It's never ideal to spend 2 hours at the grocery store reading the backs of every label to make sure the products you're getting are low sodium. You can scan each item to instantly see if it fits in your diet and if there are any better for you options you can use instead.

If you don't live in an area that allows for home food delivery or prefer to shop for your food at the store, it's great to have some handheld knowledge. Not only do you have information on over 1000 ingredients but you can set allergies and diets to help you shop smart.

It can be a struggle to find a local grocery store or restaurant with delicious gluten-free options. However, your phone can help you find places within a 15-minute drive that can help you stick to your necessary diet restrictions.

If you are trying to lose weight and you want to stick to a diet, but you're a vegan, it can be hard to find the right foods. That's why this app is so handy. It makes it simple to find the things you need without spending 30 to 60 minutes trying to sort it out.

If you can find 2 or 3 stores near you that allow you to make the best choices for your lifestyle, then avoiding GMO food will be even easier. Check out what's available near you so you can avoid GMO food without being inconvenienced.

So far so good! My only suggestion would be to add a filter menu to searches / scanned items / lists, which provides options for sorting by food groups, brands, descending/ascending number rating, and excellent, good, poor, etc. matches only. As it is, looking through lists and searches is a nightmare when you have a LOT of items to look through. Another helpful feature would be to add an option to filter out duplicate items in searches--I once had a search give me 10+ dupes for several items.

I want to thank the developers of this app for making it completely accessible to vision impaired people. I haven’t found one feature that does not work with voiceover on my iPhone. There are many companies that do not do that. Thank you so much. That being said, the products in your database are very limited. There are some brands from areas of the country that are not represented at all. Your barcode scanner will not recognize anything with H-E-B or Hill country fair brand on it. Almost all brands and your database are not carried by the stores in my area. Please represent more regions of the country that have grocery store chains not represented in your database.

I've only had the app a couple of weeks so far but I am loving it! My son has a corn allergy. Corn is often 'hidden' in foods because it comes in many forms (goes by many names, like dextrin, maltodextrin, etc). This app immediately identifies corn as an ingredient (even when it goes by a different name) and I wish I'd discovered it years ago!! Very helpful!

I love this app! It has really opened my eyes to see what foods I was feeding my family. It is so easy (and fun) to adjust your personal/family diet settings, and then search for products that match what you are looking for. When you open the app, it automatically shows several products that are good matches for you. I’m not adding a picture for my profile because I love the default crying onion😂 I really liked the original version of the app, too, but I am really pleased with this newly renovated version.
  • I love this app, but it has issues. Jan 30, 2021

This app is an amazing shopping helper if you’re looking to be more careful about what you’re buying. However, it has some issues that make it less usable than I want it to be. It seems like any attempt at editing profiles or lists ends in an error message. The search function could also be improved, as you don’t really get to see all the results when you search something. For example, I searched “condensed soup” and only got a handful of results when I know there are many, many soups logged on the app. It would be nice to have more results and maybe even a way to filter them in the future.

I was reluntant at first to try this app due to a lot of negative reviews and comments. I just found out some food allergies that is includes in lots of foods, such as wheat, and this app is a good help. It also helps with other ingredients you want to avoid, such as sugar, etc. It even shows you foods that will be good for you to choose that disclides everything, which is good for someone new to a bad allergy trying to find new foods to eat. So far, I love this app

I love the app and have been using it for a week. I really feel like this would really improve the app so I wanted to inform the developer about it. While doing the sign up process there are certain things which are asked of people; their wants and avoidances of certain food categories. As an example I’ll use the terms disaccharides and sulfites from the app. Let’s say a new user sees these terms and doesn't know what they are. It would be really cool if there was a way for its information to be displayed through a double click or if it was just there. I hope I came up with something useful.

I like this app, for the most part. It seems to think that meat alternatives are meat when you submit to avoid meat. Fixing this would help immensely for us non-meat-eating folks. Other that, it's great and the barcode scanner is super efficient. Doesn't take a lot of time to use and if you have allergies this is perfect.

I don’t write reviews often but this app is a game changer! It is changing my life while possibly saving my life or at the very least my health! I have developed allergies later in life and having successfully raised a child with food allergies I thought I knew what I was in for but my allergies are so different and so much more complex that I knew I needed help. This is the best app I have found for people suffering from food allergies. It is capable of alerting you to allergens not listed on the label which is where I was finding myself in trouble. Thank you so much for this life saving app!!!!

This helped me so much in the store, I would have never been able to get the right foods, this was a major time saver. I love how it keeps track of what you scan. I can now eat cereal again, had to find both cereal and a milk, would have took a lot of research but with the app it was scan and go.

Not helpful if you are shopping with food restrictions. Instead of giving me alternatives, the app just told me I can't have these products. For example, there's plenty of vegan cheese on the market but they don't have any on the app.

I am gluten sensitive and have to avoid foods that contain gluten. I have been in desperate search for food scanner apps that help weed out diet restrictions and this app came up. I love the idea that this app will help because gluten takes forms in many ingredients and it’s hard to remember each ingredient or have to search it up while food shopping. However, upon installing the app it’s been giving me a hard time setting up an account and loading each screen on the app! Navigating through each screen and on each page the app is malfunctioning and there’s a pop up saying “Error! Something went wrong” ... what is this madness?! I have deleted the app, restarted my phone and reinstalled, still nothing. It’s being downloaded over strong WiFi, so I know connection isn’t the issue. However this is very disappointing to the point that I had to write a review and let the developers know there is a serious bug and it needs to be fixed, my review won’t be changed until then, when I can get the full experience of the app. So if you downloaded this app for dietary reasons like me... Downloaded this app to help make purchasing allergen free food for my baby easier. It claims to be able to warn you about allergens quickly and easily with an intuitive scanning feature....but it's wrong more often than it's right. I can scan something that's clearly labeled "dairy free", and this app will say it contains dairy. It even makes recommendations that clearly contain milk, like cheese puffs! Honestly, it seems like it simply recommends bougie brands and nothing else.

I just installed this app and for the second item I scanned, the nutrition information in the app is incorrect for Great Value Dry Roasted & Salted Peanuts seasoned with sea salt. For example, the app is showing an incorrect product image, nutrients that are not on the product label like vitamin E, and the app is showing incorrect values for several nutrients when compared to the label, like amount of carbs, sugar, and magnesium.

Im allergic to pork, there's not a specific setting for pork, so I just set it to avoid meat altogether. I also set my dietary needs as vegetarian. I scanned several items in the grocery store that were not vegetarian to see how it worked, things like chicken broth, beef stock, and gelatine. They all came up as good matches! Do not trust this app!

I began using this app when my doctor recommended I do the low fodmap diet for 6 weeks. I thought this would make shopping for specific foods a lot easier. Boy, was I wrong. It is not accurate when you scan items in the store. For example, I would scan items, and it would say to avoid this item because of a certain ingredient in it, like soy. I would then look at the ingredients on the product and nowhere would it be listed. I would not recommend this app.

This seems like a very useful app... However, it's useless for my purposes. I am vegan, but, as somebody with many, many food sensitivities from chronic illness which aren't based on any mainstream 'diet,' this app has no way to let me manually input foods which I have a sensitivity to... So, vegan or not, this app isn't helpful when I still have to read ingredient labels myself anyway.

In theory this is a great app but unfortunately I couldn't get it to work even once. I created multiple profiles trying to customize it for my needs and nothing. Every page showed error 500, whatever that means. They need to go through their code for Android and find what's broken.

This app might be ok if you dont have a special diet. For special diets though it sucks. I am on a Low FODMAP diet and it says that one of my best matches is a bag of chopped onions... that is litterally the worst suggestion for Low FODMAP diets. That could serously hurt someone! i can see how this would be ok for non-medical diets, but for those of us who rely on accuracy, no thanks. I think you may need to work with an actual dietician if you're going to keep servicing these types of diets.

  • Changed my relationship with food Dec 4, 2018

    By n00b82618
I’ve been meaning to learn to build a better relationship with what i eat daily. My schedule doesn’t really allow me to cook, so my focus moved onto what kind of food/product I consume. I was struggling with my new goal, but discovering Shopwell changed my game. Shopwell makes it super easy for me to know which product I can trust and consume, knowing that it is good for me. I’d love to know more about how my score is calculated, but so far so good, have been loving their recommendations and been feeling good with how my body feels.

Fantastic App. Simple UI, straightforward results with tons of information. I suffer from Celiac Disease & Lactose/Casein Intolerance. So many times, this App has saved me! Products I thought were safe, were actually not, and products I avoided, were found to be safe. The library of items, and details of information is vast. This is by far one of the best free apps out there, and I am continually grateful for it, as I use it on a daily basis.

Thus is a late entry....I follow a specific dietary intake and cant consume certain foods. This app has made it 10x times better for me to look at hidden names for Ingredients that now I dont have to memorize or carry in my bag at all times to see if they are in the Ingredients list. Obviously I still make sure I double check everything but for as long as I have used this app I've had no accidents with hidden names of food ingridient labels.

I’ve only been using the app a short time. I like that it manages many different parameters rather than just gluten, for example. When searching an item I wish it would sort them into best choices 1st. It’s annoying to look through several lists of avoids before finding something. Also, there are a lot of foods, especially store brands, that are not in the database. I’ve tried to add them but get the error that the barcode wasn’t included, but there is no way to add it. Overall very useful though.

My daughter has food allergies to Peanuts, Eggs, and Soy. This app has made it so much easier to find foods she can eat. All you do is scan the items at the grocery store and it lets you know to avoid that particular item or if it’s ok to have. It will even make suggestions for another item if you can’t have that particular item. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because I wished the app would have non-food items. Definitely a must have app when going grocery shopping.

I’ve been using this app for a month. This really helped me kick start my gluten and dairy free diet by helping me shop. You don’t realize how hidden some ingredients are in food products. I love how when you scan a food product it will highlight the ingredients I want to avoid and also recommend supplement foods. But now every time I try to get on the app it crashes right away. I don’t know if any one else is experiencing this? I also don’t know if there something I can do to fix this?

This is probably the best product nutrition info based app I used next to OptUp and Fooducate. As much as I rely on this for all the upfront details it mentions, this one flaw literally makes the app unusable where it crashes upon loading every single time now. Good thing the website exists, but it feels slow compared to the app I want to use again. Currently using an iPhone XR with iOS 13.

I feel like this app would be better if it didn't have just preselected things. I have an issue with Fake Sugar, and instead of being able to put it in the avoid section I could only put it in the "have less of" section instead. Also where is the less/no caffeine option? It's a good start but needs work. Its fine if your wants are more generic

Super helpful in making sure a I shop safely for my son’s allergy needs, but I am CONSTANTLY having to uninstall and reinstall. When I am asked to rate the app, whether I rate it say later, it shuts off. After that, I am unable to open the app without it shutting down immediately. The only way to stop this is to uninstall the app and reinstall, only to have to happen again once it asks me to review. I have had it less than a week and uninstalled and reinstalled 10 ten times.

This is a really nice app, but right now I have to build my shopping list in Shopwell, then retype it into Notes because you don’t let us add non-food items to the grocery list! People buy things besides groceries at the grocery store, and it would be nice to be able to add non-food items locally (as in, without loading them to the database, which would not be helpful and make the database cluttered)
