• Good app but a few things that could be fixed Dec 24, 2019

By Catoasch
I love this game . It allows me to talk to my friend with out having a phone number . Also when I'm on vacation in Florida with my grandma , I can chat with my parents back home . But , there is a couple of problems I face with this app . One of them is , the missions . When I got the app at first it had a couple of missions like taking a picture or something . Once I finished all of the missions , I had to wait a little while for some more . But since then there haven't been any for several months . Sometimes I go up to the missions tab to see if there are any more for me to complete . But there haven't been for a long time now . Another problem I get when I use this app is sometimes when I face time a family member or friend , I lose something like the ability to see or hear the person I'm talking to . But it isn't just with me . When I was playing Roblox with a friend while on a call ( which actually works ! ) she started to not beable to hear me but i could hear her perfectly fine. But if Facebook messanger could fix this . Thier ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️rating will be on it’s way .

I would give the app a 4 out of 5 because the one thing i do not like about it is that when ever do a group chat it has to take up so much space with the little bar that says when the group chat started and when it ended but other wise i think it a great app, very kid friendly, and there are some games on it, and you can name the group(s)

• Awesome app but I have a few suggestions Jul 16, 2020

This is an awesome app! I am a 11 year old and my parents are all about online safety. They got me this app so I could chat safely with my friends from school and my family, and just WOW! Messenger kids is amazing! I can text, and video call with my friends and family, safely, all while my parents are monitoring what I’m doing WHILE I’m doing it. I love that it is FREE and totally safe!! But I also have a suggestion. So it’d be amazing if you guys could make a Facebook Kids app. Itd be just like Facebook, except with all the parental controls. Facebook Kids and Messenger Kids could connect, like Facebook and Messenger do, and basically you can post whatever you want, create you profile, and you can post like people do on Facebook. But only your friends can see your posts and profile. You are only viewable to your friends that you are friends with on the messenger kids app. You also get notified whenever one of your friends posts, or whenever one of them like or comment or share your post. I think that in the parental control setting in Facebook, there should be an option to let kids see adults post, the ones that actually have Facebook. Because adults sometimes posts things that kids shouldn’t see. But the adults that are friends with the kid, can still see there posts. Thank you for putting your time and effort into making messenger kids, and I hope you at least consider my idea. 💖💖

This app is great I got it so I could message my friends that do not have phone numbers and it works great! My only grievances are 1 this app is seemingly targeted to younger kids and I find the games easy. 2 I have an android cell phone and my brother has an I pad, for the I pad there are more filters and more text on the options, for example when it says on my phone "take a funny phot" it says on the I pad "Take a funny photo!! New filters every week" in short I love this app but see minorbugs

This is an excellent app for kids. I am a super cautious/boarder line paranoid parent when it comes to my children and internet safety. The contacts my kids have are completely controlled by me, and there’s no way for a child to work around the parental controls. This is HUGE, as almost all other online platforms’ parental control features are super easy to bypass by a child with even minimal technological understanding. I am technologically impaired, personally, which is even more cause for my concerns about my kids being safe online. It’s hard enough to protect them sufficiently for people that understand all possible functions and pitfalls with different apps/platforms. When the kids have a better grasp of technological functionality than the parent does that’s a recipe for disaster in my mind because they can get around almost any safety measure I might apply. That’s not possible with this app. It’s simple to understand and 100% secure. Everything goes through me from the contacts that get added to even sending me notifications if my child deletes a contact or something comes up in conversation that I may find concerning. I can see anything and everything they do when I Choose, But it’s nice that they have that extra, “hey you might wanna check this” notification in case you haven’t checked in a while or miss something. I recommend this app absolutely!

I have tried to use this app for my son, for about a week now. I have tried on my own phone as well as my tablet. I verify my facebook, put in his name and birth date then every single time I continue it tells me that an account can't be made. I have reinstalled multiple times, to no avail. This isn't even worth my time anymore!

Frustrated- my child is trying to video chat with a group of 6 to 7 people, which we have done in the past. Today, it is not working and keep getting a "You are not contacts on Messenger. The person you are calling will receive a message request to connect." And then a pop-up message at the bottom of the screen says, "No permission to start conference calls for this group." Now, we are contacts and connected, so what is the problem why we can't video chat today?

• Confusing and Actual little control! Jan 3, 2020

So I downloaded this app for my daughter. It was confusing how to set it up and I felt oddly out of control of the app. My daughter had fun with it but you get alerted to every call as if it comes in to your phone. So it’s extremely irritating when a friend of hers calls her, bc it shows up for a call from me. I had to delete it when sent an inappropriate photo (nothing major but didn’t want it to get worse) and THEN I find out there’s no way to delete parts of the convo or the photo she sent! No control over that. So I had to contact the other parent to let her know I’d be deleting the app and to let me know if the convo disappears on their end it does). However, my kid’s profile still shows up on my Facebook app and not sure where to delete that. I had to messenger the kids messenger people, and hope they get back. In sum, for an app with controls, there’s actually little control over settings and removing content. It’s confusing to follow and rings your phone every time a friend calls your kid. I wouldn’t download it.

This app is fine, as long as you ignore the MANY, MANY glitches. Most of them are on video call, where you might not be able to see the other person, you might not be able to hear them, and the worst: “SoMeThInG WhEnT WrOnG”. The worst part about this is that these are not rare occurrences. These happen almost every call (besides the “SoMeThInG WhEnT WrOnG” message). You might need to call someone about six times to get a glitchless call. On the topic of video calls, the filters. They were ok when I first got messenger kids, but they are getting worse. Soooo much worse. We have a bomb that explodes and makes you puke eggs/flowers and a dog that throws up dog treats when ever you open your mouth (???). They are replacing all the ok ones with newer, crappier ones. I do love the photo editor, as they give you lots of freedom. I do recommend getting this app though, because it is a good app if you can work around the many glitches and low quality filters.

Not sure why this app is getting rave reviews. I have three kids that wanted to keep in touch with their cousins. It was a pain to set up. It was also very confusing. They’d be trying to call each other and every call would call me also. I have about 15 missed calls from the app. I was also getting every single message they sent- which isn’t a bad thing but kind of tedious when they are just sending stickers to each other. Managing the accts left a lot to be desired. I couldn’t modify or delete any accidentally made chats. So they had multiple chats open and it got confusing for them. Also I would message my niece and it would show up on my daughters phone. She had no idea who wrote them. As a parent I shouldn’t be getting all that. I should be able to modify and see who wrote what in all chats. So as of now I’m going to delete and hope that some major overhaul changes happen. Cause for me it was headache inducing and not ideal for the kids.

• Contacts list parents can see is faulty Nov 26, 2018

By sjdim
First of all, it’s not easy figuring out how to delete contacts or add new ones once you have finished initial set up. When I finally figured it out (I had to google it, after I tried downloading the app directly onto my phone to see it I could access parental controls that way), finding out that you access this control from you Facebook account, the contact lists for my two kids were not showing all their contacts. I know this because there were a few relatives I was specifically looking for to delete (not for bad reasons on their part, but just because my kids were bugging them a lot), and they show up on the app for my kids, but not for me to delete from my end. I had to go out of the parental controls for each of my kids and then back in again several times and each time a new contact that previously had not shown up, showed up. It’s really weird. And even still on one of my kids accounts, from my end, it says she does not have her dad as a contact, but I know she does as she messages him all the time on there. This issue needs to be fixed ASAP!

• Very good, but needs improvement. Nov 3, 2019

I have been using this app since I was 7. It has been fun for me. I can talk to my friends, use fun filters, and send stickers and gifs. However, I don’t appreciate the fact that when new filters come, old ones go away. Also with the missions, for three years it has said to come back later for more. Although It can be good in some ways, I hate when my app goes to sleep. My mom will not change it and it has been horrible. For example, last week I had an unseen text. For three days straight, I couldn’t see my message because of this. On the way to school, my app was still sleeping, when I finish homework, my app is sleeping again. I suggest that maybe this app should have sleeping limits, or no sleeping at all. For a last complaint, blocking. One time my friend wanted to know what happened when she blocked someone. She blocked me and then when she unblocked me, we still couldn’t talk to each other. This app has some flaws, but can be good in many ways. I hope you will agree with me and try to fix these, but also keep up the good work!

• Great For Kids Jul 12, 2020

By Julie7842
This app is awesome for kids because it allows them the freedom to speak to their friends via messenger (texting style) or call them (like Face Time). It has been a life saver during the COVID-19 quarantine. The downfall of this app lies with the parents! As a parent, you must approve all the friends that your child wishes to speak with (which is AMAZING and I appreciate that) However, anytime they begin to write or call each other (which is ALL the time) my phone and Apple Watch begins to vibrate, ring, ping, and anything else you can imagine! I love knowing who she speaks to but there is no way of quieting the alerts. It’s either you are in the know or you have to relinquish all the perks of knowing anything! I do appreciate the weekly updates of who has your child been speaking with break-down. But I really wish the makers of the app would brainstorm a way to have the best of both worlds! When I’m at work and my phone is vibrating (and my watch) it’s very distracting. Please focus on fixing that part!! Otherwise, LOVE the app! 😊

It's not too bad. I can text and call my cousin and friend, but one thing I find ridiculous is that you can't delete messages and everytime you type a keyboard face (example: :P) it changes into an emoji. Also, sometimes when I try to open a contact, it takes me to video call even though my finger wasn't on the video call button. Please fix this. Overall, it was an okay experience.

• My kids love this.. but literally NO boundaries May 20, 2019

By Newtonka
I have had this app for ONE day and my phone is nonstop blowing up. I have turned all notifications off (which I’d rather not have to do) However. There is not any type of a silent mode or an option to not contact the kids at a certain time. Even with zero notifications my phone keeps going off with all of the phone calls coming in from my child’s friends. Like 10x/minute. It is way too much. I have found myself logging on asking my daughters friends to please respect that it is bedtime. There needs to be some boundaries on this app! Like there should be a “do not disturb” option and also a function that requires parents permission for FaceTiming. Giving them access to chat at any time with friends is a complete invasion of privacy. My daughter respects it once I catch on that she’s FaceTiming.. but I should be able to allow the time frame when she has access to do it period. Already had a “moment” where I had to raise my voice and she’s literally FaceTiming with a friend.. who is in front of her parents.. and they heard everything. Beyond uncomfortable knowing that our privacy is invaded by kids that are just doing what the app allows them to get away with. More boundaries please or this thing is getting deleted. It is overwhelming after day 1.

Also i cant change my profile picutre to something in my Gallery, this has been bugging me for so LONG. I use a LG android phone thingy- (idk what its called) please tell me how to do it...

It is a good app to chat with your freinds and family. Sometimes it glittches so much that i have to close everything and wait several minutes to reopen it. Very kid freindly but definetly needs a new update to fix problems. I chat on it alot but me and my freind have found a problem where it will keep hanging us up after chatting for a while. We eventualy have to switch to Gmail, Duo, or Zoom.

I have been using this app since we have to social distance now. It has been a great way to chat with my friends and send each other funny photos! However, there are some problems. First, it has been telling me that "new missions are coming soon" since I got the app and from the other reviews I've read there haven't been any for at least 3 years! Second, sometimes when I call my friends I can't see them. I can hear them but all I see is a black screen which makes my friends have to call me back. Third, The filters are so dumb! Okay, some of them are funny but the rest are just DUMB. I also don't like how they get rid of the old filters. Forth, the games should come with instructions! All that the app shows you is a hand motioning you to tap the screen. Even if there were instructions the games are pretty bad. Fifth, glitches. So many glitches!! Sometimes I will randomly go on mute without touching the screen. Sixth, you used to be able to customize your text bubble color but now it won't let me change it. I asked my friends and it's not just me it's everyone! Besides these problems this is an overall good app and I like it! P.S. I am a kid

• WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BUBBLE COLORS D:< Aug 3, 2019

By Elew1014
Okey so I chat with my friends and us 3 have a different bubble color. And when you go to the message spot then you can see their color along with yours. But this morning when I got on O SEE THAT THE COLOR OF THE PERSON IM TALKING TO IS NOW GRAY! Why is it like this? I DON’T LIKE IT. The colors are what made the whole thing unique and fun! BUT WHY REMOVE THE BEST PART! CHANGE IT BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK! GIVE BACK THE COLORS AND FUN OR IM DONE USING THIS. I used it last night and it had lots of fun color. And I went to our group chat to see what everyone sent. Then I noticed something wasn’t right. The bubbles were gray. So I went to one of my friends and their color was gray. It’s usually light blue though. And my other friend is a purplish pink color. BUT THEY WERE BOTH GRAY. Oh and take note this happened OVERNIGHT. SO THAT’S WHY I RATE 2 STARS. BECAUSE ALL THE FUN WAS TAKEN OUT OF IT. I DON’T LIKE THE GRAY!!! JUST PUT THE COLORS BACK IN! THAT’S ALL IM ASKING FOR! THEN I’D GIVE IT 5 STARS! -I’m not telling you my name ÒwÓ

• I found some stuff about this app... Jul 8, 2020

I was scrolling down some 1 star reviews I was trying to find mine but a few mins later.. I realised that mine was a 3 star. But before that I saw about 2 reviews saying that either them or their child got hacked. Then after finding my review, I went to messenger kids and went to see the timelapse that I spent 1 hour on, I used 3 apps, Videoshop, Picsart, and Kinemaster to make it. I used picsart to add the sound and also that is the same with Kinemaster for the end. And when I sent the video it had sound. When I went to check the video, It didn't have sound...I had my ringer on (maybe I just put my volume to 0, If I did, Oopsies! 😅) These two things (or maybe just the hacked reviews) Made this app get a 2 star, I still have this promise though. "Fix these Glitches by December" Now, I'm getting tired of writing... See ya in December!

I love this app it’s just that I want to be able to create my own stickers if you look at the stickers you can either see a name or it says Facebook Inc. I am very artistic and I want to make my own stickers. Besides that I love it ,I think it’s easy to set up, very user friendly and I can talk to my friends. There is one other thing I used to be able to see what time I sent a different message than the one that started the chat but now I can’t, what is the deal with it!In some places this is a great game. I just need those things fixed please. Ok I just realized that my parents get more stickers than I do and they have some that I would love to have( like the spongebob that I know my friend would like to) and that are completely kid appropriate so I updated the app and still don’t get them so please fix these things

• So many glitches Jun 20, 2020

By lupine 4569
I mean it’s not a bad app but there are so many glitches and it is so hard to see people and I like to see everybody’s face. Me and my friends use this app every day now because of quarantine and there is no way to not have it be glitchy. I mean texting works fine and all but calls are so hard to get to the point that no one is black or frozen. Here are some things that can happen when I am on calls my friends can get black frozen and in particular one of my friends has this thing that happens to her sometimes it’s when she switches from game to game it dose this thing where her face gets all weird and it’s not a filter. Some other things that can happen are: not being able to answer, texts, photos or videos not coming though, it’s starting to get annoying. But on the bright side I am grateful that I have this app to talk to my friends on and play awesome games. I hope you can fix these glitches soon. -S R😁

You would think that Facebook could do better than this! Installed this app for my son to chat with his friends. Big mistake! This app does not have a “Do not disturb” setting! Looking at reviews (from over a year old and newer) that this is a common complaint! Even my son gets annoyed that he can’t play any games because friends keep calling and knocking him out of his game. I had this on my phone for one week and had to remove it. Also, we had an incident where my son sent something that was blocked by messenger with a warning. We didn’t get a warning for several days. We asked him what he sent and he had no idea. He’s 8 years old and doesn’t use bad words. Since messenger won’t tell you what was blocked, we can’t see what it is and talk to our son as to why it was blocked. Facebook has become so bad we will look for an option that works to help us protect our kids!
