  • Perfect for Healthcare Workers amidst the pandemic Aug 17, 2020

    By Mel - RRT
I’ve been in respiratory therapy for 8 years. 3 of the last years I’ve been at a trauma hospital in Los Angeles. Because of everything that has happened in 2020, and the tension in hospitals being at an all time high, I’ve had mild to moderate anxiety. I’ve always been a stress ball growing up, but it has never manifested in my physical body until this year. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF STRESS. As a healthcare worker, I am strong but I am not invincible, so I had to switch my lifestyle up. I’m now taking herbal supplements, taking Epsom salt bath every other day, exercising (most) days, and making sure to get some sun. Meditating has really helped me so much. I’ve been doing it pretty much every day for the past few weeks and it has helped me accept my emotions and worries without being too hard on myself since I can sometimes be an overachiever. I bought the annual subscription because I wanted to invest in something that would help me practice feeling peace in the chaos going on at work, in the world, and just my life in general. This app has allowed me to feel calm and practice being mindful of the moment. Download this app and make it a part of your daily regimen to meditate! Especially if you’re an essential worker.

Headspace has a lot to offer, but it doesn't offer what I need. The sleep casts are excellent, but they end after 45 minutes. Because I know the end is coming, I can't fall to sleep. I would like to able to line up a number of sounds that run after the other or have the ambient sound play continuously after the sleep cast, but as this isn't an option, I can't subscribe. I don't mind paying if this is implemented.

  • Love the app - meditations are very repetitive though Jan 17, 2019

I love the Headspace app and I’m a big fan of Andy’s soothing voice. I’ve now meditated ~35 days in a row, something I was never able to accomplish through other meditation apps. The design is beautiful and I love the animations. My only feedback is that the courses are very repetitive in terms of the actual structure and guided meditations. While that’s great and I understand it’s helpful to have a similar structure, a 10 min meditation in a course on Happiness and 10 min meditation in a course on Managing Anxiety are about 85% the same except for about 2 min of the session where he talks about the topic. Take deep breaths, close your eyes, feel your room around you, focus on the breath, Andy talks for a min about the topic, bring awareness back to breath, body scan, let go of awareness, bring it back, done. That’s helpful for a very generic meditation, but for these very specific topics, I feel like there should be more techniques used and a bit more difference in what’s asked of the user. I do feel better and relaxed afterwards, but don’t really feel like I’m more prepared to deal with the anxiety. I know I’m more aware of it, which is part of the point, but is that the only point? Again, love the app, just hoping there can be some more added to differentiate and add more value for that topic.

Loved it to begin with and it got so much better recently (initially had small issues such as static sounds during the silent parts of the meditation, at least for me, but still enjoyed it and found it helpful) and recently new packages and some bug fixes just made it a lot better. Also love that it doesn't take itself too seriously like other meditation related content. Love the helpful animations that keep coming too. Keep it up!

  • Too pricey for a college kid! Nov 25, 2018

    By Nick my name!!
I love this app. I tried the free trial and loved it. The guided meditations really make the work easy and I found myself in a inducing a meditative state without lots of effort. They literally have a guided meditation for any situation or mood so it feels like their library is limitless. Unfortunately my free trial ran out and I bought a few months of headspace. In a way buying the app encouraged me to use it because I was spending my own money so that was good. However, when I moved into my first apartment I didn’t have enough money to keep my subscription going. I would love to buy headspace for life but I just don’t have $300 extra dollars sitting around to spend. I also feel that the subscription is pricey for something i don’t always want to use everyday. On days where I wanted to take a break from using my phone I lost my meditation streak which was disappointing. Sometimes I have a great day and don’t feel the need for headspace, but the subscription still takes the money from my pocket. On days when I really have a particular funky mood headspace is great because I feel like it can guide me through any kind of funk. I just wish it wasn’t so pricey. Buy this app if you like the meditations and have the money, but if you don’t have the dough, free meditation may be the way to go.

App version - Latest Android version - 11 Always meditated on the tube, these days the app doesn't function without internet, despite downloading meditations. It requires connection on every launch, the app doesn't load any of the tabs otherwise so you can't even navigate to your offline meditations. This is a real shame as these new requirements vastly limit the usefulness of the app for me. Maybe it's an Android 11 compatibility issue, but either way I'm hopeful it can be fixed soon.

TOO MUCH FRICTION. I have to hit the play button atleast three times to actually play anything.Eg. on focus screen, hit play (click1) for hans zimmer playlist it should play immediately but no I am taken to another screen, which has a begin play button (click2) I am now taken to one more screen where I can hit play again (click3) now it starts playing. This behaviour is across the app. UI needs a revamp such that it has one click play or resume next session when I open app.

This used to be a great app. Each update makes it harder and harder to find things. The organization of the app is horrible, messy, confusing, and not user friendly. Most of the good content (original stuff) gets lost behind all these banners, play now videos and additional click bate. I spend so much time searching and getting lost. When did meditation become workout sessions? I miss the layout from before Headspace became a sell-out, back when it was just Andy and fun characters.

Since the update a lot of the unlocked content is no longer available. I don't use this app often but when I do I liked to the beachcomber sleep cast, which now locked after being unlocked for like a year. Now that sleep casting is a "thing", they're charging you for what used to be free content within the app.

  • You will notice a difference, just be patient with yourself :) Jan 30, 2020

By Tolo of the Sky Clan
I am a medical student and this app has been a really incredible tool for me in my journey on how to calm my thoughts, to be aware of my own narratives about myself and how my mind heated with the world. I used to get mad at myself (and still do sometimes!!) if I found my mind wandering during a meditation, but now I know just realizing that my mind is wandering is such a huge first step on the way to a less spastic and fragmented thought-to-thought jumping nature of mind. Just noticing is a key to being content and feeling peace. But it takes dedication! Amidst my sometimes wild schedule I always try to meditate once per day, and the “daily meditation”, 3 minute version is great. The amount of hours put in is important, but the regularity If a daily practice I think is extremely valuable, so stick with it, you can do it! If you make this a priority and fit it into your day no matter what you will notice a difference after a few weeks, a couple months. But I’ve had to learn to also be patient with myself, sometimes it’s 3 steps forward and 2 steps back. A great gift idea for a friend or loved one. I hope you enjoy, join the movement to build a more beautiful life!

I love this app. Worth the membership. I've paid for a few years, so am unsure of what content is available on the free version. The content is great and the app is well made and easy to use. After trying several meditation apps, this was the one I decided to use and have always been pleased with that decision. I've never experienced playback issues or problems with the audio cutting out or skipping.

  • Now a Rewarding and Essential part of my Routine. Apr 23, 2018

    By SublimePastTime
I’ve been using the app religiously for about two weeks. After a recent ADD diagnosis, I thought it would be a good idea to start working meditation into my routine, and was willing to invest some resources into the guided regiment on Headspace. The problem had been nearly consuming my life and I was pretty frustrated. I was skeptical of “guided meditation” in particular, because I thought that someone talking you through the meditations through your headphones might defeat the purpose. I also have trouble sitting still in particular. I have not been disappointed. The app explicitly states that it is not intended to treat or cure attention deficit disorders, and I did not expect it to, but it significantly reduced the the severity of the problem almost overnight. I am also a collegiate music student, and I saw a tremendous difference in my practice routine and quality of playing as well. The content is very well organized and the methodology/philosophy is explained very thoroughly in fun-to-watch animations. I feel the difference at work and among friends. I just now put the app on the main dock in my phone, right beside the phone, messaging, and music apps. It is now a rewarding and essential part of my routine.

I like the app (although it seems to attract all kinds of unnecessary features that obscure the good content), but today I was thrown out of a meditation when a WhatsApp caused my phone to buzz. Is that a bug, or can I somehow ensure that this doesn't happen again? I have just upgraded my phone to Android 10 if that helps. Thanks!

Just updated the app for the first time in around a year. The new organization of meditation options is awful. Examples: you have a lot of activity-specific meditations, but the only way to access them is to remember what they're called and search. Also, i don't want to have to scroll forever, past lots of meditations that I'll never be choosing (e.g., kids), just to see what's available. Alphabetical organization of every option is tedious and difficult to get through.

  • New to Headspace Old to meditation Apr 16, 2020

I started meditating in high school during my senior year when I did a solo project on the Dalai Lama and Thich Naht Hanh. Meditation was rejuvenating and grounding. Fast forward the next 15 years and meditation was lost to the hustle and bustle of life. My work recently offered a trial of Headapace to a select few prior to launching for the entire team. I immediately signed up knowing although my current mind stated, “you don’t have time for that” but my deep mind stated “you need this!” And here I am remembering again the importance of living in the moment, taking in and appreciating the sounds, smells and feel of the world around me. Meditation got me through some very tough times as a teenager when I nearly lost my mother to a brain tumor and my father to mental illness. Now with the coronavirus pandemic, job insecurity and political unrest I again need to ground myself. Headspace allowed me to treasure again the here and now, to not only calm my flighty mind but feel my body the aches and tension releasing it. Just like physical health you must make the time to nourish your brain. 10 minutes a day is reasonable and will make a world of difference! Thank you Headapace for reminding me again to live in the moment and treasure the beauty of every day.

Great Content, Horrible UI. I love the contents, all the guided meditations are great, and it's nice to have the extra focus and sleep stuff as well as the workouts. However, the app has possibly the worst designed UI ever! There is no way to save a playlist of meditations that you may have started or want to start later. The only thing they have is a 'recent' as section which in my experience only shows you the last 2 packs. Add a saving feature and this would be a 5 star review!

I used this app for almost 2 years, but in the past 6 months have been getting really frustrated with it. First, the push notifications. I turned off push notifications within the app, but it still gives me daily frivelous push notifications, which do not help me. Second, I've had more trouble loading the app lately, where it randomly kicks me out. Third, the content us not worth the price tag for me anymore. Enjoyed it at the beginning, but will not be renewing.

Far too much choice and no way to personalise the experience.. You cant even favourite sessions. Maybe it's just me, but scrolling through an overwhelming amount of content with very little differences doesn't seem very mindful. With the constant push notification adverts and a pretty expensive membership, it seems this company kinda lost its way

Used to really like the simple app. Now they've added a bunch of fluff like workouts and videos. I like the meditations a lot, and some of the sleepcasts. However, my phone just woke me up with a push notification at MIDNIGHT (even though they are turned off) to tell me they have partnered with some kind of dating meditation app? NO THANKS. Meditation is NOT about pingy push notifications at midnight! If this happens again, I'll uninstall. Disappointing !

  • Bloated and annoying - no longer good for meditation Sep 2, 2020

    By steveo74
Had been using a couple years ago and made the mistake of re subscribing without checking out a trial first. They recently added many additional features that appear in your face all over the app. Literally the home screen has been taken over by annoying video ads for courses I have no interest in. My goal for meditation is to resist the constant flood of distractions ... so why choose an app that throws distractions in your face? As a result I no longer find it useful to use this app for meditation. It’s just too many swipes and too many taps to get to the meditation I want. And ads for irrelevant courses take over screen by screen and I feel like I’m swatting them away in anger. Doesn’t make me get into the proper mindset anymore. I’m sure all the new crap makes them a lot of money but I fail to see how celebrity endorsed yoga playlists have much to do with their initial mission. Sad to see a good app like this now ruined by chasing too many new business lines.

  • If only... Dec 29, 2018

    By Studying for life
At first I really loved this app and I didn't miss that some of the sessions we're locked and only for people who are subscribed but then I couldnt do the daily meditation feature because it started to lock all of them... I liked that with some packs you could do the first session to get a feel of what it it was about but then you would have to pay to get the rest of it. Because of this, for about six months, I was doing the basics pack (which is the only pack you get without paying) and so I didn't feel like meditating. I was losing all hope in this app until sleep by headspace came out. I have a lot of trouble sleeping and so this feature really helped me and I thought I could do as many sleepcasts i want but then..... As you could guess... It locked ALL OF THEM....now I can't meditate or sleep😔 if you have enough money to subscribe to this app, good for you because it's very nice and will help you a lot but if you can't subscribe, don't get your hopes up with this app. I just really wish it had more features for people who can't subscribe because in the end it leaves no options if you can't. If it had more options, I would be giving them at most four stars but because the don't, they're left with one. I really do wish I could keep this app but right now it's just taking up space😖

  • Cannot get a human to respond Feb 17, 2020

    By Carpeltunneltexting
I am super frustrated & don’t know what else to do to get a human to provide answers. I am having so many problems with the Headspace app- login issues, profile management, invited family members can’t create an account. I have tried the FAQs and online support but they don’t provide solutions. The “live chat” doesn’t exist. To unlink an account it says to contact support - who is that? I have emailed many requests but no answers. 4-6 days to respond due to high volumes. I still haven’t heard one iota of anything except that I’m in some queue. I just wanted a human to respond. Nobody has replied but yet my credit card is charged. And on our end, we can’t use the app. I realize I am just a drop in the bucket in terms of your users. But I want to cancel my account. I believe I get 30 days. But I’m afraid nobody will respond within that window and I will be stuck with a family subscription nobody can use. Please help me get out of the anxiety that trying to use app has caused. If that ain’t irony. 😂 What do I need to do to have a customer service representative contact me?

  • Doesn’t work well with Iwatch Aug 9, 2020

    By njalexsmith
I wish this app was designed to be more intuitive with the Apple Watch. I can only play a 1 minute breathing exercise on the iwatch app despite the website is conveying and customer support is poor. I sent an email to customer support. The first response from customer service is that my response will take longer than 48 hours with an apology. Second response was a name of a customer service agent and never heard back. I tried reaching out by DM on social media, but no response. Furthermore, if you use the 1 minute breathing exercise on the watch, it doesn’t sync to your account. The phone app is great, but I would like to use my phone less, not more. My phone is integrated with my work apps (email, calendar, teams, etc) and adds endless anxiety. Because the phone app is good, I wouldn’t give it just one star, however I am posting a 1 star review because both devs and customers only read 1 star reviews. Headspace has a customer service problem along with a poor iwatch app. I haven’t had an issue with the phone app.
