  • This is the BEST app by far for mindfulness Feb 22, 2021

    By Crazy Yorkie Lady
It’s almost embarrassing to say this, but I have been a “meditator” for about 30 years and I have to say that I never really got very much out of doing it. I tried so hard, but I’m finding out I never truly understood that “trying” to be a good meditator or mindful person, was missing what doing this was about. What I’m learning through this app is that “mindfulness” is about me - understanding myself first, and it’s a lot about acceptance. So with that understanding and acceptance I can begin to see “things” so much more clearly and why previous ways of thinking, particularly about myself, were holding me back from living my life and loving myself. And I’m finding that the more I practice self acceptance, the fears about living fully and going after what I want out of my life, are disappearing. The previous version of myself is rapidly becoming someone I only used to know, and this new ME is much more in line with who I’d always wanted to be. I’m able to try and do so much more, all while in the comfort that I am lovable, even if I fail at something. I simply dust myself off and try some more. This app has completely changed me and the way I’m able to appreciate all the good that’s in my life. And I’m worthy of going after the things I want for my life, while freeing me up to share my gifts with others and society in general. If this is where you find your life stalling out, this app will bring you back to yourself.

I am astounded at how much I love this app! I -never- purchase apps, mainly because they are not usually worth the money to do so. However, this one is 100% worth it for the full use! I sleep so much better using the sleepcasts in this app. I also use them and the soundscapes to help me ground myself during anxiety and panic attacks. I cannot recommend this highly enough to anyone having trouble falling asleep, nightmares or anxiety. It's a total game changer and I'm grateful I invested in it!

I discovered Headspace on Netflix. My life is a series of invitations to succumb to fear. My husband is a practicing psychologist who is on peritoneal dialysis for 10 hours every night and works remotely with patients for about 10 hours every day without complaint. We have been waiting for a kidney for two years. I am optimistic by nature but even if this was the only focus for concern it would be a lot. Unhelpfully, the list goes on with equivalent issues. I can’t work; I need to be on call because I am the go-to for support. I occupy my mind and time writing a book and renovating every room of our home one at a time amidst being available for nine blended (mostly grown) children and 5 grandkids, many of whom have special needs. I am busy but isolated like so many due to covid-19. Trying the Headspace series felt like meeting air; filling the natural and effortless need to breathe. It has provided me with a new lens through which to focus on challenges and see potential. I incorporate it into my waking routine at dawn and it positions me for whatever happens throughout the day, and differentiates a space that is my own. I turn 61 this month and for maybe the first time in a while, life feels lighter and brighter. It’s not about what you fear or can’t control or even the fact of fear. It’s about the lens through which you interpret your fears or challenges and making them your strengths and allies. Thank you Andy :-)

This app has been a godsend. I first started using it because of work stress. It really helped me feel more calm, less anxious. Then my dog dies, then 3 days later my father in law died. Headspace has a grieving meditation that has helped me during this difficult time. I also often use the focus music. It helps me get less stressed when I answer customer emails. Thank you!

You won’t regret buying a Headspace subscription. I often joke with people that Headspace is the one thing I would want to take with me to a desert island. If I were to cancel all of my subscriptions today, Headspace is the one exception I would make. I’m a high school English teacher, and our administration put together a month-long mindfulness education program for our students shortly after I subscribed. I had already raved to many of them about the app and the benefits of taking a couple of minutes out of their day to sit and be present. Lo and behold, Andy pops up on the next slide as our Ted Talk speaker of the day! On a more serious note, I suffer from debilitating chronic pain. I’m currently on long-term disability and a leave of absence from the classroom. Mindfulness, and the courses on managing pain, have been a tremendous help in my journey. Not only that, but I struggle with insomnia. My favorite part of Headspace, because of my (admittedly) vivid imagination, are the sleepcasts. I love falling asleep to Rainday Antiques. I can’t imagine doing anything but that ever again. I have learned to manage stress and anxiety in a way that I had never thought was possible. I have meditated in the waiting room of The Cleveland Clinic before my appointments. I once laughed at the idea of mindfulness and meditation. Now it’s an integral part of my life. It’s part of my journey, and I think everyone could benefit from it.

I miss the good old headspace. I loved the short video sessions displayed amidst course sessions. Now we'll have to search for videos, which I think is a very bad idea. The app is turning increasingly complex while asking the users to simplify life. It WAS the best meditation as long as it kept things simple. Please bring it back. KEEP IT SIMPLE.

App is very good. But the default auto renewal is a bit of rip off. Needs to be turned off manually by logging in on the website (or app store if purchased there). It can't be done from in the app. Since the last update (16th March) app crashes every 4 or 5 minutes. Pretty frustrating trying to meditate wondering if the app has crashed again. Not good enough for a very expensive subscription service. Going elsewhere for good

I have been a regular mediator for years. The reason I am using Headspace is that I am participating in a research study that requires me to do so. This may be a good app for beginners. I find the teachers condescending and the information basic. I do like the variety of topics addressed. The requirement to use this app may cause me to drop out of the study. There are many better methods to learn mindfulness and meditation.

I like the contents and have used it for several years. However it has a glitch so that sessions hang on my phone - something to do with lockscreen and battery management. I've tried all settings. The subscription is expensive so it is disappointing they can't sort this out. It's hopeless trying to lose yourself in a meditation whilst wondering whether it will hang. Today I did what was sposed to be a 15 minute session, but found I had sat there for 55 minutes cos the app hung!!!!

At first I really loved this app and I didn't miss that some of the sessions we're locked and only for people who are subscribed but then I couldnt do the daily meditation feature because it started to lock all of them... I liked that with some packs you could do the first session to get a feel of what it it was about but then you would have to pay to get the rest of it. Because of this, for about six months, I was doing the basics pack (which is the only pack you get without paying) and so I didn't feel like meditating. I was losing all hope in this app until sleep by headspace came out. I have a lot of trouble sleeping and so this feature really helped me and I thought I could do as many sleepcasts i want but then..... As you could guess... It locked ALL OF THEM....now I can't meditate or sleep😔 if you have enough money to subscribe to this app, good for you because it's very nice and will help you a lot but if you can't subscribe, don't get your hopes up with this app. I just really wish it had more features for people who can't subscribe because in the end it leaves no options if you can't. If it had more options, I would be giving them at most four stars but because the don't, they're left with one. I really do wish I could keep this app but right now it's just taking up space😖

The only complaints I have it's sometimes hard to find specific kind of meditation (unless it's in your favourites) and the lack of long deep body scans 30-60 minutes, all focused on body scan, that I was introduced to mindfulness with. Other than that, this is a God sent, figuratively speaking and has gotten mince back to practising meditation after over one and half decade. Recommend to everyone!

  • Too pricey for a college kid! Nov 25, 2018

    By Nick my name!!
I love this app. I tried the free trial and loved it. The guided meditations really make the work easy and I found myself in a inducing a meditative state without lots of effort. They literally have a guided meditation for any situation or mood so it feels like their library is limitless. Unfortunately my free trial ran out and I bought a few months of headspace. In a way buying the app encouraged me to use it because I was spending my own money so that was good. However, when I moved into my first apartment I didn’t have enough money to keep my subscription going. I would love to buy headspace for life but I just don’t have $300 extra dollars sitting around to spend. I also feel that the subscription is pricey for something i don’t always want to use everyday. On days where I wanted to take a break from using my phone I lost my meditation streak which was disappointing. Sometimes I have a great day and don’t feel the need for headspace, but the subscription still takes the money from my pocket. On days when I really have a particular funky mood headspace is great because I feel like it can guide me through any kind of funk. I just wish it wasn’t so pricey. Buy this app if you like the meditations and have the money, but if you don’t have the dough, free meditation may be the way to go.

  • Love this app!! Dec 1, 2020

    By Chachey
So I started using this app because my boyfriend said that I needed to start meditating due to my high levels of stress (and how easily I get stressed and I have poor stress management) and my because I am very easily angered and to him I just overall seem unhappy with life. I am only 24 so my stress shouldn’t be what it is in my opinion. So I took his advice on meditation and did some research and found this app. I’m still in the free trial stages of it but I will most definitely buy is once it ends. The reason I give 4 start is because I wish there were more mindful activities because of my job. I wake up at 6 am and come home from anywhere between 5pm - 11pm depending on the day I have. So it would be nice to have more mindful activities where I can use the app an work or do things at home with out it being the same thing. Or more on commuting. I’m driving all day long so to have something I can listen to while driving that isn’t music or just for a commute home would be nice. But other than that I have no complaints! I love it and I hope it gets me where I would like to be. And that is to be happy and content with my life as it is now. And not get so angry with things. I am really excited to keep using this app!

  • New to Headspace Old to meditation Apr 16, 2020

    By fawayadventures
I started meditating in high school during my senior year when I did a solo project on the Dalai Lama and Thich Naht Hanh. Meditation was rejuvenating and grounding. Fast forward the next 15 years and meditation was lost to the hustle and bustle of life. My work recently offered a trial of Headapace to a select few prior to launching for the entire team. I immediately signed up knowing although my current mind stated, “you don’t have time for that” but my deep mind stated “you need this!” And here I am remembering again the importance of living in the moment, taking in and appreciating the sounds, smells and feel of the world around me. Meditation got me through some very tough times as a teenager when I nearly lost my mother to a brain tumor and my father to mental illness. Now with the coronavirus pandemic, job insecurity and political unrest I again need to ground myself. Headspace allowed me to treasure again the here and now, to not only calm my flighty mind but feel my body the aches and tension releasing it. Just like physical health you must make the time to nourish your brain. 10 minutes a day is reasonable and will make a world of difference! Thank you Headapace for reminding me again to live in the moment and treasure the beauty of every day.

This is really helpful! The only reason I didn’t give a higher rating is because there’s a strong overlying tone of a sales pitch there. Which is unfortunate, because I think people would be able to see the value easier if there wasn’t a push for money after every meditation and for many of the things on the app people would want to explore. Kind of stalls progress of the meditation itself when you’ve just worked so hard to pull yourself back, only to be instantly asked for money right after. From a company stand point I also think it would be more beneficial to work on building value and then freely offering the option to see what monthly costs are and also show a detailed description of what’s involved with a paid membership. I know this has worked well financially for other services and I’ve seen increases in sales by simply looking at things from the customers perspective. And I feel like the customers perspective is a miss here :( However quite and easy fix and overall this app is amazing! It not only teaches the basics of meditation, but teaches different techniques as well. This makes it good for beginners all the way to experts. I truly believe that the basis of this app is pure in intention and I can see what a help it is to many people who walk the path of life.

  • Great app however... Jun 18, 2019

    By carolineehall91
The gamification of this app is counterintuitive. For example I had a streak of over 100 days. I was so proud of that and it kept me motivated to continue. However my streak got wiped and I’m not even sure why. My boyfriend joked that this app that’s supposed to help me relax and reframe thoughts has me upset because I missed a day. If I look at my journey I see that each session date is sequential and doesn’t miss a date. This is the second time this has happened to me. I don’t know why my streak gets erased, and sometimes I feel like it adds a day randomly. I don’t think this would bother me so much if I wasn’t paying for this. And I know that this feature of the app is the least important aspect or function of the app. But for a product that’s supposed to help you practice mindfulness and acceptance this doesn’t help the users. Now that my streak has reset for the second time I felt the need to review. I hope you can fix this bug. Or at least let users know how the streak is measured, because you can meditate each calendar day but that doesn’t mean it counts for your streak.

  • Every meditation is the same Apr 14, 2018

I love the user interface on this app. I like the animations and the narrator. The app makes you want to meditate everyday and has definitely helped me keep a consistent practice. That in itself is very valuable. Unfortunately all of the meditations are pretty much exactly the same just repackaged under different themes. Essentially, if you do the basics (which you can get a taste of for free), that’s what all the other meditations are like. There’s no variety. They managed to package the same meditation under different themes by slapping on a different introductory quote. After that quote, you just repeat the same meditation. For example, you want a meditation that focuses on love? Well they just provide a little definition on what unconditional love is and then you do the exact same meditation you did in the basics package. I certainly don’t mind doing the same meditation for a month or so. But definitely not justifiable for an entire year. I would advice anyone against paying a whole year subscription for the app unless they want to do the same exact meditation daily.

  • Good, but not as great a selection as it might seem Nov 14, 2017

    By Pierrot606
While I enjoy the user friendliness of the app, appreciate the videos as well as the range of meditation themes, I’ve begun to regret having subscribed for a whole year in advance. The more packages and singles I look into, the more it seems that a lot of the sessions ultimately follow the same structure, use one (or more) of the same hand full of techniques, just the “packaging” changes (mediation for sleep, productivity, healing etc.). The singles seem to be more varied, but they, too, largely follow the same layout, just with a different theme wrapped around it. If only there were at least more variety to the visualization technique; I love meditating using visualization, but the one I’ve come across in all but one case (liquid sun light) does not do it for me. Granted, I haven’t listened to all sessions offered, and I’ll gladly take back what I’ve said if there’s more variety to the session structure or the techniques and I’ve just haven’t seen it yet. It would be disappointing, though, if the current pattern I’m seeing holds up for the rest of the packages.

  • Please simplify the app to how it used to be Oct 24, 2020

    By pfoxsounds
I’m a long time paid subscriber and don’t plan on going anywhere else. However, at some point over the last year or so, this app has become absurdly difficult to navigate and find what I want. What used to be a simple and elegant interface and experience is no longer so. I don’t know if this is an attempt to encourage users to see more of what the app offers or what, but the result for me, a long time user (and not some technophobic grandfather) is frustration and wasted time. I still use the app daily, but please, consider simplifying it back to more the way it used to be, when there were more clearly organised sections for finding the meditation I want. You have some kind of impossible to meld with structure now. It’s terribly laid out with all kinds of weird and distracting subcategories and stuff I don’t care about. I just want to find various packs of guided meditations as I go from one to the next. The newer extras are nice and some great ideas, but the clutter is not. Thanks.
