Honestly, I love this app because it’s greatly convenient!!! Probably one of THE MOST convenient and simple apps for free. Like another reviewer said instead of searching for the remote as long as you have your phone (which is most likely all the time) you’re good. As a wheelchair bound disabled person, some people in my home can leave the remote in places I can’t really reach so that’s were this app come in handy, and really in this household the remote generally has the tendency to disappear. So if you have a remote that has hidden legs and likes to go into hiding then the app is great. On a funny and more truthful note, I originally got the app because my sister and I weren’t getting along at the time and she knows every morning I use the tv. For some reason the next morning I couldn’t find the remote and had a gut feeling she hid it on purpose so that I had no choice but to talk and ask her where it was (in which she probably still wouldn’t have helped to be petty). To avoid needing her help, I downloaded the app and she looked confused and shocked like “😳”. I felt like victory with my phone remote 😎😂. I definitely take back what I said about people who used this app were being lazy but it comes in handy for more than not wanting to get up!!!

Overall a really good app! My house always looses the remote. So we all have this app downloaded, it's been a life saver. I can use the same app for any of the roku TVs at home. Sometimes multiple of us are connected to the living room and it works for all of us with no lag. I often get comfortable in bed but forget to turn on the TV, but now I can just open the app and turn on my last connected device (my bedroom TV.) Controls are easy, and the channels help change where your watching fast.

Best app for someone that is visually impaired because I can browse the channels and I can also use voice search so I love that idea and I have no issues whatsoever? I love the contact here on the Roku channel but I would love to see more genres added I am a huge horror movie fan so maybe add some movies and more channels for free here on the Roku channel I love the 70s horror grind house exploitation films but I love other shows and movies here I would love to see more documentaries and I would love to see some shock Demetris and Mondo flicks! And I’m also a fan of underground horror movies I would also love to have that added to here on the Roku channel so I would say keep adding more contact and keep going and also maybe add some movies and TV shows that can be narrated for people with visual impairments! I have a love for horror movies and classic movies too such as a Turner Classics but I also love Shakira mantras and I would love to see more news channels added here on the Roku channel so keep updating and keep adding more channels and keep growing

Since the physical remote breaks before the batteries die, this is the most used app in my home! I'm really glad it works as well as it does. I've even set up two phones as remotes and played audio out of both at the same time and it is true stereo, give it a shot(TV roku's don't play audio from the app, for some reason, but I have a stick so I don't care).

App constantly stops working. Works okay for a few days, then it stops altogether. Delete and re-download the App and it will continue to not work. Guess we'll just have to completely replace our remote. Don't bother leaving the app when it does work cause then you'll have to close and reopen the app to reconnect to your roku. This could be such a brilliant tool and it just doesn't quite make it.

There’s one thing that must be said about Roku, and that’s that I feel like this app was made because they knew that their remotes would die very quickly. By that I mean, 6 months into having my tv, the batteries inside the remote actually corroded and ate away the battery contacts inside. I cleaned the inside and replaced the batteries only for it to happen again 4 months later. I was using Kirkland signature batteries the second time. After the third time of cleaning out the remote I noticed certain buttons stopped working consistently, and eventually I had to switch to using the app. The app itself is very useful though, I can do more on it that I could with the original remote. I love that I can just open the app on my phone and not worry about looking for the remote that fell behind my bed in my sleep again. However I have one complaint about the app itself, it doesn’t have a widget. I would absolutely love if I could put a widget on my home screen with 3 buttons, power on most recently used tv, open the remote buttons, and volume up + down. If this feature was added, I would gladly change my review to 5 stars.

Version 8.1.0.6 has caused the app to crash when clicking on the device select screen. This may be due to my phone also being enrolled in the iPhone beta updates. Both updates ( iOS and app) happened at around the same time. I have since removed the phone from being enrolled in beta and reverted iOS to its non beta version. However the crash still exists. I have followed normal troubleshooting of removing and installing the app, rebooting, etc. This has given me the opportunity to check out the other Roku apps. While those other apps are at least able to let me hobble along and use the system, I hate that they have ads. I stand by that this app is the better of all the other apps. I just hope that this crash is a known issue and will get fixed in the next version. Update: I have updated to 8.1.1 and the issue has been resolved. I can finally get rid of the horrible competition. Thank you.

  • Great app when it decides to work Jul 27, 2019

    By Cerealkelr
I mainly use this for when I lose my physical remote or private listening when I want to watch TV, but not wake up housemates. It seems quite frequently it has stopped connecting to my TV saying that my TV may be in “eco mode” and asks me to “wake it up.” My TV is never in “eco mode” and I’m usually in the middle of a show when this happens. The only way I’ve figured out how to get it to recognize my TV again is to completely unplug my TV for about 20 seconds and plug it back in to completely reboot it. Then it usually works, but will often disconnect during the same watching session. It’s very random, too. Sometimes I can go a whole day without this problem. Sometimes I give up and just watch stuff from my phone because I can’t get it to private listen for more than 5 minutes. I have a strong WiFi connection and my bed where I try to private listen from isn’t far from my Roku TV. I don’t think I’ve ever reviewed an app before, but this needs to be fixed. I’ve looked at reviews from a year (and longer) ago complaining of the exact same issue. PLEASE GET THIS FIXED, roku developers!

This app seems to work very well. You need to be tied onto the same network to control your Roku devices. It certainly works better than the original remotes, which have a tendency to suddenly start the Netflix or Hulu apps randomly when pressing a completely unrelated remote button like the left direction or the fast forward. This remote app does not do that. Works like a charm. Love it. You can control several Roku streamers in your home with this app as well. Great job.
  • Frustrating at times. Even after update still doesn’t work. Aug 7, 2021

Biggest problem I have is that me nor my wife can connect to both of our TVs to access the remote in the app. I am connected to WiFi and it’s full signal in the living room and in the bedroom. My wife was having troubles a month ago for about 2 1/2 weeks and then it worked for me no problem. However about 4-5 days ago I can’t connect at all. I have WiFi connected to my phone and both TVs and the app is updated however the issue still persists. It’s a bit frustrating guess I will just go ahead an buy 2 new Roku remotes due to the app inconsistency we have had. I will say that when it’s worked for me, it was an amazing app however its not always easy to keep track of a physical remote when you have 2 kids that love to grab it a hide it, forget where they put it or it gets lost. So that’s why the app is always my go to to be able to quickly get the tv on without the 30 mins to all day search. Maybe others have had no issues like I’m having or maybe they have. Anyways 4 stars for the times everything worked however it pretty much useless when it refuses to connect.

Update from Roku comment: tried all recommend, still have to completely restart to use phone/headphones. Update June 2022- will connect to my phone only if I reset the TV with each use. Nov 2021- this app doesn't work. For months it's been spotty with connecting to the phone app, then the connection would cut out once connected. Now, it can't find my tv even when I've confirmed they're on the same network and only a couple yards away from one another and after checking for updates.

Barely ever works. I shouldn't have to be signed into my Roku account to access my TV, when every other Roku TV in the house shows up, connects, and works perfectly. But just not my TV for no apparent reason. Doesn't even show up when searching for devices most of the time, and will say "wake this device" when it's already on, and then never connect. But yeah, the other Roku tvs? Work just fine. I don't get it. It's only ever connected to MY TV and actually worked like what, 4 times?
  • This app never works properly Apr 25, 2022

This app is constantly having issues. My Wi-Fi connection is strong. It doesn’t matter how close my phone is to the Roku tv. I’ve tried restarting my tv and deleting the app and redownloading the app multiple times. It still has the same problems. Nothing helps. I downloaded this app because my tv remote is broken. This seemed like an easy solution. Nope. It doesn’t power on my tv like it’s supposed to so I always have to find some other way to do. Then if I get the tv on, the app won’t connect no matter what. I always try to connect it manually by putting in my IP address and that doesn’t help. So after closing the app and opening it over and over again eventually I might get it to work. But what’s even more frustrating is that once it does connect it’ll randomly stop. I’ve tried leaving my phone unlocked and keeping the remote app open and on the screen, I don’t always open other apps because I’m worried it’ll mess it up. But it doesn’t matter what I do. This app has a much better review than the other one but that’s only because the other one does absolutely nothing. This app isn’t much better.

I hate this app. When I open the app, the circle just spins and spins bc the homepage won't load. If my phone's screen times out, then the remote stops working, so I have to close it and open it again, even though it's still "connected" to my TV. In the course of just a single episode of a show, I might have to re-open the remote 10 times. This Roku app makes my life worse. I cuss this thing on a regular basis. It's not my wifi, it's not my internet speed, it's this damn app.

Most of the time this app won't connect to my TV without toggling network access off and on or clearing the cache. Audio is often out of sync with the video too. Response to the developer's comments below: I'll definitely try that to fix the audio sync issue, thanks for the info. Got any advice on how to make the process of connecting to the TV more robust?

Voice commands fail half the time. I've tried talking fast/slow and waiting less/more time after hitting the button. Sometimes the voice command does nothing, sometimes the mic button goes away completely. My phone handles voice input outside of this app with zero problems. I'll keep using it since it's better than blowing $20 on a physical remote I don't need but just barely.
  • Do NOT download this app! May 25, 2022

    By nerovanna
The app works perfectly for the first time after you connect it, but as soon as the TV turns off, it won’t stay connected and you can’t wake/turn on the TV with the app even if your phone and TV are connected to the same network. When I tried forgetting the device and re-adding it to app, it also says that the device cannot be found, even if the wifi connection is the same for both and the signal is strong. I have read the official support site and other sites that recommend restarting both the app and TV, and checking to make sure the app and TV are on the same network, and it does the trick…until the TV turns off again. At that point, it is easier and takes less time to just use the physical remote, and if you can’t use it, you’re out of luck. I even tried updating the app to see if the problem was resolved, but both changed. This app doesn’t serve its purpose and it is definitely not worth all the hassle. Save yourself some time and frustration and just don’t download this app. Roku, please just fix the app so it actually works for once.
  • Roku services bricked? Nov 21, 2021

    By VKStarfox
Been using this app with my Roku TCL TV for years without a problem, but as of yesterday this app just refuses to connect with my tv at all. It will even detect the tv but not connect with it, no matter how many times I tried. Another related issue is that I can’t seem to stream content from my mobile devices to my Roku tv anymore. Used to be able to beam whatever video I was watching on my phone straight to the tv, but now that doesn’t work either. Just like before, it detect that my Roku tv is there, but when I select it to stream from the phone, nothing happens… This all leads me to believe that there is a clear issue across Roku’s services. Perhaps their systems are down? My Roku tv still works fine otherwise, so I won’t give this a 1 star review, but as a wireless remote to my Roku tv, this app has effectively been bricked and made useless. I’m hoping Roku gets a handle on this issue soon, because the current update didn’t fix the connectivity issue and I still can’t use it to operate my tv.
  • From an accessibility standpoint, the watch app is pathetic! Dec 22, 2019

    By Mom24monsters
I haven’t found many issues with the iPhone app, but nobody, including me, has all day to read or in my case, write my entire review about what’s wrong with the Watch app. It’s so much easier to write what does work, and that’s kind of pathetic. Everything should work with voiceover, meaning this is an accessibility issue. Your TV talks, but you fail to understand how well accessibility needs to work on your apps. All I can say is, everything on page 2 of the app works, but nothing else does. I can switch from page to page, but heaven forbid I should touch the page chooser, because it ends up going back to page one, which is beyond frustrating! When I’m trying to do something on page 2, then I go too far and get to the page chooser, it goes back to page 1. That should not happen! When there are four pages, and only a quarter of them work with voiceover, you have a problem. Accessibility should be one of the first things you should check before releasing an app.

  • Very Convenient When you Misplace the Remote Nov 19, 2017

    By Mystiquekitty
I was very excited when I found out Roku made an app for the iPhone. My remote is often knocked over by the cats and lands under my wheelchair which makes it hard to find. Or when I misplace the remote which is why I wrote this review since I couldn’t find it and the rate screen popped up. Lol I find it especially simple to use and though I only have one Roku still hooked up it always finds the right one. I’ve had my Roku for several years and was wondering if the app would work. The app works just fine on my iPhone 5. Plus it looks exactly like my remote the one without the channel buttons. If it is possible to change the skins I do not know I haven’t searched it out. I read one reviewer mention it often can’t find their connection that has happened only once I just restarted the app and it was fine. This is one of my most useful and helpful apps I have on my phone!

I really like that it makes my apps for movies available as well as being a remote control so it has other things that are nice but that the fact that I can turn up and down the TV also with my phone just talking to the mic to order a movie it's a great app. I'm not kind of person that will put an app on my phone if I'm not going to use it I find it to be wasted space where I might want a another app that is useful and this app is definitely not a waste the space .
  • Great App, works perfectly. Aug 29, 2021

    By Annabelle 😱

The remote is really convenient to use when you can't locate your actual remote. I really like that you can adjust your picture settings from the app, but it doesn't work on Android 10 and above. I have to use my old Samsung tablet that's on Android 8 to get it to work. The app needs to be updated so that it will work with newer versions of Android.
  • Very good but TAKE THE 17+ RATING OFF!!!!! Jul 16, 2019

    By jacee d
I used to use this app literally every day because the remote was so useful! My roku tv at home is so finicky. It has a sweet spot that is hard to find and I have a shaky hand so it is also hard to keep consistent. But when I found this app it was a game changer. You don’t even have to aim the remote with this app. Private listening is also very useful. I like to have my tv loud, so late at night when I don’t want to disturb my parents watching tv, I can just turn on private listening and listen through my headphones. But with the latest update they added a 17+ rating. Which is super annoying. My mom has a restriction on my phone to where I can’t download 17+ apps. So thanks Apple. Now I have to have an app that is super bobo and doesn’t even have private listening. And btw, this app doesn’t have ads. LITERALLY EVERY OTHER APP ON THE APP STORE THAT IS A ROKU REMOTE HAS ADS. So not only is it super bobo, has no private listening, IT ALSO HAS ADS. Apple make this app 12+ or whatever it was before again!!!

Love the "remote" feature. We, like most families, lose remotes every day. Also, when you're using a search bar from any app, its AWESOME to use the keyboard from your phone to type in the search. Rather than using the directional pad on the remotes. Layout on the "Roku Channel" could use some spreading out and better category labels but, thats my only (minor) issue! Go Roku!
  • Roku channel TV bugs Feb 27, 2022

    By Z. Brown
Hello, have something to report, Roku channel crashes on the streaming stick after a few minutes of a movie, do not believe me, launch some thing and then wait a few minutes, your Channel will just stop working, and go all the way back to the menu where he would select your channel, it is very annoying, I hope this can be fixed in the next update on the streaming stick and, the following work just fine, main site, Apple app. These are solid, but the TV side needs to be tweaked just a little. I remember being able to watch a full movie on the thing, please fix it when you can thank you very much. Any update, I figured out something, this is all fine if you connect it all into the TV, but if you put it into the power stick I mean the plug, it goes back and does that thing I described. So I think this just might be my fault. :-) Anyway, sorry for wasting your time. Frown
  • Needs a new update! Mar 6, 2021

    By sexylegsdevie
I’m giving 3 stars because prior to the newest update, the app worked fine. Ever since the update, I can’t use it. The first night of update, I tried connecting to a tv as usual, and it froze on the device screen. I couldn’t click anything. So I refresh and try again, with the same result. So I uninstall and reinstall, and now none of my devices are showing up at all PLUS it’s still freezing. I have read 15+ reviews with other people with the same problem. I will impatiently wait for roku to fix this bug, then I’ll come back and edit my review. Update: once the new update was installed, the app stopped freezing. It didn’t find my devices like I hoped, but I used the manual connect option and it connected no problem. I’ve been connected to my TV’s since!

I honestly really live this app it’s so convenient when I lose my controller or it breaks or it gets washed I really all love this app but I really would like to have volume buttons on it so I don’t have to get up out of my bed or something just to change the volume I would really love to stay in my comfy spot that I just got one day I was very tired and I forgot sign up I am deaf and one ear so one day I got out of my bed to turn off my TV like turn it down and I totally forgot about that when I came back I got back in my bed I was so comfy ready go to sleep I turned on my TV and it was literally down to 15 for the volume and I cannot hear it I didn’t really want to get back up so I just left it there but I really wish this Apple iPad volume up and volume down button thank you
  • If it worked even half the time, it'd be a great app! Nov 9, 2020

    By Terrilee223
My issue with this app is that it needs to be on the same wifi network to work. Ok, shouldn't be a problem, right? Wrong. It takes some doing to establish a connection to any of the 3 Roku's we have, for some odd reason. So when I open the app & a message comes across the screen saying something like 'no device found, please connect to the same wifi network to connect to a device', I enter the menu to choose from the list but it refuses to connect, so much so that my phone offloaded the app for lack of use. I mean, I still gave 4 stars bc it really is a convenient app- the keyboard for typing in passwords is SO great! If it wasn't such a hassle connecting it I'd have went 5, it really is a great app (when it works as intended!).

I love this app because my sister is very annoying and hides the remote from me because we share a room and she knows I use it ALL the time if I don’t have the remote I will scream my head off because I’m am one of those people who watch Netflix non stop and she just either hid it or actually lost it she said she lost it but I think she has a plan to lock me in a room for like 30 mins and then watch it when she gets it out of the hiding spot so my other sister who is really nice told me about this app and it’s super handy because she lost her remote and if my other mean sister locks me in a room all the rooms in our house has a roku in our tv anyway and I know where all the remotes are in those rooms of our house so she now I can watch my Netflix👍🏼:)
  • Great easy to use, works every time Feb 10, 2022

    By Paco-in-chino
Downloaded the app to use when we couldn’t find the remote, now we have Roku on every Tv and we love it. App has great features and is very simple to use. To developers: the reason for the 4 star review is because I love the ability to use BT headphones connected to my phone, and then connected to the TV via the Roku app. Only thing wrong with this is that the audio no longer comes out the TV speakers when using it. For people who are slightly hard of hearing, or just want to be able to hear the audio a little louder and clearer when watching with other people you should have an option so that the TV audio doesn’t mute when connected to headphone mode. That would be an amazing feature to have.

  • Can’t prevent phone from auto lock? Feb 3, 2018

    By nicknames_r_stupid
One glaring omission from this app is that there is no option to prevent the screen from auto-locking. That seems like such an oversight of something so essential in a remote app. Imagine you have a physical remote that sleeps and may or may not reload when you want to use it. Behold Roku app. Turning off auto-lock for the entire device just to keep the remote open is really a bad and unsafe alternative. Unfortunately with all the great features this app provides (especially the swipe controls and keyboard) this app becomes completely useless because eventually you will find yourself taking the path of least resistance and just reach for the physical remote. Please please add an auto-lock prevention option. IOS has this capability and from experience it’s relatively minimal effort to implement this functionality. Also Roku doesn’t seem to have an email to suggest missing features, so I’m going to be pessimistic here and assume Roku probably won’t read this and this app will never get this option. I so hope I’m wrong because I really want to use this app 🖖.
  • Can be very frustrating at times Mar 12, 2019

    By Tiffany002
The app is a great alternative to using the remote, especially if you are someone like me who looses it every 5 seconds. I have the app on a setting to where i can turn my tv on through the app. A lot of the times the remote is not connected so it doesn’t turn on my tv. The main reason I have this app is to listen to the tv with my headphones. A lot of the times it gives me problems and it doesn’t always connect to my headphones or it will connect for a little while and then start glitching later. This app has a lot of problems and its so annoying when I turn on my tv expecting to use my phone and its not connected. I don’t understand why its not connected when i have an internet connection. And also when the app starts glitching is causes my tv to glitch and turn off. And sometimes my tv doesn’t work unless i get up and unplug it and plug it back up again. As i said before, this is a good app and is very convenient, but at the same time it can still use a lot of work in the meantime.
  • Note To App Developers Sep 20, 2020

    By BlueTurdsInWinter
Theoretically, a brilliant app. The reality of it is that this app in the year+ that I’ve been using it has upgraded many times, each time seeming to get more and more glitchy...and not really adding anything of great positive change to the app. I’m at the point now where about half the time neither ios device I use is able to connect to my Roku tv and almost always at least one is unable to connect. Yes. I know about unplugging the tv for a few minutes to reset it but it’s rather annoying when I’ve just prepared a meal and I’m sitting down to watch something and have to wait an extra 5 minutes while my food gets cold for the connection to reset. So here’s the message I’d send to the developers: The app, while the other features are cool, is designed to be A REMOTE. If it can’t even be used as a remote then YOU ARE FAILING AS DEVELOPERS OF THIS APP. Forget the extra nonsense until you take care of these bugs preventing us from connecting the remotes to our roku tvs. Thank you.

I love this app just for the fact I can plug in my headphones and use private listening. Since the last update it has not worked correctly. It's been buffering in and out of volume on the TV and the headphones and then will just go mute. I think there needs to be another update to fix bugs that I and other people have reported.
  • USED to be great Mar 17, 2022

    By O.Redd
I used to love this app. I mainly used it for the Private listening feature. I would use it all the time with Jabra wireless earbuds to watch movies and would have no problem. However, within the last month , when I connect to watch tv via Private Listening … the sound cuts out. It screeches and drops connectivity. I can’t go five minutes without the sound dropping and when I touch the Private Listening headphone icon to switch it back to tv sound …nothing happens. I tried it with a pair of Bose wireless earbuds and it does the same thing. No problem with the Bluetooth because I can listen to music on my phone via either pair of earbuds with no connectivity issues at all. App will show an error “Your Roku is not online proceed without connection ?” … while I’m literally watching the tv. No streaming issues. I finally tried a pair of wired earbuds …and it worked with no problem. Major issues with Private listening when connected to Bluetooth headphones. Please Fix !

Great before update. One of the main advantages to using the app (instead of the remote) is that it gives you options such as entering search terms with a keyboard, rather than with the frustrating "up,down, right, left" remote directional buttons). But they removed the blue "action" button and replaced it with text. (?) It is now FAR less precise, resulting in having to hit the 'go back' arrow more often to correct input errors. Worth it if only for the superior battery in your phone.

I love this app it has all kinds of amazing shows I couldn't find anywhere else. One of the best parts about this app(Besides being FREE!!) is very little commercials that only last a minute and a half instead of 7 minutes like cable t.v. The only thing I would like to see change is the loudness of the commercials it's twice as loud as the show, when they come on it's almost deafining I have to scramble for the remote to mute it before it wakes up the entire house. Please work on this. Thanks
  • Bluetooth flakey / loss of device connection Mar 26, 2022

    By bryan.cfii
I’ve been using the Roku app for about 2 months. All of the basic functions work which is great. My issue with the app is the Bluetooth functionality and the overalls app connection. The app seems to work for a time, or can work longer some days, but the app often will randomly drop signal for the headphones, lose my Roku sound bar and freeze up. I have to restart the phone, the headphones and the sound bar to get it to work again. A retry / reconnect on the sound bar never re-finds the sound bar. The aftermath of the app freeze on the phone and it’s connection with the Bluetooth headphones is what demands a phone reboot. I love the idea of the app and the potential. When it works, I love the functionality and option the listen and control our tv discretely as my wife is a night nurse with an opposite sleep schedule. I’d gladly do 5 stars if it wasn’t for all the disconnects resulting in hardware/software freezes.
  • Frustrating at times. Even after update still doesn’t work. Aug 7, 2021

    By KG U-Haul CSS

  • TCL Roku TV - Remote Apr 3, 2020

I use the remote on the app for private listening using my Bose Quiet Comfort II headphones. When it works it’s fantastic! Lately I’ve been having so many issues with it doing this 30 second countdown to wake my tv up out of “eco mode” for no reason at all. My tv is not in eco mode. I wait the 30 seconds for it to connect and it starts all over with the 30 second eco mode stuff. I get so frustrated. I’m a techy. I know my way around these issues by searching from solutions from others. Currently I’m turning Airplane Mode on and off to reestablish my WiFi connection. That seems to fix the issue for a little while, but come on. Why should anyone have to do this? I’ve had this tv for two years now and have always had this issue with the remote feature on the app, but it’s gotten so bad I felt I needed to leave a review. The app remote has also started not working when I try to turn my tv on. And yes, both my phone and tv are on the same WiFi network. Major frustration. Please fix this issue already!

Family room Hisense tv remote broke. Roku 2D box in bedroom remote wouldnt work on hisense got this app on my ipad and 2 iphones to recognize both devices at first. Sometimes connection has to be re established if i leave my house, today i had to shut down the other phone, which did not leave the house, for it to recognize the hisense, but the phone that left the house nothing works anymore, not even reinstalling app and manually imputing the ip address. They are signed into my roku account by email. My ipad so far isnt doing this. Shows anything free is junk. I had to take the phone off the network shut it off and reinstall the app every time i leave the house with my phone and it sometimes recognizes my tv after all of that. Its a pain. Nope didnt work this time says the tv in front of me isnt on the network, only the bedroom one i have to keep putting the name and location every time i reinstall too. My other phone is no lnger recognizing my tv either
  • APP functions stupidly Dec 6, 2018

Why bother to have a mobile app that you can’t use unless you connect with a fixed wireless? I tried to go into update my payment information for my new credit card. I can’t accomplish this because it will not connect and less it has Wi-Fi. We only use fixed secure Wi-Fi because of data security issues. I certainly don’t want to break this rule in order to go on this app to update my credit card information. This is a stupid design that they need to fix. Most of us have unlimited data and are not concerned about whether we have Wi-Fi. Also if I were using this app on a road trip with my kids I would want them to be able to look on their iPad whether or not we had access to reliable Wi-Fi. Stupid stupid stupid design. Any app to sign her that is this out of touch with the purpose of its application needs to be replaced. Roku needs to fix this or I suspect it’s going to be replaced with the mini market alternatives that have now developed including Apple Watch doesn’t have this problem.

  • The most frustrating remote ever Mar 10, 2020

    By Aaachhheheee
I’ve never written a review before in my life but this app has caused me so much frustration and anger that I feel I need to share. I lost my physical Roku remote, and have spend months looking for it. It’s no where to be found. So this app is my only hope of controlling the Roku. When I say that the remote disconnects at the most inconvenient times I am not kidding. Want to rewind a show for 10 seconds? Nope, the remote will freeze and you’ll be stuck rewinding your show to the beginning. Wanna turn down the volume of a unnecessary loud commercial? Can’t, remote needs 30 seconds to “wake up”. How about skip a intro on Netflix? Ahhh no no, the intro will be long over before you can even get the remote to connect to your tv, That you’re 2 feet away from. The frustration is unbearable I have torn my house up looking for my physical Roku remote. I can’t take this app anymore I wish the creators would look into getting rid of the “eco mode” because I surely never wanted my remote to take 30 seconds to turn on, every 5 seconds... it is horrible.
  • Useless app Feb 17, 2019

    By Mepoq
I am extremely disappointed in this app. When I first downloaded it and used it a couple of times, it seemed to work well. After that it took longer and longer for it to initialize. Obviously this is the worst thing you could have since you want to use it WHEN you want to use it. Now, it will NOT connect at all. My devices, iPad and iPhone will clearly show the Roku devices so it’s not a matter of the devices not being available. I’ve checked my signal several times and it shows it is STRONG. I even recommended it to a friend after the first couple uses and I am embarrassed that I did. You can still view stuff from the gallery item at the bottom, but I got it for the Remote feature. It just won’t connect. I did try some trouble shooting, but this is just NOT well designed and is garbage, as an app, as far as I’m concerned. Both my Roku devices work well, but this Roku app is pure crap. And after looking at a couple other alternatives shown in Apple App Store, they seem to have some major drawbacks, which I don’t want.

Like many others have said, the app doesn’t work at all. Everything is set correctly on my iPhone and the tv. It will NOT find my TV. Original Roku remote that came with the Sharp Roku tv has long been munched on by dog and then lost. For the most part, I can operate the tv with a sharp remote from a previous non-smartTv but there are certain things I can’t do without the Roku remote so it would be great if this app worked. Sometimes need to be able to have the asteric button to cancel a subscription easily. It’s a pain to have subscriptions tied to Roku period because when logging into my Roku account it seems I can never accurately locate my current subscriptions. And logging in to the subscription platform itself doesn’t work because it’s not a normal subscription and tied to Roku. The only good way I found to cancel previously was to get this app, but connectivity was an issue and stopped working. Deleted the app and redownloaded and it’s never found my tv since. Smh.

By it said my penis was to long
i lost my remote to my Roku and downloaded this app thinking it was gonna be a lifesaver but it's not!! this app decides it’s gonna disconnect itself and say my TVs not found on my network when every other device is working properly (including my tv)?!! i’ve downloaded and uninstalled this app multiple times because it really just gives me a headache with all its inconvenient problems... the disconnecting is the biggest one for me, but not only that it also connects to my neighbor's tv which isn't even connected to the same network?!?! im willing to try it again because it seems like a trustworthy app but the running back and forth from my tv and bed is getting ridiculous just trying to get it to work!! this may be just me and i can be held accountable for these problems but my tv is on and the app still says my tv isn't connected to my Internet!? this is just my experience and it may not be the app itself but it really just ticks me off!!!

When have this app start charging ?? One month it charges me $2.99 && another month it charged me $5.34 . Not sure why it’s charging me but I rather not download an remote app that I would have to pay for . Rather not do && the fact that it’s charging my card that I see no records of on Roku that I filled or even made a purchase on the app is ridiculous. Yes it was a great app before it start charging me. The fact this app still charging me but I have NO ACCOUNT with them but yet they charging my card (unauthorized) . I’ve contact my card company && they told me to contact Roku && haven’t seen where I could contact nor email them or even a toll- free number . This is sad you have people hacking your card just from downloading an app . Never again . Today this app is still trying to charge me the fact I’ve tried to reach out to Roku they still won’t or haven’t solve my problem there’s no number to contact them very unprofessional. Where is the on chat agent

I’ve been using the Roku app in lieu of my remote for a little while because my remote often does exactly nothing if it is not held at a very particular angle. It had been working fine, and could even wake or put my tv to sleep. Today, all of a sudden it couldn’t wake my tv. I used my remote to turn it on instead, but the app still couldn’t connect to it afterwards. I tried forgetting the device, checking my wifi, turning my tv on and off, etc. Nothing worked. I visited the “Help” section of the app, to find literally zero steps to follow in the event that my app refuses to recognize my tv. The “Troubleshooting” tips offered me nothing that my tiny little pea-brain hadn’t already thought of. I even tried typing my Roku’s IP address into the manual connection outlet. Nothing. There was no portal to talk with any kind of tech support at all, let alone report that my app developed amnesia, so I guess I’ll just delete the app🥳💕 Thanks, Roku<3

I’ve used this for a little over a month and while I was selecting channeled, the remote stopped working. I did all the things it said online to do. Nada. Unplug, plug back in. Nada. New batteries, per online instructions. Nada. The light to pair the IR won’t flash. There is no light when I push the power button. The remote is suddenly completely non-responsive. Downloaded the app because it said that’s a way to get around a non-working remote. The app won’t connect to the Roku...yet I even see the Roku on my connections. It’s active and working, I’m connected to the same WiFi...nada. I was super in love with it until the remote stopped working out if the blitz. I didn’t drop it or anything - I was literally using it when it went dead. If I can’t control the Roku, I can’t use the Roku...even though it’s obvious that the only problem is the remote. And of course I didn’t pay for the warranty. Stuff should work for more than a month. I couldn’t be more disappointed.
