  • Great strategy game with steep learning curve but well worth it Apr 18, 2020

    By jmacfarlan
Great game, 5 stars but just have an issue with the online invite system to play with friends. I’ve started playing Istanbul with some friends online but we seeing issues with the invitation system. There are 5 of us and we are all friends online in the app. When someone sets up a game and invites the others we all seem to get an iPhone notification for the invite but after clicking that and going into the game there is often no game invite showing in the lobby so cannot join the game. When we look at alerts (the bell icon) we can see an alert about being invited to a game but there is no way to join. Sometimes it works but usually with 5 people at least one person doesn’t get the invite properly. Please help as otherwise we love the game

I own the cardboard version of the game and I loved it so I was excited to pick up the digital version. The app very well done with one major flaw. Asynchronous play doesn't notify you when it's your turn. Most of my digital table top gaming is done asynchronously with friends and the fact that there isn't a notification means the games frequently get forgotten. If you don't care about asynchronous play though, I would highly recommend. The app is polished and the game itself is fantastic.

Very very well done port of a fun Euro style game. The tutorial is a real help to newcomers, and the AI is balanced. If you start on easy, you will soon learn not only the mechanics of the game, but strategy. I really enjoy the achievements as well. Oh how I wish they would add the expansions as in app purchases...buying that would be a no brainer. Well worth the $6.99 cost, especially considering that the physical game costs so much more, and you can p,ay without worrying with getting a game group up!

No issues so far. I've only played one game online. There's definitely enough people playing this game. The only problem has been that, I'm new to Instanbul, and the Tutorial was terrible. Its too 'touch here, then touch here' instead of telling me all options for play. I was so confused during the Easy game afterwards and had to use the i bubbles alot for help. I used the in-game rulebook for actually learning how to play.
  • A little tough on smaller screen sizes. Nov 28, 2018

I’m a huge fan of the board game and am happy to have found this for IOS. I’m not sure what could be done differently, but I find that I have to really get close to my screen to play this game well since strategy depends upon looking at the current states of each position on the board. Things like seeing how many assistants are left in a stack require zooming in and out. It’s still fun, but not a super easy experience on a smaller phone (iphone 6/7). Note to developers - the small market doesn’t deduct the right amount of resources when you purchase the first tiles. It should cost two and only deducts one from the inventory.
  • Great game, good app Apr 26, 2019

I've played half a dozen games now and haven't had any problems with gameplay of app stability. However, I think there are a few small issues that if resolved would make this a great app. First, the turn notifications don't follow the ios notifications setting, instead they're hidden under the "my account" settings. Second, there are a ton of loading screens when playing an online game. My iPhone XS takes about 15 seconds across two loading screens to load the game after tapping the notification, and the same reload happens to go to sleep in the middle of taking a turn.

Great game love both the board game and the digital edition. I wish the expansions we're playable, DLC or free. My only complaint for the implementation of the game is the UI is a bit clunkey with multiple confirms for some actions.

This is an excellent port of the Istanbul board game. I wasn't too familiar with the game, though, and the tutorial got me up to speed without overloading me. Beautiful art, great gameplay and nice UI make for a wonderful app and well worth the few dollars they're asking. Any chance for the Istanbul Dice Game, which my group actually prefers to regular Istanbul? If not, we'd love the Istanbul expansions. Thank you for this great app, typical of the work, energy and passion of Acram Digital.

Best board game app I've played since Catan! Both single player and multiplayer are great between android and ios. IRL there are 2.5 DLCs but sadly they are not on the app. I would pay for them immediately if they existed.

This has been an excellent app version of the board game. We play it frequently as it is much faster than setting up the actual board. I have never been any issues with bugs or crashes. My only request is that they would add the expansions to the app.

I love this game. You must have an eye for detail. Which makes it disappointing when the when the designer miss some basics. I just played a game where when the second ai comes into a sector and doesn't give me 2 monies. Some of the select options should be more user friendly. Take for example the smuggler: pick a good then click take then select a good to discard then click to discard. Why not select what u want and what you give a away with 1 button confirmation? Another silly 1 is the 0 move
  • Good Implementation ok Good Mechanics Sep 14, 2018

    By Otakir
The game Istanbul has interesting mechanics. This app makes playing it intuitive. However, I uninstalled it because it depicts no women; it’s exotifying of Turkish people and society; and has the thematic element of sending the other players family members to prison which pairs poorly with the previous. On the whole it makes me feel a bit icky, and so avoidably so. Good game otherwise and a good app.

A great port from the tabletop boardgame. It's a very good game and an excellent AP based on that game. If you like the boardgame you will love this AP version.

We have board game night with our friends and first started playing this game with our friends. It’s one of our top favorite games we’ve played so far and we’ve played our fair share of them. The app is just as fun but I wish they would add the mocha and letter expansion!! So much more fun!

Fantastic Implementation of a Great Game! Everything about this app is excellent. Great AI options, intuitive UI, nice music and artwork. Excellent work!
  • Great port of a great game! Jan 13, 2019

Genuinely impressed by this port. No info is hidden, the music and graphics are crisp and clean. None of that slowdown featured in other board game ports. And of course, Istanbul is a phenomenal board game. Don’t listen to the silly reviews saying they didn’t implement the rules correctly. Clearly some people were playing with house rules and didn’t know it. I highly recommend this port and game.

Decent game but only thing I would like to see a custom icon for the notifications. It isn't that hard to make it one specific for the game and not just a blank square.
  • Some Issues, But Mostly a Good Game Jul 12, 2018

    By Lil' Child
The game plays close to the board version, but there are some mistakes. When the game starts you shouldn’t be getting a free bonus card. When you visit the mosques, the game only subtracts one resource instead of the full price of buying a mosque The game will not run on older iPads that cannot be updated to the current OS

Great game. Would be nice to have a way to go to next game without having to exit to lobby and also notifications don't always work properly like clearing if you don't go to lobby or settings after take your turn etc.

no idea what the game is like so far, the tutorial is utterly mystifying. it doesnt explain what is happening other than you have to get rubies. somehow by trading goods? which you get somehow? I play lots of modern boardgames and this is a bad tutorial. it assumes people already know what they're doing.
