  • When it works, it works good. Dec 29, 2020

Lots of talk about being able to block calls but the BLOCK feature seems to not work occasionally. You can select BLOCK on a number and the block button will light up; however, when you return to the number in the ACTIVITY list, the number you just blocked is unblocked again. Therefore, the 4-star rating I am giving applies to the app when it is working properly. This situation has happened several times over the period year-long period I’ve used the app so the failure is temporary. When the failure situation is happening - like it is at the time of this writing - this app deserves maybe 2 stars. The reason I’ll give it two stars is because it still blocks known or suspected scammer numbers that are preemptively blocked by the app. If the app already knows them, they get blocked...but those only amount to about 20 percent of the scammer calls I receive.

Pretty good, I'd say 95% accurate. After a year of accurately blocking scam calls only, it blocked a call from a number that I had recently added to my contacts. No weird area code or anything. (Just because a number is in your contacts doesn't mean Scam Shield won't block it.) Just make sure to regularly check the Scam Shield call log in case it does this to you.

Great start for giving consumers control over there phone calls however i think you can do even more. I would like to have this expanded to text messages as well. Also I would like to have it where the system can identify where the call originated from or where the call is regastered to like where the person lives. Also add a report option to report that the a call was categorized incorrectly or the caller id info is wrong. This way theses issues are fixed and new calls made by that phone number would show up correctly to other users. Also add a option to record phone calls for calls that come in that are not on my contacts list. This way if a call is spam legal authorities would have something to use agenst thesss people to put a stop to unwanted calls. Needs to be expanded to include text messages as well

Services aside since I’m rating the app here, great functionality, appearance, and is very convenient for those that don’t have a desktop to make changes on the site or for those that don’t want to/don't have the time to change settings in-store. If you have T-Mobile as a service provider, I would also highly recommend trying out the other associated apps. Edit: Have only been with T-Mobile for about 4-5 months, using the app since I signed up with them, and I have come across no problems whatsoever.

Unable to use features and no response from T-Mobile. Toggle greyed out for option to send categories to voicemail, also cannot manually add a number to be blocked. Numbers already marked as spam still ring through. They do not verify a number is legitimate, I still get at least a dozen calls a week from numbers “not in service “. The number of spam calls claimed to have been blocked doesn’t change. The procedure to report a call is cumbersome, and still let’s call ring through. I am also getting spam calls on my “proxy “ line, and calls that seem to be forwarded from my voice line. CORRECTION: I did get a response from T-Mobile, which said they were marking it “resolved”, although nothing was done. Manager was supposed to callback March 19, luckily I am not holding my breath

This is a good app , but you need to address the following: 1) There are way too many numbers with no information. There must be a way to deal with these numbers that have no info.. 2) I don't seem to be able to block SMS messages sent from an email address. This needs to be added.

I love this app it stops the scam calls as soon as the 1st ring. And it keeps a list of all those numbers. They have a lot of options to go for..but u have to pay for it. I would but i cant its only $4. a month for the other features. The blocking spam is free. I love it cause i look later and see about 10 blocked spam calls per day

I like the scam shield but I had to disable it for a while. Wife is in hospital And was afraid some of their calls might be blocked because they use different numbers and the nurses some times use their private phones which would be blocked. I will activate it again when wife gets to come back home. Wife is back home from hospital started the shield again for trying the system out some more.

Had to delete app as it no longer worked. It required that my WiFi be turned off and have at least 2 bars. That doesn’t work well when you don’t have sufficient coverage/service (usually 1 bar both at home and work which are 45 miles apart) and depend on a wifi connection to another internet provider to be able to use your phone. I’ve reached out several times inquiring on when T-Mobile was going to improve their service strength was keep getting told it has been upgraded and should see considerable improvement by month end. That was in June 2019, November 2019, and last was July 2020, I gave up since it appears to have been false information.

About a year ago my number got sold to some companies that would call me 3-6 times a day. I just put up with sending them to voicemail because I didn’t want to have to change my number. I switched to T-mobile, got premium Scam Blocker and this was one of the first things I set up. It took 2 days for it to learn which calls to block and it’s been wonderful. The peace of not getting woken up at 7 am on my day off due to a scam call, and not having random numbers blowing up my phone is worth a lot more than I thought.

Pretty start screen. But unable to get past it. Wifi not on, when it is. 2 bars service, but thats typical. Oh, maybe because I'm "Sprint....now a part of T-Mobile" (said sarcastically). T-mobile LOVES Sprint's network. Same isn't true for the Sprint customers. (2 years, and still not a part of T-mobile)

I rarely got any spam calls before and as soon as T-Mobile secretly installed this app I get more than I ever did before. 7 or more per day. Open this app up and they went you to give them money to stop unwanted calls. The scammers have figured out if they call 3 times the app will allow the call to go through.

I was giving Robo Calls a trial run, then switched to T-Mobile shield to find option are vague, goes to my Voicemail to only get my name and they leave a message which is justas bad. Cost for premium should be free for T-Mobile customers honestly, and I’m confident enough to use as a basic. All honesty Robo Call app is awesome at voicemail and calls are answered as a variety assortment messages to choose from and the joke is on the spammers. At the same time you get all notices of who calling and from where, if not in your contacts it doesn’t get through! Important calls just add to contacts, check out trial run and go from there. T-Mobile can rock the same and give free for T-Mobile customers you would get 100% support. Back to Robo calls and for one year it’s a little over $20 bucks too. A bargain for all you get. Will keep a look out for further updates until then thanks for trying T-Mobile step it up a bunch, I’m just saying.

App does not work it will not go through the setup process I have a Samsung galaxy s7 edge would love to get a new phone but sprint stop giving them away with a service contract a long time ago and not paying over $1000.000 for a new one when this one works perfectly fine that being said this app will not go through the setup even everything it lists have been done. Had to Uninstall as it is useless to me.

Terrible. I have to block scam calls and unknown callers. This catches practically nothing. If robocall places a fake name, it bypasses this poor and inadequate shield. Report a caller is a joke saying an identity breach. Want to direct me to their ID protection people. Want $4 to auto send to vm, my thumb does this for free. Still have to delete the voice mails. This service is a scam. The current call is about Apple. Harasses my phone w/ calls every 5 to 60 min. I've never had Apple products.

I reported an issue few weeks ago, had not heard from their support team. First it ask for access to your contact list to then block people that are on there, even on favorites. Also for some reason it does not filter all calls, or at least not all calls are present our call list - I’m unable to report spam if the call is not in the incoming call list (I’m using the free version). I recently moved from AT&T and I never had any issue with this two things. On top of this I’m getting calls from spammers, more than ever, something that did not happened with AT&T. Sorry to compare but the difference is huge. Also, been unable to block call I’m the free version it makes this app useless for me, since I’m unable to block spammers that call me multiple times per week and this app failed to recognize as spam. In short: at least the free version is useless. I hope that support can respond my emails.... eventually

Useless app. I continue to get blocked numbers calling me and texting me all day everyday with today's total 225 in 30 days! I also had paid the monthly fee but it did NOT make a difference. Don't waste your money. The paid and the free version are both Useless!. If I could rate it a minus 10, I would.

I have Call Control. It's cheaper and it allows me to set for Disconnect, as well as send to voice mail. Call Control also let's you block messages. I also get a number of free lookups each month. Why should I use Scam Shield? No way to clear call log like Call Control has. Scam Shield still let's scam calls through. Call Control Premium is only $29.99 a year. Scam Shield Premium is $48 a year. Big difference. I'll stick with Call Control.

Love the app, but Im mad that it now cost for the features I had that were included on the call screener app with sprint. Once I switched my sim card in store, I no longer have to the other app. What was once free on the sprint app and network now cost $4 a month on the tmobile network. So disappointing, didn’t this conglomerate of a company make enough money from the merger of the two cell companies and provide better service and have happier customers. Update: Thanks for the prompt response, however your response is untrue in the facts. You can’t use any of those options you mentioned without first having to subscribe to the “premium“ service. Which those same options were free to use with the “Call Screener” app on the sprint network. Had I known this I would’ve never switched out my sim card.

This is what you call working? Another carrier’s free app has you beat. The only free feature is the “known” scam block based on if the same number calls repeatedly. Did the app actually upload my contact list? I have no idea of knowing. Nowhere in the help or settings does it say these services are only available to customers who pay an additional fee. All options are blocked and inaccessible. In fact the app needed to be removed mid attempt to add names to the allow list and reinstalled for them to show up. I cannot add more than four names to the allow list. I cannot block anyone who calls before or after they call. Emailed support and received no reply. With a competitor half of my calls were blocked as I could select to only allow callers in my phone contact list.

GREAT APP! But... Sometimes it blocks wanted calls from friends. Now it does say this in the app itself, and I understand that no application intended to block scam calls is going to be perfect. Hopefully the system will get better over time. That being said, it does exactly what it's supposed to do, and I really like not having to deal with scam calls every time I answer the phone. :)

40 scam calls blocked in the last 30 days. Yes please and thank you. My time is valuable to me and getting distracted by random phone calls is the worst. It’s one thing if it’s a political survey as I do not mind those. Makes my phone usable and easy to live with. So far I have not had an issue with people that need to get ahold of me can always get through without issue. Thank you T-Mobile and the company behind this software technology. Keep it up and keep improving!

I always figured the spam people create companies to block their own calls so they can get free money but this actually eliminated 90% of the spam and scams I got. Sadly with my work I had to stop using this since I work at a call center, and I noticed a HUGE difference. I used to get at least 5-10 spam calls a day and it only became one or two. However once I had to stop using this app the calls came piling in again. Definitely works!

  • Good service bad app Jun 9, 2019

    By Amrish
The nameID service by itself works great. It identifies spam calls at the network level and blocks them. If you choose Premium service you also get to select various options like blocking nuisance calls, blocking telemarketing calls etc. however, as I previously said, Service works at the network level. The app by itself does nothing. It doesn’t use the Apple call kit and doesn't integrate with the stock iPhone dialer. But I must admit that it's not an issue. You still see the caller name and calls get blocked or sent to voicemail directly. But they could have just integrated the nameID option in the mail TMobile app and not have needed the nameID app at all.
  • Does block spam, but T-Mobile charges for some features Oct 14, 2020

Update: okay, three stars. It is automatically blocking some spam calls, but that’s just it, I can’t manually block those spam calls (that do get through) from the Activity tab - it is grayed out. Only Magenta Plus customers get these features at no additional charge? It’s a shame this is advertised as a real call blocking app, but the more useful features cost Essential and Magenta customers $4/month, per line. It’s the carriers responsibility to control these calls. Instead they want to charge the customer more, so you can actually use the service you pay for.

I get a lot of local spamming calls and this app didn’t do much to stop or block them. I just had another one come through and I see it listed 6 times in the ID App - all with the same date and time stamp and it says “local spam” - so why did it get through if it classified it as spam?! And why does it show 6 entries at 8:11 pm when they are all the same call! And why does T-Mobile want more money to give me more features when I already pay them over 200 bucks a month for 4 lines .... come on T-Mobile , this shouldn’t be free to only those on some “certain plan” or those willing to pay an extra 4 bucks a line when I’ve been with you well over 10 years and am already paying you for quality phone service!

I’m a T-Mobile customer and turned on my Scam Blocker. At first it seemed to be doing well, blocking a bunch of calls. Over the past month, it seems to have gotten a lot less effective. I’m getting hit with daily scam robocalls from various numbers with the same infamous “call us back to discuss this urgent situation or we will be forced to take legal action against you” scam. No warning from the service that it might be a scam caller either. I block the offending number and the next day, I get the same robocall from a different number calling me (I never pick it up, always letting it go to voicemail). Right now, I’d have to say I’ve been more satisfied with Hiya than with Scam Shield. Obviously nothing is 100% effective, but Scam Shield seems to be falling behind.

Right now I don't like it too much. I preferred the one Sprint had because it would identify numbers calling and texting me that wasn't programmed. Now with T-mobile it identify who's calling but not who's texting. Please get it to identify both text and calls of numbers

You know how it feels when an airline wants to charge you extra for bringing a carry on bag? That's T-Mobile Scam Shield in a nutshell. You'll leave feeling like they're trying to suck extra money out of your pocket for "premium features" that SHOULD already be provided with the entry price -- being a T-Mobile subscriber. The app works fine (meaning OK, but nothing special). Unfortunately, nearly every "Premium" feature should be free for every T-Mobile subscriber. I mean seriously-- T-Mobile thinks we should have to pay to block a range of phone numbers that scammers commonly use? Me and every other customer who uses (and pays for) their network? While I don't agree that T-Mobile customers should have to pay for something like voicemail-to-text functionality, I can at least see how that's an added/ bonus feature. A phone company FINALLY filtering spam calls IS NOT. If you want to pay several dollars/month for a spam filter then do yourself a favor and go with an app that's proven and effective -- like Nomorobo or RoboKiller. Those apps are actually proven to work and won't leave you feeling like your cellular carrier is trying to fleece you out of a few extra dollars for something they should already be doing for their customers.

I have encountered a number of sophisticated hacks in the last three years. Was hoping this would give me an extra edge. However, within 24 hours of downloading it, per Customer Support’s suggestion, started getting spam calls coming in within minutes of me receiving personal incoming calls. If I block the call on my personal device, not the app, another call comes in with a different number, and again, one that is not identified as spam. The pattern is unquestionable (three days into it) and the spam calls are not getting flagged as a reported or identified spam call. Upon searching the numbers for reverse look up, it failed to show anything for them. Got more on the browser than the app. As a result of this experience, there are some security concerns I now have. Especially given that the spam blocking worked better before downloading the app, than now with the app sitting on my device, with greater access to info in the device than the previous service.

When it works, I guess it's okay. But it keeps turning itself off. I usually find this out when I get telemarketer call. I then check the application and yep sure enough it is turned off. And certainly I would not consider upgrading to the premium version when the basic version doesn't even seem to work consistently. No idea why keeps turning itself off.

One of the main reasons I switched to Tmobile was for the free spam blocking they promised but it much as the spam calls themselves is a scam doesn't work and they say you must upgrade and pay another four dollars a month for one that is supposed to work I don't like being scammed and as soon as my phones are paid off from other scam I feel they tricked me into I will leave Tmobile for 2nd time and guarantee I will never be tempted to give them a third try.
