i have used this app for a few years and this is the first time ever it was wrong. I even messaged them on Facebook to tell them it was incorrect but they assured me it was up to date with the new tax reform. I guess they got enough complaints and fixed it within the last 2 weeks but it's still off. you also have to close the app and reopen it to get the correct refund amount otherwise it's the wrong amount until then. new updated number was close to my refund amount but off by 600 dollars.

  • by Patricia Torres

I have always used this app to calculate my tax return. This year the app is way off to the refund I am going to get. Like another reviewer said by $2000. maybe need to recheck calculations and update. Please. I like using this app and recommend it to everyone because it has always been so accurate.

  • by Robert Rivera

usually this app is almost exact with its estimations but this year when i put my info in it gives me an estimate and when i close and reopen the app the estimate is increased by $4000 i seen other reviews and answers indicate the 10.1 version is available but the app doesnt have an update. the last update was november 2018

  • by Stacey Hayner

Edit: Since the newest update, it will give the correct refund amount, HOWEVER- you have to enter all information, it will give an amount that is roughly $2,000 less than it should be. You then close the app and reopen it, and it shows correct amount. Have used this app for a few years, and has always been accurate. This year, however, it said I would be getting back $9,192. When i actually went to file my taxes, i was told i will only be getting $6,927. That is an inaccuracy of $2,265!

  • by Christina Koscielski

I have much enjoyed this app over the past few years. It has always given a pretty close to accurate estimate.. usually with in a couple hunderd dollars either way. this year it was off by over $2000 .

  • by Holly Bayus

I have had the taxcaster for the past 5 years and it has always been very accurate. This year that is not the case. This years taxcaster is very inaccurate...around $2,500 off. I'm very disappointed. I try to monitor my taxes closely to make sure I am having enough deducted and such so the big discrepancy this year was a shocker.

  • by Chasity Dill

Refund estimate was wayyy off. First it showed a really high number I knew couldn't be right, but hoped. Then when I went back in, it was lowered. I thought, ok. not bad! went and filed and it was still off 2k. disappointing. Normally its pretty accurate. I will Re-Rate next year at tax time.

  • by Shane S

horrible app for this years tax! (2018 tax payable 2019) app gave me a number that has alwayd been correct every year so I had planned around that number. I fill out my taxes today and realise its $2000 off! THATS NOT A SMALL NUMBER AND NOT OK! I WONT BE USING TT AT ALL EVER AGAIN TO FILE!

  • Not accurate at all!

    by victoria ace 1981

TaxCaster has shown my estimated refund to be over $12,000 since earlier this year. I did it again today to double check. However when I used turbo tax to actually file, using the exact same numbers, my refund is only $4,500. That’s a ridiculous difference and I am so disappointed because I thought I was getting $12,000 this year. Not happy with this app.

  • by Leanne Doyle

this year the app calculated wrong my refund was $2500 less than it calculated and i did my taxes through turbo tax. tis the first year this has happened i have been using tax caster for 4 years. the past 3 years my refund was exactly what they calculated. and it calculated everyone i know that calculated them also is getting back less than what ot said.

  • by Ashley Rhodes

way off! said 3000 more than actually receiving deffinately need to fix this cause this is going hurt people trying to plan out their bills with the government shutdown people are relying on accurate results!

  • by Eaze Money

I use this app every year & it is always 100% correct. However this year, I was told a lower amount then what this app told me & i was so disappointed to find out it was over 2,000 less that was owed to me...

  • Not the same?

    by scubadude1105

I've used this app every year for my taxes. This year I have a lot less options to utilize when it comes to deductions and what not. I have never owed taxes in nearly 20 years and usually get a few grand back every year. This year it said I owe? How is that possible when very little has changed?

  • by Sarah Shaver

trash app. doesnt work. want turbo tax back. the original that is no longer compatible with any of my devices.

  • by Amy Pilgrim

You guys need to fix this. You're still adding the personal exemption for children. It's going to throw alot of people off when planning for their taxes in 2019.

  • Extremely inaccurate!

    by kyemtp85

TaxCaster said I would be getting a certain amount back on my federal taxes. I got LESS THAN HALF of what they estimated! I was shocked to see my actual return when I was expecting what TaxCaster estimated, because all the reviews I have seen were positive and said they were "right on the money". They were WAY off on what my return was!

  • Not realistic - needs improvements

    by prescious18g

I believe this does not accurately reflect real life scenarios. Trying to find ways to minimize my taxes, needing to see how moving money in particular ways and using certain accounts is essential. List out specific types of accounts, and expenditures. Create an scenario based option for comparisons. Ability to connect to mint and to prompt questioning for transactions. Was this a medical expense? I see you recent purchased gas, did you travel today for work? You sold some investments, are you purchasing another with the funds? Etc.

  • Very misleading

    by dadof7angels

I used this tax estimator and filling married filling jointly with 7 dependents and my refund is $15,295. However when I input the same info when I try to file that I enter in this app, the amount drops to $6,677. Very disappointing this app is misleading. Nobody can seem to give me a straight answer as to why either.

  • App is Inaccurate

    by PizzaChef91614

Pretty disappointed this year, I used this to get an estimate on my refund.. and then used turbo tax to file my taxes and I’m getting over 2k less than what this app estimated.. I don’t expect it to be 100% accurate but over a 2 grand difference from their estimate to them doing my taxes is absurd

  • Ok if you are not 1099

    by Kucusa

It works great if you are not paid by 1099. As soon as you enter the amount of your 1099 the app goes black and kicks you off. Needs to be fixed to work with other incomes.

  • Version 9.1

    by Pearvalley1

9.1 fixed crashing issue when adding income. Additional standard deductions for two married persons over 65 filling jointly is not adding up to 15,200 Standard Deduction. . Seems to only add one.

  • There is an error in this app

    by Chia N. Moua

This app does calculate EIC with dependents that are 16 or younger. But when you change the dependent(s) to between 17-24, there is calculation of EIC. This issue with the app has been around for 3 years now. I wish turbotax will fix this problem.

  • Please fix!!!

    by Hnlysxyagl08

I’ve used this app for the last 2 years and loved it! I just updated it tonight and every time I get to the part to enter in my income it crashes!!!! I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled twice. Please fix ASAP!!!

  • Can’t Import Data from Last Year

    by Wymanator

I was hoping TurboTax could help me predict my tax obligation for 2018 based upon my (already filed with TurboTax) 2017 return. Not only does this app require me to re-enter all my info, it is oriented towards very simple returns.

  • Only for very simple taxes

    by mrAssman

Wasn't even close to accurate for me.. I guess it probably works well for people who have only basic tax filings.

  • Buggy text entry

    by alterwalter84

Won’t let me type all numbers. Any field is limited to only 1 character, so just “2” for “200”. First, deleted and reinstalled, but the problem persists. Hope it’s an isolated incident.

  • No longer useable

    by rvtrvlr1

This update is a mess. Things not logically located, entries that are negative numbers don’t always stay negative. Some items are ignored when doing the calculations. Do not trust this app for anything but a “in the ballpark” guess.

  • WAY off for new tax law

    by Hannah554321097

Used this to estimate my taxes and had a huge refund. Went to use Turbo Tax and real refund was 1/3 of estimate. Not updated properly for new tax law!

  • Refund Calculation Can Be Misleading

    by PBCPA

I am a tax professional who has been using Turbotax since 1987. Great product. But... a client just came in expecting a $3,000 refund. She expected this amount because she used the Turbotax Refund Estimator. She had tuition expense from a masters degree program. The Turbotax refund calculator does not ask what type of education credit applies. It automatically calculated the American Opportunity credit which is a much higher credit than the Lifetime Learning Credit. My client was extremely disappointed when her refund turned to $1,200 when I prepared her taxes. Intuit, please fix this! MB CPA, CFE, CGFA

  • Not accurate

    by Rddghvbk

My kid turned 17 in November 2018. This app still shows a large refund as if I get the CTC for her, which is incorrect. It seems like the app thinks her being a full-time student aged 17-24 qualifies me for CTC, which is incorrect.

  • No where near accurate

    by Twinxesmom

2 different people with two different tax situations both off by over 2k

  • Inaccurate projection

    by itscomplicated

I used my actual information and it projected a bigger refund that the one I finally received. Way off for a couple of thousands of dollars. Not nice at all!

  • It’s about over 2,000 dollars off

    by Kgavin756

My friend told me about this app. It call me allll excited about my tax return. I do my tax return and it’s over 2,000 less than this app predicted.

  • Totally wrong

Have used for many years and it’s been pretty right on this year it’s $3,000 off. Very upsetting.

  • Garbage App

    by irritated126511

The difference between what this junk app says I will get on my return and what turbo tax says is off by SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS. How incredibly ridiculous. Nice forecast tax caster

    by Debbiewebbie

Im a taxpro and wanted a quick app to estimate refunds. My estimate refund was off by $2300!!! HoH, 3 dependents under 16, 1099MISC $16000. My Drake software says $6025 while TaxCaster $8316? Someone is wrong and it’s not Drake!!

  • Doesn’t work on IPad

    by rotortee

The App used to work great on IPad but now does not. When trying to input information in, the operable window disappears up the page. So disappointing, I really used to like this app.

  • Doesn't display correctly on iPhone SE

    by Guitargeek6298

I loved this app in years past, but the recent update doesn't display properly on my SE, to a point that renders it nonfunctional. Very disappointing.

  • 2018 rates seem wrong

    by baltimore-brett

I put in all my estimated taxes and I’m pretty sure the program is just plain wrong. I seems to handle basic income, has old rates for the 2018 estimation and does not recognize lower rates for capital gains

  • Traditional IRA phaseout needs updated for 2017

    by fuzzzymath

Traditional IRA phaseout for married filing jointly with employer coverage needs to be updated from $98-118K (2016) to $99-119K (2017). Would also be helpful if max deduction was displayed when entering IRA contribution.
