This app has everything I need to memorize lines quickly by listening. I love how easy it is to record the script and how I can change pitches to distinguish my lines from other characters. I use it for every project I’m in and it’s very worth the price, especially since it’s just a flat fee with no subscriptions or ads involved. It’s just a simple tool that works if you memorize by listening. I can now review my lines everywhere I go without seeming like a total nut talking to myself. I also really like how you can choose where to gap the lines so you can start to test yourself more and more. Overall I’m super pleased with this app and it’s a must for actors in my opinion.
  • Fantastic app! May 31, 2018

I am actually using this to learn Spanish. It is fantastic. Very user friendly once you learn the basics - which doesn’t take long. I record a series of sentences in Spanish and can adjust the looping and the gap for review. So helpful! Also, if I make a mistake recording a line, it it super easy to rerecord and fix it. Since the other sentences are separated out, I don’t have to rerecord all of the other sentences, just the one I need to fix. This allows me to work on very targeted sentences and word forms while I am doing chores, going for a walk, or anything. Also, for $4, it is SO worth it! Thank you so much for this app!

I purchased this app about two years ago and I love it. I am in my third year at college as a theatre major and I would not be able to get everything done without this app. Twice now, I have stepped into a show super last minute (1-2 weeks before opening) and this app has helped me to get off book in about 2 days. I'm sure with more frequent use I would be able to do it even quicker. As my roommate says, I "swear by it." I use the app to learn my lines for every show I'm in as well as scenes for class, and it makes learning lines super easy. I have not been able to figure out how to import a script, but I find that speaking the lines to record them helps me learn them even faster, although it is a little time consuming to get the app set up for each new scene or show.

I started using this app a year ago, when I had to learn a two-hander show in 2 weeks. Helped me enormously! I’ve used it on every show since then. Works WONDERFULLY! I usually learn off the page and in rehearsals - this is such a welcome addition to memorization. Now I can walk around and run lines with earphones - do housework - walk around the city - run lines in car with Bluetooth - great for sitting in traffic! Interface takes a little time to learn - but WORTH IT - and many options for playback - other character line then ‘gap’ where you speak your lines - or other character, then gap, then recorded line (my favorite), other options as well. And speed thru capability for fast ‘Italian’ run. Also great for monologues - just break it into chunks/beats and record each as ‘separate’ line. Works like a charm. Also app developer has been very responsive with any questions & suggestions. Everyone should use this! Get off book quicker and easier!!

I’ve been wishing there was a program that I could run my lines on my own- this ap exceeded my expectations. Developer thought of everything- easy to use and record the script (don’t rush- you’ll need the right timing once your off book!), tons of playback options to help you transition from learning the lines to just running them, easy to delete or change lines if there are any script changes, you can flag a line you’re having trouble with, etc. bought the full version and I’ve been sharing it with all of my actor friends!

There are a few things you may need to do, to make this work. If the recording using the default settings doesn't work, change it to the old format, that should give a better playback volume. Also, if you have a headset with mic, use that to record, so you can have the phone on the table whilst reading the script and pressing the buttons, as it can get messy trying to do it all on your lap. But once you've got around that niggle, the app works as described and I'm very happy with it.

Everything about the app seems perfect but right off the bat there's a glitch. I can not select the script from the main page and customize the characters (a significant feature). The glitch makes me leary of investing the time to record the script. I've contacted the developer. I'm willing to change the review pending a fix. Update: the developer was very quick and willing to help. Yes, it's a minor glitch but one he was able to solve and says he'll work on the update. This app is the best of the kind and has support as well!
  • Great, easy to use app for memorization Aug 20, 2018

I’m a professional actor and I use this app almost every day. The interface is not super self-explanatory, but once you understand it, it is incredibly easy to use. You can play back with a gap for your lines, you can prompt yourself, etc. I often record a scene partner and use them as the other side, but it’s also great for when you need to run lines and you don’t have anyone around. It’s the best app for memorization that I have found and is well worth the money. No frills, but excellent. Five stars.

I've used this for every show I've been in for the past 7 years. It really works. There is one bug that drives me crazy-- when your screen locks or you go away from the app, when you go back into the app it sends a signal that you're hanging up a phone call (you'll hear the hang up sound) and gets stuck on the line it was playing; sometimes it also crashes. Other than that, there are some UI/UX improvements that could be made, like making it possible to move multiple lines around scenes instead of one-by-one. But overall, this app has helped me a lot!

I have been using it for four years. I keep finding new ways to use it to help me at different stages in my memorization of scripts. I’m sure I’ll keep finding new things after this. I can’t imagine doing it any other way as I am not a visual learner. I can use it anywhere anytime to review which I do before each performance. Takes me about an hour to do my lines as lead in a show.

Doesn't play back the lines properly, it just stops playing halfway through my line. Clearly not working for android and should only be bought if you are an iphone user. Total garbage for Android users and should be pulled from the store.

Poor, poor, poor. While the concept is brilliant and the bits that work, work well, there are frustrations that have me looking elsewhere: 1. LL cuts out when a reminder pops up on my phone. Just stops dead. 2. Can't rename a script - its 'New script' for ever. 3. Can't create a second script at all. The only way I can record another script is to delete the existing and record the new, line by line. Bad luck if I want to retain them both, or heaven forbid 3 at once!

WHY IS THE SOUND PLAYBACK SO LOW?!?!?! I used to use this app SO much on my old iphone. I must have recommended this app to every actor I've ever met. It's that good. Made for actors with all the features you'd need. Just switched to a samsung S10 (which I love) but what's up with the android version of this app? Recorded audio is soooooo quiet that it's useless. I've tried recording in various ways and it's still so quiet. Why????? PLEASE FIX THIS. Otherwise the app is dope.

Since upgrading to a Samsung S10 the sound on playback mode is inaudible. I notice I'm not the only one with this complaint (different phones too). Please advise. I loved this app before and hope it's not a ploy to encourage use of different apps now its bought and paid for.

App doesn't contain the speed up/slow down feature. Feel like I paid for a partial app. Response from the developer: "Unfortunately the speed up and slow down feature is only available on Apple devices as Android does not provide that capability. The speed up and slow down feature is such a small part of the app, and it doesn't really affect how it works at all."

I can hardly hear anything on my samsung s9 even with head phones and my volume maxed out and the setting turned on for samsung and pixel phones. There isn't an easy way to skip back or ahead on lines. When I try to open the full instructions I get an error message saying the page is missing, same with the FAQs page. So far very unimpressed.

when I went to play after recording none of the audio played back in play mode, all my character lines disappeared and most of the audio was silence. no easy way to even report bugs. it kinda sorta works but too buggy. nothing like wasting an hour and money.

I paid for this app because of the ability to change the pitch of lines which weren't mine, so I could differentiate between them. there seems to have been an update which removed this functionality, making it pretty much useless for me. could you bring this back please!

This app was the app that I would have invented if I were an app maker. It’s as if my mind was read. It’s amazing and does so many things. Download it. I took away a star because it’s quite confusing and not intuitive and feels like there’s a bunch of extra steps involved to do simple things, but it does its job very well and does exactly what I need it to do. The option to select different ways in which the text is played back with gaps or no gaps is the gold here.

    By Jehevdjdkfhevjwdihdycec
I really like this app. I use it to memorize lines for show I’m in, auditions, and lots more. But one thing that realllly bugs me about it is that you can’t organize your script names in the order you want them to. The app organizes them alphabetically which is NOT helpful at all when you can a bunch of past scripts on there and you have to scroll to get to a script you’re currently working on. Just change that and I’d be completely happy with the app.
  • So Helpful Mar 15, 2021

I’ve been using this app for years! It’s so great and has helped me on hundreds of auditions at this point. I have one request though! DEVELOPERS- please add a feature to loop whatever scene the user is currently in. This will make the app so much more helpful. I usually want to get off book one scene at a time and end up having to run all of my scenes at once. Thanks :)
  • Please FIX Aug 24, 2020

    By AreWeNotEntertained
I use the app constantly to practice for my many classes or auditions. However. There’s a recent bug I can’t overcome. When selecting A/B areas of the script, trying to set B at the end of the script simply doesn’t work. The application acts as though someone is trying to scroll the script up and down, rather than set the B marker.

App still has the issue of skipping over the other characters' lines when audio is connected via Bluetooth. To see that reviews were mentioning this over a year ago as of 01/19/19 and nothing has changed, might be a sign the developers have abandoned this app.
  • Pretty good Mar 15, 2018

By pittsburgh's own little bleeding heart
Except it keeps disconnecting from my Bluetooth headphones. I switch to another app and they connect just fine, but as soon as I switch back to linelearner the connection vanished. It's a little weird walking around with your own voice playing out of your phone. Also, the send feedback button just kicks you out of the app. Otherwise pretty good. Slight learning curve as elsewhere mentioned, but you'll have that with anything.

Super useful for learning lines but quite buggy. Can't add scenes on the scene page, the app quits every time I try. Renaming scenes often has the same effect. If those bugs were removed, 5 stars for sure.

when I went to play after recording none of the audio played back in play mode, all my character lines disappeared and most of the audio was silence. no easy way to even report bugs. it kinda sorta works but too buggy. nothing like wasting an hour and money.

I have an Android (Samsung S9) and I've watched all the tutorials and I cannot get the PDF to upload!! I am beyond annoyed and I purchased this app. I don't even see the option now to enter the text manually!! Please advise ASAP!!

I paid for this app because of the ability to change the pitch of lines which weren't mine, so I could differentiate between them. there seems to have been an update which removed this functionality, making it pretty much useless for me. could you bring this back please!

Not as reported. Will not read to voice downloaded content. Only downloads via google docs. You have to voice and record all characters. Tone doesn't change. No way to delete mistakes. Wasted $3.99 doing this, and can't get a refund now.
