  • The most useful thing I’ve done in 2020 Jan 18, 2021

    By Kindly38
This app has given me tools to deal with constant change. This past year, I’ve needed to pivot every day to face some new challenge outside as an essential worker, and at home in isolation with my partner. The tools I Iearned to use to be present in the moment and to accept change has benefited my partner and colleagues at work as much as my own peace of mind. I have very little control over my environment, but I can see my reaction, accept the emotions that rise up, and move on instead of getting lost or bound by them. This app has also benefited me by helping me get through insomnia. Sometimes it helps me get to sleep in the first place. Mostly it gives me tools to use to calm my mind and body when I wake up in the night buffeted by anxiety or lingering frustration from the day. Lastly, this app has given me a language to express the emotional upheaval and troubling questions that I used to just call anxiety. Naming what makes me feel upset has brought clarity to what can feel like a tempest at the time and allow me to look at my thoughts or, rather, face them. After acknowledging them, I can let them go. Sometimes I’m better at that than at other times. Regular exercise strengthens my focus, my ability to pivot and refocus, and builds roads of calm and quiet that the brain finds easier to fall into and travel due to constant use.

So I’ve been using headspace for quite awhile now and personally I think it’s great! But the thing is since I don’t have premium, I have to keep on repeating the same old things like the rain day antiques sleepcast I’ve heard that sleep cast so many times and now I keep getting annoyed with it. That goes the same with the other sleep stuff too like the sleep music I’ve heard “doze” so many times I wake up like every 30 minutes or so. Also goes the same with the two free wind downs. The first time I used the free wind downs I fell asleep instantly the second time after that I couldn’t sleep for ten minutes. So after that, I wanted to do a free trial for the premium but I didn’t realize I was short on money. Since most people do a free trial for like a week or so they cancel there payment the day before the payment is due. So I tried doing that but it asked for but then I realized they need to know my payment information before doing my free trial. I think it was because they don’t know if I’m gonna cancel my payment or actually do the payment. So yeah, I think this app is amazing it just needs to either lower down the price by like 3-4$ or maybe add one or two me free sleepcasts and same goes to the wind downs, and music. Thank You.

Hi there, I absolutely love the app and during these tough times it has really helped me understand and manage my emotions better. So thank you :) One small problem I am having (nothing major) is that on the Managing Anxiety course, the playback of the voice always seems to stop a few seconds before the end of the meditation which often cuts off what the speaker is saying. As mentioned, not a big deal but just thought you might want to know. Thanks again!

  • Now a Rewarding and Essential part of my Routine. Apr 23, 2018

    By SublimePastTime
I’ve been using the app religiously for about two weeks. After a recent ADD diagnosis, I thought it would be a good idea to start working meditation into my routine, and was willing to invest some resources into the guided regiment on Headspace. The problem had been nearly consuming my life and I was pretty frustrated. I was skeptical of “guided meditation” in particular, because I thought that someone talking you through the meditations through your headphones might defeat the purpose. I also have trouble sitting still in particular. I have not been disappointed. The app explicitly states that it is not intended to treat or cure attention deficit disorders, and I did not expect it to, but it significantly reduced the the severity of the problem almost overnight. I am also a collegiate music student, and I saw a tremendous difference in my practice routine and quality of playing as well. The content is very well organized and the methodology/philosophy is explained very thoroughly in fun-to-watch animations. I feel the difference at work and among friends. I just now put the app on the main dock in my phone, right beside the phone, messaging, and music apps. It is now a rewarding and essential part of my routine.

I have had trouble meditating, but this app is what finally helped me get into the habit! Andy's voice is very soothing and his directions are very clear. I love the variety of programs offered. sometimes I switch programs (if I need to be more focused at work, or when I was grieving the passing of my cat). also, the nightime menu is amazing and gets the job done!

Sadly this app is ruined for me by the poor sound quality. I don't know how the audio is recorded but my guess is with a device that has some kind of auto noise reduction mode set to on and this is ruining the audio. When you listen to the voices, as they speak you have an audible background hiss. When they stop talking, the hiss continues for about 0.5 seconds and then stops for the silent sections. The hiss returns when they start speaking again. It is very noticeable, especially when hearing headphones. You should never rely on in-built noise reduction filters as they are fine for note taking but terrible for creating quality audio. Just record plain raw audio with background hiss and then process the audio separately after you have made the recording. You can remove background hiss super easily in 20 seconds in free programs like Audacity. The hiss coming and going is so distracting that it stops me from concentrating on the spoken words and therefore renders the entire app useless. Shame as the content is great but let down by amateur sound equipment.

App works great. Service has no idea how to help people with anxiety. Only program that lasts all night long is sounds/music that starts at its loudest then slowly goes to silence. After a period of silence it starts the cycle over immediately at the loudest setting. This cause me to wake up countless times throughout the night. Avoid this at all costs if you have anxiety and need help for sleep. The curators of this site clearly have NO idea how to help people with anxiety sleep throughout the night.

Looks good on the ads but after install, the only way to free trial any of the features is to give your bank account details, then cancel when the free trial is up. I know this is 'the way of things' but feel a little bit sad, cheated & stressed (with a side of angry, menopausal & having a hot flush) If the people behind the app genuinely wanted me to find peace, zen and to go into the world more positively and gently, then they shouldn't start the journey asking me for a financial contract! 😡

I joined Headspace when it was still in Beta Version and so many years later, the app genuinely frustrates me. How come it has become so difficult to view all videos at once? The features are too overwhelming. It used to be simple and easy to use. I appreciate that there is the "Move" category but I'd prefer if headspace only provided meditation videos instead of videos with athletes teaching yoga poses, or Kevin Hart giving a one minute speech on motivation. Unsubscribing soon.

At first I really loved this app and I didn't miss that some of the sessions we're locked and only for people who are subscribed but then I couldnt do the daily meditation feature because it started to lock all of them... I liked that with some packs you could do the first session to get a feel of what it it was about but then you would have to pay to get the rest of it. Because of this, for about six months, I was doing the basics pack (which is the only pack you get without paying) and so I didn't feel like meditating. I was losing all hope in this app until sleep by headspace came out. I have a lot of trouble sleeping and so this feature really helped me and I thought I could do as many sleepcasts i want but then..... As you could guess... It locked ALL OF THEM....now I can't meditate or sleep😔 if you have enough money to subscribe to this app, good for you because it's very nice and will help you a lot but if you can't subscribe, don't get your hopes up with this app. I just really wish it had more features for people who can't subscribe because in the end it leaves no options if you can't. If it had more options, I would be giving them at most four stars but because the don't, they're left with one. I really do wish I could keep this app but right now it's just taking up space😖

  • Too pricey for a college kid! Nov 25, 2018

    By Nick my name!!
I love this app. I tried the free trial and loved it. The guided meditations really make the work easy and I found myself in a inducing a meditative state without lots of effort. They literally have a guided meditation for any situation or mood so it feels like their library is limitless. Unfortunately my free trial ran out and I bought a few months of headspace. In a way buying the app encouraged me to use it because I was spending my own money so that was good. However, when I moved into my first apartment I didn’t have enough money to keep my subscription going. I would love to buy headspace for life but I just don’t have $300 extra dollars sitting around to spend. I also feel that the subscription is pricey for something i don’t always want to use everyday. On days where I wanted to take a break from using my phone I lost my meditation streak which was disappointing. Sometimes I have a great day and don’t feel the need for headspace, but the subscription still takes the money from my pocket. On days when I really have a particular funky mood headspace is great because I feel like it can guide me through any kind of funk. I just wish it wasn’t so pricey. Buy this app if you like the meditations and have the money, but if you don’t have the dough, free meditation may be the way to go.

Headspace provides well instructed meditation sessions. Moreover the animations, explaining various scenarios, are just awesome 😍😍! They make the session quite interesting and easy to understand. After a stressful day or at the beginning of it, taking out time for getting some 'Headspace' is worth the time and effort! I deducted 1 star just for the fact that the downloaded sessions do not appear in the offline mode for which it is meant for. Please look into this issue as soon as possible 🙏🙏.

  • Love this app!! Dec 1, 2020

So I started using this app because my boyfriend said that I needed to start meditating due to my high levels of stress (and how easily I get stressed and I have poor stress management) and my because I am very easily angered and to him I just overall seem unhappy with life. I am only 24 so my stress shouldn’t be what it is in my opinion. So I took his advice on meditation and did some research and found this app. I’m still in the free trial stages of it but I will most definitely buy is once it ends. The reason I give 4 start is because I wish there were more mindful activities because of my job. I wake up at 6 am and come home from anywhere between 5pm - 11pm depending on the day I have. So it would be nice to have more mindful activities where I can use the app an work or do things at home with out it being the same thing. Or more on commuting. I’m driving all day long so to have something I can listen to while driving that isn’t music or just for a commute home would be nice. But other than that I have no complaints! I love it and I hope it gets me where I would like to be. And that is to be happy and content with my life as it is now. And not get so angry with things. I am really excited to keep using this app!

Excellent but expensive!! Responsive to current events. Try out the Basics 1 course to see if you really like meditation. You have to make sure you're really going to meditate, or at least commit to trying hard to develop a daily habit. Otherwise, it's not worth the money. Then again, if you're able to meditate daily, you can earn free months for "streaks" of meditations, without missing one day, which can pay for most of the cost itself!

  • New to Headspace Old to meditation Apr 16, 2020

    By fawayadventures
I started meditating in high school during my senior year when I did a solo project on the Dalai Lama and Thich Naht Hanh. Meditation was rejuvenating and grounding. Fast forward the next 15 years and meditation was lost to the hustle and bustle of life. My work recently offered a trial of Headapace to a select few prior to launching for the entire team. I immediately signed up knowing although my current mind stated, “you don’t have time for that” but my deep mind stated “you need this!” And here I am remembering again the importance of living in the moment, taking in and appreciating the sounds, smells and feel of the world around me. Meditation got me through some very tough times as a teenager when I nearly lost my mother to a brain tumor and my father to mental illness. Now with the coronavirus pandemic, job insecurity and political unrest I again need to ground myself. Headspace allowed me to treasure again the here and now, to not only calm my flighty mind but feel my body the aches and tension releasing it. Just like physical health you must make the time to nourish your brain. 10 minutes a day is reasonable and will make a world of difference! Thank you Headapace for reminding me again to live in the moment and treasure the beauty of every day.

I've been using Headspace since before they started charging for it. It's been a great resource, that's why I paid to keep it, i love this app! I primarily use it at night and it would be AWESOME if it did not blind me with white light when it opens! It's so frustrating trying to get into the app and navigate to the sleep casts when the entire background of everything is white - is there a night mode option somewhere that I'm missing? If not, please add one and I will add 2 stars to this review!

The app is great itself. But it feels like they actually are there to earn. Everything is paid and I get why, they have worked on this, they recorded voices, they spent time to find music, they probably paid to the app designer but everything is way too expensive, at least for my country. Maybe the price is nice for people from countries as UK, USA and nearby countries but as for slavic countries, the price is too much. All meditations feel a little same, like people use same words.

  • Great resource! Jan 15, 2021

    By zigalellium
This is really helpful! The only reason I didn’t give a higher rating is because there’s a strong overlying tone of a sales pitch there. Which is unfortunate, because I think people would be able to see the value easier if there wasn’t a push for money after every meditation and for many of the things on the app people would want to explore. Kind of stalls progress of the meditation itself when you’ve just worked so hard to pull yourself back, only to be instantly asked for money right after. From a company stand point I also think it would be more beneficial to work on building value and then freely offering the option to see what monthly costs are and also show a detailed description of what’s involved with a paid membership. I know this has worked well financially for other services and I’ve seen increases in sales by simply looking at things from the customers perspective. And I feel like the customers perspective is a miss here :( However quite and easy fix and overall this app is amazing! It not only teaches the basics of meditation, but teaches different techniques as well. This makes it good for beginners all the way to experts. I truly believe that the basis of this app is pure in intention and I can see what a help it is to many people who walk the path of life.

  • Great app however... Jun 18, 2019

    By carolineehall91
The gamification of this app is counterintuitive. For example I had a streak of over 100 days. I was so proud of that and it kept me motivated to continue. However my streak got wiped and I’m not even sure why. My boyfriend joked that this app that’s supposed to help me relax and reframe thoughts has me upset because I missed a day. If I look at my journey I see that each session date is sequential and doesn’t miss a date. This is the second time this has happened to me. I don’t know why my streak gets erased, and sometimes I feel like it adds a day randomly. I don’t think this would bother me so much if I wasn’t paying for this. And I know that this feature of the app is the least important aspect or function of the app. But for a product that’s supposed to help you practice mindfulness and acceptance this doesn’t help the users. Now that my streak has reset for the second time I felt the need to review. I hope you can fix this bug. Or at least let users know how the streak is measured, because you can meditate each calendar day but that doesn’t mean it counts for your streak.

I love the user interface on this app. I like the animations and the narrator. The app makes you want to meditate everyday and has definitely helped me keep a consistent practice. That in itself is very valuable. Unfortunately all of the meditations are pretty much exactly the same just repackaged under different themes. Essentially, if you do the basics (which you can get a taste of for free), that’s what all the other meditations are like. There’s no variety. They managed to package the same meditation under different themes by slapping on a different introductory quote. After that quote, you just repeat the same meditation. For example, you want a meditation that focuses on love? Well they just provide a little definition on what unconditional love is and then you do the exact same meditation you did in the basics package. I certainly don’t mind doing the same meditation for a month or so. But definitely not justifiable for an entire year. I would advice anyone against paying a whole year subscription for the app unless they want to do the same exact meditation daily.

The 'noting' exercise seems to make my depression worse, so there's that. So I find it unfortunate that there are a lot of the sleepcasts I can't use or actively have to ignore the beginning. There are a few other things like when I used the nightmare SOS and the first thing wasn't someone being comforting but just practially a lecture on nightmares that just made me feel talked down to in my current state. I also find it distracting when the sleepcasts tell me how I'm supposed to be feeling about something. It takes me out of it as I'm already supplying my own feelings on what's being described. And, I guess I wish they had a description of 'what your doing and why' in a separate track you could listen to if you want, as listening to an explanation every time you want to use something gets tedious if you use it a lot or already know. Though, honestly, with how many five star reviews this thing has, I'd be amazed if anyone notices this tiny drop of something different in the bucket. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Doesn’t work well with Iwatch Aug 9, 2020

    By njalexsmith
I wish this app was designed to be more intuitive with the Apple Watch. I can only play a 1 minute breathing exercise on the iwatch app despite the website is conveying and customer support is poor. I sent an email to customer support. The first response from customer service is that my response will take longer than 48 hours with an apology. Second response was a name of a customer service agent and never heard back. I tried reaching out by DM on social media, but no response. Furthermore, if you use the 1 minute breathing exercise on the watch, it doesn’t sync to your account. The phone app is great, but I would like to use my phone less, not more. My phone is integrated with my work apps (email, calendar, teams, etc) and adds endless anxiety. Because the phone app is good, I wouldn’t give it just one star, however I am posting a 1 star review because both devs and customers only read 1 star reviews. Headspace has a customer service problem along with a poor iwatch app. I haven’t had an issue with the phone app.

  • Cannot get a human to respond Feb 17, 2020

    By Carpeltunneltexting
I am super frustrated & don’t know what else to do to get a human to provide answers. I am having so many problems with the Headspace app- login issues, profile management, invited family members can’t create an account. I have tried the FAQs and online support but they don’t provide solutions. The “live chat” doesn’t exist. To unlink an account it says to contact support - who is that? I have emailed many requests but no answers. 4-6 days to respond due to high volumes. I still haven’t heard one iota of anything except that I’m in some queue. I just wanted a human to respond. Nobody has replied but yet my credit card is charged. And on our end, we can’t use the app. I realize I am just a drop in the bucket in terms of your users. But I want to cancel my account. I believe I get 30 days. But I’m afraid nobody will respond within that window and I will be stuck with a family subscription nobody can use. Please help me get out of the anxiety that trying to use app has caused. If that ain’t irony. 😂 What do I need to do to have a customer service representative contact me?
