Great app
Sep 19, 2020 Plays well versus the AI, with no lag or crashes. The user interface is well implemented and gives you easy access to the current score and eligible hexes one can move to. The undo can be a bit clunky at times (e.g. to undo a single move you have to finish the entire action). Also, not sure how to tell at a glance which resources in the bottom row can be reduced via the Upgrade action. These are minor complaints, I still think the game is well worth it.more -
Feb 8, 2021 Great game but no way to undo is a fatal flaw. There is little reason to not have a undo button during your turn. If you misclick on a move action you could have cost yourself the game. Another note, there is no deselect on your move action. If you select a unit you are forced to move it. Why?more -
Released finished game EDIT: Nevermind I’m dumb
Sep 17, 2020 You can’t use “2 move” action on the same unit (character or worker). Turn 1 of game 1 and I can’t move my character 2 spaces to pick up encounter. If this very basic action is wrong who knows what else is wrong. Please refund money or fix game. Pretty sad for $8 game. Edit: I followed the digital in game rules link and under top row move it says to move 2 different (italicized) units. I thought that was a change in a newer edition or something because we’ve played Scythe for years without noticing you couldn’t use both move actions on same unit. I opened my physical rule book and there is was. Two different units. Now I’m questioning everything I thought I knew about everything as I may have just worm holed into a parallel universe where the only difference is you can’t move the same character twice in scythe.more -
Dec 11, 2020 Good port of a great game. I'll give 5 stars once these are fixed: 1. Building bonuses don't work right (e.g. for Neighbor Tunnels, 1 building by 2 tunnels gives $4 instead of $2) 2. Can't know which 6 bottom row upgrades will be available. (E.g., if a mech costs me 4 metal now, what price can I get it down to? 3, 2, or 1?) 3. There's no Undo button for online play. One "mis-tap" can ruin your game. 4. For online play, there's no way to propose a game to a player who isn't currently online.more -
Needs some work
Oct 9, 2020 One of my favorite board games. App needs work. Having to be online just to set up asynchronous game is not ideal. I haven’t found a way to activate the “undo” button during a multiplayer game. And there is a hack I’ve found that pretty much breaks combat. When combat is decided, before you click the “accept” button to resolve the fight, just exit the app. Reload, and enter the game again. App will start combat back from the beginning...after you have already been shown your opponents combat strength used for the fight. I’ve done it twice. I’m not certain it will work every time, but it needs to be addressed.more

Dec 1, 2020 You know, it's a good game but I'm going to have to rate it at a one star until they fix the go-back/reverse actions on the game. They're real hit and miss on what it will allow you to reverse even if no unknown info is revealed on your turn. Real amateur hour issue there that should have been fixed early on. Love the game guys but get this fixed now.more -
Jan 31, 2021 Terrible asynchronous online matchmaking...Scythe is a great game and like other great games should allow people to create games and wait offline for them to begin when others join. It's an app for a cell phone after all...how long should you keep the same screen on your phone to create an asynchronous game?more -
Crashes at load screen
Sep 20, 2020 I use a first generation iPad Air - the app quits before the game even loads and then when I log back in I get a prompt saying the save data is corrupted and I can’t resume the game. I try to start a new game and it crashes again. It’s only $9 so it’s not a huge loss but still a loss, none the less. Side note: this seems to be a consistent problem with game apps on first generation iPad Air tablets - other games I own like Mystic Vale and Evolution have the same problem where it crashes and the game is unplayable. I read reviews where older model iPhones have no issues with game apps so I’m not sure why this particular model of iPad is such garbage.more -
Kind of the bare minimum
Sep 27, 2020 I love this board game, and have been waiting for this app for months. I’m disappointed it is a little basic. The tutorial is more like a series of unconnected tips, and accessing the rules simply takes you to a PDF of the rule book for the board game, which actually doesn’t look all that much like the app does. When I press the help button (?) I would expect it to help explain what was on the screen at the time, but instead it just shows you a standard help screen. Overall, it works, but is not really great in any aspect.more -
Dec 7, 2020 Works great at first. After I log in for multiplayer the game will not open on subsequent launches. I have to wipe all data to open the app again. And once again, after I log in for multiplayer the game gets stuck on the loading screen for subsequent launches.more

Amazing - IFA??
Nov 17, 2020 I love this game, and I think the LoU guys did a fine job with this implementation! I’d love for some more UX enhancements that make it a little easier to access game information, particularly modals or slide outs that can be toggled, or perhaps a small icon-based hud when an entity or icon is tapped. Most importantly, I’m hoping we can get Invaders from Afar for this platform - being able to practice Albion or Togawa on the go would be incredibly helpful for my game!!more -
Nov 24, 2020 I am a big fan of Scythe tabletop game and fully loved the transition of the digital edition. Spot on! I hope the expansions will come out very soon for Android. Please hurry up!!! The only deficit is that I have unlocked all game achievements (including the hidden one) on Android but the final one "Teleporting back to homebase" (Complete all achievements) does not unlock. I have also emailed you about it. Kindly have a look into this matter. Thank you!more -
Great Fun!
Jan 5, 2021 A really fun and accelerated way of playing this great board game. The only issue we have is the camera, which auto-snaps to each player whenever they take an action. It appears there had been a fix for this in a previous patch, but that may have only been for the Steam version. On the version downloaded from the App Store, there seems to be no way of toggling this feature off.more -
Dec 26, 2020 Severe flickering on brand new high-end Pixelbook Go, as mentioned in another review. I'll update this review when that gets fixed, but so far I haven't been able to play the actual game. UPDATE: As of the Oct. 12th update, the game now runs perfectly on my Pixelbook Go. Great game!more

Jan 13, 2021 Beautiful version of one of my favorite boardgames. Unfortunately there are a few control issues during multiplayer that can really mess you up. Not having any sort of undo, even inside your turn, can easily loose you the game. Clicking a mm off on the screen, will lead you to an unintended move that you can't take back.more -
Lazy graphic port
Sep 19, 2020 Playing on: • iPad 2020 Pro 12.9 • iPhone 11 Pro Max 4 ⭐️ because looks nothing like Steam PC version, and steam pc version is nothing to begin with, graphics-wise. Barely any shadows & detail on worker models, pulls away immersion of an actual piece on a board. Faction Models (shiny, bright white pieces) with some sculpted features. No shadows or details. No graphical effort. For an Asmodee developed game - I’m shocked. Their quality used to be higher. I own majority Asmodee titles. Scythe deserved better. To me... this comes across like a rushed job. Get the money from the board game designer and dump all production values & team efforts on Gloomhaven. Scythe could had definitely used a tad more visual polish to produce stronger immersion. Game play is solid 5 stars!more -
Oct 22, 2020 Great game, and good adaptation to the mobile. I have two complaints. 1) It is a bit hard to understand the faction mat and upgrades on it. 2) It is missing the ability to revert actions before ending the turn for online games. Since the screen is relatively small, it is easy to make mistakes during the action phase and there is no way to revert them. In Terra Mystica for instance, you can refresh your turn unless you hit the end turn button. This type of functionality may help online gamers.more -
Great First Version of the App
Sep 20, 2020 Would love to give this game 5 stars. It’d be nice if you can see other players’ mats, the upgrades that can be done, and if the slide where you can see people’s previous moves was inverted where you don’t have to scroll all the way to the bottom to see what the other player just didmore

Dec 17, 2020 Samsung Galaxy S9 - app regularly locks on load screen requiring a system restart, but once I'm in it's great. The load screen issue had been resolved for weeks but has returned today. I'd forgotten how frustrating this is, but hopefully it will be fixed soon.more -
Great iPad version, constantly crashes
Sep 23, 2020 I’ve been playing this game for a few years in all its versions. Been awaiting the iPad version for a while and very happy that it has arrived. Looks beautiful, plays great, but it crashes constantly. I’m talking multiple times per game. It’s very frustrating, especially if playing online with others. I would recommend waiting until they get the bugs worked out before buying it.more

Works on iPhone but crashes on iPad
Sep 18, 2020 Played on iPhone and it is good if you have a lot of experience with physical board game, otherwise you may miss a lot. For example I knew I should be able to specify how many workers I want to carry with mech so I put the effort in to figure out this is hidden under tapping the label. Or how to find details on your objectives or the building bonus. I then tried it on iPad to see if it utilizes the larger screen, but it just crashes even after a hard restart. I expect they will improve it with time.more -
Not a legible GUI on a phone
Jan 6, 2021 I wouldn't recommend playing this on a phone. It might be better listed as iPad only, unless you've played the board game before. Having never played the game, I'm not familiar with the iconography. I think I might rely too much on being able to read rules and descriptions. But on a phone, everything is crammed to the point where it's impossible to make out half of the text or the iconography. If you've played the board game before, I'm sure it might be easy enough to conclude that an icon could only mean one of a few things, and you probably don't need to read much/any of the tutorial text. It feels like trying to learn Civ 6 by playing a direct 4k resolution PC port on a 6" screen. The GUI just doesn't fit unless you have a microscope to see it or know what you're looking for already.more -
Oct 9, 2020 As an adaptation, it's great, but the multiplayer is too clunky. A friend and I bought it when we heard it had asychronous multiplayer, but you have to both be in the app at the same time, making it very clunky and kind of cancelling the appeal of not having to schedule time to play together. If you could invite a friend to start a game without having to be online at the same time, I'd change to 5 stars.more

Dec 30, 2020 Poor implementation of a good game. Asynchronous online games are unplayable as all players need to be present to start the game which defeats the purpose of the mode. This combined with undersized UI buttons and a bland color palette make for a bad game.more
What’s Groovy
Great game, good adaptation of the real board game, although maybe not as good as the one in steam. However, many of the achievements are broken, like winning with the different factions or achieving the highest tier on buildings. If that was fixed, this game for me would be 5 stars.

What’s Subpar
Scythe is an excellent board game. This app looks good so far and I was able to log in via my Asmodee account and add friends within the app, which is more than I can do in other Asmodee games (Terraforming Mars).
HOWEVER, that’s all I’ve seen so far. Why? Because for some nonsensical reason you cannot invite friends into an asynchronous (here called Play & Go) game unless everyone is online. We have been trying to coordinate via forum for four people spread across 7 hours of time zones to all log in at the exact same time just to start a game. We still haven’t managed to do this. Is there a reason Asmodee can’t figure out how to do something that other developers figured out nearly a decade ago at this point?
I’ll update my review accordingly should the experience improve, but when you spend premium money on a top-rated board game made by the biggest board game app developer in the world you expect basic functionality without having to jump through asinine hoops.
