• Surreal logic puzzles Oct 30, 2016

I've enjoyed the Cube escape games (even the very short ones - they «were» free), and this installment of the Rusty Lakes mystery was the best so far! They all have very strange, dreamlike, at times spooky and/or creepy, Twin Peaks inspired elements, some dark humor, and great puzzles. This one in particular had a nice balance, and the quest to get perfect meals adds replay value (a couple of the ingredients are somewhat difficult - but I was able to get them all. See end of my review for a vague hint). Definitely unsettling (I'm glad I'm a vegetarian), and I'm still befuddled as to exactly what's going on in the series, though I've followed the order of the games from their website), I can't wait to explore the next games of Rusty Lake. [ingredient hints: sometimes you have to do something more than once. Also, the king does not amount to one, that owl might be hiding something! Shocking that poor chick made me want to throw up. Good luck!]. ;)

Tbh I find this rather easier than the cube series. I stumbled upon some puzzle too but not as much as the cube series. The clues are more straightforward here except for the hidden achievement ofc. Also I think its okay if people didnt play this, its not really related to the real case, and didnt truly have a story to tell. But yeah you will still get a little hint of how RL works tho.

I used to play all other games, and I loved it, and it was the first time when I bought a game. Unfortunately the background is totally black. And I can't finish the game, because it should be black cubes to push (I ve checked the video), but I don't see them... Kind of disappointed

At first I was hesitant to buy this game, I worried that it wouldn't be worth the money, but it proved to be an incredible game. I spent around four hours finishing it and it's definitely worth the money because it keeps you busy and it's so interesting. I was never bored, it's a fantastic game and keeps your mind working. I've played every single Rusty Lake game, and they've never disappointed me once. I love the little elements of horror sprinkled in. What perfection. The voices, the graphics, the soundtrack, the characters, the storyline. All your games are so artfully crafted. The mystery of rusty lake is an incredibly interesting one and this game was just another great addition to the collection. I want to say keep up the good work to all the people working on these games because they're just amazing and probably the best thing I've ever played, so good job on that. I love you guys!💓💞💕

I've played this game before in a pirated version, and I am generally such a big fan of the franchise that I decided to purchase it to support the creative team! However, I encountered an issue with the background being entirely black... Edit: I don't see the option to lower the graphics quality when I access the Options/Settings menu in-game. Just effects, which I have already turned off.

Frustrating. I have loved the other rusty lake games I've played but this one left me cold. For me the story made no sense in the order it played out. I couldn't find half the ingredients despite clicking on everything multiple times. Had to watch the walkthroughs repeatedly. Uninstalled after completing two rooms and I am usually very persistent.

So disappointed. I have played all the free cube escape games and they really were far far better than this. I feel like I wasted the money for such a short pretty boring game. The others are so much better and free

• First Rusty Lake fail Jul 12, 2020

By Mike in Rome
I am a big fan of the Rusty Lake puzzles, but Hotel is the first "premium" game I tried / paid for, and unfortunately the first with a significant bug. I solved the first room, Mr Deer, without any trouble, but I missed the rosemary and didn't realize that it would affect the number of stars earned. (Suggestion: instead of calling ingredients "optional" maybe let players know that it's desirable by adding a star on the menu page.) I reset the game so I could go back and get the rosemary - the game restarted but then will not progress beyond the opening sequence and The Lobby. I tried resetting several times, even deleted and reinstalled the app, but the same problem every time - the game is stuck in the opening Lobby. I deliver the local delicacy to the guests, and then - nothing. The phone doesn't ring and the game will not progress. And no way to get help from the developer, unless I leave a negative review like this. I regret buying this game.

• One of the most compelling games/series I've ever played Feb 4, 2017

By Dubs1
And its so hard to rate each game separately, as they all feel as 'one' and are all brilliant in their own way...I love the weirdness, the horror, the creepiness, the characters, the creative puzzles, the story reveals, etc. etc.....this game/series is something very special and everyone should at least give it a try...their earlier games are FREE to try out and see if it's your cup of tea..but I'm betting most won't be able to put it down and want to keep discovering more about the mystery of rusty lake....that's exactly what happened to me and here I am having downloaded all their games which includes buying the premium new ones which are well worth the price with the longer stories. My only regret is I didn't get on board with this thing sooner! An absolute mind-bending masterpiece. David Lynch would be proud.

Eek! I want to give it 5 stars, but I ran into the problem with the black background again >_< I can't find an option to change graphics in the menu... any other solutions? I do really want to play! Rusty Lake games are my absolute favorite of any mobile game I've ever played - and that's a *lot*!

LOOOOVED THE (SHORT) GAME.. This app was my first ever purchase on Gplay. I've played all of the Rusty Lake free games, which made me fall in love with them obsessively, some of the adventures took me 4-5 days to solve. This game was no different - very interesting and keeps you hooked. However, IMO, the game's a little shorter for the price I have paid. I finished it within a day, and it feels like a letdown, that's cos I was wondering expecting lot more puzzles and adventures. Hence 4 stars.

I enjoyed Hotel, but it is very odd, and there is seemingly little connection with the rest of the series (unless you have played Roots and squint a lot!!). If you like anthropomorphic game animals in fancy dress, murder, dinner, a little intrigue, and Victorian styling, then this is for you. I just didn't find the gameplay as interesting as the others, and the story is a tad repetitive while not really revealing much of interest compared with the other Rusty Lake games. Still good fun though!

• Only frustration of the game Jun 2, 2020

By SiouxsieQue42
I love the Rusty Lake games, but now I see the frustration expressed in another comment. The optional stars require things done in a certain order; otherwise you must reset. The developer responded with this was inaccurate, but I’m not sure it is entirely inaccurate. (Spoiler alert) If I went from carrot to Room 1, I wouldn’t be able to get 3 stars, if in Mr. Rabbit I used the knife on the hand not Mr Owl’s forehead, I miss an item. I hope I phrased that in a way that it doesn’t ruin the experience for someone else. I love the games but it is annoying having to reset the entire game, rather than just resetting the specific day. I’ll keep trying and hopefully I’m wrong.

This one was faster than I expected from a paid one, but I also enjoyed it. I just wish that you could get the optional items for the rabbit without the possibility of goofing up. If I use the knife on the hand first, it never lets me take it back to use for the photo, keeping me from earning 3 stars. I had to reset the game for that, which was a little annoying. Otherwise, it was pretty fun!

• Not as good as the free games Sep 3, 2019

By zingo curmudgeon
I’ve played all the free games so finally tried this paid game. While I think the game is worth the small cost, it’s somewhat disappointing. The logic puzzles in “hotel” seem simpler and more straightforward than in the free games. What’s frustrating is how much the ordering of events is relevant to getting a top score. The result is that beating the game involves a lot of rote repetition to order your actions optimally. This makes the game last longer but at a cost of tedium, particularly because the ordering is arbitrary and not clued in any way. In particular there’s at least one instance (2nd guest meal if done in correct order) where an item is required twice in order to get a perfect score - but one of the two actions makes the item unusable. So those two actions have to be done twice, for no reason other than arbitrary choice. (If the item remaine available to be picked up again, ordering wouldn’t matter.)

I just started playing this one and the walls of the rooms are black instead of wallpaper. Makes it hard to see key and other black items or the description caption of each inventory item. What do you suggest I do to fix background?

Usually love rusty lake games. But there seems to be a bug in this one. Mrs Pigeon is not giving the key after eating the corn. Anyway you can look into it and fix it? Can't wait to resume playing again.

• Annoying to Reset May 28, 2019

By Tom-Ok
I found it frustrating to have to reset or replay to get all the optional ingredients if not properly found (e.g. blackberries on pigeon level). Couldn’t seem to get them after chick was released. Should be able to reset a specific level without having to restart from the beginning. Should have option to always find what’s needed before leaving room. On iPad it automatically left room once meat was found. No point in having exit door if you can’t use it. Puzzles were good though.

Hi guys, I love the rusty lake games but I had had problems with several of your games because the background is completely black, there is not a issue of graphic settings, I think depends of the mobile where you play them. For example, I played "case 23" and "cube scape" before since a Moto G6 and the games run correctly but if you play since a Huawei Y6 the background turns black in these games and in rusty lake hotel too!! I hope this gets fixed, at the moment I requested a refund :(
