  • Really Fun, But Needs a Tutorial Jul 25, 2020

I was looking forward to this game since I saw Rodney Smith demonstrate the physical dice game on his YouTube series “How It’s Played.” However, my local board game store never got it in stock and I never got around to ordering it from Amazon. When the digital version finally debuted, I was really excited to finally get to play it, but by then I had forgotten how to play it. Well, the iOS version doesn’t exactly help that, the “tutorial” is just a quick overlay and the manual requires tons of scrolling through text. I rewatched the How It’s Played video and was able to jump right in. Once I got started playing, I quickly fell in love with the game. While I would love to have all of the maps available, I do appreciate then replayability and having to choose your next one carefully. I sat down with the intention of playing one game and before I knew it, I had completed 6 games and unlocked multiple maps. Definitely going to be playing this game for awhile.

I love this interpretation of the roll and write game. I like the idea of advancement, but it's a little unclear how to get extra stars. I feel like I'm playing pretty well, but am still only getting one star in each level. The tutorial was also not that helpful. I learned more by just playing more. There are also a few typos, but that's just nitpicky. Overall, great effort!

I rarely rate games anymore but I so surprised and excited about this. The op game was terrible if you didn’t have the wooden pieces from Imperial Settlers to help you track how many resources you had. This app is even easier and very fast playing. One of the best roll and writes!

So far, so good. I bought the physical game, but was on the fence to peel through the solo player sheets. Now I don't have to! The game is easy to learn from the app itself. It is purely the solo experience as far as I can tell (I have only played a couple of levels), and I hope multiplayer options will be in its future. But as it is now, it is great.

Sadly, when automatically offered a reroll (Canteen) in Settlement #2, it is not possible to view your play area to be able to better decide how to proceed. Working mechanics is already in place on other screens (tap and hold outside of the dialog box to hide it temporarily). Why in some place but not in another? :^(

Lost in the tutorial, right off the start. Tried again. Have no idea what the tutorial is asking me to do. Descriptors are vague, visual cues are absent.

I loved the game, it's a perfect implementation of the physical copy for solo gaming. There's a few bugs that I think it'll be corrected on future releases, like sometimes the dice roll animation is different from the final results. Let me give some suggestions 1. Add multiplayer, pass and play and online (multiplataform, my best friend play on IOs) 2. The Leaderboards should also be for each settlement 3. If you could let us "cheat" to choose the booms in each game it would be awesome. Sometimes I just restart a game when I don't find the boom I wanted :D 4.In the settlement leaderboard, it would be nice if we could see the booms used by the leaders. Thanks a lot for a great game.

Nice. I haven't played the phisical version, but it's a good game, and quite challenging. The tutorial is not very good unfortunately, but reading the manual can help. Also, why can't you undo the favor token choice? Btw, when are we getting an Android (or even PC) version of the original Imperial Settlers game? I'm really looking forward to it!

Fun, and a good selection of new levels. However there is way too much grinding to open up new levels. I agree there should be a challenge to progress, but this is way too steep. Also it would be nice to have a multiplayer/AI mode.

Really good implementation overall. Wish the cloud save functionality was working so my progress would follow me between iPhone and iPad. When they fix this it will be a 5 star rating.

Good implementation of a great quick game! This will be perfect for having mobile when waiting for things (lines, doctors, etc.) I'd love to see a "house rule" option to enable/disable some of the boons.

Very much like the paper game. There are some things that irritate me though. Why can't I see any of my scores except for the highest score? Why can't I play against an AI? Or another person (pass and play or both of us with the same app)? Hopefully an update is in the works.
