  • VERY effective. Needs tweaking/enhancements Sep 8, 2020

    By BeingTooPatient
The overall “Scam Block” is generally all-or-nothing. I’d prefer to choose what to do with ALL “blocked” calls I.E. “send to voicemail” - like the separate category manager. With Scam Block ON, all you get is “Activity “ and the phone # that was blocked. Ok, but it’s too heavy-handed for me ATM. (TMI, I’m job hunting & 1 known caller showed up as likely scam/telemarketing in another like app - I can’t risk such a call being outright *blocked*, at a minimum need to send to voicemail). Looking up callerID: no way to even copy/paste the number. A single button would be better. The few I’ve manually looked up had no information). One I just called back: it was Theresa, obviously a private number & should likely have a callerID. Ability to “Favorites”, “Block”, and “ Send to VM” is good but a little tedious to implement if not in your contacts or recents. Texts do not appear to choose from. If you START that process with any contact or recent open, it immediately adds it to the action you choose- a bit unexpected but I can see how they’re trying to make that easy.

Great start for giving consumers control over there phone calls however i think you can do even more. I would like to have this expanded to text messages as well. Also I would like to have it where the system can identify where the call originated from or where the call is regastered to like where the person lives. Also add a report option to report that the a call was categorized incorrectly or the caller id info is wrong. This way theses issues are fixed and new calls made by that phone number would show up correctly to other users. Also add a option to record phone calls for calls that come in that are not on my contacts list. This way if a call is spam legal authorities would have something to use agenst thesss people to put a stop to unwanted calls. Needs to be expanded to include text messages as well

About a year ago my number got sold to some companies that would call me 3-6 times a day. I just put up with sending them to voicemail because I didn’t want to have to change my number. I switched to T-mobile, got premium Scam Blocker and this was one of the first things I set up. It took 2 days for it to learn which calls to block and it’s been wonderful. The peace of not getting woken up at 7 am on my day off due to a scam call, and not having random numbers blowing up my phone is worth a lot more than I thought.

The app has bugs in it. Sometimes it blocks things that shouldn’t be blocked, and while it says it provides the user with unlimited reverse number lookup, there is no option to do so. It would be more accurate to say that it identifies unknown numbers, using some kind of reverse directory in an automated fashion. But it does not work all the time, and many, if not a majority, of the blocked/restricted calls still have no caller ID. It has blocked calls from people in my contacts that I never set to have been blocked, prevents me from getting important texts from my pharmacy, and calls from companies I do business with. While a great in principle, too much is automated, with not enough options for the user to customize their own settings

Had to delete app as it no longer worked. It required that my WiFi be turned off and have at least 2 bars. That doesn’t work well when you don’t have sufficient coverage/service (usually 1 bar both at home and work which are 45 miles apart) and depend on a wifi connection to another internet provider to be able to use your phone. I’ve reached out several times inquiring on when T-Mobile was going to improve their service strength was keep getting told it has been upgraded and should see considerable improvement by month end. That was in June 2019, November 2019, and last was July 2020, I gave up since it appears to have been false information.

It would be better if it can also allow to search up for numbers for free, I like this app as there are literally no notifications when u get call instead it shows who is calling me(just like I have saved the number). However like truecaller it should allow to lookup numbers for free. The scam calls are not getting blocked, I still get unwanted spam calls. Also I cannot manually block as it wants to charge me for that. Should be free for all T-mobile customers.

It work quite well for a couple weeks. Then all of a sudden the blocked calls started to come through. Apparently, every button I press in the app takes me to an advertisement wanting me to upgrade to a 4.99 a month premium service. What a waste. This should just come with the T-Mobile service. But nooooo! Just another way of nickel and dime'n your account!!!

Worthless. It does nothing about all the scam messages and I am not paying any money for an app that does not offer a free premium trial. I get over 25 scam texts a day associated with scam phone numbers that are not detected by this app. How hard is it to send every call to voicemail that is not in your contact list and block the texts. Samsung do something please. Tmobile can't or won't. It should be free.

It works great its been a long time since I got a spam call but it seems to block numbers that are in my contacts sometimes. Not sure how or why it detects my mom as spam but its sucks to keep missing her calls. Moving it to 1 star, I ended up losing out on a job I been looking for because I missed the call with the app thinking it's a scam call, I'm very upset.

For every "scam"/spam call this has blocked, it has allowed through 15 times as many. If you want better than the crappy free capabilities that T-Mobile has put out to pacify the FCC (which hopefully will require more than just window dressing soon, with a new President means a new chairman of the FCC), then you not only have to pay monthly, but monthly per line. For 4-5 lines, you need to pay $16-20/month, which is $192-$240. That's ridiculous for a problem created by phone companies like this

40 scam calls blocked in the last 30 days. Yes please and thank you. My time is valuable to me and getting distracted by random phone calls is the worst. It’s one thing if it’s a political survey as I do not mind those. Makes my phone usable and easy to live with. So far I have not had an issue with people that need to get ahold of me can always get through without issue. Thank you T-Mobile and the company behind this software technology. Keep it up and keep improving!

    By JKohlmaier
Somehow or another, my phone number ended up in the hands of a bunch of scam callers. Not the worst thing in the world, but pretty annoying. I ended up having to just block all calls from unknown numbers (10+ a day at times). With this app turned on, however, I haven't received a single scam call yet. Although it's UI leaves a bit to be desired, it's the most effective I've seen. This gets a rare 5 stars from me, and keep up the good work TMobile!

This app is a great gift. It kills many of the spam calls that I have been receiving and warns be about other suspicious callers. The only small thing that needs to be fixed is that when you Report a call there is no indication that the call has been reported.

If you take a few moments to learn about and use the features available with this app, they work extremely well. Because of the features available in the premium version of this app, the number of scam and telemarking calls to my phone number are down 100% and that makes me very happy because I had been receiving approximately 10-15 of these unwanted calls every single day. Great job T-Mobile. Please keep it up.

  • Works well; Spotty caller ID Aug 30, 2020

I used to use iOS’s feature to reject calls from numbers not in my contact list. That kept the daily spam calls away, but it meant I had to check my voicemail for legitimate calls from non-contacts. This app changes that. It blocks the spam calls while letting legitimate calls through. I tried it by disabling iOS’s feature to reject unknown numbers. In the last week I’ve gotten no spam calls. I’ve strongly urged my family to install this app. Why did I dock a star? The caller ID is iffy. A call from my mortgage lender came through as “Big Daddy Enesi.” Another call erroneously was tagged from “College Prk Lck.” Perhaps T-mobile isn’t responsible; it might rely on other companies’ directories. Overall, I’m impressed with T-mo’s commitment to reducing spam. They do a better job than Verizon in my experience (I have VZW for my work phone.) Keeps me a happy customer.

  • Pretty good at blocking calls Nov 20, 2018

    By Soulman DC
In my experience, T Mobile seems to be better at blocking unwanted phone calls than Verizon or AT&T. They are also better at blocking calls than the NoMoRobo service. I would give T-Mobile and the app 5 stars if they could add one key feature: the ability to block calls that display as “Unknown” or “Unavailable”. The explanation they give for not including this is that a doctors office might be trying to reach me. My doctors do not block their numbers. Why can’t I decide who to block?

  • Good service bad app Jun 9, 2019

The nameID service by itself works great. It identifies spam calls at the network level and blocks them. If you choose Premium service you also get to select various options like blocking nuisance calls, blocking telemarketing calls etc. however, as I previously said, Service works at the network level. The app by itself does nothing. It doesn’t use the Apple call kit and doesn't integrate with the stock iPhone dialer. But I must admit that it's not an issue. You still see the caller name and calls get blocked or sent to voicemail directly. But they could have just integrated the nameID option in the mail TMobile app and not have needed the nameID app at all.

  • Does block spam, but T-Mobile charges for some features Oct 14, 2020

    By Cinimod1000
Update: okay, three stars. It is automatically blocking some spam calls, but that’s just it, I can’t manually block those spam calls (that do get through) from the Activity tab - it is grayed out. Only Magenta Plus customers get these features at no additional charge? It’s a shame this is advertised as a real call blocking app, but the more useful features cost Essential and Magenta customers $4/month, per line. It’s the carriers responsibility to control these calls. Instead they want to charge the customer more, so you can actually use the service you pay for.

Using paid version. Blocks more now than it did a few months ago so some improvement but several still get thru every day. Better than nothing but spam calls remain a problem. Never had it block a call I wanted so good job on that front. At this rate Elon musk will be building teslas on Mars before t-mobile gets spam blocking fixed.

I downloaded this app on both my wife’s iPhone and mine. I’ve noticed a receiving significantly decreased number of scam/unwanted calls on both iPhones. One recent call identified a person who is not in out contact list. There is one disturbing problem: It has as a favorite a phone number I have reported on: phone calls from what calls itself Microsoft Verify. Microsoft does not make cold calls. As such, this should be treated like a scam. I’ve just done a second report. I hope this takes effect.

Blocked all calls and sent to voicemail, none of which was spam Additional feedback: called technical support. They don't believe spam shield is causing issue. More likely is the 5G upgrade in my area. Calls don't reach my phone but my friends are able to leave voicemail. Only one 5G tower in my area. They opened ticket to investigate further.

  • Long time customer Sep 1, 2020

I have encountered a number of sophisticated hacks in the last three years. Was hoping this would give me an extra edge. However, within 24 hours of downloading it, per Customer Support’s suggestion, started getting spam calls coming in within minutes of me receiving personal incoming calls. If I block the call on my personal device, not the app, another call comes in with a different number, and again, one that is not identified as spam. The pattern is unquestionable (three days into it) and the spam calls are not getting flagged as a reported or identified spam call. Upon searching the numbers for reverse look up, it failed to show anything for them. Got more on the browser than the app. As a result of this experience, there are some security concerns I now have. Especially given that the spam blocking worked better before downloading the app, than now with the app sitting on my device, with greater access to info in the device than the previous service.

  • Privacy? How are my Contacts protected? Aug 30, 2020

    By neal_fan
Note that neither the word “privacy“ nor the word “contacts“ appear in the knowledge base about Scam Shield. T-Mobile does say, however, that Scam Shield settings are uploaded to T-Mobile‘s servers… does this include my entire contacts list if I give T-Mobile permission? How exactly does T-Mobile protect the privacy of my contacts? Does T-Mobile share my contacts with third parties or other vendors that it uses to provide the Scam Shield service? Where are the Terms and Conditions found where I can read them later? These are important questions and I could not find answers to them anywhere!

  • App is essentially useless without premium product Jul 28, 2020

    By damnitacceptmynickname
The scam service is already running behind the scenes and the app just shows you the calls it’s blocked. I don’t need the app in order to block calls, it’s already doing it. There is a feature in the app where you can set certain categories of calls to block, and this may be the best feature, but it’s not available without an additional paid service. Overall the app “appears” interesting and useful, but it really doesn’t actually offer any additional services or features without more money. So typical. I uninstalled immediately.

The fact that T-Mobile customers still have to pay to unlock the app is terrible. The app in locked mode barely functions, occasionally alerting you to a spam call. It does not learn, and you cannot mark calls as spam. Don't bother downloading unless you are willing to pay a monthly fee to unlock.
