If you are only interested in making friends and not dating, then you’ll want to stay clear from the 10s of dating apps out there. With Patook, you can easily meet people that share your interests. It is also strictly for friendships, as users who flirt are banned automatically.

Although many online services try hard to provide a pure platonic experience, they don't as good of a job. On Patook, if someone is caught flirting, they get banned so you can be sure there will be less unpleasant situations.

Why is it that it's so hard to find someone who just wants to be friends? It seems like out of 10 people online, maybe 9 of them want something more than friendship. Patook is different - it's strictly an app for finding friends online.

So far it's been great only thing is everytime I switch devices it shows my notifications differently. Like somethings will be missing but my chats are all the same and it seems like it never recognizes my password. Still I give it 5 stars because its awesome

I owe this app a debt of gratitude for my mental health. I suffer from loneliness a great deal especially since the pandemic. Since downloading this app I've been able to deal with it a lot better. I wish there were more people close by to me as I've only been able to meet one in person due to distance, but even the conversations I'm able to have with those a long distance away can really help my mood.

Tried this a while back, was a little buggy then, seems to mostly work now. But filtering in list view, keeps showing people you dismissed when refresh. A great idea, unfortunately, nobody's using it. Searched for age 21-110 of any gender, broadest possible matching and there's only one active user in 50 miles. When I tried it a few years back, there were no active users. That's really the only problem: lack of users (though, I live in deep south Alabama, so... maybe better in metro areas?)

  • Best friend app yet! May 27, 2019

I just moved out of state so I’ve been trying different apps to meet people. Patook is by far the best. I love how detailed the personality and preference sections are. It even has a questionnaire to fill out that helps match you with people based on compatibility points! I only wish there were more users, but that’s not Patooks fault. It feels like a dating app but for friendships; which is great bc as an adult I don’t have the time to weed out massive amounts of people who could potentially be compatible. I love seeing, right off the bat, if I’ll get along with a person or not. Oh and one of the best parts is it prevents any unwanted flirting and recognizes words that could be inappropriate in messages and refuses to send them. Overall, this is a really awesome app.

One word: Patience. This is a friendship app not a dating app! For some reason in today’s society that means less traffic! Lol. This idea of an app for friendship is relatively new! Not a million people on the app in neighboring cities so you have to be patient, however every week new people sign up and every once in a while people with similar interest join! I will say, the people you have mutual hobbies with always seem pretty awesome! Also you can’t send or receive a phone number until Patook decides you and the other party have developed rapporteur which is really cool and annoying at the same time! Anyway. I recommend you try the app, more effective than any others out there, oh and I hope Patook can market itself to more potential users while maintaining its integrity!

It’s great if you don’t like getting hit on. I haven’t been disrespected like on a lot of other chatting apps. There just doesn’t seem to be a lot of people on there yet, maybe. But if you go through enough matches, you’re bound to find someone that wants to talk! And of course I think it’s supposed to be for people just looking for casual conversations, friends, platonic friendships. It’s not a hookup app. And for that I’m thankful that there is an app out there like this. It’s really the only one I’ve used that isn’t basically just a hookup app. The level of respect is outstanding and I look forward to new friendships & conversations! Thank you for this app.

Profiles and matching criteria are really in-depth, so I feel certain I'll get along with people. It has a few issues though, like when I try and add a pic to my profile. Users are very shy or ignore their notifications, so people with similar interests don't even like me back despite notifications telling you when someone visits your profile. You can still message, but it's anxiety-inducing when they haven't indicated they approve of you back.
  • Good concept Jan 16, 2019

    By Lanedorsdanb
I like the idea of this app since I'm not looking to date anyone right now and every other site is a dating site even if it specifies it's a place to just meet people. However, I don't know if there's just not a lot of people in my state on here but I have the app trying to find people near me and so it gives me people all from the state next to me, which really isn't near me. I did try to reach out to a couple people who viewed my profile and seemingly rejected me because I got no match or response from them. I'm guessing it's because they want to meet people from their state. I wouldn't mind having an internet long distance friend but I suppose in-person friendships can be more meaningful so I can't say I blame them. Maybe I'll give it some more time. Who knows, my next best friend could be on here.
  • Chat msgs not being sent? Nov 7, 2018

    By Joy Creative
Great concept. Definitely beneficial with where I'm at right now - meeting new people and forming meaningful relationships. I'm recently divorced and my world has been flipped as far as relationships, so finding this app is perfect timing (for finding friends ONLY...no way am I trying to get into something rn after going through a divorce). The only thing, I think I'm flagged or something. Everything seemed fine for the first week or so and then it seemed like the chat msgs I was sending weren't going thru. Instead of the double check, which indicates the other person read your msg, all of my chats just have the single check which just indicates it was sent and that the other person doesn't have notifications on. But somethings wrong because I've sent maybe 10 chat msgs to new people and none have read them or viewed my profile. So it seems I have been flagged. I'm a guy and I've mostly msg'd women - it seems theres more women than men on the app, and honestly, I've only come across a handful of dudes who have interesting profiles. I was raised by a tribe of women and have 5 sisters so I'm very comfortable having women friends. But maybe I'm blocked because I'm a male who's mostly reached out to females. Patook, any help with this issue?
  • Fake notifications Sep 19, 2021

    By Gaspatchosoup
As an update to fake notifications. I get one for this person just joined Patook near you say hi. I open the app by the notification and it takes me right to my list and not the persons profile or a list of new people. I don’t think you can fail any harder than you have. It’s time to find a new job or just actually start working at Patook instead of sitting on your hands. If there’s one thing I hate more than apps that do notification after notification it’s apps that send fake notifications. I always get your profile has been viewed by an amount of people and when I open the app it’s nowhere near the number it told me if at all. Just got one that a discussion started near me and open the app and guess what. No new discussion near me. This app is like the desperate person trying to get their friends to notice them. I try to use this app to make friends but all these false notifications are making it so I delete this crap of an app.

They pretty much admit that a bot determines if you flirt or not, and can make mistakes (naturally), but even if it is a mistake and you appeal to be un-banned, they will refuse to help. Trash policies, especially with the hypocritical asking of my sexual orientation which shouldn't matter if it's just for friends. That, and hardly anyone is online. Only talked to one person and I was the one making all the effort in the conversation. Waste of time; do not install.
  • It’s pretty good, only... Nov 8, 2018

    By Little Ninjagal
I was happily using it, and making friends, but there’s a little too much restrictions. My account also seemingly got deleted or something, and I don’t understand what I did wrong. It did say that they have the right to delete or hide account without notifying the user, but I thats a bit of a weird system. How are we supposed to know what we did wrong, if you don’t tell us? It’s very inconvenient when it also seems like I’m ignoring the new potential friends I was talking to. I’m trying to get my account verified again, but it’s been days, and nothing has changed. I’m so frustrated, there is no way to tell the people I was talking to that I’m not ignoring them. There’s also no swearing on the app, and honestly, many people swear now a days. This is honestly minor compared to my account being hidden with me being notified of it, it was only when one of my friend on Patook send me a text message on the phone to tell me did I realize something was wrong.

Hard pass. This friend app is very similar to dating apps, in which either no one replies or barely uses it. The only pro of this app is that it's completely free to use. Verification is a complete joke. To make things worse, it will auto delete your conversations and block you if it suspects any messages that go against the rules. It's all automated so you can't control anything. If you are serious about meeting someone, you'll have better luck IRL. Update: They now enforce permanent bans 👎👎
  • Great Concept, Bad App Mgmt. Jun 3, 2018

    By Dann8874
I really like the concept of Patook, you’re able to go and meet new people for platonic friendship and that’s awesome. The problem I’ve experienced is that it’s completely automated and “flags” you for what the computer considers to be potentially flirty or inappropriate words, when in fact nothing has occurred. There’s also the sudden disappearance of conversations and the profile of the person you’ve been talking too, only to have them reappear 1-2 days later, all without warning or explanation from Patook. People are left thinking you’ve deleted them and no longer want to be friends. Clicking “help” or “contact support” is absolutely useless because again it’s all automated and you get preset computer generated responses. I tried emailing, but that also leads to zero response, not even an automated one. The running of this app is poorly done.

This app's "servers" go down almost every night, which prevents you from using it. It also deletes platonic, harmless conversations because the screening on chats is so outrageously high. So if you actually find a friend, you need to take the conversation off the app asap otherwise you may never get to talk to them again since their entire profile is removed.

Terrible. The terms of use treat adults like errant children, and the app uneccessarily polices chat words. Then it entirely deleted (like, disappeared) a great platonic chat I was having. We eventually caught up with one another online, but we thought we'd been ghosted. Talk about spreading ill will. This was the second chance I gave Patook. There won't be a third.
  • Disappointing Jan 20, 2020

    By Sammnyah
I was really excited about this! I spent a lot of time setting up my profile and have been using this for a few days. I’ve gotten no emails or notifications of any kind. From what I can tell, my profile is only available for viewing between midnight and 4am as I only get views during that time. My messages must not be going through because even mutual matches who are online don’t respond. And of course, the only customer service is a robot that doesn’t understand my question. I guess I should have been tipped off by the fact that the app hasn’t been updated in 6 months. Will keep the app for a bit longer in case some of my messages decide to go through or it starts to function properly. In the meantime, will be trying a different app. Disappointed in the amount of time I’ve wasted on this.

So I've meet some people but I'm not able to send pictures because the verification doesn't work. I've sent my picture to get verified multiple time and nothing it's been over 2 months. I even email them through the app and didn't get a response. Which sucks cause I need to share pictures of my cat!!!!?

I absolutely love this app. I’ve tried a few other friend apps and they don’t really customize the type of people that you’re looking for. This app lets you choose what religion you’re more likely to get along with and how high/low maintenance you would like your friend to be. And that’s just the surface. This platform really allows you to think about what you’re looking for and gives you the room to put in the work if you’re really serious (the bio has no limit!!!!!!). I believe that you are who your friends are and this app really helps me weed out people that I absolutely KNOW I wouldn’t click with. TRY IT!!!!

I love the idea of this app so much. As someone who is pretty much asexual, it's so nice to have a friending app instead of a dating app to meet new people. The only downside is it's entirely barren where I live, so I don't actually end up using it. But still, I'm glad it exists.
  • The App Our Lonely Generation Has Been Waiting For Sep 1, 2019

    By Vanessa Murray
I really like this app. Here’s a few solid reasons why. 1. Even in a smaller city I have still been able to meet really cool friends. 2. I haven’t run into any creeps even with my settings open to everybody. 3. Seriously, can we tell the world about this so judgey people who are “just looking for friends” on TINDER a hookup app can know that Patook will fit their needs better? 4. You can set it up as a swipe system or a browse system. 5. The profile information you fill out is thorough without being overbearing. 6. You can assign points to characteristics of potentiometer friend matches. For example, if you’re sober, you can have your algorithm say that someone who drinks frequently would be less of a match for you. 7. App colors are great. Yes this matters. 8. I’ve told multiple friends about this app and they were surprised and excited. So when you join (which you should) tell a bunch of people! This is the app that are lonely online generation has been waiting for.

Great app for making new friends from next door to all over the world! The point system is really helpful for finding potential friends with whom I have a lot in common. It gives me the option to make match screening as detailed, selective and personal as I want. This encourages more real connections. The personal conversation starter messages and suggestions make initiating conversation less awkward. The policies, verification process, app moderation, user privacy preferences are helpful. The sign up process is easy and doesn't require a facebook account. Responses from the app developer have been quick and effective. The app works smoothly.

I recently made my first meetup via Patook. It offers room to provide as much or as little information about yourself as you want. It’s up to each user what to share with conversational partners. The userbase is generally introverted for reasons one would expect, although there appear to be exceptions. If you want to maintain a conversation, it might be up to you to keep asking (appropriate) questions and approach the other person until they either feel comfortable with you or discontinue contact purposely or otherwise. No biggie either way. Userbase is sizable. Move on to the next person. I take a star off because it’s needlessly complex. It provides local chatter like YikYak, swiping like Tinder, and freemium currency like... a lot of apps, and what the user ends up with due to this is a bunch of buttons obscuring the app’s simple primary function: look at profiles, message people, get to know each other. To the developers, I would suggest a little streamlining of the app and tweaking of the monetization methods, but I congratulate you on making my favorite app so far for simply finding friends.

I live in a somewhat rural area in the deep south, & have trouble connecting w/others in my city. I'm a 3rd year uni student, so being able to chat online, & make personal connections w/individuals that have similar interests with me is wonderful. I have found so many genuine individuals who are so fun to talk with & get to know, & I'm very thankful for the opportunity this app provides for me to get to know these people!! I also especially love the 100% platonic relationship feature. TLDR; This is a wonderful app, i would 9/10 recommend using it. If nothing else, download it for yourself & try it for 3 - 6 days :)

I do love this app. However, I don't recommend to everyone just yet because: 1) it's very buggy still. I wouldn't feel comfortable calling it beta, but thats just my experience so far (Android Pie). 2) the app uses AI flirt detection and hard bans. AI isn't necessarily going to be accurate. That means people are going to be banned unjustly, with no way to get back in... I do think the strict moderation is a virtue for keeping the app flirt-free. But you have to balance both sides.

This app is a friends only app. No slime balls here lol You'll need to create a profile, reach out, and not become discouraged if one or two people don’t return a message. I’ve only been using it for a few days but so far so good. I was happy to see there are “mature “ people on here. So many apps are just geared to young adults or dating. We can’t help getting older but we don’t have to do it alone! This app is one step you can take to enlarging or starting a circle of friends. Have Fun! Say Hi! God Bless :)

This app has a few things that need to be smoothed out still. First, if you change your results for the questionnaire the point system will keep all your old answers. So now the point system is messed up for you, if you wanted to change something you still have the same old filters. This is clearly a glitch. Second, there is no way to filter out people that speak a completely different language than you, effectively rendering them being a match as pointless because if you tried to talk you couldn’t anyway! Yet my matches are spammed with people I can’t even talk to. I’ve found maybe two people so far I could connect with, and some nearby, but overall this app still needs some work.

So I’ve been successfully using Patook now for about 2 weeks. Have had several chats with others, but when I launched the app this morning suddenly it is not available in my state or country even though I’ve been using it for 2 weeks? I have not been flagged (at least that I am aware of) and have no warnings or anything. I will try to uninstall and reinstall to see if that fixes it. Even if it doesn’t the fact that it just randomly flakes if not cool. Edit: So uninstalling and reinstalling didn’t work but I was able to log in to the website from my computer. Just ended up deleting the old profile and creating a new one. The app itself is really nice and fun to meet new people. I’m at least bumping my score up to a 3 Star.

It's a fine way to find people, but matches (and your conversations with them) disappear sometimes. It looks like their profiles and your communications have been deleted, but it's just an app glitch. My husband and I added each other for fun, and as I was going to respond to a message from someone else, I found their profile was gone and all of our correspondence. I checked and my husband had "ghosted" too--so we know it's not the potential friends uninstalling, it's just the app.

Potential It's in the early stages clearly but there is so much room for development. It's currently just one note. Look at profiles and try to match but after you've run out of people it's just a dead app. Add more features. Chats. Groups. It's truly lacking that and feels unfinished. And also a little glitchy. Also, there are picture rules which is ok but a B&W pic isn't allowed, really? Great concept though. Hope it develops more before it dies.

It's okay. I made an irl friendship, so it DID do its job- although it took quite a bit of time. It seems to be a reoccurring issue with this app with inactive accounts (ghost accounts). They have account color indications with the info on the top left (?) part of the screen when you press the question mark. What that does is it'll tell you how active they are. Many of them are months inactive. Another thing, you might as well not verify your account, they don't do squat to verify you. They make you take a picture with; you, you holding a paper with patook saying, "I will never flirt on patook," (if I'm not wrong), and a dollar of your countries currency. All that physical info for this app, and they don't verify you? WHERE is this picture going? I went to find where I could find support, and the apps two main ways to help people is through an app bot that doesn't help you 70% of the time and an app "technical support" area which is just as unhelpful. I've expressed my concerns VERY clearly on their "technical support" area, even made a followup when I got no answer the first time! Not happy with this app. I'm glad I was able to make a friend, at least. This app really needs better changes if it expects any more users.

  • Great Concept, Bad App Mgmt. Jun 3, 2018

  • Fake notifications Sep 19, 2021

Nov 8, 2018

  • Broken Nov 1, 2018

    By Wreshles
I have had the app for weeks, created a well thought-out profile with several pictures, and messaged several users only to never have a reply or even one person visit my profile. I then read countless reviews of others having the same issue where the app blocks them due to poorly scripted AI algorithms, which is actually just poorly scripted VI, where it blocks random people for a myriad of reasons that are unbeknownst to the user. I even had a friend of mine create an account where they put similar interests as me and I subsequently messaged them and they never got my message. This only further proves how fundamentally broken the app is. So if you aren’t getting responses rest assured, it’s most likely not you. I’ve reached out to Patook support nearly a week ago and have yet to receive a response. I will update this review when/if they ever respond and if they fix their app.
  • Great idea, terrible execution May 2, 2020

After being shown the app by my ex-husband is quickly signed up, excited to make friends without fear of romantic overtures. Within two days my account was frozen without so much as a notification from the admin people. Others just reported my messages having disappeared and a sca of their FAQ let me know that this likely means they suspected me of flirting... Which I most certainly hadn't even had time to do had I been inclined. Likely, this was based on a joke my ex made when messaging me about refraining from flirting with him, meaning the cat censors are say over-sensitive and the level of privacy makes it hugely unappealing. At the very least have the courtesy to let people know you deactivated their account, don't let them sit around like idiots waiting for messagss. 0 stars, seriously.
