fixed.

The content is 5 star worthy. Very rich and exhaustive. My only critique is the inability to play the video content without leaving the video open. On long drives I'd like to hear the video content much like a podcast but would have to burn my screen for lengthy periods of time in order to just listen. Please allow for the video to play in the background or maybe make the audio versions of content available also.
  • Great content. Still needs work Jan 8, 2021

Douglas Wilson and the people at Canon are giving great content and access to wonderful resources. I’m thankful for it and happy to pay for it. However the app is consistently buggy. Doesn’t save where you are at in sermons, and books. Could use better descriptions of content and landing pages for each individual content piece. And if audio books had better reference options to be able to find chapters and sections. When you lose your spot half way through a book and then just have to guess your way to find the spot is difficult.

The content is phenomenal but the user experience is sub-par. App doesn't save location in audio books, doesn't keep up to date with what's actually "in progress" and rather shows things that have already been finished, and there is no way to remove things from "Saved" list. This compounds with the not tracking progress issue as things I've already finished show up inmy saved list also. Hope the feedback helps future improvents!

The content produced by Canon Press is life changing. I and my family have grown closer together because of their work. And now! You can access their books and material with a subscription here. It’s cheaper than buying a book a month (or close to a nice cup of coffee a month if you do the annual subscription) and you get an immense amount of goodness right here. I’m eager to get started. I can’t recommend Canon Press enough.

Love the content, but the app is glitchy. Please Fix and I'll give it the 5 stars it deserves! Ex. *I'm trying to work through the "Reading the Bible (AGAIN)..." series. I choose it from the "Home" screen, I get redirected to the "Listen" Tab. Thankfully, this is a new release or I'd have to search each subject for it. THEN I choose it, find my last episode. Lastly, as I'm working through the episode, if I hit my Back/Previous button on my phone it takes me all the way back to the home tab rather than back to the previous screen where all the episodes where found. It just minimizes the episode, taking me back to square one. **It generally doesn't even show up in the "In Progress" section on the home screen either. ***No interaction with audio player when phone is placed sideways

Content is great. Like other reviews say, it's glitchy and hard to navigate. More options needed. Ability to turn off autoplaying unless the content is downloaded is needed ASAP. Lack of that feature has caused the app to chew through huge amounts of data when it unknowingly connects to Bluetooth enabled devices (like headphones that are on, or an idling vehicle) and play constantly. Fix that and it's a 5. Right now the options are just far too lacking.

I was lured into downloading due to the promise of a free audiobook. Lo and behold, upon clicking the link and downloading the app, the audiobook in question is locked unless you're an annual subscriber, for 70 dollars. At least, this is the info I'm presented with, so either this is a shady way to get people to subscribe, or the 'deal' has been extremely badly implemented. 2 stars - it would be 1 but there seems to be some decent stuff on the app. Sorry chaps play stupid games win stupid prizes

I really enjoy the Canon app, and what I mean by that is the content. New content is regularly posted. I am really enjoying the Man Rampant series at the moment. The guys of Canon Press have quite a number of enemies around - you can browse the internet for that, but their position on so many pertinent issues of our day, are at its core, biblical, bold, and just beautiful. Thanks to you Canon Press. Oh yes, about the app - great format, and easy to use. Keep going, guys.
  • Knowing I’ll have truth just an app away Nov 19, 2020

I have been on a canon press kick this year more than any other year. And knowing we live in a time where we may not always be privy to the outspoken truth of fellow believers I thought it was a wise idea to go ahead and purchase the app to make sure I would have access to all audio books, lectures, and conferences to listen to by my favorite people. Highly recommend this app!

  • Great content, but needs a few features Dec 12, 2020

    By JTB_5
There are plenty of things to love about the Canon App. It has a load of good content, is well organized and pleasing to search, and offers something for everyone. My only criticism thus far is that the app does not save one’s place in an audiobook and even loses that place while the app is open but not actively playing the audiobook.

The audio player needs to be improved to reach the ease and intuitive features of audible, but the quantity and the quality of the content makes the monthly subscription worth it even if the tech side of things is still lacking. I am hopeful they will continue to improve the app over time.

I have the annual subscription and the content is well worth it. I put in my ear buds at work and listen to it for at least four hours a night, have done so for three months now and have barely scratched the surface. Bluetooth controls are still not operating and I have to start/ stop with the phone. Big question is: Is anyone at Canon Press updating the Roku App? The content in Roku is way less than the phone app, and things I listen to on the phone are not even found on the search app in Roku. I don't even see any audio books in the Roku app. So I know there are growing pains, but Roku is one I'd like to use more at home.
  • Family options Dec 21, 2020

    By Me hashtag
I’m loving the app. Two problems I’ve found 1) when listening to books the app has a hard time remembering where you were when you last listened. My books keep starting back at the beginning. Which leads to me spending several minutes trying to find where I was. 2) no family sharing options. My husband and I both want to listen on our phones, but can’t pay for two subscriptions. I wish there was a way to share the subscription with your immediate family members so that we dont have to pay for two separate accounts. Edit: third problem I found: why do I have to log in every time I close the app?? Very frustrating. And losing my place in the audio book every time has made me cancel my subscription. Which really stinks because I love the content. If these things get fixed I’ll re-subscribe.
  • Great stuff needs more speed options Dec 3, 2020

    By J. Josiah
All the great stuff from Wilson and Co. Since their stuff isn’t included in Audible premium, best to get it here! Developers, please please please add some more speed options for playback. 1x is too slow, 1.5 is too fast. 1.1,1.2,1.25,1.3 would all be so great to help cover more ground without taking away from the material. I’ll update to 5 stars as soon as we get some speed options. Definitely worth the price here folks! Thanks!

Great content, reasonably priced. App is a little buggy at times, so four stars for now, but I'm confident that that will improve with time. It's been a huge blessing to be able to listen to so many great audio books and podcasts while I work (Stories Are Soul Food is my current favorite podcast). Thanks for all you do, Canon Press! Soli Deo Gloria!

The content is a Godsend. My pullback is mostly with having to use internet when I've downloaded content already and expressly for offline use to avoid data usage. The app stops reading the books I'm listening to a moment later after I cutoff mobile data.

I'd give it 4.5 if I could. I was experiencing the glitches like others explained as well. I love the content but might want to make it more easy to navigate. Like when I am listening to an audio series, it doesn't always continue in the series (is it supposed to?) and I have to navigate back to that series and find it, which is confusing sometimes based on categories. Also because the titles listed don't always seem to match the visual picture name.

This app has been a huge blessing for me, and I so want to give it five stars; however, even with the most recent app version, I'm still experiencing the problem of the app not saving my spot when I'm listening to either an audio book or a podcast. As others have said, I'll gladly change the rating to 5 stars once it's fixed

  • Superb content... lacking in standard features Mar 3, 2021

    By lghancock374
Content is amazing. But accessing that content is sub standard. Navigating to resources is clunky, and the “save progress” feature is decent but not totally dialed in. I have been using app since it was released and, while there was improvement with the save progress feature, I still find myself losing several minutes here or there. Hoping Canon continues to develop this app’s infrastructure/UX. I would prioritize this development over loading new content. Also, it would be tremendously helpful for the books to be navigable by chapter.

Disappointed with the app. Great content, but they charged me for a couple months for a subscription that I didn't want. The app store subscription didn't syc with my subscription that I cancelled in the app. Great content, but it just crashes while I'm listening, and then I have to try to find my place in the book when the app starts working again. I like listening to the blogmablog and plodcast on my Google podcasts app.
  • Content is great, can’t wait for the next update. Apr 5, 2021

The organization and overall user experience is great but it’s missing some key features. Download doesn’t actually work so you can’t replay when in airplane mode. It also doesn’t show you what you’ve bookmarked so if you don’t keep up with your reading/listening make a list somewhere else to refer back to.

Love the content and the idea of being able to listen to such great books on audio. But, as others have mentioned, the fact that it never keeps my place and reverts back to the last place I started is really getting on my nerves. It does it every time I turn on my phone from sleep mode. Not knowing what time stamp I left off I have to painstakingly find my place with the clumsy time bar feature. It'd be nice if it broke things up by chapters. Can't wait to give this app 5⭐ once bugs are fixed.
  • Needs a save feature. Nov 25, 2020

    By Reformed Stoic
The app needs to have a save feature on videos and audiobooks. If I exit out of the app my spot isn’t saved in what I was previously listening to. Very hard to listen to books that are 4+ hours if my spot isn’t saved. At the very least, having the option to click on specific chapters would also be helpful.
