I have used hurdlr for an entire year now. I am often going to jobs all over my area. It is quite convenient how hurdlr passively tracks your trips and allows you to either manually choose if it was for business or personal but it also allows you to store frequent trips that are automatically categorized. If you also link your finances Hurdlr will do the same for your business/personal purchases! Hurdlr then compiles all info needed for tax filing. It is well worth having for any 1099 worker!

  • Perfect for Taxes! Apr 18, 2018

As an UBER driver I was recommended to keep track of my expenses and mileage most especially. When I started UBER a friend recommended Hurdlr not knowing of what I really had in my hands until tax day came around. I didn’t know how to use it very much throughout my first six months but I was always helped by the hurdlr Team within 15 minutes of messaging them to help on an area. They would walk me through every step to use the app as best for my purpose. I tracked my miles as I drove, kept receipts saved by taking a picture and saving them in the app as well as my Cloud. When time came to do my taxes the app creates an Excel spreadsheet with different tabs of your expenses, mileage, separated by either Personal or Business. With the totals of amounts at the bottom very well detailed for your tax preparer or Hurdlr can also do your taxes for you. I’ve been very happy to of been recommended this app to track my expenses and mileage and for the fee of 50$ and tax deductible it was worth every penny. The perfect app for taxes:) and your business Totally recommend it for you to aid in your Business!

Ok, most of this app is great. Unfortunately it is lacking the most basic feature of any app, the SEARCH FUNCTION. The app has no search function so I can't search my hundreds of transactions for a specific one. That's only available on the website. Really? The whole purpose of this app is exspense tracking, and I should be able to search those exspenses without needing a computer. For the price, this needs to be added ASAP, or I won't be renewing.

I use Square for the transactions that come into my business. I bought this app because it said that it works with Square and I wanted it to be as easy as possible. I was loving the app but I did notice that the square integrations were a little bit off (lower) than what my actual sales were that day. I couldn’t figure out why it was doing that but all they had to do was ask customer service what was going on to see if they could help me. It turns out when you integrate with Square, Hurdlr will only track the card swipes but not the cash transactions. So all I had to do to fix a problem was unlink square and I just use my bank account and any deposit that square sent to my bank account popped up on the app so it works just the same! Ashleigh from Customer Service helped me fix the problem and now this app is perfect for my business! 10/10 would recommend.

I didn't want to pay a fee for tracking my mileage, until I tried Hurdlr free for 5 days. And, I really don't know how I would've gotten by without it! It not only tracks mileage, but other expenses, like gas and cell phone bill. Plus it tracks income and actually tells me exactly what I currently owe in taxes. I love this app, and gladly paid the fee, which is very affordable anyway.

  • Unbelievable! Aug 23, 2020

Just started using this this app 4 days ago. Changed all the settings after purchasing the program as recommended to track ALWAYS. My first trip registered fine. Was using my bicycle for my first day of work after driving 850 miles to get to it. At the end of the day I realized that it was recording everything! Didn’t want to track my bike mileage. That’s good I guess. Notifications showed over 170 trips. At least that worked. Also been driving over 2 hours one direction for the last two days. Over an hour the day before. Today I finally broke down to categorize these trips AND they were not there! Not sure where all those bike trips went. I cleared all my notifications this morning, including everything not related to HURDLR. Maybe that’s a bug. Not sure, but I’m done anyway. Only my first trip which was registered even though it showed up as 3 or 4 because when you stop for gas or a SHORT break it stops and starts a new trip. This app actually made my life harder. WOW! Canceling my trial/purchase immediately!

Great when it works. Auto tracking has a mind of it's own. If you don't check up on it, it will suddenly stop working and you will not be tracking when you think you are.

  • Glitches, Faulty Software Very Frustrating Feb 17, 2020

    By Ldube
I have been using this tax receipt software for nearly one year. I have found far too many glitches, along with missing, incomplete, and erroneous data on expenses with linked financial institutions. Hurdlr did send out a notice on one of these being CapitalOne, but I discovered numerous discrepancies with another one of my major financial institutions. As a result, I have to manually enter missing receipts which first required me to cross reference 12 months of bank statements from EACH of the 3 financial companies with the expenses appearing in my Hurdlr account. I have found numerous missing, legitimate expenses. This has taken an inordinate amount of time of which I do not have. It feels like I am constantly in the Chat Room trying to get answers and reporting new glitches all the while I still wait, 2 weeks out and counting, for a response from Tech Support. I would not recommend this program despite a recommendation from NAR.

  • Wasted $80. Horrible Support. Screwed Feb 27, 2019

    By BilliHale
I’ve never written an App Store review before but this experience was so frustrating that here I am! I paid $7.99 for this app monthly for 11 months so that it would track my Uber income, expenses, and mileage in preparation for tax season. When I signed in to categorize my the information I hadn’t gotten to yet, every single thing from 2018 was gone and inaccessible. I contacted support over a week (who I had to message back to back twice because they were not responding to me) just so they could tell me that nothing was tracked (duh, obviously!). When I requested a refund since the app did literally nothing for me, and since I’m pretty lost now that it’s tax time, the support person Ashleigh, who didn’t reply to my refund request for 3 days until I emailed again, referred me to Apple’s refund page. Apple deemed me ineligible for a refund, so now I’ve lost $80 and all the information I was relying on the app to track. Be wary!

Love how easy Hurdlr makes it to keep track of my expenses. Everything pulls in right from my bank account and credit cards for me to categorize. I really like the new mileage tracking elements they added recently like the little map that shows where I went and the ability to name addresses, just makes keeping track of everything way easier. Hurdlr makes record keeping fun!

  • Don’t rename your businesses....beware. Mar 18, 2019

    By bradleydiggs
Awesome, awesome app. But buggy in the sense of renaming your business - it kind of holds on to the old one and associated clients. Even after you delete them as well. Putting in a new business and starting fresh doesn’t work either, because it hangs when you try to change the old business and client to a new one in an associated task such as a mileage trip, etc. Update: the Hurdlr team has fantastic customer support and is working on this issue via chatting with them inside the app. Updating to 4 stars due to fantastic customer support. Differences between Hurdlr and Taxbot: Hurdlr had a MUCH nicer interface. Hurdlr estimates quarterly and annual tax payments (Taxbot does not). Taxbot attaches PDFs of captured receipts to reports (Hurdlr provides reports in spreadsheet form, and images of receipts are linked with a web URL). You can upload receipts early (before your bank account shows them) in Taxbot and it will auto match the receipt and transaction. In Hurdlr you’ll need to leave the receipt in your camera roll for a day or two until the transaction shows up. Combined these two would be the perfect app!

Great app. Very useful. Except, when you get a notification and you're able to tag it as business or personal, it still pulls you into the app. The app opens and if it still doesn't recognize the item as something usual, you still have to swipe it to the category. If I'm given the option to tag it as business on the notification bar, I should not have to waste time having the app open and still having to tag the item. It's very annoying. It interrupts other things that I'm doing.

  • Great App - Hope to upgrade soon Jun 18, 2018

    By sad-pro-user
I would live to see a data cache option for entering cash-inflow items and having them calculate offline in the free version. I am a bit uncomfortable w putting personal finance info into 3rd party cloud storage for privacy and security reasons so am not quite there yet for the upgrade version even if my budget was ready, which it is not quite yet. But I am enjoying using the app to have more convenient to use than a spreadsheet. I hope the developers continue to focus on security and privacy while making more data processing available on the free version (while holding back tax data functions for paid) for the slow adopters like myself. I've worked w tech over 45 yrs but am conservative w privacy & security! But I like & trust this app so far more than Intuit quickbooks !! I may never move off Excel files i can secure offline but this app will help store business spreadsheet data conveniently on the fly and estimated tax payment display is also a big plus for the free version! Well done to the developers!

I gave this to four star because there does not seem to be a way to add your own categories of expenses. That would be extremely helpful and I'm surprised it's not there in the paid app. But I do very much like this app and it does what I need! Please consider giving the ability to add custom categories in future releases!

  • Love this app! Great for self employed! Nov 16, 2018

    By Amberlpeterson
You can use it free! They have a premium but if you don’t mind doing everything manually it works great! My only complaint is they don’t have a search option. I’m a hairstylist and like to be able to look up past clients on my I come section and there’s no easy way to do it, except scroll or somehow find out when they were in to scroll to that date. Besides that it works great! Can track mileage and determines how much you would get for a tax deduction for it. Can track your business expenses and put them in categories. And can track income and you can put your clients right in there. Also has the capability of estimating how much you’ll have to pay in taxes! And has reports you can look at for time periods you want to select for income and expenses, and those are all broken down for you too. Overall, very happy with the app! Just wish searching for clients or past expenses was easier.

Loved this app as it was easy to use and would track two vehicles for business or personal use with a quick click or swipe plus revenue from business deliveries UNTIL premium upgrade request stopped the app dead in its tracks and wasn't functioning as before. No way to say thanks BUT no thanks to upgrade to get the app working as before. Love these FREE apps that last maybe a week

  • Never written an app review before, but... Jul 31, 2019

    By Bupin ^.^
So I downloaded the free version of this app and LOVED the mileage and expense tracker. Everything worked seamlessly and the automatic tracking, especially for mileage, was enormously helpful for tax purposes. I liked it enough that after the free trial ran out, I purchased a monthly subscription for premium. As soon as I purchased the premium subscription, Hurdlr suddenly was unable to connect with my bank account. In other words, though it had been automatically tracking and logging my expenses, now it won’t connect to my bank account and will not track or log anything. That alone is aggravating but what’s most frustrating is that I have been trying to resolve this problem for close to two weeks with Hurdlr customer service. No dice. I keep being told that my case is being escalated and they ask me to try to connect my account repeatedly with no difference in outcome. In other words, I’m paying for a subscription that I can’t use and that customer service can’t help with. It’s inexplicable given that the thing worked flawlessly when I had the free trial. Classic bait and switch, it seems. UPDATE: Well after two weeks I finally just updated the app (something customer service never recommended) and voila, it works again. Notwithstanding that my issue was fixed, it’s astounding that customer service was borderline useless even though I’m ostensibly paying for that support.

I have rated it 3 ⭐ because my Wife just started using this app for tracking her expenses and income. She contracts for doordash, postmates and her own e-commerce business. So far it does exactly what it says it does. We will update in 3 months when we see her quarterly reports calculated by the app and they match my records I keep my self for her using spreadsheets.

  • Pretty good but not enough support Apr 11, 2019

Are used the QuickBooks self-employed app for a year and I liked it but found it to be way overpriced. Hurdlr premium looked like a promising alternative, and it does deliver most of the same features as QuickBooks for a much better price. The customer service reps are extremely nice and respond quickly, but don’t actually have any power to solve problems. I work with several financial institutions and one of them won’t connect with Hurdlr. I have emailed support about this several times and they don’t seem to be that concerned about keeping me as a customer or about solving the problem. It’s a pity because I do like the app, especially the price and how it supports multiple businesses (unlike QB). But how can I use it if it won’t work with one of my institutions? There’s no import or export function, so I would have to enter every transaction manually. I might as well use a spreadsheet for my accounting in that case.

  • LOVE(D) Hurdlr - updated review Nov 30, 2020

    By LA Hare
I’ve used Hurdlr for a few months and left a 5 star review. However, I have to take 3 stars away. Sadly, I’ve had so many issues with this app. Between the Square integration not being all that I hoped for as someone with multiple online stores and the csv. spreadsheet imports only capturing SOME transactions, it’s becoming more work to manage that I have time for. Unfortunately, I’ve paid for a year subscription and they don’t do partial refunds. Bummed beyond words. May use for the next 9 months just to track mileage and expenses, but tracking income in this app may cause some issues at tax time. We’ll see if they make any improvements over the next 9 months. Ease of use is top notch, but it has to work.

  • Doesn’t work with my bank — and no one said anything Dec 6, 2019

    By bw2132
In theory, this app is everything I needed and totally worth the monthly subscription, but I recently discovered some transactions that were missing and learned that the app doesn’t work with CapitalOne at all. This isn’t super uncommon — banking with CapitalOne impedes a lot of my best efforts to automate my expense tracking — but most apps tell you there’s a connection issue. Hurldr indicated that the connection was working for months when, in fact, some major transactions were missing that have huge tax implications for me. This app has a lot of great features in theory, but it’s not worth the risk of bad info or amount of double checking/manually entry you might need to do, imo.

It’s a pity such great software is spearheaded by such an incompetent, inconsiderate, and downright useless customer service team. Everything works great on this software until it suddenly doesn’t. If problems come up with the software expect to wait months with no updates while the CS team works tirelessly with the technicians to justify why they have no fault or responsibility to fix the situation. As a bonus they will vaguely allude to when you might expect an update but not provide concrete timelines. In all seriousness, fix your CS team to match the quality of the product that you offer. Anything less is a disservice to the company and your product.

Mileage tracker works seamlessly but there has been absolutely no Capital One integration since mid July 2019. Only now is Hurdlr considering direct integration options on the platform, 6 months later. Incredibly disappointing for a service when you have already paid for the 12 months ahead of time to not only offer a partial refund, reduced rate, or any other sort of support other than a thanks but please wait and see. Oh, there was an alternative proposed- to manually enter expenses and income (then what am I paying the $60 for again?)

I downloaded this app this morning after reading about it. I set it up and I noticed it would not accept my bank. I have US Bank and I even left the app to log in separately to make sure I was entering the password correctly, I was. I tried several times and it wouldn’t take it. Okay, I’ll log my expenses manually then. So I moved on to setting up automatically tracking my drives. The first trip it was perfect. Started once I started and stopped once I stopped. The next trip it didn’t record at all. The third trip it recorded in pieces. It stopped after 2 minutes and 55 seconds. It restarted and stopped after a few more minutes and did that for the duration. While I was not thrilled I would have dealt with the expense portion on my own but the whole reason I tried this app is because of the automatic tracking. I will stick with Stride if I’m going to log everything myself anyways. 🤷🏾‍♀️
