  • Must have app! Apr 3, 2021

    By P4ras
Arena is an amazing game, the game does an amazing job at explaining how magic works, game strategies, and is easy to understand in general. Many people are complaining about lag with large board states, but it is as mentioned, with large board states only. That is to be expected as the game has to keep track of both the opponent’s board state and your board state. This involves so many various mechanics that it would be expected to have lag. The only other complaint that I could possibly think of is acquirement of cards. The wildcard system makes sense, but it is highly slanted towards players who make in game purchases. I think that it should be a bit more friendly towards free to play users but I still think that is an amazing piece of software. But that most recent complaint is of course very minor and is outweighed by the fact that Arena is free, so they have to make money in some way or form to keep it going. So in short, it does have its flaws, but what app doesn’t. I think that the developers have done an amazing job at bringing arena to mobile and don’t get enough credit.

I like it so far. It's a bit buggier than PC and I wasn't able to retrieve my data from Steam to port over and had to start fresh but it's as close to physical MTG cards as you can get on a mobile device. It runs smoothly most of the time on my Moto G Stylus(2021). Of course people are going to whale and spend money on getting a big collection but it's free to play and you can still get a lot of preconned decks free as well as boosters to build your own decks with.

Magic Arena is definitely a good game to play on PC and the idea of it being ported onto mobile devices is no easy task, and I think that for the most part the game looks and feels fine when it works as intended. As of writing the mobile version has been out for two days so hopefully by then the issues I state will be fixed. The only issues I have with Arena on mobile is that the ui is a direct copy of the PC’s version, making the screen seem much smaller than it is which can make it hard for some people to see what to press if they want to access their decks for example. Every time I boot up the game I keep getting a “asset error” when there’s nothing wrong with how stuff looks so I have to wait a bit to load into the main menus. Lastly whenever you tutor for a card or have a large board state the game becomes clunky as you can either type the card you want through a filter or search for it manually and have to use a scroll bar instead of just swiping; with large boardstates the game arranges your cards in a linear row instead of a large square like in the PC version so if you want to activate a creatures ability you swipe to scroll across your creatures which makes the game lag for a bit, and the overall size of what makes the game struggle is yet to be determined as I’ve only encountered this about two times.

Been playing Magic since ‘94 and think the gameplay on Arena is really cool. I wish my internet didn’t forfeit games so often but what can you do? Love the video game, arcade game feel. Maybe you can run subtournaments that level you up through mythic faster if you do well. Miss IRL Magic but this is scratching two itches with the competitive gameplay and video game feel. As someone who used to play a lot of video games, I don’t feel the need to look around. I just play Arena. Okay time to draft. Barely any waiting time for drafts to fire! Very nice and convenient. Final random thought - could be cool to somehow play group games. Like 2-headed giant where the teams can easily talk to themselves (Discord, etc) without opponents hearing. Okay thanks for developing. Keep up the good work. Also would love to be able to trade my uncommon and mythic wildcards for rares. Even if the trade is bad for me. Rares will never catch up to uncommons or mythics so every uncommon and mythic I get from here out is basically useless. Alright that’s it. Rock on
  • Developers need to fix freezing and UI Apr 15, 2021

Played Magic in high school. Decided to give Arena a try. Overall enjoying, I now understand all the game modes and card restrictions, rotation, etc. take some time to familiarize yourself with the basic terminology. Overall I’ve been enjoying my time. I like draft cause it’s more balanced and not these cheese Mill decks and other garbage copy cat decks. The mobile version can be a but frustrating at times. The biggest issue is when the game seems to get hung up, that is I am unable to interact with the game and have to randomly click on the screen until I can suddenly interact with cards again. This needs to be resolved NOW by WotC and developers, who I imagine are taking in millions. I’ve also declared blockers but clicking the “block” button doesn’t nothing, forcing a timer wait. One time I went to examine one of my cards, and the game forced me To play it, costing me the game. So in conclusion I enjoy Arena but there are a lot of obvious issues that needs to be fixed on the mobile version, and never play high stakes games (draft), etc. Also, improve some of the rewards, 5 packs for mythic Rank is just lame, to name one.
  • My favorite app Apr 20, 2021

I’ve played Magic card game for years, and now that it’s finally available for Apple users I love this app. It’s so much cheaper than buying cards, and you never have to wait to play with a real person because they’re always available. Building a deck is easy and the wildcards make getting specific cards that you want simple. Having several different styles of playing keeps the game fresh. I love the little pet mascots, card sleeves, and avatars that you can have, they make the game that much more fun to play. I’ve told all of my friends and family to play it. I like that there’s no option to type out what you want to other players, because it keeps people from being rude. Keeping simple answer buttons like “good game” and “nice!” makes it easy to communicate without the chance of someone being a jerk to you. The daily deals in the shop in the daily achievement goals keep me coming back every single day without fail. This app has reignited my love for Magic the Gathering!

Has the cool feature of how magic is traditionally set up and played in real life. It is also really easy to play and learn. Plus its compatible with the computer version! This makes it a lot easier to play with friends because of its mobility. Definitely would recommend this game if you want to have fun, or even just to waste time.

This card game has popped up in my life multiple times and each one of those times I get SO excited! From being a little kid hanging with my uncles and their friends playing to being a pre teen and finding my cousins cards and starting a club in highschool. I’m now in my mid 20s and have since put my cards in the back of the closet (I tried teaching my wife to no luck.) Finding this game after not knowing it has been on PC for sometime is just amazing! I love the graphics, the overall play and really just the fact that I have this in my pocket!!! The only downfall is the errors. I read in another review that it was just put on in late March so hopefully in the future I can be mid game and not have to worry about being booted out. I just played a match and was kicked out 4 times, reloaded the game and luckily it put me back in the match until finally it read error and I was kicked. I just hope this gets resolved because you really do have a treasure of an app here!

Game is still so janky and to be worth more than 3 stars. Most of the time it runs alright, but dont bother to playing complicated decks. I had a situation where I had a spell doubled and I ran out of time before it let me pay the mana costs and choose the multiple targets, theres latency between presses causing you to double touch things canceling your action. They need to worry about the game running fast if you have to deal with timers rather than worrying about so much animation.

I have always been interested in Magic ever since I was about 11 but I never got around to actually learning the rules. I’m 30 now and I happened to stumble on this mobile game (not knowing I could’ve been playing it on computer all these years). I didn’t know if I was going to be able to pick it up or not. But wow this game is made to really TEACH you the game. You get through a tutorial with multiple levels of increasing difficulty where it walks you step by step through it. And then even after the tutorial is done you can still learn very easily on it. I was struggling with understanding exactly what the mana symbols on the cards meant so I went to the help area and it took me to the official Magic website! Took me right where I needed to go and boom. I’ve become addicted to this game and play it whenever I can. And I’m getting pretty good if I do say so myself lol great great great game

  • Dangerous App !!! Comprimised servers?? Apr 27, 2021

    By GameJunkie2015
This app has some major issues, at first I thought my phone was acting up but I’ve only had this issue while playing this game. 3-4 times now while during a match the game started lagging really bad and then went to a black screen with white lines spinning in a circle as if something was loading but it stated on that screen and completely locked my phone to the point that I couldn’t even force it to shut down or do anything at all. Even if you try to call your phone, it doesn’t ring and no call even shows up on screen, but for the person calling you it rings like normal as if the phone was working normally. I really think their servers are compromised and someone is hacking into players devices and taking control of them. The only way to get my phone to work again was to leave it unplugged until the battery died. This happened for like the 4th time last night and my phone was fully charged, so I couldn’t use my phone at all from last night until 3pm today when the battery finally died. You can’t soft reset it, hitting all the buttons or holding the buttons.. nothing will work except letting your phone die. Please BEWARE! Idk what’s going on but I’ve never had this happen with any app. This happened on an IPhone 8. They really need to fix the app, I really like the game but this is completely unacceptable for a app to takeover control of your device and block you from accessing your own phone. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

This application is terrible. My phone is 9 months old, $700 Samsung. More than capable to run this app. But the game constantly crashes. "Asset Error". I tried reinstalling, but nothing works. I've lost many matches because it will randomly crash and I'll lose my turn, because I'll relaunch and it immediately crashes again. Cannot draft because it's too risky. Cannot enter events either, because I'll lose gems and gold because the crashes make me lose games I might have otherwise won. UNINSTALL

Ui is sticky. Cards move around during targeting and casting, and you can play the wrong thing. Sometimes it FORCES me to wait until the timer runs out, and won't let you resolve onto the next phase, you have to skip to the end of your turn. I've lost ranked matches because of rearranged cards, disconnects, or refusal to let me play a card without making me skip the turn. Enemies land won't appear. Tibalts trickery=2 planeswalkers on round 2.
  • Another Pay2Win app Apr 20, 2021

    By TeeeRekt
I love TCGs. The collecting aspect of the game and challenging other players to see who built the best deck is one of my favorite hobbies. This app however is a clear Pay2Win. You can’t easily progress through gameplay unless you drop $300+ on digital product. Standard is fun, as is Historic and Brawl. But to “collect” cards for standard, you have to open 400+ packs to build a competitive deck. You can’t disenchant like Hearthstone to update decks or build new ones. Only option is to buy more packs. Historic locks you behind a gate to use your wild cards to unlock them or pay ridiculous prices to unlock a few at a time with a FOMO element to it. Mythic wild cards are available once very 18 packs opened (18 days of gameplay/1-pack a day from dailies) and 1 rare wild card every 6 packs (6 days). At the average rate to collect cards for a competitive deck, you would have to farm dailies, every day, for over a year. There is a new set every 3-month. It’s impossible to collect any sets in time for the new set without dropping a lot of $$ on this product. All-in-all, if you don’t mind $300+ every 3-months (new set schedule) and you like a paper magic, this is the app for you. Otherwise, don’t bother wasting your time or money playing this game.

They finally fixed the glitch which is why it gets one more star than my previous review, but the fact of the matter is that this game is still very much still a pay-to-win game with terrible matchmaking that puts you up against players with full sets of mythics even if you are still fresh to the game (to coerce you into spending money no doubt) and cosmetics that you couldn't possibly attain without spending real money. Greed at it's "finest".

Awful. Poorly optimized. Controls are actual trash. First off, no way to lower the graphics settings which is a problem cause this is mobile, why is it the same graphics as the desktop. Second, the audio queues are causing problems because they werent optimized for anything but windows so turning off audio is a must for performance, which is a hprrid place to be. Last, the hand gets auto hidden and causes an issue that prevents spells from being cast because it keeps hiding the hand instead.
  • Complete waste of time and money Apr 21, 2021

    By idk 555555555
I was skeptical about trying this thing on mobile, but I didn’t imagine it could be this bad. It’s like 3 hours of tutorials to even unlock the drafts, no way I could see to skip them, and then when I bought gems to try it I was unable to play a complete 3 games due to crippling lag. The game freezing up is compounded by the terrible timer; even if you restart the app to get it working again it will just pass to your opponent, if you haven’t lost altogether. The timer makes no sense even when the game is functioning; you have a new draft set with a overarching theme of casting instants and creating complicated board states and huge stacks and stopping to read or count or plan ahead to make a wise decision results in this stress-inducing fuse starting off. This probably make sense in Constructed where it’s the same situations over and over again, but Limited is full of novel situations and this kind of rushed game play is unfun and unnecessary. TLDR I spent $20 and about 10 hours just attempting to play a draft and it wasn’t worth it, rather wait for the stores to open again. That’s on an iPad 6; I wouldn’t dream of trying to do a draft on my phone. YMMV.
  • Good game, pretty buggy right now. Apr 5, 2021

Magic has always been one of, if not my, favorite games. I played modern back when the world allowed me to play with paper cards and am now happy to have one more option to play one of the smartest and most cerebral games ever created. Despite this, Wizards has always struggled with UI/UX design on their digital ports. So much of the paper experience relies on understandings of the players regarding targets, triggers and rational choices. The current mobile port of Arena has several flaws which make it virtually unplayable. Some buttons are broken, such as the option to move to the immediately following phase. This makes “auto-pass and pray” the only way to make selections on the same turn an option (incredibly problematic in a game which rewards intricate knowledge of the rules and manipulation of the stack). Further, without a “hovering” cursor, the mobile port currently does not offer an easy way to avoid mid-clicks and mid-targeting. Magic is a great game. The Arena port is a bad port. I hope that this improves substantially in the near future, as it is hard to justify throwing money at a game where I am as likely to lose to a skilled opponent as I am to a visual glitch or bug.

I'm giving it a 1 star and here's why. The game itself is fun, despite running slow at times. No, it gets a 1 star because instead of actually randomizing stuff, like your deck, it uses the most useless, garbage algorithms which basically guarantees that if you want to make sure you always draw enough lands and every card you'll need for any combos, you'll build yet another unoriginal cookie cutter deck and follow the playbook to a T. Being unoriginal is rewarded, while originality is punished.

The buttons on the bottom right of the screen often do not respond to taps. The tap effect (color change) shows when hitting the button but nothing will happen. This has prevented me from attacking and has caused me to lose many matches. Watch out before wasting any money on this game if you have an LG G7.

Amazing. Its Magic in my hands, finally. A portable portal to a magical multiverse where I pit my wits and will against an opponent and the odds in the meta. Its a game that can satisfy my desire to build and compete and optimize and exercise my brain in myriad ways. Its an excuse to buy a nice big phone or tablet for me finally. It plays well on my Galaxy Note 10+.

Works pretty well on my Galaxy s9+. Fair warning, though, a lot of the updates are fairly large, so be mindful of how much space you have before installing. Cross-platform too, so you can use it to play with people on PC. Definitely reccomended if you're missing your deck, or if you got nobody to play with.

I have played magic for years, this a is fun substitute in the mean time (until the pandemic is over) but the game almost feels like a beta at times, almost a third of the time you will lose because your timer runs out due to the game freezing, it’s almost impossible to play for long periods of time because playing in the more fun standard areas slowly puts you up against harder and harder opponents while leaving you with the starter decks that are under powered, so to keep up you will need to make a more efficient deck and that costs wild cards mostly acquired in packs that are difficult to win because your decks are under powered, in the end it feels more like a pay to win game, still I enjoy the difficulty but most of my friends did not and left, just food for though (maybe I’m a masochistic) either way enjoy it while you can and best of luck
  • Great game, only slightly money hungry. Apr 24, 2021

Game is fun, great to learn the phases of mtg. I enjoy it a lot. You can play casually or competitively, multiple modes of each. You can play f2p and actually receive a lot without paying a dime. I have two complaints though. There crafting system isn’t as good as hearthstones’ their competitor (mtg is a Much better game though). Second complaint is competitive modes are all meta decks. If you’re one for competitive, you’ll have to spend a good amount of money to have more than one meta deck(unless you play all day for a month). All in all the game is worth playing and I love it and play quite a bit. Great to be able to play during work if I want. I recommend it and I’ve already recommended it to people. Hopefully they change the crafting, i would be very happy and so would the community.

Lastly whenever you tutor for a card or have a large board state the game becomes clunky as you can either type the card you want through a filter or search for it manually and have to use a scroll bar instead of just swiping; with large boardstates the game arranges your cards in a linear row instead of a large square like in the PC version so if you want to activate a creatures ability you swipe to scroll across your creatures which makes the game lag for a bit, and the overall size of what makes the game struggle is yet to be determined as I’ve only encountered this about two times.

this game is really amazing and fun. the only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because the mobile game crashes too often before the game is Bout to start or during it. I've lost ranked matches and tournaments due to this constant problem. luckily, the game loads up fairly quickly so most of the times I am able to get back in time to not miss a turn, but when multiple, consecutive crashes occur, then it's a guarantee loss due to a missed play. one missed turn can decide if you win or lose.

I’ve been playing Magic since I was a kid and it’s still my favorite card game. I’ve played Arena on PC before and the mobile game is the same game. I love that I can carry my account over and keep my decks. I would give this game 5 stars but there is one small problem. The game is a little bit glitchy.. Texture have a difficult time loading at times. Sometimes the screen will momentarily go black.. nothing game breaking. I’m honestly enjoying my time playing this game and I am aware I’m playing the game one day one launch for mobile.. so I’m sure my problems will be fixed over time. Playing this game on Mobile is a dream come true and honestly I’ve been waiting for this game for a long time. It’s the same card game we all know and love. The artwork is amazing and it’s not p2w you can very easily get new card packs for free. Overall they have done a amazing job porting the game to phones and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.. Keep up the great work!!

My only issue with Magic: The Gathering Arena Mobile is that, whenever you have too many triggers on the stack, it crashes. Nearly everytime. And by too many triggers it can be like 4 triggers. You can log back in quickly though so, that's good. But another problem I've encountered is that my sleeves are all... Gone? They all look like the default sleeve that everyone gets. I have like 5 sleeves but after a few days, they all turned to "default". So that needs a look but otherwise I love it :)

as others have no doubt stated on these reviews this game is pretty much just magic as it was in person but on the phone,HOWEVER,the inability to buy any card you want makes it far easier to start as a beginner because it not only limits the card your opponent may have but it also teaches you how to play when you start the game and will even make you a decks if you play enough, THAT BEING SAID,this game is BIG on the bugs,if you leave the app open your phone will have a stroke, and if you attempt to play on wifi with no data so will you from my experience ,the game will every once and a while make decisions for you that it shouldnt make for you,all in all however it is very fun and i would recommend playing this before using actual cards with people to gain some experience
  • Please FIX Shuffling and Friends list Apr 27, 2021

    By Wags01
Fantastic game! Only issue is shuffling is definitely not random. When you auto generate lands for any deck it’s way below the 30%. ie a 90 card deck should have 30 lands but it only does 24 regardless of how many other cards in the deck. I’ll add more lands in all decks and still will never have more than 3 per starting hand and mulligan matters none. Also first mulligan should be free like in other game types but it’s not in ranked. Next is a little fix when in comparison. We were told not to make new bug reports because the friends list was being fixed. Now that notification is gone and still no fix on the friends list. Do I need to reinstall my game or did you guys give up on that...All in all Fix shuffling and this will definitely change to a 5 star rating.
  • Good, but a few bugs and improvements Apr 20, 2021

    By Jadak Karrde
The app has been nice in being able to get back into playing MTG, however occasionally the app will have a problem where it will start lagging or even just crash in the middle of a match. Also having all the creatures lined up so that you have to scroll back and forth instead of having them in a grid has caused me some issues when trying to scroll over to select the creature I want the card to affect and it selects a random creature in the line instead and doesn’t allow you to confirm your selection, I have lost several matches because of that. Other than that I just wish I could add the physical decks that I already have that are from older sets, even if you have to take pictures of the individual cards.
  • It’s Magic Alright Apr 19, 2021

    By Warrin Peace
I haven’t played a proper magic game in years but it didn’t take me long to get used to the game again thanks to the tutorials they have. Definitely a lot of moments where I’ll sit there and I either deal with the player with the really good deck, mulligan myself to death, or the opponent surrenders because I do something that ruins their set up but when I do get a proper game in which is more often than not I’ll just sit there and all I end up thinking is “yep! That’s magic alright.” So at least they captured that feeling correctly. My only complaints I’ve found so far are that the server has a tendency to give me problems when I want to play, the card options are limited to the most recent sets and there isn’t an EDH mode but the last one is just my preference 🤣

Wizards and the devs did a pretty good job transitioning paper to digital. New players will be introduced to the stack through passing priority. Sliding cards from hand to battlefield feels good and intuitive. There are some issues: UI, while fairly clean, does not have great placement during gameplay. Continue to next step should not have the same placement as accept/ decline dialogue - this leads to the occasional missclick as different buttons occupying the same position will hide behind thumbs. Match making in unranked is a little, well broken isn’t the right word, but favoring the wrong variables. Unranked, I think for most people, is kitchen table magic, or shoebox magic. Often times when you’re playing your jank deck, you’ll get matched against someone testing the latest historic or standard net deck. That’s not how it would work if you rolled into your LGS and just wanted a fun game with your goofy deck that you through together. The match making should probably take power level into consideration better for unranked. The last thing everyone knows, the deck maker is horrible. Overall I’m really enjoying my time with the app.

It's magic on the go, which is great, but there are some glaring flaws. The store is initially vague/confusing about what you are buying, it is expected that you understand what card styles and sleeves are for, and how to use them. You better be absolutely sure you are buying the right thing, cause no refunds on those coins. I Lost coins on the tutorial cause the layout was confusing about what I was supposed to be buying. Also the matchmaking is likely skewed, like most online games these days.
  • Ppl complaining about shuffling... Apr 19, 2021

    By Akuma0521
It’s a CARD GAME. What do you expect? You guys never had a bad draw even when you assumed that you did a good shuffle in real-life trading card battle? Come on, don’t be ridiculous. People in tournaments deal with this ALL THE TIME and they don’t complain because everyone deals with it. Beside that point, devs need to address the issue of “skip” or “pass” function. I can’t pass or skip certain things when the game asks me to especially during pre-combat phase and the timer starts clicking on my end. It’s taking too long and since the skip or the pass button doesn’t work, the only way for me to end this skip or pass function is to press the “Auto-pass” button which is the button with the arrows on it but when I press that button, my ENTIRE TURN ENDS when I still have cards to summon!!! I lost multiple times due to this and it’s frustrating.
  • Good Interface and Graphics - Crashes Regularly Apr 20, 2021

    By Cyberdragon8U
I’ve been playing Arena for about a month now on my iPad. I play at least four games a day to ensure I make my achievements to earn XP and gold. At least once each play session the app crashes and I have to try and rush to restart it and get back into my match before it times out. This is definitely a pay to win game, however the tiered rankings make it so that you can at least compete in the Standard and Traditional Ranked events and hold your own at the lower levels. Sealed and Draft events are fun if you are free to play too, you just won’t be able to participate in these very often as you are grinding out gold and gems. Playing in the non-ranked Standard and Traditional is going to end badly if you are not pumping money into building your deck - you just won’t have access to the mythic and rare cards to be competitive.
  • This needs to be optimized Apr 15, 2021

    By The_Schenkster
I'm extremely happy that MTGA is finally on mobile, but the overall feel is not what I expected. This feels more like a copy/pasted port from PC rather than an experience with mobile in mind. The biggest issue I experience is a lack of steady framerates. I run on an iPhone 8 Plus and I will consistently have dropped framerates and stuttering throughout my matches. Even something as simple as dragging a card out of my hand can take a second to register and animate which completely ruins the immersion. Menus also suffer from the same issue. Tapping on quests, for instance, to read the description is not nearly as reaponsive as it should be. Loading times for menu navigation take much more time than should be necessary. While I love MTGA (especially on PC), the mobile experience drastically needs to be optimized.
  • Love the game, the UX needs major improvements Mar 30, 2021

    By brass75
I started playing Magic: The Gathering in the mid-90s. After I while I put it away because the cards and the counters became too much. I was ecstatic when I found MTGA for my Mac and I love playing it there. I was excited when I saw the iOS version. I’ve been playing on my iPhone and my iPad for a few days now and have been pretty happy on the phone, but on the iPad I have been very frustrated. Some of the issues I’ve run into on my iPad are: 1. Attaching an enchantment to the wrong permanent for some unknown reason, despite my selecting the correct one, the rune was attached either to the equipped creature or to another enchantment that was attached to the creature/artifact (has happened multiple times in different manners.) 2. Being unable to scroll through all the creatures to select blockers when the creatures roll off the edge of the screen. 3. Controls being non-responsive until I exit resume the game. 4. A few crashes (to be fair, it’s crashed on my Mac as well but I feel I should include it here.) I love the game and I’ll keep playing on my iPad, I just won’t play games that matter (ranked, draft, etc.) until these issues are fixed.
  • Good Gameplay but Frustrating Implementation Apr 13, 2021

    By Tina Babar
The gameplay is fun and it's truly impressive how much of the experience they've made work in mobile. However, it still feels a bit like I'm playing a game that's still in beta. There's some bugs, not anything gamebreaking, but still things that are pretty frustrating. Sometimes I won't be able to press buttons when I should be able to. The UX feels a bit clunky at times. I sometimes will grab the wrong card from my hand and complicated board states are a bit of a nightmare. The economy is a bit of a joke, especially the complete bandaid that is "the vault." Overall, this game feels a step below other digital card games. It's great if you already love Magic, but it falls short of more polished games like Hearthstone.
  • THIS GAME NEEDS A PATCH!!!!! Mar 31, 2021

    By No Nickname 54555291
I enjoyed the game, I really did, but I found a bug in the game that could ruin your color challenge run! See, if you complete a challenge, and you happen to finish a daily challenge at the same time, the game will only give you the daily challenge rewards while completely ignoring the replacement cards you should get! Maybe some of you aren’t going to do the color challenges, but I had to make 4 separate accounts before I caught on this problem! I highly recommend that you do the daily and weekly challenges before attempting the color challenges because if you don’t before then there is a EXTREMELY likely chance that you won’t get your rightfully earned cards! This game should earn more stars but until they patch this, it will only get 3.
  • Major lag issue Mar 29, 2021

    By Nighttyger
While for the most part the app works perfectly fine, especially given the constraints of mobile porting, I just got out of a game that I had locked down that I *lost* because the app suddenly started lagging to such an extent that it skipped over my actions without even giving me the option to use them (i.e. skipping over my attack phase) and caused me to lose the game via timeout. This is, of course, *exceedingly frustrating*. My tablet can handle the app fine, and my internet was working as far as I could tell. With no knowledge of how the issue came about, I’m going to have to stick to the desktop version for now, which is a shame. I do most of my gaming on mobile anymore, and I was looking forward to being to add Magic to that group.

  • Amazing game but horrible bug!!! Apr 26, 2021

    By Frozen Planeswalker
I’m giving Arena 2 stars right now because it’s an incredible game but with a game breaking bug. I love magic but I’ve never had the budget to actually put into the hobby and arena has allowed me to play it a lot which is great! Love the effects, the free cards, it’s wonderful. The issue is that this game has bricked my phone for 30 minutes at a time like 7 times over the last couple days. Fully freezes everything. I’ve never written an app review before but I felt someone needed to alert to this bug! If the phone turns off while mid animation, just from not being interacted with for a second, it’ll completely freeze if you reopen the game, and lock you out of being able to restart your phone. Every app will be frozen, and you won’t even be able to reboot for at least ten minutes. I have an iPhone 11 with the latest software, this shouldn’t be a factor. I absolutely love the game, but I can’t give it higher than 2 stars with this bug at its core continually breaking my phone!

Its the same game as the pc version and uses the same account which is great. But there are some pretty glaring bugs, most of which are in the interface. Almost every game there will be a hangup where I'm unable to play a card despite having priority and sufficient mana to do so, I can fix it by dragging another card but not playing it, and then going back and playing the card I originally wanted to, but it's a lot of small things like this that add up and keep me from giving above 2 stars

Magic is a great game, but this is not, sure its fun to play online but the platform is extremely glitchy and very laggy. You will lose games because of this. The random shuffler is not random. I can't tell you how many times I've taken a mulligan only to be dealt the exact same hand or how frequently I just draw land over and over from the deck. Too often to be really random. I wouldn't suggest investing any money until they invest some time into cleaning it up.
  • It's fun, but ... Apr 12, 2021

    By wraithnyte
I've been a MTG player for a long time, and this game has a lot going for it. I play the mobile version, and it's been a refreshing change of pace to be able to play against anybody, any time. However - the shuffler on this game is otherworldly, atrociously bad. While it can happen (rarely), drawing three lands to open a game (out of three draws), when you started with three, or NOT drawing any lands to open a game (out of up to five draws), when you start with two or three, is not something that should be common. And yet, it happens about every third game (though my frustration makes it seem to happen more often). Frankly, this is the only reason this app gets such a low score. It makes it extremely not fun. I love the various modes (I play mostly standard, trying to get my wild cards to build a decent historic deck), and have been enjoying the Magic interaction. I've done multiple draft formats, ranked standard, normal standard, fun play, historic (once, it was not great, but that's because my deck was Standard), and brawl (I don't really like the brawl format). While not ideal, it can be done free-to-play (this is how my son does it), but spending a little money (I've spent $25 since I started playing, when the mobile version came out) can help get cards a little faster. It's just like MTG - buy boosters and open cards. It's ridiculous to think this would be a free-to-play game all the time.
  • Shuffling and card draw mechanics is terrible May 4, 2021

    By katunaka
Got the game all was going well. Moved up to platinum in a day. Once I hit platinum and almost to diamond the problems started. I run a series of decks. And every deck started getting mana flooded of mana screwed consistently. When I would run the mill deck i started going against 200+ card decks every game. Once I went all the way back down the platinum tier 4 the issue stopped. And started again once I hit tier 2-1 Maybe it’s to stop the regular Joe’s from going to mythic and mopping the floor of WOC pro players who have sponsors maybe I’m just getting unlucky every time for the past 2-3 months. Or maybe their “thoroughly tested” algorithm isn’t so tested after all. I get that bad hands happen and bad games happen but it’s so consistent when the issues start that isn’t too coincidental. Going to turn 8 with no lands on a scry/card draw deck and going thru Half your deck to find no lands is highly unlikely yet happens a lot at platinum tier 1.
  • The Gameplay is Incredible, the UI is a Disaster Apr 17, 2021

    By BlackberryDragon
It’s Magic the Gathering. It’s the card game the the richest and deepest gameplay in existence, both in game, and outside with deck construction and strategy. But it’s not adapted to mobile as well as it needs. The cards, even when zoomed in, are too hard to read. The card text is too small. I literally cannot read what the cards are. I know what my cards do thanks to having been playing Arena on PC all along, but if it’s a card I need to read, I cannot physically read it. This gets worse and worse the more complex a given card gets. Make the cards, at least when zoomed in, larger. I NEED to read what’s going on during deck construction, and in game, with my cards, and especially with my opponents’. The cards are too small for iPhone. As it stands, the game is unplayable. The app itself is clean, though it desperately needs to launch its updates via the AppStore so I can download while the app is closed. The UI is actually pretty as well. But the fonts were left from the PC, and minimal effort has been put in to make the UI mobile sized. I can’t rate this port of an otherwise incredible game more than two stars.
  • Love it, but mobile has major bugs Mar 30, 2021

MTG Arena is great on the PC, but major bugs on mobile. Playing on a iPad Pro which should have plenty of screen space, but if you have too many cards out they start to disappear off screen and when you scroll and try to cast it’s almost impossible to do so as they scroll back before you can target. Then, once you get to a higher number of cards on the battlefield, you suddenly are completely unable to attack - either individually or with all attack - attack button totally unresponsive but no attack button worked just fine. Turns a winning game into a loss as you are essentially frozen. Won’t be playing on mobile again until the bugs get fixed.

UNINSTALL

YMMV.

  • Not fully the same.. and it literally causes my phone to just stop working Apr 30, 2021

I got this game initially because I haven’t been able to play magic since the pandemic started. Figured it would be fun but : the randomization at times of cards doesn’t seem so random. My phone literally will freeze and won’t work. Can’t turn it off or reboot it and I e never had this problem till I downloaded the game. It’s a brand new iPhone 11 Also.. I’m confused at how the mechanics are different for certain cards in game compared to if you played the game in real life. It is frustrating beyond belief when you try to use an instant to destroy enchantments on an enchantment and the game doesn’t allow it but then it allows for your opponent to do it back to you with the same exact set up. These glitches don’t make the game fun and it was honestly enough for me to not want to play. Who likes being in the middle of a 20 min game just to have some weird glitch happen or for the game to not run like it would it real life face to face. I’m done with this app and It’s not worth supporting. Get the physical cards and play in person with people because the amount of time some people purposefully take on their turns on here can be frustrating. Especially when people purposefully leave a game and then you have to sit for 2 minutes for there time to be up to lose. I’d rather be able to talk to someone then sit there and hit the your turn button repeatedly.

DO NOT spend money on this game. You will keep losing matches from crashing. Been happening for months. Everything is up to date, etc. It keeps happening: crash during game or loading screen then continually crashes while trying to reload into the match causing you to time out. I'm s huge Magic fan but this is ridiculous.
  • Great game, but don’t play on an iPhone 8 May 3, 2021

I played this game on a busted old PC for a couple years and I was used to performance issues but I was using an old laptop so I wasn’t complaining. When it came out on iPhone I was excited to play on a more stable device. When it was first was launched I was surprised how well it worked. Sure there were large board states that got laggy and the ap crashed a few times, but I would just reopen the ap and it restarted right away. Then with the latest release and a big update these performance issues went from a minor annoyance to downright dangerous for your phone. Now this ap will actually lock up and crash the entire iOS, not just the ap. All sorts of weird things have been happening to my phone since the update even when I’m not playing the game. This ap faulty and I’m legit concerned about my phone which I rely on for my small business. Do not play if you have an iPhone 8 until they address this major bug.
