I've enjoyed the Cube escape games (even the very short ones - they «were» free), and this installment of the Rusty Lakes mystery was the best so far! They all have very strange, dreamlike, at times spooky and/or creepy, Twin Peaks inspired elements, some dark humor, and great puzzles. This one in particular had a nice balance, and the quest to get perfect meals adds replay value (a couple of the ingredients are somewhat difficult - but I was able to get them all. See end of my review for a vague hint). Definitely unsettling (I'm glad I'm a vegetarian), and I'm still befuddled as to exactly what's going on in the series, though I've followed the order of the games from their website), I can't wait to explore the next games of Rusty Lake. [ingredient hints: sometimes you have to do something more than once. Also, the king does not amount to one, that owl might be hiding something! Shocking that poor chick made me want to throw up. Good luck!]. ;)

Another interesting experience! My favorite rooms were Mr. Rabbit and Ms. Pheasant, but all are unique. The puzzle design was good overall; I had to break out pen and paper a few times, but I think that's a plus. Also, it became intuitive where I would find the first ingredient in each recipe from the first couple of nights. That said, finding the tomatoes and especially the blackberries wasn't logical; I never would have clicked anything that many times. Would like a "reset room" option, too.

This was an amazing game and very dark. All the cube escape games are absolutely WONDERFUL. Though, just as something to consider, I'd suggest putting a warning or something in the description, as there are a few things in this game in particular, such as the opium and essential suicide of some of the animals could be very triggering to some. Overall though, the cube escape series is done SO well, and by far my favorite escape game series.

At first I was hesitant to buy this game, I worried that it wouldn't be worth the money, but it proved to be an incredible game. I spent around four hours finishing it and it's definitely worth the money because it keeps you busy and it's so interesting. I was never bored, it's a fantastic game and keeps your mind working. I've played every single Rusty Lake game, and they've never disappointed me once. I love the little elements of horror sprinkled in. What perfection. The voices, the graphics, the soundtrack, the characters, the storyline. All your games are so artfully crafted. The mystery of rusty lake is an incredibly interesting one and this game was just another great addition to the collection. I want to say keep up the good work to all the people working on these games because they're just amazing and probably the best thing I've ever played, so good job on that. I love you guys!💓💞💕

Love love love all Rusty Lake games. Ive bought and finished 3 or 4 now and I am just blown away every time. Graphics are nice, I like the story book-esq drawings, puzzles are challenging but not frustrating. Only suggestion I have is for a hint button. Having to go to the walkthrough page and then to youtube is inconvenient and a little annoying. Sometimes i dont want to watch the whole solution and would rather a helpful hint. Other than that, 5/5 solid game.

• First Rusty Lake fail Jul 12, 2020

I am a big fan of the Rusty Lake puzzles, but Hotel is the first "premium" game I tried / paid for, and unfortunately the first with a significant bug. I solved the first room, Mr Deer, without any trouble, but I missed the rosemary and didn't realize that it would affect the number of stars earned. (Suggestion: instead of calling ingredients "optional" maybe let players know that it's desirable by adding a star on the menu page.) I reset the game so I could go back and get the rosemary - the game restarted but then will not progress beyond the opening sequence and The Lobby. I tried resetting several times, even deleted and reinstalled the app, but the same problem every time - the game is stuck in the opening Lobby. I deliver the local delicacy to the guests, and then - nothing. The phone doesn't ring and the game will not progress. And no way to get help from the developer, unless I leave a negative review like this. I regret buying this game.

I really love your games but this one has too many glitches for it to be enjoyable. It's unfortunate especially considering that it costs money.

• Only frustration of the game Jun 2, 2020

By SiouxsieQue42
I love the Rusty Lake games, but now I see the frustration expressed in another comment. The optional stars require things done in a certain order; otherwise you must reset. The developer responded with this was inaccurate, but I’m not sure it is entirely inaccurate. (Spoiler alert) If I went from carrot to Room 1, I wouldn’t be able to get 3 stars, if in Mr. Rabbit I used the knife on the hand not Mr Owl’s forehead, I miss an item. I hope I phrased that in a way that it doesn’t ruin the experience for someone else. I love the games but it is annoying having to reset the entire game, rather than just resetting the specific day. I’ll keep trying and hopefully I’m wrong.

• would be 5 stars but... Mar 11, 2021

By mamamammamarriiieeezzz
I would give this game five stars if it weren't for the fact that (spoilers) if you miss the "optional" ingredient you cannot reset the individual levels. What this means is that you have to replay the entire game every time you go too far in the level just to get one ingredient. Because it is optional, it may not seem like a big deal. But that means that you have one leas puzzle to solve if you just let it go and don't grab it. I want go be able to do all the puzzles, especially since I paid for this game. Please, let us reset per room. Otherwise, I have to cheat and look at a walkthrough for the optional ingredient before I get to do each level just so I don't have to replay the entire game after each room. I'm starting to not want to play this anymore because I've had to reset the entire game three times now. I feel like I've made no progress and I also feel dumb because I basically didn't get enough time to explore the rooms at my own pace.

Great puzzle game but if you want to finish perfectly it can be really frustrating as things have to be done in a certain order. If you miss a step you have to reset the entire game!!!! 😖 If there was an option of resetting to a certain point or save points the game would be perfect.

Frustrated. There really should be a 'reset room' option. Twice now I have had to restart the whole game as I have missed an ingredient by not doing things in the *exact* order. Other than that, the game seems great and visually very nice. Downsides have stopped me playing for now. Maybe another day I'll have the patience to start all again...

• Not as good as the free games Sep 3, 2019

By zingo curmudgeon
I’ve played all the free games so finally tried this paid game. While I think the game is worth the small cost, it’s somewhat disappointing. The logic puzzles in “hotel” seem simpler and more straightforward than in the free games. What’s frustrating is how much the ordering of events is relevant to getting a top score. The result is that beating the game involves a lot of rote repetition to order your actions optimally. This makes the game last longer but at a cost of tedium, particularly because the ordering is arbitrary and not clued in any way. In particular there’s at least one instance (2nd guest meal if done in correct order) where an item is required twice in order to get a perfect score - but one of the two actions makes the item unusable. So those two actions have to be done twice, for no reason other than arbitrary choice. (If the item remaine available to be picked up again, ordering wouldn’t matter.)

Love the rusty lake escape games, although sometimes a bit gruesome. So we paid for this one. Unfortunately whilst we had no problems with the free games, this one went dark half way through and couldn't be played. Shame, was good until then : (
