Excellent news stories , both national & world coverage, scientific news & human interest stories. Our entire family of 3 generations share our views of news & interest stories covered on PBS Newshour often.
  • Fantastic content hampered by an underwhelming app Aug 17, 2020

PBS NewsHour continuously delivers reliable, captivating, and informative articles. When I hear complaints from my friends about the ever-increasing biases and misreporting in the media, I point to PBS NewsHour. It’s just a shame that such fantastic writing is being delivered in an outdated app. According to the App Store, this app hasn’t been updated for over three years, and it shows. There are simple quality of life things, like the inability to swipe to go back like you can in other apps or the inconsistent notification alerts, to the more frustrating, like the occasional crashes when reading an article. While I can overlook these issues because of the wonderful content this app provides, the flaws with the PBS NewsHour app will only accentuate with time.

I just got a notification for live video, and "no data" error page appears. Feed doesn't update; I'm only able to read nearly week-old stories. The video side seems to work, (but then so does the YouTube channel). I really want to like this app, but that's the entire reason it's on my phone. :/

PBS News App worked for years. Suddenly, today, I get blue screen saying the app is disabled. I did not disable it. Also, looking at this app in, "Settings," it does not show that it has been disabled Uninstalling an re-installing app has app asking, insisting, upon access to any and all facets of this device - everything on your - my - computer. That is neither necessary nor is it at all appropriate, sine all I want is the PBS News. No way. OK then, screw the PBS News App.

Liked it until I attempted to get full screen with a video segment. I touched the full screen icon (on my Samsung Galaxy J3 Luna Pro)and the screen went black and, despite my many attempts, same thing each time. So... the app is OK unless you want to expand video play to full screen. Hence my rating at 3 stars. Bummer. Please fix.

For the best news show on broadcast TV to have the worst ever streaming app is disappointing, to say the least! It doesn't work well on Android TV (Mi Box), my Samsung phone, or on a Chromebook (Android apps). Uninstalled. Hopefully it will get better.

  • Inconsistent presentation of videos Jun 8, 2017

On iPhone 7 with latest updates installed, in one section of the app, I can view primary news video (presidential press statement)- but not supplied in context with commentary etc. In the main video section of the app, where there are segments from the broadcast, I get an error that there is no player installed, and can't view. Also disappointing is the fact I can't just find links to play the sound-only broadcast- I didn't actually care about video. Uninstalling after first use because it's clear the app developers have no interest in maintaining this app. Last update in 2016!!!! Unprofessional

This App wants permission to access everything on your phone, pictures, camera, contacts, etc. I denied all permission except storage. Now every time I try to read an article a popup asks for permission to access offline items. What the hell PBS! Too invasive!

  • Can’t imagine why no iPad app Jan 7, 2019

The fact that there’s a PBS app is good, I guess. But it’s just not a great app, even on the phone. And watching an iPhone app on an iPad, in 2019, seems just silly. What’s going on here? Also, I can’t even get the episode I want to watch to load half the time; it just sits there spinning. When I finally do get it to load, there’s no sound. This is really kind of shocking and, I should think, embarrassing for you. I see reviews from over a year ago calling out some of these issues and I’m not really sure what could be going on over there that these things would not be addressed.

It could be a great app. Their news coverage is excellent. However the app disappoints in many ways. 1. It crashes way too often. 2. There is no log-in mechanism. So you cannot save, send, not share articles of interest. Whether they make these improvements for members as a way to encourage donations. But it’s just lacking right now.

Excellent news coverage. Haven't experienced any of the technical difficulties I've read about in reviews in the last three weeks.

I’m a 21 yr old college student studying poli-sci, and this program is the last vestige of analytical and un-editorialized journalism. If more Americans watched this program, political polarization would be halved immediately.

You can choose deny for location and the app still works; an earlier person's 1 star rating I think did not try this when he gave it a low star rating. App has worked very well and as another person stated I appreciate the more balanced moderate reporting instead of giving opinions like so many of the cable stations do.

Great app. But more importantly, great reporting and journalism. In a world where biased news is prominent, unbiased sources like PBS are essential. Keep up the unbiased reporting and the good work on this app!

Love the news content.. Etc. except the app crashes after reading the first story every time. Annoying at the very least. Please fix!

  • Needs and update Jan 14, 2020

The content on here is great and very unbiased but, the outdated app makes it very hard to take in. The last software update this app had was 3 years ago and it’s easy to tell because it doesn’t fit modern phones. The app is slow and buggy and just needs some work.

The app was working great until yesterday. It says it has been marked inactive and now it won't function at all. It seems that the app may need updated to work with Android! I use this app daily, so hopefully this gets worked out, as I see I'm not alone in this issue.

I’ve used this app for a long time. But for the last few months it won’t load the data. Deleted and reloaded it more times than I can count. It’s amazing to me that an organization like The NewsHour would have such a crappy app. Spend some money, you cheapskates!

  • Not for iPad! Ridiculous! Aug 27, 2018

    By AnneGMcWilliams
I have the PBS Newshour app on my iPhone. I enjoy the headlines feature, presenting breaking news every day. BUT— why isn’t this available for iPad? The closest app for the PBS Newshour on iPad is the PBS Video, but it only has the previous evening’s program and related programs. The iPad is the perfect platform for breaking news stories and video. I realize iPhones are more prevalent, but the format is too small for enjoyment. I hope PBS will rethink the development goals to include breaking news on the iPad format.

  • UPDATED - Great news App but can someone tell me why they haven’t fixed their audio? Jul 28, 2018

    By True Man of Steel
This app is really good for getting what’s important in the news without much of a bias toward either side. HOWEVER, they really need to fix their audio for videos they link in the app. It amazes me that they haven’t done so yet! Updated to 1 star because it’s really bothering me that they haven’t fixed the sound one videos yet. What’s the point?!? Uninstalling and looking elsewhere
