Only service that just doesn't work with Chromecast from handheld devices or tablets... It has the buttons to cast... It pretends it's casting but it's entirely confused. Multiple duplicate devices show up and none of them work... It says the video is playing when it's not... This is literally the only app I have that's entirely useless in terms of casting. The convenience I have using other services is noticeable and makes me rethink what services I'll keep as we start cutting expenses.

Absolute garbage. So many bugs. I use the app for flights. Airplane mode results in the app hanging, crashing and constantly telling you that you are offline. To make things worse, content you have downloaded constantly errors out. Unfortunately, you don't find this out until airborne and you are stuck with nothing. Garbage. Update: Support is useless. None of the generic troubleshooting tips fix it. Just a waste of time. Why do they even bother responding. This issue has been going on for YEARS

While I love the selection, this is by far the worst streaming app I've used. It's a struggle to get it to work, even when I'm trying to watch shows I've downloaded to watch offline. There have been many times when the app won't automatically jump to the next episode of a show or when it does, it will buffer endlessly until I exit the episode and manually go back into it. It is also the only app that I can't pause with earbuds or other Bluetooth devices. I also wish it had picture-in- picture.

If you're download expires, you're suppose to be able to renew it...but the renew button does nothing, so you'll need to delete it and redownload it again, taking another day to download. Tried over both wifi and cellular, no difference in speed.

HBO max you have too much money for this "Beta version" of an app. Too many glitches eg losing progress on shows and can't go back to where I was without the ability to navigate episodes. Navigation to the episode you want is standard in all streaming apps. It cannot withstand the slightest fluctuation in connectivity, with unstable internet the 'no connectivity' screen comes up too often. You can't continue to stream once minimized. The ad version has way too many ads. Pay extra for the peace!

The brilliant content deserves a better app
more lessI have loved HBO content for a long time, and it remains stellar. The app however needs some love. I’ve just had to delete and reinstall b/c it just stopped loading. Devs, if you are listening, focus on the travel scenario. It is currently not robust.

Too buggy. Wont play offline
more lessI want to love this app. It seems a service for this price and the HBO name would deliver a product that blows you away. The selection is great and when I’m connected to wifi or have a perfect signal I love the app. My problem arises when I download content and try to view it offline. 90% of the time it simply won’t work. It tells me I’m offline and can’t view it. I delete the content and download again but it won’t play. Offline viewing is what I really need because of where I work and have to view movies. I don’t usually have a signal. I’ve played with the settings and even deleted and reinstalled the app with no success. HBO, you can do better.

Great movies terrible app
more lessI love the amount of shows and movies HBO Max is. Totally worth spending money on, the problem I have is that it’s so slow and a nuisance when watching a movie or show and I get notification about streaming either with cellular data or WiFi. It’s so annoying having to go back and forth turning them on and off because of how it won’t stop changing it’s “mind” on my connection. Wish it was like Netflix more. Where it’s automatic on both ends. What’s also annoying is clicking in and out. I can’t exit the app with it still playing the movie. Another complaint is that the episodes aren’t laid out, have to retype the title to see again what is next or reading the description. It’s just super slow and is nowhere near how amazing the Netflix app is built. I hope it develops new downloads where it doesn’t create such a hassle trying to watch my shows and movies because it’s not worth $10 a month if all it’s gonna do is create problems and not allow me to watch movies on a smooth run. Also last thing, I hate how it’s so slow when I try to replay back. This goes the same for the website as well. Like Netflix has never given me this problem (I’m not complaining that Netflix is better but in comparison between app navigation, it is top tier) I like rewinding to watch best comical scenes and whatnot but Everytime I do on HBO I have to remind self to try and not do it or it crashes into this slow time warp. Please fix this!!

Connections are horrible, everytime i turn off my screen it always brings up connection issues when there is none. Maneuvering from a selected episode to even see others in a tv series takes extra steps in order to bring up. Or sometimes i just get a complete black screen no matter how much i try going to the home page; had to force stop it more times then i can even remember to bring up or change anything. Used to be my favorite streaming app, not so much anymore.

Buggy, slow, poorly designed, screen-waster
more lessGot a decent size iPhone? Good thing, cause this poorly designed app will waste about 30% of the screen by putting black bars on all four sides. They apparently took away full-screen mode at some point in the past year. Seems like it was intentional, since people have been complaining and they haven’t brought it back. I just rejoined, and the bad experience is making me think it will be a pay-for-a-month-and-out situation. Get your act together, HBO. Why throw all that money at making good content if your app dev team is going to chase away your subscribers? Update: the Developer response only addresses my “feature request” for full screen. That is a “feature restore” after some bizarrely-bad decision to remove it. I’m not going to go fill out some form to get it back - this should be obvious. Also, the app is objectively bad in many ways: slow, laggy, locks up randomly, crashes, poorly laid-out, odd controls, and so much more. No amount of feedback can help a team that would release such a bad app in the first place. They need to just look at other apps that work correctly, and do that. My review here is just to give fair warning to anyone considering watching HBO on their iPhone that it will be an annoying experience. The developer shouldn’t need to read the details here to know they’ve got a mess on their hands.

I can't help but to give this app a 2 star rating Everything was going smoothly for the first few months of having it and it was great However recently I went to put a show on and couldn't get past a black loading screen I gave it a little while to buffer only to find no video and audio playing for a few seconds before completely turning off my television Since that day, I run into this problem every time. I haven't been able to watch anything in my living room for weeks no matter what I do.

Awesome content, terrible app. If you lose internet connection while downloading, it corrupts the entire download and it needs to be completely restarted. If you select multiple items to download, instead of queuing them, it attempts to download all of them simultaneously, usually resulting in all items failing. Sometimes the app won't launch without internet, so good luck watching on long flights. This happened to me on an 18 hour flight, couldn't access any content I had downloaded.
