Lately, my mind has been on the coronavirus pandemic and the uninspiring way my country has been tackling it. So when I found this game, I thought it would be fun to try out, especially since it had been made accessible with VoiceOver. Three days later and I've been totally sucked in! I have no idea how to use the soulwells. Can I choose what is made from them, or do they just randomly create whatever I may need at any given time? Nevertheless, I have been enjoying myself and this sure beats worrying about the dreaded COVID-19. If there was a way to support the game (I already bought the Gold version right after downloading this even before knowing anything about what it offered), I would do so. Perhaps there could be a tip jar to support this project and its continued expansion. I'm glad I am not compelled to keep spending money, but I would like to throw in some clams from time to time to express my gratitude, both for making this accessible and for keeping me hooked with all the different monsters. Absurd underlings has been my favorite so far. Thank you again for an idle adventure that has kept me coming back for more.

A good idle game in a sea of idle garbage. It isnt perfect, but it is a great game none the less. Biggest problem so far is the Army system, specifically having to kill out your army to replace sub-par units with better ones. It is made even more difficult with your army retreating at certain points before all of your units die (struggling to replace early tank units) meaning you cant even wipe it clean to start over. An added "fire unit" feature would correct this problem entirely imo.

It’s super addicting and fun to play! I have some suggestions though for new features. 1)Allow players to buy upgrades to speed up building new buildings. There’s instructors to speed up training your army but not anything to speed up constructing buildings. 2)Allow for an option to place shamans on two aspects of soul wells, or be able to choose how many shamans on each, such as 3 on fruiting and 4 on growing for example. 3)An option to direct attacks on certain character types or on strength. Kinda like bloons tower defense, let us pick where our damage wants to go on an opposing army such as on the strongest troops first or on a specific class like healers. If these features were added to the game, it would be 100% my favorite game this year, and without them it still is a fantastic game!

Super "simple" idle resource manager. Despite streamlined art style game has a nice little story and a surprising amount of deepth. No ads, no constant spamming for rating or buying, no pay2win mechanices. Just a fun little game that is great for not demanding all of your time and focus. Highly recommend buying the game upgrade, if nothing else but to support a Dev who isn't spamming you constantly. Look forward to further updates.

I almost never write reviews, but this game definitely deserves. There are a few minor bugs and thing here and there, but all in all it is very fun. I noticed when the Kobold’s come in to the story, they say they will levy 30% of food, but they actually take much less. Also, it would be cleaner if without the decimal points in the 1/10’s place. I’m a long time incrementalist, and this hails strongly to “A Dark Room” with a few key changes. Also a note to the developer, please decrease the number of resources requires to build later stage houses, at a certain point they become very difficult to obtain.

I enjoyed the game, and finished the main story. You can reach a point where you unlock factories that cost a fixed amount, and building a couple dozen of them gets you basically infinite resources... Except jade and mercury, which you need for the best army units. That wouldn't be an issue if you could fire your lesser units, but you can't. I'd give this 5 stars if I could fire those weak units to replace them. Please add that function.

  • Very, very good. Sep 16, 2020

Although it is short (still only up to version 1.0), this is a great little game. My only complaint is that as you get deeper into the combat system, it becomes more difficult to judge how you will do against certain armies. The last, for example, is a 500. I had an army of 840 in the end and it had only just then turned from red to yellow in terms of difficulty. How is that even possible? Other than this, Home Quest is a fun little game. I wish it were a bit deeper and longer, but for what it is it’s good.

Update: I figured out how to upgrade, but it isn't so obvious. That little plus sign by your first house is a great way to get to the end of the game... (hint hint) Not sure how to get it to upgrade to the next level.. Im going to do a few more battles to see if it gives it to me but it has been stalled for almost a week now. Is there a forum for help?

Fun game! I enjoy it and find myself coming back to it a couple times a day. If you like idle games, resource management, a good little story, and simple game that you can play in short burst, this is definitely the game for you. As most people said, you can't dismiss units and are forced to have them die to replace them with better versions. Also, it seems the enemies attack everyone equally (or support the most). What's the point of having front line tanks if they don't take most the damage?

Pretty good game and the stories are very interesting reads. Definitely worth a try for those who like old skool text-based RPGs who would like an idle build factor. One critique so far would be the resources seem to round instead of staying 'floored.' So, a building needing 20k of a resource can't be built if I my treasury shows 20k and is shown in red. Recommend using a round-down floor approach if you're going to truncate the numerous quantities

  • Some praise and some bugs Jul 6, 2020

First of all, thank you for making this voiceover accessible! I bought the gold edition after about five minutes of playing, and this is just a great game all around. Two little flaws I’ve noticed are this: one. Once you have 43 houses, and 17 storage built, you can’t build any more of either because it is impossible to come up with the required materials. Two. When trying to fight the ogre kingdom, you can send your army there, but once you try and hit the start battle button, it just kicks you back to the main world screen as if you hit the retreat button. I think you did a wonderful job making this game, so much so that this is the only game I ever reviewed, and I hope to see more in the future! Thanks again.

Really good game, simplistic icons, good story, however.., 1., The loading time. It's taking me like 2 seconds per every 1%. And while this could be just a my phone problem, there may be ways to look into it. 2., I can't fire units in my army. It becomes extremely annoying when I'm using a slot in my army for a unit, when it could be replaced by a unit who's stronger, more durable, and still costs the same amount of food.
