  • Great redesign, still want integrated weather Jul 12, 2019

    By CatAtomic8
High quality local and national journalism. The recent design update is much cleaner, attractive and user friendly. Only dropping one star because the app still does not have an integrated weather forecast/radar. When you want to see weather you have to view the desktop site or use a mobile browser. App includes weather related news but not forecasts. Otherwise, this is an excellent news app and my primary source of news. Subscription for unlimited digital access is very reasonable and in the current climate of disinformation, supporting real journalism is tantamount to supporting democratic institutions.

This is a convenient way to read the daily newspaper as well as to get recent, breaking news. The only negative aspects are, even as a subscriber you see some ads, and sometimes your article refreshes while you're in the middle of reading. Otherwise, its like having today's paper in your palm as well as part of tomorrow's.

I count on the app working, I pay for an all digital and print subscription. For those days when my paper doesn’t arrive on time I try and use the app. The app is a total failure. Pages missing or out of order, either in landscape mode or full page mode. Please fix it. It’s been broken for over a year.

My original sun account was through google. But the app won’t let me log in through google. When I try to log in with my email it tells me the account already exists through google and to press the google button to log in, but there is no google button to press. There are only buttons for Facebook and twitter. Not sure how to fix this.

Baltimore Sun App ver 5.5 on iOS devices - When using the app to read the paper in the full page view I cannot scroll down to the bottom of the page. This feature works when viewing in a web browser (I.e. Internet Explorer) but not in the app. Overall the app functions well.

I enjoy reading the sun through this app. Previous older version was terrible but this new redo is great. Easy to read articles, easy to stay logged in. The Sun is great journalism that I’m proud to support!

One of the most important tasks for every resident of the City is to stay informed. The Sun keeps citizens informed and holds our corrupt politicians to task. The Sun’s writers are talented and thorough and survive on your subscriptions.

I take my subscription through iTunes, and it seems that I am limited to reading it on my phone. Is there a reason that I cannot read it on my iPad?

When you want to share an article it no longer provides the URL but instead puts the string "null" in its place. This makes sharing useless. This feature use to work.

Although I am told otherwise I find it hard to believe Sun staff read the app version. Large pictures make it take a long time to navigate. The NYT allows me at a glance to see all the important articles if the day and the decide which to read. Articles are repeated as you scroll. Why are sports considered top stories when there is a sports section? Why are there articles in the middle of the obituary section. I could go on and on. I have been told that fixes are in the works but I am believing this less and less. I am a long time user of the app who is seriously considering cancelling.

I'm a fan of the Sun, but this app just seems plain broken to me. Stuff like the News section keep acting like something went wrong, & stuff like the F.A.Q. makes me wonder whether it recognizes that I paid for a subscription. I can still read the articles fine, but the fact I can't even check the obituaries is bad. They really ought to fix whatever is going on.

It is very frustrating that the app is not accessible to the blind. I pay each month hoping they will fix it, but no such luck. Sad with so many of us who are blind in the city and the home of NFB. It does not es port well into the Android News app, but they put up a paywall that drives you to the app.

I have tried to make this app provide "Silent" notifications only, but my phone still vibrates. I also tried not having any notifications from this app at all (through Android), but they still pop up. This is the only app I have this issue with. If there's no resolution on this, I'll have to delete the app to prevent distractions.

Hands down the worst digital news app. Full of bugs and ads. Purchased a digital subscription it never worked customer support is terrible. All I wanted to do was support my local journalism but such a poor experience it can die in darkness. I will take my money elsewhere to other news providers.

The only real complaint I have with the app is the Evening Edition 'evening paper' is not available. I'm enrolled to receive the email everyday when the evening edition is released which is around 4 p.m. but the only way to view it is through my browser.

I like this app. It's simple and works, news update notifications work better than with the NYT app. Clicking on links within the app does break occasionally though.

The app uses a ridiculous amount of battery when just running in the background. For 1 minute in the foreground and 14 hours in the background, it accounted for 28% of my battery usage.

  • So much respect for the Sun but... Apr 18, 2021

    By BMoreFrank
The Baltimore Sun is a vital institution for the city and the region, but this app is atrocious. Why does it ask me endlessly to log in and redirect, but only for some stories? Why in 2021 am I not able to do so with Touch/FaceID? Why is it full of the absolute lowest quality garbage advertising? The Sun deserves so much better than this.
  • AWFUL Aug 18, 2020

    By JCF1955
This app could very well be the worst app in app history. Every time they come out with a bug fix something else goes wrong. Pages out of order, constant locking up, blurred pages, split pages and so on. It’s bad enough reading the Baltimore Sun in general, but the constant failure of the app makes it intolerable.
