  • Awesome Game! Plays Great! Dec 23, 2015

    By Zglouie
Great game.. I have the tabletop version, but had trouble understanding the rules. I Waited a few months til the app went on sale for 99 cents. I bought the app to teach myself the rules. It took a few times going thru tutorial, playing the game and reading the rules in the App, but I was able to figure it out. Fun game, really love the mechanics... Point collecting, area control, 2different types of head to head combat, can really swing the game... Plus being able to instigate wars between your opponents is an interesting twist I haven't seen before. The game is pretty stable on both my ipad 2 and ipad 3. The interface works well enough.. There are 3 minor issues... First, the rematch function doesn't work, it just hangs there, so after you hit rematch, you still have to go back to the main menu and replay the same game to get it to restart. Second, there's like 3 pages of game save slots, I have no idea why you would ever need that many.. Third, the animation to display the final scoring is slow.. I guess it's supposed to be dramatic, but it's just slow... Still an Awesome game... my new favorites iPad board game implementation. Can't wait to try my tabletop version with my friends now...

  • Needs a couple of interface changes Jan 18, 2014

This is a great game, don't get me wrong. It works great on both iPad and iPhone/iPod touch. So good in fact that you'll be playing it over and over. Then you'll start to notice the interface issues. Then you'll get annoyed by them. Then you'll start to hate them. 1) takes 10 seconds at the end of the game just to see the scores. The rest of the game moves super fast, but not this part. Someone thought it would be fun to be suspenseful, but it's really a huge waste of time. If you play 60 games, and you will easily, you'll have lost 10 minutes of your life. 2) Someone thought it would be worthwhile to save every game you complete automatically. So unless you want to waste time scrolling through endless pages of finished games, you'll have to delete the game every time you finish it. Another waste of time. 3) the "rematch" button doesn't work. It starts a new game but never lets you play. 4) lastly, on iPhone/iPod touch, when it's not your turn you can't see your tiles or scores. Would be nice to have this option in a single player game so you can plan your turn while the computer plays. It's a 5-star game, but only a 3-star interface. A couple of bug fixes would literally make this perfect.

You place tiles on a board like scrabble. While the board is always the same you get different tiles each game to start and how they a played quickly makes each game different. Easy to learn' but hard to master much like a game of checkers. Tutorial was very helpful in learning how to play. Pros: Easy to pick up and play A game only takes about 10 minutes to play max Different game each time Lots of customization for how the game plays Cons: There are only a limited number of tiles (four types). I see the computer players all starting with the same initial set of moves. This makes the starting the games pretty boring. There is only one game board. You can purchase an additional board for more $. Making a board can not be that hard. We should get a few more board options because that might seriously change the game up. When you replay a game you lost the game crashes. You have to exit to the main menu and start over to play another game.

The controls and graphics are really too basic especially for today’s standards. Nothing really feels intuitive as an iOS game. The game is a boardgame so you can still pretty well play it, but it is not a free or even relatively cheap game. The AI is good enough and it can be that this was the difficult part to achieve. That is why i give it 3 stars overall. I beat it maybe 70% of the times with 4 players but that is still a fair amount of time considering AIs wouldn’t be as advanced as chess for example and that comes from a person playing strategic games all their life. Online I never find players and the system is not meant for it, you cannot see who is available and the list goes on. Do not recommend if you want human players.

The app hasn't been updated recently, but apparently the developers are still responsive because they added a note to the app page explaining how to get around the current bug. Hopefully they will be releasing a fix soon, but I'm happy to be able to get back to my game. Note: you have to have screen lock off for the workaround to work.

  • I bet it would be fantastic Dec 1, 2014

I've played the board version of this and I loved it. An app version? Fantastic I should buy it! I did and when I loaded it up on my iPhone 6 (iOS 8) nothing but a black screen and music greet me. I can't play the game. I assume something to do with the newest iOS has to be the problem because on the developers website it says "up to date on all iOS 5 devices". So I'm guessing these developers aren't interested in keeping this app updated. If they fix this and prove me wrong I'll take this review down, but if you're reading this it means that they have still not fixed the problem.

  • Great game. Poor implementation. Mar 13, 2014

    By Karma Adjuster
The game itself is great, but the implementation of it on the iOS is terrible. Load times are slow for everything. Things that look like buttons are not. The location of where you find accept/cancel buttons changes on every screen and overlay. And as someone else has already mentioned, the long drawn out display of the final scores is just a frustrating waste of time. By all means get this game, but be prepared for the UI to test your patience.

  • Great game Jan 8, 2014

This game is very interesting, I have almost all of knizias games and I think this is one of the best for sure. It is a little more complicated than most knizia games, but still didn't take to long to learn. The online runs well, have only noticed one bug. Sometimes when you hit the undo button it will take the game back a couple of turns. This does not happen very often though.

  • Great if it worked properly Oct 22, 2013

    By Dphipps33
I love this game on the iPhone. The major problem is that there are still a lot of glitches. Multiple times the AI is able to place a single king and instantly all of my tiles count towards his total and I loose my large kingdom. It freezes a lot when fighting or restarting. If they fix the glitches it would be a 5 star.

Bought here to try game before I bought the table top version. Tutorial was very helpful. Game has so many twists. Planning gets you in trouble because it has a very good chance not to be there by your turn. Computer players can be ruthless even on easy setting which melds nicely with the personality of my normal gaming group.

  • Wonderful translation of the board game Sep 17, 2013

Like many iOS versions of board games, this one is provides the experience of the original cardboard version while providing a lot of convenience such as portability, faster play, and playing against AIs. If you enjoy the cardboard version, this will give you your fix.

  • Turn-based strategy Jul 31, 2013

I've been playing as many of the ios board games as I can afford. I like this one because of the relative simplicity of the rules. Some of the other tutorials drag on and still manage to leave you confused about gameplay and strategy; T&E does a better job there. Maybe a bit abstract for fans of thematic games, but lots of strategic depth with minimal mechanics. You could call it 'elegant'.

  • Good game Aug 1, 2014

Like the boardgame, it takes a bit to get used to, very strategic. My only complaint (thus costing the 5th star) are the pop up ads (only in the launch screen true) for the other games (which I have already have & love). I live for boardgames & would love to see more (new ones) instead of being taunted with repeats I already own.

The actual game is fantastic, and most of the time the game on iPad is easy. But the bugs are a little wonky, and need to be fixed before this deserves a full 5 stars. Game always stalls when you do a rematch. Other moments stall at times too. But for the most part, it's fun, and the pros definitely out way the cons.

I have played this many times and every game I get extremely statistically unlikely draws of the color chits. For example one game I drew 15 consecutive black chits to start the game. I had two temples before anyone else, one black and blue, the other black and red. I lost them to attacks very fast cause I had no other colors to defend them. I win each game I guess correctly which number I won’t draw until I am leading point wise in my points. So if I build the correct temple to cover the color I will never draw, then I can win. It’s a challenge, but it won’t help you win face to face cause you get bad habits.

  • Broken for 3 years Oct 4, 2019

I agree... 5-star game stuck behind 3-star bugs. This game has been broken on my iPad for over three years and although I still enjoy playing it I feel that these bugs have gone on long enough. (Broken Rematch Button, dragging tiles triggers recent apps, skipping scoring freezes game). Hopefully dissuading new buyers from purchasing it will get the developers attention that it's in serious need of attention these bugs and has been for a long time
