  • Very helpful with an annoying flaw that persists in 2020 Feb 10, 2020

    Early response: Am happy about receiving medical assistance without having to leave home. Occasional technical glitches. Not the best in informing users of updates that change the interface from an already-existing patient's perspective. I guess they depend on service providers (doctors) to inform patients of changes, but they, in turn, aren't kept informed either. 2019: Changed my rating from four to five but there is a major flaw with their survey form at the end of each session: NONE of the options they provide are a real choice for me so I totally resent having to “fake” an answer as my doctor is NOT available for me to see in person and I don’t need emergency care, etc!! So fix your survey form! 2020: A year later: no one seems to pay attention to suggestions that are more about the survey than the app itself: but the SURVEY is a crucial part of the feedback loop! If I’m forced into saying “I’d do NOTHING” it is not the same as my needing to see a provider who is NOT my doctor in Honolulu- nor is my case an “emergency “ so that option is moot in a therapy session. I depend on seeing my therapist but have no viable alternatives to respond within the app you have created!

    HMSA Online allows me to connect with and keep appointments with professionals during the times that work for me, and from the convenience of my own space (wherever I happen to be in the islands, as long as my hotspot is working or I otherwise have internet. I really appreciate the flexibility this APP affords. Yes, there are some glitches in the system that sometimes interrupt the feed or drop the call, but the system often reconnects me by itself. And if that doesn’t happen, my provider simply sends me a new invitation for "60 seconds from now" and we reconnect by stating another session (but still billed as one session, I'm not asked for another copay.) I really appreciate the ability to schedule with whom I want, whether or not they and/or I happen to be on the Big Island on any particular day. As long as the provider is licensed in Hawaii (and and providing services thru HMSA Online,) I can have an appointment with them without actually leaving home (or flying to another island) to go to their office. It saves us both time, saves me money, and gives me much more access (and to different specialists) than I would normally have living on the Big Island.

    I love telehealth as it allows me to remain at home, decreases travel and wait times, able to see each other without a mask thus keeping the session personable. This was the first time using the HMSA app and it was great! The countdown clock was a nice touch that wasn't distracting at all. Will use this again in the future.

    Thanks to the HMSA Online APP I got to keep on seeing my regular psychologist that I’ve been seeing for years. When my psychologist moved to Virginia a few years back, I was worried I would have to find a new doctor. I was not looking forward to that, because the doctor I was seeing for years, is a very good psychologist, & I really felt comfortable with him. But thanks to the HMSA Online APP, I am able to keep seeing my psychologist, even if he lives in Virginia, & I live here in Hawaii. I see him every week, just like if he was still here in Hawaii. And the great thing about this is, I don’t have to drive anywhere, find a parking, walk & wait for the elevator. I just relax in the comfort of my bedroom, & when it’s my appointment time, I click on the APP, go through the process of logging in, then visit with my doctor (face to face), just like if I were visiting with him in person! Thanks HMSA Online for this great APP, & for not making me have to give up a excellent doctor (Dr. Edward Bieda)!

    I’ve used this system for years. Great to see someone to ask for care instead of going to an office for minor things. As a single parent being able to talk to a doctor late at night when my baby and toddler are sick or get a bump is great for piece of mind. Even better for myself so I can do a visit while my daughter sleeps and not have to deal with both of us being cranky in the waiting room. Obviously you have to go in if you need specific tests or procedures but this is great for the minor stuff or to get advice if it’s worth going in for examinations or tests.

    Steep learning curve to set up your patient account, but once achieved, very detailed, very good app, wonderful. Make sure you have strong wi-fi/internet signal. I'm also hearing-impaired so I use my Powerbeats3 (from Costco, under $100) to help boost microphone/sound. Other than that, I advise you to take advantage of the camera on your phone or tablet to take pictures. It's very useful to have in your medical file for insurance purposes. Just a helpful tip! God bless!!

    I’ve used HMSA online care multiple times in the past, but my last provider takes the cake. He was very personable as well as professional. He listened to my input even though he is the more qualified person in the convo. Together we reached a plan of care which I think was our best option. Incredible care with much compassion. This is one of the tools we most certainly need to be able to utilize both in the current times we live and in the future of healthcare.

    I love the app! Suggestions: Add a time in waiting room- letting patients know how long they will probably be waiting. I sat in a waiting room so long that I canceled only to see the doctor was no longer online. I waited 30 min for no reason. Notifications- tell us the doctor left or is not active/Idle while in the waiting room. Maybe they forgot to log off? Telephone- offer calls and video upfront. Boredom- Don't kick us offline if we go into another app while waiting. Thanks!!

    The first two available doctors I chose, rejected me because they were only accepting established patients. The app should say available only to established patients, so you don’t have to try multiple doctors then wait to be seen for nothing. I tried the next available doctor. The third available doctor that I tried, the app said I was the next patient to be seen. It indicated that I had a short wait. I waited over an hour and a half. I decided something must have gone wrong. I canceled the visit. I selected the next available doctor again. I got a good doctor quickly the fourth try, but she was in Maui. Her advice was good. I appreciated her help, but I live on Oahu so there is no chance of a physical visit. If the advice does not help, I will have to see another doctor for a physical visit.

    I’ve only used this app once and was already let down. I called in and spoke to a doctor. Over the phone he prescribed me Amoxicillin and ear drops (on the form that was written during the visit, Amoxicillin is listed). I gave him the pharmacy and everything, but when I called in to the pharmacy to switch the pickup location, they said that the Amoxicillin was never sent in. HMSA Customer Service is unavailable, I cannot send a message to the doctor because he is not listed in my contacts on the app even though I just spoke to him yesterday, the doctor is in California so they aren’t answering either. I’m sitting here with my symptoms getting worse trying to figure out where my antibiotics are and no one can even help me.

    On screen instructions are easy to follow. However, reconnection into a session with the doctor is terrible. I've tried logging out and logging back in but doesn't seem to reconnect. Even after physically going into the doctor's office, they couldn't figure out why and they ruled out that the internet connection is not the issue. I also tried on another phone in which, the initial attempt worked but due to audio issues, the doctor had to end the session but again, couldn't reconnect.

    This app does not function that great. The abrupt ending is irritating at least. The least this app could do is count down the last minute in seconds so you're not abruptly cut off in the middle of a sentence. And if you're lucky it'll function correctly through your appointment

    Less than one star. The app itself is barely usable and every time I'm about to see a physician, it kicks me to a different provider and to the back of the queue. I waited 3 fing hours and when I finally got connected , the fing audio wouldn't load. I ended up having to take an Uber to the ER since I couldn't wait another 3 hours

    Reception is poor, connections routinely lost. Takes excessively long to connect even though both parties are on line trying. Cannot start logging on a few minutes early to ensure appointment starts on time - and yet a timer automatically disconnects at the appointed end time even if appointment started late due to technical difficulties (common occurrence.) There ARE better programs out there. HMSA should switch - unless it is HMSA’s intent to provide bad service. Makes one wonder.....

    Nice app, great new way to see your doctor if you can’t travel, you’re out of state, or bed ridden. Data collection makes me uneasy! I am sure the disclosures notice waves your rights to the use of all of your recorded data. If they have any assurance that they don’t it should be stated in simple terms when signing up.

    App now crashes when trying to open the app on my iPhone so I go to app support and it takes me to download the app. An endless cycle of nonsense and getting no help. Doesn’t make sense to send me to the app for support when the reason I’m contacting support is because of the app crashing.

    If I could give this zero stars, I would. Yes, it has great features in theory, but it needs a LOT of technical work. I mean, you’ve got to have it to communicate with your doctor so obviously you’re going to download it. But is it a “good, functional app”? Definitely not.

    Knowing there was an app to go to for when I wanted to see a doctor was really helpful. And the app was very easy to use, the connection was clear. It wod even give you countdown when your time was almost up. That was an interesting addition. Helped me to try to remember what else I wanted to talk about before time ran out. Thanks HMSA!

    The entry process to see a doctor took longer than expected with the amount of questions asked, but in comparison to driving to my actual physician and finding parking, I still think it's still the fastest and easiest way to get a professional opinion with prescription capabilities.

    Second try very satisfactory and reassuring. Was connected with Dr. Antoine Cazin immediately. 5 stars for him. He asked me questions, gave me opportunity to ask questions, told me what to watch for. I had tried seeing a doctor earlier in morning, was told Dr. Kobayashi was available and would be with me shortly. I waited one hour and finally gave up. Not satisfactory at all.

    Had some issues with loading "current medications taking" on app but overall saved me an unnecessary in-person visit to my doctor especially with Covid19 anxieties going on right now. It was great speaking with my PCP face to face rather than just talking to him over the phone thru physicians exchange. Thank God for this service!!!!

    At first it was hard to sign on and the app would not let me pick Costco for my pharmacy. I finally was able to see someone who quickly helped me and gave me good advice. Still can't pick up my meds at Costco? Other than that.. it works🙂

    The only issue was getting the connection cut-off then I needed to log back in. The same series of questions appeared that I bypassed since I already answered them. Then resumed the visit with my doctor. The visit was sufficient at this time during this Covid-19 situation.

    Online care is one of the main reasons why I stay with HMSA. Being able to consult with a doctor 24/7, especially for my kids has given us so much peace of mind. Only downside is I have waited in the “waiting room” for over 30 minutes only to get logged out because that doctor is no longer available. Then having to start the entire process again including typing out my reason for the visit.

    App is alright for it's intended purpose. Video and audio quality could be higher. Please allow us to forward the messages in the app to outside emails. Or at least email a copy of any attachments the doctor added when emailing us a personal copy of the visit. I can't print the sick slip PDF from my iPhone within the app. This means I have to go onto a computer just to print the sick slip. Allow us to print from the app!

    I use it for seeing my psychologist. It works somewhat acceptably, but the on-ramp to the actual video meeting is terrible and takes forever. Once the meeting is going then it’s fine. Needs improvement, but it’s not quite bad enough to throw the whole App in the trash.

I gave him the pharmacy and everything, but when I called in to the pharmacy to switch the pickup location, they said that the Amoxicillin was never sent in. HMSA Customer Service is unavailable, I cannot send a message to the doctor because he is not listed in my contacts on the app even though I just spoke to him yesterday, the doctor is in California so they aren’t answering either. I’m sitting here with my symptoms getting worse trying to figure out where my antibiotics are and no one can even help me.

    On screen instructions are easy to follow. However, reconnection into a session with the doctor is terrible. I've tried logging out and logging back in but doesn't seem to reconnect. Even after physically going into the doctor's office, they couldn't figure out why and they ruled out that the internet connection is not the issue. I also tried on another phone in which, the initial attempt worked but due to audio issues, the doctor had to end the session but again, couldn't reconnect.

    Nice app, great new way to see your doctor if you can’t travel, you’re out of state, or bed ridden. Data collection makes me uneasy! I am sure the disclosures notice waves your rights to the use of all of your recorded data. If they have any assurance that they don’t it should be stated in simple terms when signing up.

    To Whom It May Concern: HMSA staff informed me that I was the first & at one time (pre-pandemic) only person using Online Care in my region. Online Care is a great concept. If only long-standing technical difficulties were resolved! I have made numerous requests for copies of the Online Care reviews that I completed. I received nothing. In addition, ongoing technical issues, which I described in the surveys, have not been corrected. After three years of no response & no resolution by HMSA, I can only conclude that someone/s is/are not doing the job/s for which customers are paying. As a longtime, loyal customer, I find this disturbing. HMSA has my e-mail address bc I have been using it to sign in & complete its surveys. Again, please send me hard/printable copies of the surveys that I completed & respond forthwith to the questions & concerns I have raised. Thank you. cc: CEO P.S., In order to send this response, I tried entering numerous nicknames including, but not limited to, the words DISAPPOINTED, NOT SURPRISED—even names of my FISH! Funny but not surprising, they were all taken! That's ok, I know how to screenshot & communicate in other ways.

    This app does not function that great. The abrupt ending is irritating at least. The least this app could do is count down the last minute in seconds so you're not abruptly cut off in the middle of a sentence. And if you're lucky it'll function correctly through your appointment

    Less than one star. The app itself is barely usable and every time I'm about to see a physician, it kicks me to a different provider and to the back of the queue. I waited 3 fing hours and when I finally got connected , the fing audio wouldn't load. I ended up having to take an Uber to the ER since I couldn't wait another 3 hours

    Reception is poor, connections routinely lost. Takes excessively long to connect even though both parties are on line trying. Cannot start logging on a few minutes early to ensure appointment starts on time - and yet a timer automatically disconnects at the appointed end time even if appointment started late due to technical difficulties (common occurrence.) There ARE better programs out there. HMSA should switch - unless it is HMSA’s intent to provide bad service. Makes one wonder.....

    App now crashes when trying to open the app on my iPhone so I go to app support and it takes me to download the app. An endless cycle of nonsense and getting no help. Doesn’t make sense to send me to the app for support when the reason I’m contacting support is because of the app crashing.

    If I could give this zero stars, I would. Yes, it has great features in theory, but it needs a LOT of technical work. I mean, you’ve got to have it to communicate with your doctor so obviously you’re going to download it. But is it a “good, functional app”? Definitely not.

    I had covid symptoms so I had a visit, got tested and Dr. was supposed to write me a note stating I could return to work when results came back negative. I am due to return tomorrow. I have emailed her 4x and still have no note or copy of my results. Terrible service.
