Apr 3, 2019 good game, but app is weird. track laying very wonky - trying to get the tile to set will often rotate it, or vice versa. if you need to undo that last track you laid - well the undo button undoes all your tracks that turn rather than just the last one. looking up rules is painful. they haven't put rules clarifications on the app where they'd be needed, they've just done the lazy thing of scanning the boardgame manual. except it isn't even in the app - it's a separate download. map charges stingymore -
Crashes instantly - seems to be a temp issue
Nov 4, 2015 Game is unplayable. It attempts to download your initial map but gets an http404 error and then quits. Wherever they are storing their map is down. 1 star for crappy delivery and inability to play. It is my hope this is just temporary and will be resolved soon. Update. Next day, map downloaded in 3 seconds. No issues, no crashes. This app just had a very bad first day. Don't let the first day reviews scare you. I changed my rating from 1 star to four. It is now working great.more -
Several issues with Tutorial make it unplayable
Jul 8, 2019 I cannot progress in tutorial. I’ve now restarted it twice, but it requires me to perform an action that I cannot do. I also found a spelling error in the tutorial text. I want to like this game, but I still don’t know how to play because of the broken tutorial.more -
Aug 9, 2019 Was good. Now buggy. Website no longer exists. A.I. has delivered wrong color freight to city (red box to purple city). 'Track out of bounds' message doesn't go away. Locks up at start of A.I. turn after I go. I don't know if this game is still supported, I have my doubts. Too bad, its a great game, when it works.more -
Jun 16, 2020 A very good implementation of the board game. The UI is a bit idiosyncratic and rotating track is a bit fiddly but not too bad once you get used to it. The AI responds quickly and plays decently. One of the better board game implementations I have played.more

Jun 28, 2020 Needs internet/4G on to play, which I hate and is ridiculous. *Awful* tutorial, that shows just a tiny bit and then asks you to download a PDF rulebook (with fuzzy pictures) to learn the game (most digital boardgames include rulebook). No pop-up descriptions either so don't even know what some action cards do without outside research. "Undo" also resets whole turn, not just last action. Otherwise app seems fine.more -
Multiplayer needs improvement
Mar 31, 2019 You cant invite friends so you need to leave a game open for them to join. The turn notifications also dont work. I was very encouraged when the multiplayer was first rolled out but have struggled to complete any games as friends need to be messaged in another medium that it is their turnmore -
Sep 8, 2019 This kind of deep strategy requiring mastery is right up my alley. This game however is rather long form and I strongly suspect it's better on the table. Anyway it has a distinguished pedigree so I'm glad I've tried it. -
Update fatigue
Feb 23, 2019 Are you guys seriously pushing out an update when you have a sale so you can put the 'Sale' banner on your icons? Because that's what it looks like. -
Nov 7, 2020 Why does this app require an internet connection even when playing an offline game? I don't have access to WiFi where I use my tablet so this app is useless to me.

Nov 21, 2019 Was broken, is now fixed – thank you! Steam is an abstract, puzzle-y, strategy game where you move cubes along your tracks to the appropriate city. I really enjoy the puzzle and the AI is actually almost challenging. However it is quite abstract so probably not for everyone.more -
May 31, 2019 Great implementation of the board game. Like TTR but with deeper strategy. Everything works perfect and i have a lot of fun playing it. My only suggestion is can you make the undo work per step not all step that the player take so we can just correct the last wrong step.more -
Great implementation of a great board game
May 23, 2017 Not much more to say that that. -
Apr 19, 2020 UPDATE: I have come back to the game after a few years and acknowledge there are indeed seven maps now, well done. Why don't you say in your advertising that you have to buy most of the maps, this would have altered my decision. How do you get a refund on an app ?more -
Looks great so far
Nov 5, 2015 This loaded fine for me, including the map and the rules pdf, so apparently whatever issues they were having at launch have been resolved. The graphics look great and the UI is polished and intuitive. And (hooray!) they included a colorblind-friendly graphics setting, a huge improvement over the original cardboard game. It remains to be seen whether the AI plays well, and there are still a number of features waiting for a future release. But so far this seems to be a worthy addition to the IOS board game genre.more

Aug 8, 2020 Great game, but problem with extra maps. Bought extra maps which loaded on android tablet. Opened 2nd android tablet to same google account. Cannot get maps on 2nd tablet. Can anyone help? -
Nov 7, 2019 The best board game app. Period. Great gameplay, easy to learn and finally a developer gets the AI just right! I dropped my rating by 1 star because after the update, the game is agonizingly slow. What happened? -
Great, but a little rough around the edges
Nov 5, 2015 First of all, the core experience is great. Good presentation and artwork, great gameplay with no bugs or glitches. There are a few things that could be improved though... •The initial download takes a while, and you can't exit the app while it takes place. Took an hour or so on LTE in North Atlanta. •The app doesn't even multitask on the iPhone, which is bonkers. But with the game saving your progress after every move it's an annoyance, not a deal breaker. •The game manual is a link to a PDF instead of built into the game. •Tile placement can be a little bit finicky. In summary, if you really want this game, go ahead and buy it. If you're not totally sure, waiting for the first major update is completely reasonable.more

Help?
Jan 25, 2019 How do I get the app to let me take multiple turns moving goods in the move goods phase? It always ends the phase after I move one good instead of cycling through all the players’ turns repeatedly. Very annoying -
Worst tutorial ever
Aug 17, 2017 The game doesn't place a yellow good on Einhoven, then tells you to transport one yellow good to Njinmegen. It won't let me progress past that. I really want to give this game a higher review, but the tutorial is a dumpster fire.more

Great game, shoddy implementation
Nov 5, 2015 I love Wallace's games, especially Steam and Age of Steam. This implementation is pretty slipshod, however. The game needs to download additional data after installation, but that only works on a solid Internet connection. If anything goes wrong it just crashes and is unplayable. Once it's working it ... is very slipshod. The UI conventions are inconsistent, inexplicable, and unintuitive. I m familiar with the board game, but get confused constantly by the UI. There's a lot of potential here but the developers need to put some real effort into user experience, especially given the price point ($10 with two maps).more

Broken Tutorial Beware
Jun 17, 2018 This may be a decent game if you know how to play the board game. The tutorial however is broken and does not allow you to progress after a couple of turns. -
Feb 29, 2020 WHY does this thing suddenly refuse to start unless I'm online, even for local OFFLINE games. Uninstalling ASAP. Great game turned into a useless app. Thanks so much for wasting my money. -
Waste of money
Dec 5, 2017 The tutorial makes the game impossible to learn. I really don’t understand how the game plays on my devices, so I never attempt it for very long. It’s a very frustrating game. -
Junk
Jun 26, 2017 The game consistently crashes. No response from their "Help" link. The online manual seems more geared to the board game. Poor game play. Request for refund ignored. Why is this garbage in the App Store?
What’s Groovy
This is one of those games you really have to pay attention while playing. I had to search for tips on the internet how to successfully win or be at least competitive against the lowest Computer players. The tutorial, as mentioned, is not very helpful.

What’s Subpar
Not a well made app. You can't undo your last action, only the whole turn. Also for some actions, there is no undo at all (e.g. upgrade locomotive) and it just instantly ends your turn. There is no tips or keywords when clicking things, so you just have to know the rules to play. I think it is a good game, that has not been done justice by the app developer. I suggest the app developers play some other mobile board games, e.g. Through the Ages, to see how it should be done.
