  • Awesome but could change Dec 26, 2020

    By Ell the elephant!!!
So I have this app and it’s AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! Me and my friends love to chat with each other and have video calls especially during Covid 19 but there could be a few adjustments: the main reason I gave this app a four star review is because when it’s past eight o’clock or something it says “the app went to sleep” which is so annoying because I can’t even text my dad! It says something about switching my account!!! Number two: sometimes when I’m doing my homework or just hanging out my iPad will just start getting ONE BILLION texts and calls and it’s so annoying I wish there was some kind of decline button or like a disable button because people will just spam me all day long and they’ll call me and hang up and call me and hang up and it’s soooooo annoying!!! Number three: it’s cool in all how you can decorate you app and stuff but it would be nice if you could make it a bit more detailed because being able to color your app and switch your picture whenever you want is making your app unique and I love that but if you could make it a bit more detailed that would be awesome. Thanks for reading my review and it would be helpful if you could change at least one thing about the app in my review.

This app is great!! I've been using it for many years now, and it has good protection over kids! Parents have the optional choice to see what there kid is saying, and see who is texting them! There is many fun filters, emojis, and much more on the app! You can have as many people as you want. The only thing is it does lag sometimes. You can be on a call and it hangs up for no reason. Besides that the app is great!

  • Great app but a few suggestions Aug 27, 2020

So I’m a kid and I use this app and I like to talk to my friends and play the bunny bridge game a lot but there’s an issue with it that makes me frustrated. The issue is this: in the tutorial it shows you the exact pieces you need and the bunny doesn’t start moving until all the pieces have been placed. When you start the real game, it doesn’t give you all the right pieces and the bunny doesn’t wait until you’ve completed a path. It starts moving after 2 pieces have been placed. I get that it’s a puzzle thing, but the bunny moves really fast and on the first level I played today, I tried placing a piece but it didn’t work, so that’s really frustrating. If you could maybe wait until the path is about halfway completed and if you could set out some more actually useful pieces, that’d be awesome. Also, I was thinking about this recently, last year I did this thing called “let’s look for cool filters” but when I watched the video at the end, I couldn’t hear what I said with most of the filters activated. I don’t know if this is still a problem, but anyways, there’s one more thing I wanted to discuss. There was this ADORABLE shark filter and I named him Leonard (pronounced Len-ird) and I haven’t seen him since! Please please please please PLEASE BRING LEONARD BACK Thank you, A kid who uses this app

  • My kids love this.. but literally NO boundaries May 20, 2019

I have had this app for ONE day and my phone is nonstop blowing up. I have turned all notifications off (which I’d rather not have to do) However. There is not any type of a silent mode or an option to not contact the kids at a certain time. Even with zero notifications my phone keeps going off with all of the phone calls coming in from my child’s friends. Like 10x/minute. It is way too much. I have found myself logging on asking my daughters friends to please respect that it is bedtime. There needs to be some boundaries on this app! Like there should be a “do not disturb” option and also a function that requires parents permission for FaceTiming. Giving them access to chat at any time with friends is a complete invasion of privacy. My daughter respects it once I catch on that she’s FaceTiming.. but I should be able to allow the time frame when she has access to do it period. Already had a “moment” where I had to raise my voice and she’s literally FaceTiming with a friend.. who is in front of her parents.. and they heard everything. Beyond uncomfortable knowing that our privacy is invaded by kids that are just doing what the app allows them to get away with. More boundaries please or this thing is getting deleted. It is overwhelming after day 1.

It is amazing to talk to my friends during quarantine, and I love the speicial effects and games you can play while on video calls! I saw a one star review complaining that it was not good and that you should stick with the original Messenger. This app was made for kids so if you are old enough then don't use it! Also, another one star review said that it was bad for teens and tweens because it was so childish. It is for kids, so of course it is childish.

App used to work great. It was a great way for my daughter to communicate with her dad in Europe. But now they can't send anything messenger kids. Tried reporting the problem to Facebook and have gotten absolutely no response. Its very frustrating cause this was the only way my daughter could communicate with her dad. Now I have to find a different app for them. My daughter shouldn't have to text between so many different apps.

I use messenger kids to text and call with my friends and family and it’s been very buggy recently. Like if I call my friends, sometimes even when they have wifi or their devices aren’t dead, their screen goes black and i hear the connecting sound and then we have to call back like a bazillion times. It’s so frustrating! Please fix these problems soon. Oh, also, can you please make Facebook Kids? It’s like this: Parents can choose the people who their kids will be socializing with and you can put a thumbs up on stuff and write private comments. And you can report mean comments and you can have a bio on your profile page and you can follow your friends and get notifications when they post something. Oh also, it feels like you guys over at Facebook put a lot of work in your other apps but not in this app. I feel like you think “oh, they’re just kids, they won’t know!” But we DO know. So please put more effort in fixing all of the bugs. *UPDATE* I do zoom meetings for school with the iPad and messenger kids is on my iPad and I hate how my cousin can just call me during a meeting. Please fix this because it’s so annoying!!! And just one more thing, PLEASE PUT LANDSCAPE MODE!!!!

So I made an account for my son downloaded the app and then it refuses to let me log into the one I already made on my Facebook, so it forced me to make a new account (took a picture and his name not even the whole process like it made me do from Facebook) now I can’t find a way to deactivate the new account, and Facebook says it put his grandma in control of the other account (don’t know how that happened and she didn’t make an account nor does Facebook say my son and his grandma are related they don’t even have the same last name) THATS A BIG PROBLEM! She can’t give me control of the account and I didn’t tell the app anyone but me had control of the kids messager. There needs to be an easier way of connecting the account with your Facebook (especially if you have two different accounts of your own) there definitely needs to be a Easy accessible delete/deactivate the kids messager account from your messager and I way to get on your Facebook messager and one click connect to your kids messager. PLEASE FIX THIS, ANYONE CAN TAKE OVER THE KIDS ACCOUNT AND DO WHATEVER CHANGES THEY WANT!

  • Confusing and Actual little control! Jan 3, 2020

So I downloaded this app for my daughter. It was confusing how to set it up and I felt oddly out of control of the app. My daughter had fun with it but you get alerted to every call as if it comes in to your phone. So it’s extremely irritating when a friend of hers calls her, bc it shows up for a call from me. I had to delete it when sent an inappropriate photo (nothing major but didn’t want it to get worse) and THEN I find out there’s no way to delete parts of the convo or the photo she sent! No control over that. So I had to contact the other parent to let her know I’d be deleting the app and to let me know if the convo disappears on their end it does). However, my kid’s profile still shows up on my Facebook app and not sure where to delete that. I had to messenger the kids messenger people, and hope they get back. In sum, for an app with controls, there’s actually little control over settings and removing content. It’s confusing to follow and rings your phone every time a friend calls your kid. I wouldn’t download it.

We installed The Messenger so Our daughter can be in touch with her friends during COVID. To be closer to our parents who are high risk group we now temporarily moved to our birth country to support them. I log in mostly through the VPN my US employer provided so all our US services work well. Whilst my daughter has started to use my in-laws wireless just as it is faster. After a few weeks using a non US IP Facebook now makes it impossible to access her account even when using a US IP. Support is not answering to any questions and she is completely cut off from her friends. I asked various times to look at this situation and ensure she is keeping her social contacts but Facebook can’t care less (too busy lobbying senators and schmouzing Congressmen what nice people they are rather than behaving like decent human beings) So in short will only work when you are not a minority or other group who’s kids data is not worth selling on for Facebook.

This app is a five star app. It is the texting app for kids, and you don't need a number, you only need a name and a code to add friends. You can video chat, text, take pictures, wear filters, pick your favorite color, set a time you can't be on, and add adults to! This app is so fun. Why can't I make a group with my friends?

I really like this app. It’s very well organized I think. Honestly it’s just so amazing because it’s so safe. My mom got this app for me during quarantine since a lot of my friends didn’t have phones to text or call with. They all had iPads or Computers. So when I first got this app I was pretty enthusiastic! I mean I think it’s a safe way for kids and friends to text and still talk during wierd times. I think the parent controls are amazing. I think the parent controls are so important for safety that this is an app that kids and there friends are safe. Also, my friend sent me this screen shot if the new update were you can share a song with your friends and make a video. Even though I updated this app cleared it and restarted my phone I could not find this feature. I searched it up on the internet but nothing helped. So please can you do something or tru and put something about on the internet because it really seems interesting and I would hate to miss out! But that’s really all I think this app is amazing it has some twinks but not everything is perfect. Overall this app is great! (My fingers are now officially dead btw)

This is one of the best apps I have ever used! I love it and it is TOTALLY kid safe. You can message all of your friends and facetime. The only thing I dont like about it is that you cant do a normal phone call. But you know, it doesnt matter as long as you can have fun with you friends! But if you could, please change the phone call thing? But other that that keep up the good work!😊😊😊

  • This is great but just a few problems Sep 9, 2020

    By bad.bxtch.neia
I’m 11 and I personally think this app is GREAT! Some problems are when people spam me! I would just be doing homework or something and my sister would constantly send random videos and stuff!😒I would block them but that is just plain rude.😬There should DEFINITELY be a Do not Disturb button! Another problem is saving pictures or videos with stickers or text! Whenever I save a picture or a video with something written on it or a sticker, it doesn’t save the written thing! That just gets me mad! I would want to show my friends at school instead of just opening up the app and scrolling and looking for the video I sent! I also think that the videos you can take should be longer than 1 minute! Let’s say I wanted to make something creative! I would only have 1 minute to do that! THATS JUST CRAZY! ☹️Besides all of those things, I KNOW that messenger kids is a great app for parents who know that they should be able to know and control who and what their kids do when it comes to texting and calling! Thanks for reading my review! It literally means a LOT❤️ (my fingers are about to fall asleep!😂)

I wish the design was had more than one colour and that you don't have to scroll so much to find a contact. I wish it was built for kids of all ages and that I would stop getting multiple notifications for the same message. Also, I wish that the app could do audio calls, not just video calls. Besides that, it's a pretty good app and works quite well.

  • Contacts list parents can see is faulty Nov 26, 2018

    By sjdim
First of all, it’s not easy figuring out how to delete contacts or add new ones once you have finished initial set up. When I finally figured it out (I had to google it, after I tried downloading the app directly onto my phone to see it I could access parental controls that way), finding out that you access this control from you Facebook account, the contact lists for my two kids were not showing all their contacts. I know this because there were a few relatives I was specifically looking for to delete (not for bad reasons on their part, but just because my kids were bugging them a lot), and they show up on the app for my kids, but not for me to delete from my end. I had to go out of the parental controls for each of my kids and then back in again several times and each time a new contact that previously had not shown up, showed up. It’s really weird. And even still on one of my kids accounts, from my end, it says she does not have her dad as a contact, but I know she does as she messages him all the time on there. This issue needs to be fixed ASAP!

This is a good app! It works really well, and I use it a lot. I don't know if this is for all Android users or not, but for some reason I don't have badges or any minigames. I tried to update the app but it didn't do anything. But that aside, this app is great! Edit: You can't delete contacts once you have them, I really wish you could. Also, why can't I see my group? I've created one but can only get into it through notifications. This needs to be fixed.

  • Potential but so many irritating-to-parent functions!!! Apr 7, 2020

    By JessVY
Needs so - seemingly slight- upgrades to make this a positive user experience for all. Parents will get barraged with calls for their kids, and turning notifications on your phone off is of no use. Also, when you set sleep mode this seems to be of no use 1 out of 3 times, the calls keep coming in and also, on your phone. We just fielded about 25 calls in the past half hour. I’m working. It is inane. Also sleep mode - only has one setting. So you can’t have your kid access it from 8-9 am, then 12-1 PM, then 4-6 Pm. Oh no, that would be too simple. You need to go on your own Facebook and toggle the sleep mode on or off 5 times a day. So your kid can just be a zombie with friends. Also, like much of Facebook, it’s impossible to actually send them any feedback... unless you go to their website and aren’t on a mobile device. The plus side is, it’s safe. Beyond that I want to tear my hair out and uninstall it so my kid’s friends can stop calling me. I wound up blocking everyone using the “block caller” on my phone. For each new group, I’ll have to do this I guess.

  • Fine... at first... Oct 26, 2020

I am 10 years old and this app was fine when I first downloaded it. I have most of my friends’ contacts and it’s cool that you can video chat too. But as I kept using it, I discovered so many glitches. First of all, when me and my friends are video chatting, it makes a weird beeping noise and then kicks me out of the call. It happens at least once or twice every video chat. Second of all, (and this isn’t a glitch, it’s just something I don’t like), all of the gifs and most of the filters are so babyish! For example, today it rained where I live for the first time in a while and when I searched for a rain gif, the only one that came up was a dude in a flower costume saying, “Ooooh YEAH!” Like, what? How is that at all related to rain?? So yeah, that’s why I give Messenger Kids a 3-star rating. To sum it all up, it’s childish and very glitchy. And I know I’m 10, so technically I’m still a child, but when I say childish, I mean childish!! 3-stars!! I mean, it’s overall fine, but if you download this app, just know that there are lots of negatives to it, as well.

This app is wonderful! I just have one problem though.. when activating the shortcut, a notification appears saying "shortcut is active" and you can't get rid of it, but since it registers as a messenger kids notification, the shortcut always has the red dot on it and it makes me think that someone messaged me.

This app is fine, as long as you ignore the MANY, MANY glitches. Most of them are on video call, where you might not be able to see the other person, you might not be able to hear them, and the worst: “SoMeThInG WhEnT WrOnG”. The worst part about this is that these are not rare occurrences. These happen almost every call (besides the “SoMeThInG WhEnT WrOnG” message). You might need to call someone about six times to get a glitchless call. On the topic of video calls, the filters. They were ok when I first got messenger kids, but they are getting worse. Soooo much worse. We have a bomb that explodes and makes you puke eggs/flowers and a dog that throws up dog treats when ever you open your mouth (???). They are replacing all the ok ones with newer, crappier ones. I do love the photo editor, as they give you lots of freedom. I do recommend getting this app though, because it is a good app if you can work around the many glitches and low quality filters.

  • WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BUBBLE COLORS D:< Aug 3, 2019

    By Elew1014
Okey so I chat with my friends and us 3 have a different bubble color. And when you go to the message spot then you can see their color along with yours. But this morning when I got on O SEE THAT THE COLOR OF THE PERSON IM TALKING TO IS NOW GRAY! Why is it like this? I DON’T LIKE IT. The colors are what made the whole thing unique and fun! BUT WHY REMOVE THE BEST PART! CHANGE IT BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK! GIVE BACK THE COLORS AND FUN OR IM DONE USING THIS. I used it last night and it had lots of fun color. And I went to our group chat to see what everyone sent. Then I noticed something wasn’t right. The bubbles were gray. So I went to one of my friends and their color was gray. It’s usually light blue though. And my other friend is a purplish pink color. BUT THEY WERE BOTH GRAY. Oh and take note this happened OVERNIGHT. SO THAT’S WHY I RATE 2 STARS. BECAUSE ALL THE FUN WAS TAKEN OUT OF IT. I DON’T LIKE THE GRAY!!! JUST PUT THE COLORS BACK IN! THAT’S ALL IM ASKING FOR! THEN I’D GIVE IT 5 STARS! -I’m not telling you my name ÒwÓ

Not sure why this app is getting rave reviews. I have three kids that wanted to keep in touch with their cousins. It was a pain to set up. It was also very confusing. They’d be trying to call each other and every call would call me also. I have about 15 missed calls from the app. I was also getting every single message they sent- which isn’t a bad thing but kind of tedious when they are just sending stickers to each other. Managing the accts left a lot to be desired. I couldn’t modify or delete any accidentally made chats. So they had multiple chats open and it got confusing for them. Also I would message my niece and it would show up on my daughters phone. She had no idea who wrote them. As a parent I shouldn’t be getting all that. I should be able to modify and see who wrote what in all chats. So as of now I’m going to delete and hope that some major overhaul changes happen. Cause for me it was headache inducing and not ideal for the kids.
