  • Can’t download the videos I’d purchased 😭

    Everything was peaches until by mistake I deleted the movie I’d purchased. I tried to download it again and the second movie I’ve purchased from this app but I can’t download it. The main reason I got this app and made purchases was because of my 2 year old who loves “Finding Dory” so I bought the movie from Google Play. It worked sure fine when I bought back in middle of December. I’d recently purchased “The Lion King” and my son loves it. I tried to download it to his iPad and by mistake I deleted his “Finding Dory” movie so I thought it wasn’t going to be a big deal if I just download it again but IT IS NOT WORKING!!!! I have done everything... and when I mean everything, I did everything. Obviously got in touch with “Support” and the guy tried to help me as much as he could but didn’t solve the problem. I am upset that I can’t download the movies to my son’s iPad, we have to sit in traffic for near two hrs and that was my only way to keep him entertained but not anymore. Please GOOGLE have an update soon and fix this issue. Sincerely, a desperate mom! 🙏🏻

    I live in a rural location & Internet speed is quite slow the main thing I like about this app is I can download videos & play them through TVs without buffering. There are a LOT of things I do not like about the app - the biggest annoyances are 1) you cannot buy movies through the app 2) the algorithm for "recommended by play" is either badly flawed or does not take into account my purchase history 3) it would really be nice if there was an "ignore list" so that videos that do not interest me would not keep being listed 4) there is not an age level block on the “recommended” list — needed if you want to hand an iPad to a young child I have seen several people indicating they have playback problems. As I mentioned my Internet access is quite slow but I have had good luck downloading movies to my iPad & watching them on a TV that has a Chromecast plugged into HDMI. This also works well when my wife & I visit with our children while their children watch a movie from my iPad on the TV.

    I just wanted to rent one movie online and this is one of the few options that pops up to do that. Turns out I have to download the movie using WiFi I don’t have access to. A message keeps popping up saying I can’t watch this movie offline without downloading. I do not have access to WiFi because I have unlimited data on my phone and don’t need WiFi for anything else because I have EXCELLENT service where I am at. The fact that I just paid to watch a movie just to find out that I can not watch that movie is COMPLETE BULL SH!T. I wish I had paid attention to the other reviews. There are so many other options out there. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP.

    I have lost the ability to download any of my purchased movies. I just get an error message when I try to download anything. All 3 of my devices have the same problem. I have tried all of the things they suggest in their help articles, but nothing works, and there is no way to contact them for help. Very disappointed! I have wasted a lot of money on movies that I can't even watch on my devices.

    I wanted to rent a movie using google play’s service because I got 99 cent rental offer when I bought a new TV. The problem is, how do I watch the rental? Google play movies app is not available and does not cast to Apple TV, Xbox One, Playstation 4, or any device I can think of... I am not really sure what the purpose of this app is. If its just to watch movies on your phone then it Is really useless because there are a ton of apps for that and you can even buy movies on the other apps. I cannot recommend this app until it explains why it should exist.

    I have lost my downloaded content due to the last update! i can no longer download my library films to watch when flying, this app has become useless, it no longer does what I need it to. Avoid!!! The email address doesn't allow you to email from Google mail, funny that! you have no way to complain to them either.

    Hey, GooglePlay, could you maybe NOT be a slow-assed, piece of crap?! I can’t watch a single thing because you keep buffering and losing connection every 2 to 6 minutes! And I KNOW it’s not the WiFi cuz every other app I use works just fine! It’s ONLY YOU that can’t seem to work properly! I’m paying money just to watch each movie and tv show (which isn’t the easiest thing to afford in this day and age), I’d at least like to be able to watch the whole thing without your stupid loading circle thing every 3 minutes! What is the point in having your app anywhere if it’s impossible to watch any content?! 🤬🤬🤬

    the app on android TV (Shield nivida) keeps switching from enable to disable. online every one is talking about it.it seems on all the android tv platform as an issue . but it is not easy to report it in android tv. here we have two issues..1) improve the feedback process on Android TV 2) fix the issue please.

    Every time ai rent a movie it stops playing. It does it several times saying “Error”. It gets very old starting a movie over and over and fast forwarding to where I was. Sometimes accidentally going too far and seeing ahead. When I went to report it, the “Describe your issue” feature was also broken and the app would close completely causing me again, to start over and over. Now I’m leaving feedback here. If this didn’t bug out, it would be the best app out there Roku tv. Wifi and hardline both experienced the issue. I did all troubleshooting suggestions. Still bugged out.

    Make you loose money by not mentioning the language of download so you end up downloading Hollywood movies in Hindi & inspite of sending feedback, they never acknowledge or reply or return the money. Quite a shame of how badly managed Google Play movies app is. Grow up Google, people all over the world watch movies in different languages & you need to tell them what is the movie's language when they are downloading it & why do you ask for feedback if you are not going to listen or reply or change

    Apparently I can only rent 4k streams now that are more expensive and my chromecast doesn't support. This wasn't a problem before, but i guesa they have to squeeze out every last bit of revenue. Will not use again until this changes.

    Doesn't always work (Samsung TV) and impossible to contact if there are issues. We can play movies fine except for one (Hereditary). click to rent and it just hangs then says try again. Tried for 3 days and gave up. No error code. no support outside of the US. Interface horrible too.

    I find it a bit annoying I cannot rent or buy movies directly from my phone within the app. I have to open a browser on my phone to rent or purchase any content and then return to the app in order to watch it. My second issue may not be Google’s fault since they are in competition with Apple but wouldn’t it be great to have Google Movies and TV as an app for Apple TV? Please continue to improve the app and listen to reviews so you can improve your services. Thanks.

    I just got a new tablet for Christmas and have had nothing but issues with this app where I would enable it after the update and it would work for a bit, but then the app somehow disappears from the device, taking with it any of the movies I downloaded. I want to give a higher rating as I've never had issues until now, but until I don't have to keep reinstalling this app and then redownload movies, this is a 2 star app at best

    I had credit on Google Play AND on Google Pay but when I tried to buy a movie combining both credits the app wouldn't complete the transaction. It kept saying insufficient funds. This is very frustrating!!! PLEASE FIX!! It works when I use a Google Play credit and my debit card. It should work the same way with Google Play credit and Google Pay credit.

    After buying a 30 min episode - I have spent almost 2 hours trying to get it to work. Following all of the ‘trouble shooting’ through pages and pages of instructions. Being so frustrated with it in the end, I decided to get a refund and was presented with a further list of instructions that is so over the top, I won’t even bother. Which is probably the whole point- so they get to keep the money because they have zero customer support and pages of instructions designed to make you give up on it.

    Please, please add a rewind/skip back button for 10 or 30 seconds. I really like using google play as my central account for renting and buying movies since I can easily keep track of them as well as cast them toy chromecasts. However, the inability to jump back 30 seconds is ridiculous considering how ubiquitous it has become on every other video playing app. Also, do us all a favor and add the ability to rent/buy media through the app.

    I everytime I try and watch an episode of the programme I brought that wasn't cheap! it takes ages to load to the point where I just give up and watch something on netflix. Or when it does finally play it freezes or the screen goes funny or I close and reopen the app and it stays on a blank black screen. And I know its nothing to do with the tablet I'm using due it it being brand new. After I finally watch my last episode will definitely not be using this app again! Waste of time really.

    It used to be I could watch my offline shows and movies for months with my iPad or iPhone 5s without having to connect to the internet. As I live where internet is intermittent. I have to connect to the internet after only a few episodes. And the worst part is now I have to have internet to use airplay mirror. This used to be a great app. I wish I could get my money back. I will be going to iTunes because when I buy something there isn't all the restrictions like on here.

    Dreadful. I rate Google Play Movies a big fat zero. For years now, if I pause a casted movie to my TV for longer than 2 minutes and then resume it says "there was trouble communicating with Living Room TV". I then have to stop casting and cast again, every time I pause. Typical Google and their half-baked apps. All Google ever do is put in minimal effort. Advertising company at heart and it shows.

    🤬doesn't work on Samsung Galaxy Tab S4. constantly crashes and disables. every time I want to watch movies I've already paid for, I have to go back in the Google Play Store and click enable. I have no idea why this app keeps disabling itself. this is the only app that is doing this. very frustrating.

    Cannot purchase or rent items from the app. Very inconvenient and not user friendly. The “how do I watch this” link on an item page does not even answer the question. It merely states that purchasing is not supported on this device. What’s the easiest way to rent/buy a movie and watch it? Without a streamlined solution the end-user is going to default to the Apple iTunes Store. Hope your happy Alphabet!

    It is so incredibly annoying that you only sell movies with a limited selection of subtitle languages. I would like to be able to buy the material in any language I desire. Same goes for voice on for example Disney movies. I love in Denmark, so you will only sell me the Danish spoken version. However, my spoken language is English. Why can't I buy the original?!? Grrrrr.

    Took two days and nearly all my data to download my 4 movies and then the app forced an update because it couldn't "fetch licensing" for the movies in order to play them. If you can't get it then don't allow people to pay for the movie then. All downloads were lost during update and I'm livid. All new downloads are twice as big and take just as long to download without wifi. Super unhappy to say the least.

    So I will give this app 2 stars because it allows you to watch movies and tv you have purchased from the Google Play store. However, this is really only half an app because you cannot purchase movies or tv from the app. Will rate 5 stars if this gets included. Aside from that, app works perfectly fine - just a huge oversight leaving the store part out of this app (I can’t throw my money at you either :-/).

    Loved google till I read the entire Damore memo for myself and saw the screen shots of not hiring white or asian men. People aren’t random, over 70% of USA is white, google is only 55% white and they are desperately trying to lower that! The only way to “appear” to not be racist is to actually be systemically racist. Equality of opportunity is democracy. Equality of outcome is communism. Olympics are fair, but the podium is never politically correct/equal. You shouldn’t punish Norway for too many gold medals and “Norway privilege.” #boycottgoogle #cathynewnaninterview

    Google should let buyers/renters know that you can not watch movies unless you download the play store app, I now have 26 days to buy try and get this movie viewed by my daughter before it expires. It won’t even let me pull the movie up on her phone via my google account. They should not sell movies to people that don’t have access to a google phone, as I could have rented the movie from iTunes and had no problem. 😡

    This app allows purchase of seasons however most episodes don’t appear in a timely manner… Sometimes not for several days or weeks. Also, after downloading a show that You have purchased you are NOT able to PLAY it on your television and must stream it through the Internet instead, which can completely defeats the purpose of downloading it in the first place. SOOOO FRUSTRATING!

    Google please fix this app. I have been waiting months. Pease fix the black bars appearing on sides of iPad Pro 11” for all Google Apps. They currently look aweful and unusable. At moment I am still very loyal to Google ecosystem mostly because up until this iPad 11, movies or music from Google play worked on all my devices. Seems you want to change that. I'm switching out of your ecosystem if you don't fix this asap.

I get these black bars I can’t do anything about, and even worse you get small ones on the top and bottom when watching a wide screen movie.     So before I went on vacation, I downloaded a load of movies with my personal Gmail Account. During the vacation I added a couple of G Suite accounts; all of my movies are tied to my personal account yet Google Play decided to log me out of my personal account, log me into an account I haven’t used in years, and left me without any downloaded movies. I logged back into my personal account only to find that all my movies were removed, but in Settings, it showed that I had 17GB of data used for downloaded movies stuck within the Play Movies app. So disappointed, going to Movies Anywhere or back to Apple TV, Google must have used interns to test this app!

    I just downloaded the app and the part that says “ cant refresh. Null “ makes me press try again many times and the search bar seems to not work. If this technical problem is not fixed I will delete the app and rate the app a one star. Please fix it. Thank you very much.

    Only limited functionalities are working for all accounts. Legacy accounts will not be able to share Content among family members. Terrible when you can not buy a movie for your kids if you are not in the same room. Sometimes stupid limitation will cost a client. I have to buy my digital content somewhere else 🙁

    There has been a bug for years where if you have a lot of content downloaded and toggle “downloaded-only” to on it will take 10+ minutes to load. At first I had this on an iphone 6s, and now again with an iphone xr. google obviously doesn’t care about ios. i have a $3k+ library in google play and will be switching to itunes

    Simply plays and stores your purchases. Doesn’t track what you play so you can tell where you left off. Doesn’t allow you to easily skip back and forth if you miss something. Doesn’t allow you to delete things you’ve bought.

    I rented a movie and tried to play it but I will only play for 15 minutes at a time and then I would have to turn off my TV and unplug my Wi-Fi router in order for it to continue playing at first I thought it was a Wi-Fi problem but after I fixed it it turned out to just be the app I do not recommend!

    Using a generation one Chromecast. The app is extremely unstable. I have to power cycle my phone in order to connect. During playback, I consistently lose the ability to control what is playing. I am using the most recent version, updated three minutes ago. Please make your app more stable.

    I like it for my son bc it’s the only platform that has Sarah & Duck. But it lags more often than not - error messages are common even on my smart tv. I also think it should auto play series shows; it’s lacking on that front.

    I'm rating this app 1 star because on my Roku you don't show movie ratings. You somehow think showing ratings is going to make me slip over a badly rated movie. Yes it's true. But having no ratings means I skip over all the movies because now I don't use the APP at all. I use Amazon because they show movie ratings. Way to shoot yourself in the foot Google!

    Google should let buyers/renters know that you can not watch movies unless you download the play store app, I now have 26 days to buy try and get this movie viewed by my daughter before it expires. It won’t even let me pull the movie up on her phone via my google account. They should not sell movies to people that don’t have access to a google phone, as I could have rented the movie from iTunes and had no problem. 😡

    It’s obvious Google doesn’t invest many resources in the iOS version. The app is horrible! Numerous purchased movies wont download. It just sits there with a spinning circle. Plus, if you have a large number of movies in your library and set to show downloaded only, it will literally hang the app for 2-3 minutes each time you navigate. Stay far away unless you use Android

    There has been a bug for years where if you have a lot of content downloaded and toggle “downloaded-only” to on it will take 10+ minutes to load. At first I had this on an iphone 6s, and now again with an iphone xr. google obviously doesn’t care about ios. i have a $3k+ library in google play and will be switching to itunes

    Everything was peaches until by mistake I deleted the movie I’d purchased. I tried to download it again and the second movie I’ve purchased from this app but I can’t download it. The main reason I got this app and made purchases was because of my 2 year old who loves “Finding Dory” so I bought the movie from Google Play. It worked sure fine when I bought back in middle of December. I’d recently purchased “The Lion King” and my son loves it. I tried to download it to his iPad and by mistake I deleted his “Finding Dory” movie so I thought it wasn’t going to be a big deal if I just download it again but IT IS NOT WORKING!!!! I have done everything... and when I mean everything, I did everything. Obviously got in touch with “Support” and the guy tried to help me as much as he could but didn’t solve the problem. I am upset that I can’t download the movies to my son’s iPad, we have to sit in traffic for near two hrs and that was my only way to keep him entertained but not anymore. Please GOOGLE have an update soon and fix this issue. Sincerely, a desperate mom! 🙏🏻

    Only wanted to rent or buy co tent made available, and it required signing in on your phone through the app, typing in the code first. After typing in the code, it failed to work every time. Erasing. I now see why I left Google and their sad array of services.

    I find it a bit annoying I cannot rent or buy movies directly from my phone within the app. I have to open a browser on my phone to rent or purchase any content and then return to the app in order to watch it. My second issue may not be Google’s fault since they are in competition with Apple but wouldn’t it be great to have Google Movies and TV as an app for Apple TV? Please continue to improve the app and listen to reviews so you can improve your services. Thanks.

    Do not like that I cannot purchase movies from the app. Dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. Having to purchase online and then save the movie to your phone ( while you’re on WiFi , because you can’t stream the movie on your data ) is ridiculous. Come on Google! Step it up!

    So before I went on vacation, I downloaded a load of movies with my personal Gmail Account. During the vacation I added a couple of G Suite accounts; all of my movies are tied to my personal account yet Google Play decided to log me out of my personal account, log me into an account I haven’t used in years, and left me without any downloaded movies. I logged back into my personal account only to find that all my movies were removed, but in Settings, it showed that I had 17GB of data used for downloaded movies stuck within the Play Movies app. So disappointed, going to Movies Anywhere or back to Apple TV, Google must have used interns to test this app!

    An okay app but could use some work. As I like to travel with just my iPad, and would like to be able to see the price of the movies and the ability to rent movies. All you can do is see what movies they offer and download it after you get it from a computer.

    Update: zero day bugs that are years old still present in the app. Worst example: the app basically freezes indefinitely (I usually just get fed up and force quit) when trying to browse the Library with the “Downloaded only” flag set. Original review: Search, Maps, Gmail/Calendar, YouTube, etc. are tier one: updated frequently, periodic new features, well-maintained. Voice, Wallet ("Pay Send"???) and Movies are in the second tier: poorly maintained, buggy, and feature set languishing at what's essentially a MVP. Thank you for three updates in a year, and finally releasing iPhone X support 7 months late. I've happily spent hundreds on Google Play content because of cross platform support, but to the PM of this product: PLEASE get your sht together, ask for more resources, and bring this app into line with the YouTube app's functionality and polish. Or just EOL this app and allow downloading and better browsing for my purchases in the YouTube app. Save me from the AppleTunes and Bezos Prime walled gardens.

    It takes way too long to get back into a show you’re currently watching. There’s no resume button and it makes you scroll the whole way down in addition to the 5 presses more than should be necessary. Also, the app crashes constantly, deleting all progress in the movie or episode and nothing is being done to address that. Save your time and go get Netflix or Hulu

    I like it for my son bc it’s the only platform that has Sarah & Duck. But it lags more often than not - error messages are common even on my smart tv. I also think it should auto play series shows; it’s lacking on that front.

    My advice don’t use on any Apple device you can watch your movies you’ve purchased on google play tv through YouTube instead I do all the time on my IPod can’t download the movies though that’s a biggest down side doing this way I wish they would fix that issue in the future but I don’t have any problems playing the videos though I always mine connected to the internet when it’s possible for movies but when I can’t I just listen to my audible app instead or use my amazon music to.

    When will this be updated to filter movies by quality? I’d like to see the movies I own I. 4K. Also, update the Google Play app for Roku TV while you’re at it. I mainly use Vudu because it’s better in every way except family sharing.

    I had an option between buying a movie through this app, YouTube or amazon prime. I usually use prime but decided to try something new. I pay for the movie. Download the app and of course IT DOESN'T WORK. It keeps saying to watch without connection you need to download the movie, meanwhile IM CONNECTED TO WIFI. So, now I’ve been waiting 30 min and it’s only 1/4 downloaded. Oh and I have a time limit to watch the movie for a school discussion !! Had to purchase through another site. Will be getting my money back. Even connected yo WiFi and having data, I still would’ve had to wait for it to download, SLOWLY. Waste of time.

    Okay, so I intended to carry on using Google Play TV & Movies after going to iPhone as I had actually paid for a few things. Well guess what, the app won’t let me download a movie I bought, and now I cannot use the stupid thing to login to the play tv & movie app on a smart tv. What the heck guys!? I use android for nearly 6yrs and now I’m ready to just about wash my hands of it. I keep up with all your ridiculous login demands, hop through your hoops and yet you’re stuff is NOT working when it’s things “I PAID FOR” that is NOT acceptable. Thus my reason for the title, you are failing. When someone pays for something, and you make a sub standard app because you hate apple, this makes you seem genuinely petty. You lost me to your phones when they nearly doubled in cost, and the insurance on the phone tripled. Yet apple stay at competitive prices and higher functionality. This is why so many won’t even consider Android. You make it too hard, ask too much and your products don’t always work. FYI I’m copying and sending this through email to a friend. She is right, this isn’t acceptable.

    This app allows purchase of seasons however most episodes don’t appear in a timely manner… Sometimes not for several days or weeks. Also, after downloading a show that You have purchased you are NOT able to PLAY it on your television and must stream it through the Internet instead, which can completely defeats the purpose of downloading it in the first place. SOOOO FRUSTRATING!

    The XS Max has an amazing screen, that is wasted on this app. You get black bars on both sides and top/bottom. So as much as you want to take advantage of the screen, no such luck.
