  • Useful on iPhone, annoying in iPad Oct 17, 2020

So, I love O365 and I use it for work nearly every day. While I’m a fan of the office app on my phone and find it easy to find things I’m looking for (or have opened recently), i can’t help but feel rather annoyed at the “mobile version” of the app on the iPad. I find myself daily checking the App Store for updates and looking for an update for iPad. If this app had a meaningful iPad user interface (that is, using the ENTIRE SCREEN), then this app would get 5 stars for me. Let’s get that iPad update!

I like the idea of a all in one productivity app, however this just doesn’t work for me for a couple of reasons. Number one is the horrible built in Lens scanner. I had Lens before and quickly moved away from it once I discovered Evernote’s Scannable. I scan a lot of documents for work and work a lot with PDF’s so having a well performing scanner is essential for me and Lens simply doesn’t work well enough. I had hoped it had been upgraded for this app and would perform better but it’s the same as the stand alone version. The other PDF related problem is the lack of ability to mark up a PDF. Yes you can sign a document but I often need to add text, boxes or arrows to a PDF and those functions are not available here. The other major downfall is the lack of iPad support. I work a lot on my iPad and need the tools I use to be available there as well. I could see this maybe becoming a great all in one tool in the future with some tweaks but for now I’ll stick with Evernote, Scannable, Docs and Pages.

I have been happy with Microsoft Office since the beginning. If you've never used your own licensed account for a version of MS Office, it seamlessly integrates with all platforms and devices. Not all the MS Office for Mac (2019) / PC apps are available for Online version, particularly MS Access (DataBase) app. You can obtain FREE Microsoft account, no matter whom your email provider is, worldwide and work with ToDo Lists, the MS Teams and videocalls via Skype (works with landline phones)

I love using office apps on my ipad. I think they are well designed. And i love using office on my phone once it incorporated the other apps (word, excel, ppt). So naturally I was really excited when the ipad version of office was updated to include the actual apps. But there is one major flaw. It doesn’t support multiple instances yet. You cannot (at the moment) open office more than once. You can do side by side with a different app, but you cannot but office side by side with office. So if you want to use only office, you cannot look at a word document and an excel file. You can’t have 2 word documents side by side. You will need to use something else to accomplish this. Thankfully, the individual office apps (word, excel, ppt) don’t have this problem. I can open as many word apps as my ipad can handle. So I will keep using those for now, and I am sure a future update will incorporate this functionality into office.

Great for opening almost all documents, great scanning experience but please extend the limit of images we can take for making pdf 30 is very small for students. Great picture to text software works without any errors for me. Table to excel needs alot of work in recognition it is getting the printed text also wrong it would help if you enroll a beta program where you give the user options to insert based in the recognition to train the machine better by machine leaning.

Great call by Microsoft to add their Office Trio (Word, Excel and Power Point) into one app. I have an older 16GB phone, and Storage is at a high premium. With this app, I can write papers, work on spreadsheets and presentations without taking up space with three separate apps, saving me precious storage space. This is a great app for working on projects in places I can't bring my laptop, or if one of my other family members is using it, I can still be productive from my phone. Pair this app with a bluetooth keyboard and you have a winning combination!
  • I’m super happy with the new Office app! Feb 20, 2020

This is great! The update is very efficient for me. I work between Word and Excel quite often for research. To be able to open, copy, and use actions quickly when I’m doing something quickly (like emailing my boss about statistical results) is essential. Office does this very well and I’m very happy with Microsoft listening to customers and combining all of the essentials into one. I also really like the option to convert an image to Excel table or image to text. These small features really make me love it.

This app is an example of something I didn’t know I needed but once I began exploring and using it, I love it. Very elegant and simple solution, with access to all of the key use cases. Microsoft continues to delight under Satya Nadella and this app is another example of a well-executed solution that not only meets needs but delights in its simplicity. As MS continues to improve some of the bones (lens/pdf scanning and editing, etc.) this app will only continue to get better. Well done Microsoft and Office app developers. Love it.

This app has more than not, far more. Besides the couple of things that cannot be done by this one, consider it complete. That's right. It's as if soon you will not need to even consider thinking or typing to write a story or book. Regardless of your choice, whether to think, type or install this app, do it peacefully.

  • Useful (when it works), but slow and very limited Jun 14, 2020

    By MaxAgHammer
I don’t know if this app by itself is better than having the three separate Office apps installed, but it takes up considerably less space. I use this almost exclusively for Excel documents, and this app is an adequate editor for very simple things like adding new data entries and viewing attachments received via mail or shared via cloud based file services. However, this app is EXTREMELY SLOW to work with and its interface feels claustrophobic and fiddly on an iPhone 8 screen. Maybe it’s better on an iPad Pro, with the larger display and more powerful CPU to run it? I don’t even try to do anything so complicated as enter formulas or format cells when I’m using this app… like I said, the UI is not great. A word of warning: if you rely on Dropbox to store Office documents that you frequently work with and update via this app, you will tear your hair out in frustration at the way Office turns into a complete basket case trying to deal with Dropbox storage. I don’t know whose fault that is, Microsoft or Dropbox, but it’s infuriating and will happen to you even when doing the simplest things to documents retrieved from Dropbox folders. It gets even worse if you’re using a VPN… be ready for lost work and mondo pain. At least everything works even slower over VPN connections, so you have that to look forward to.

Office keeps crashing and is unable to open long enough to function. The app is up-to-date but keeps crashing and it's really frustating because this keeps occuring. I sent in a crash report so hopefully I'll hear back soon. My device is a Samsung Chromebook and I'm aware that other users with my device type are experiencing the same thing. Also, I find it ironic that this app is labeled "productivity" when it doesn't even work.

I do not know how many stars I want to give. At first, it was working great, however, lately it keep crashing. I had to uninstall and install it some many times. I hard when you have a paper to write and a deadline to have it turn in. I don't know if something the school is paying for it to only work temporary or whatever is going on with your system please fix it.
  • Why isn’t this universal at start? May 9, 2020

    By Dan62103
I’ve had an iPad since day 1, gen 1. I have waited ever since for Microsoft and Apple to meld their strengths and have a good workflow for office on IOS and cloud files. After reading about this app’s release I was hopeful this was the one that would become the solution. And then after downloading realized...it’s prioritized for phones and does the lame compatibility version for iPad. I don’t work in the tech industry, but would bet money that an analysis would show people using office on mobile devices are largely on tablets and less on phones. Are that many people really making presentations and excel files on phone screens? This needed to be a universal app or prioritized for iPads first and then have a phone version. Feels like a no brainer and failure for now for me. Hoping iPad prioritization comes soon.

I'm on a chromebook and this is the worse app I have - first it was long to load a new Word doc and first attempt to work in the header was a total fail. There are no icons to upload a photo or text managers. Good grief. I'm back to working in Google Docs and saving as a Word doc.
  • New Office app confusing in opened / created Word files Nov 20, 2020

    By Mark Verizon customer
Since the installation of the new Office app, if I go to OneDrive on an iOS device and open a Word file or create a Word file, what interface shows up in the opened or created file isn’t Word app or a Word interface. Instead this “Office” app opens. It’s very confusing. The Office app interface is very basic, and even the font graphics are simplistic. Since I have discovered this quirk with the “Office” app, and since going to support didn’t give me an easy way to address the issue, I cannot rate this new Office app very high, only one star low. If I open just the Word app, it seems to work just fine. So today, to try and avoid the Office app doing this, since I already have Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps installed and working well on iOS devices, I removed the Office app and dropped my rating to one star.
  • Call it “Office Lens Plus”? Feb 20, 2020

By Apps as I see them
The Office app for iOS as of February 2020 seems to be lacking a lot of the power promised in the various videos from Microsoft floating around. It looks like this app was rushed out before it was finished. One video shows the ability to create a PowerPoint from an outline, but try finding the “Create Outline” button in this version. Office Lens already has some great capabilities - such as scanning a whiteboard or making a PDF - and this app does those too. And while it will get those images or scans over into a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint document, that’s hardly bringing them all into one place in any easy way. I hope Microsoft will continue to develop this into what they’ve promised. But at this point, there’s not enough in the app, and what is there isn’t quite integrated yet.

Microsoft help team also tried by PC sharing. They also failed. I emailed with screen shot to help desk and Microsoft no answer.
  • If you love apps getting kicked out of memory you’ll love Office! Mar 15, 2021

    By LouisPiper
This app gets jettisoned from memory more than any other app I can think of. I have games that I’ll swipe home, open safari, then go back to and they won’t have moved. This app? If I take my eyes off the screen it’s gone. Thankfully it saves everything but wow does it take time to watch it reload EVERY SINGLE TIME. Add that to the fact that this app seems to put images wherever it feels like in Word docs I wonder why I use it every single time I tap to open it. If I wasn’t required to use it I would hand write everything and send by carrier pigeon than use it. It is truly a terrible experience.

I live for this app. It is so much easier on the app then on the browser. Especially since I have to do school work from home, it’s just so much easier and less stressful. The only thing I would correct is when you go into office, I wish more of the little icons were there that you could go to like word or PowerPoint or teams and stuff like that. But otherwise I definitely recommend this app. Five stars

  • Forces phone/tablet choice Feb 21, 2020

    By Thee Madam Bomb
Unless it’s a bug, the app seems to make you choose between optimization for a phone or tablet. I installed on my phone first and then on the iPad and it won’t resolve to the iPad screen properly. (There’s also a message generated saying as much). Beyond that super-annoying issue, I don’t really see how this is an improvement over the individual apps I use (Word, Excel & PPT) on these devices. It seems like a re-skin, not a re-think.

At the moment, I would wish that the folders and documents could show a time sensitive organization, with regard to; the most recent item being accessed. That being said, perhaps in a column along the right hand side of the phone or whatever else is being used, it would be able to see how many hours or days ago the file or document was used or opened. Just a thought. Thanks!

  • Microsoft Office Application Jul 30, 2020

The app is great; but limited. The pandemic locked me out of university, community college, and public library computer labs which put a cramp in me posting on my Facebook page. I wondered if Microsoft had an Office App in the App Store? To my surprise; there was! The App allowed me to continue posting from my IPhone SE; which have its difficulties. I yet, continued on. My problems were the inflexibility of the app to work on the small surface of my iPhone. Frustrating as it is, I continue to use it, the App gets the job done; which is a plus!!!

Great app. There are some small annoying bugs that need fixing, and some features are not their (compared to desktop version) but it is great for on the go work, and most of the small inconveniences can be fixed with an app restart or a small workaround.

Would be even better if (A) there was a privacy option that allows users to set a password/pin, or use Touch ID; and (B) if there were better integration between this and cloud provider apps such that each app could be protected with a password while also allowing the user to open documents from any cloud app via Office as a centralized point. Right now password protection for iOS OneDrive, Google Drive, etc. has to be disabled to open and edit documents.

I love this app because it’s all Office apps in one but I use an iPad and this app is for iPhone and I can still download it but it has the iPhone versions of Office which are a little bit harder to work on iPad, and also the keyboard is big which makes it more harder to work in iPad. This app is excellent but the only problem is that it’s for iPhone and not for iPad, I would like a lot if you make it available for iPad.

I use this app on my phone all the time, but hope they will make one for iPad os. But please allow multiple instances. I currently reference a spreadsheet and write about the data in a word document on separate apps, but I am worried that I will not be able to have these two files open in separate apps and will have to close a file, open the other, the. Reopen the original. It can be great!

... why not release a version for iPad? This app is great on iPhone but having separate apps for the iPad is inconvenient. Honestly, they should replace the Mac/Windows apps with this one too. That’s how good it is. But I can’t give it 5 stars as an iOS app because it’s only for iPhone which is as asinine as WhatsApp, Robinhood, Instagram & others being only for iPhone.

  • No POP. No real-time support. No sync across platforms. Mar 12, 2021

    By YSS1254
I will start with support. If you have an issue, don’t count on a real-time chat. What!? No there is no real-time chat in the support function and the support options are limited if you try any of the other support options. I have never seen a chat option that does not have real-time responses. Unacceptable. You cannot use POP with this app. It only allows IMAP which means if you have your own domain and domain email, you can Ouse it here. Not very helpful for businesses—especially a sole proprietor who has no need for exchange. I have spent hours (maybe days) trying to find a configuration that works for me. I have Office365 as well as the individual apps on my desktop. Surprisingly the desktop apps do not sync with the cloud base accounts. The galling thing is that you have to pay for this fragmented and inflexible series of product. Moving on to find another choice.

While this takes up less memory on my device, it doesn’t feel like it makes things easier or faster when using Office. If I have individual apps on my home screen, I can start the needed workflow faster than opening Office then looking for Word or Excel. Also a true iPad version is needed for me to get meaningful work done. I can zoom in on my iPad, but lots of screen space is wasted, and again, there is no advantage than using the individual iPad versions of MS Office.
  • Love the idea, needs work on iPad Feb 16, 2021

    By JayJay2425
I love the idea of having a unified app on iOS/iPadOS. I was very excited to see that this app has finally made its way to iPad. I’m someone who doesn’t necessarily need the full power of all 3 standalone apps, and they take up storage more than anything else. A unified, lighter app is just what I was looking for. However, without multiple-window/multitasking support, this app cannot serve as a suitable replacement. If this feature is added, this app would be perfect.
  • PLEASE OPTIMIZE FOR iPadOS Apr 13, 2020

    By Shaw.Nomura
I can’t give you a 5 star review for two reasons: 1) I use Office 365 APPS exclusively on my iPad Pro. You NEED TO provide a separate iPadOS app or optimize this one to be used on the iPad. 2) Please improve the Excel parts of this app especially when an iPadOS version is created. It would be awesome to get a version that rivals the MacOS version of Excel. Many of us us the iPad as a Mac/PC replacement. These two improvements will truly make this the perfect APP for the mobile office user.
  • My experience with Microsoft Word on IPad Nov 13, 2020

    By Lynatam
I am a very recent user (about a week!) and am yet to figure out a couple of things, such as creation of folders, inserting a password on a document or change on an imported document. The Apple Apps (Pages, Numbers, ...) have a link to getting started (some kind of Manual for guidance on how to navigate the App). I don’t know if there’s an equivalent - it would be very helpful. Thank you.
  • Don’t use on password protected files Feb 22, 2020

    By lirr user!
Hello. I used this app to open a password protected file on my OneDrive. Now I am unable to open the same file on my desktop excel program. I get a message that states this file is corrupt and can’t be open. Then when I try open on this app now it says that this app can not decrypt this file!!! Someone please fix this.
  • No Side-by-side on IPad Mar 6, 2021

    By Cody Barnett
Love this app on my iPhone (and it works well), but on iPad - with all that extra screen space - sometimes you need to have two documents open side by side. Right now, this isn’t possible. Until it gets this ability, this isn’t a viable replacement of the individual apps.

Excellent app but something is broken. The 'recent' files on the home screen doesn't seem to work. A freshly opened file doesn't make the list and makes it more time consuming to find later. Please fix.
  • Was good, but an update made it worse. Apr 28, 2020

    By Sebas421
There's a microphone icon when viewing a document in Mobile view that won't go away. It's so annoying. That and when coming back to a document, I no longer have the option to go where I left off. When working with smaller documents, it's not a problem. But when I have a 456 page document that I'm working on and I go back to the middle to edit and exit, I have to find my way back when before there used to be a little previous badge I could click on. Ease revert and give option to hide the microphone icon.
  • Wanted it, but too slow Mar 20, 2021

    By danw00
I am happy that Microsoft FINALLY made a similar app for the iPad. It is good to have a separate app while having the other 3 apps + this has sticky note support & Lens scanning. However, the issue is that the app is running VERY SLOW + the sticky notes do not sync between this app & OneNote. Even if it does, the text is missing. I hope that this is fixed in the future as I actually enjoy the app. Specifically, it can be used in a slide over-like fashion (cannot remember what Apple calls it).
  • Great on iPhone, but NOT iPad Mar 5, 2020

    By X.Static
Love having everything centralized on my iPhone for lightweight use, but it's unbelievable that Microsoft shipped this without optimizing for iPads, which is where most mobile Office users will get any kind of serious work done. 4 stars for iPhone, but 1 star for iPad, and that's only because the app opens and works, albeit looking terrible. You shouldn't have shipped this app without optimizing for iPad as well.
  • Where’s the ipad version May 29, 2020

    By Nyninja
So the theory between melding all on Office apps into one app really is great and should have been implemented ages ago. However i dont understand why the ipad doesn’t have its own specific version of the one Microsoft combined app instead of an iphone version patched to the ipad. Don’t most people use the office apps on the tablets over the iphones. Please make an ipad version asap

Incredibly frustrated with word being unable to open .doc files saved on my phone's sd card ("word found unreadable content in ***.docx"), and despite my answering the source is trusted, it won't open. Over and over and over. I cannot access files until I send it to my computer and save it as a new file. Is this a documented issue? If so, can it please be fixed??? Happy to give 5 stars if this were corrected.

    (1) Need fingerprint login like the OneDrive app, (2) Notes, the user should be able to choose which Account/OneDrive the note is saved in, (3) 'default save location' setting doesn't work, especially when there are multiple OneDrive's in the app, (4) syncing with the OneDrive is sometimes slow, need a sync button, (5) navigation is a pain, when the user is in the file structure of OneDrive within the app, need a Home button.
