    Frustrating. Time and data-wasting. I keep having to re-download films to watch offline. I download a film when there is broadband so I can watch later but when I go to watch it a day or two later, the download has gone. If I can't guarantee that my offline library is safe I will stop buying films. The Amazon app does not have the same problem.

    Everything was peaches until by mistake I deleted the movie I’d purchased. I tried to download it again and the second movie I’ve purchased from this app but I can’t download it. The main reason I got this app and made purchases was because of my 2 year old who loves “Finding Dory” so I bought the movie from Google Play. It worked sure fine when I bought back in middle of December. I’d recently purchased “The Lion King” and my son loves it. I tried to download it to his iPad and by mistake I deleted his “Finding Dory” movie so I thought it wasn’t going to be a big deal if I just download it again but IT IS NOT WORKING!!!! I have done everything... and when I mean everything, I did everything. Obviously got in touch with “Support” and the guy tried to help me as much as he could but didn’t solve the problem. I am upset that I can’t download the movies to my son’s iPad, we have to sit in traffic for near two hrs and that was my only way to keep him entertained but not anymore. Please GOOGLE have an update soon and fix this issue. Sincerely, a desperate mom! 🙏🏻

    This app has major bug and is a fraud. I purchased quite a number of HD movies and download on my phone so that I can watch on long flight. But it has happen multiple times it unable to fetch license when I want to watch movie. When that happen I have to reinstall the app and re download movies. I already paid for the purchase which should be perpetual so why should I have to keep on re downloading the movies? Come on Google, you should be able to do better than that.

    I live in a rural location & Internet speed is quite slow the main thing I like about this app is I can download videos & play them through TVs without buffering. There are a LOT of things I do not like about the app - the biggest annoyances are 1) you cannot buy movies through the app 2) the algorithm for "recommended by play" is either badly flawed or does not take into account my purchase history 3) it would really be nice if there was an "ignore list" so that videos that do not interest me would not keep being listed 4) there is not an age level block on the “recommended” list — needed if you want to hand an iPad to a young child I have seen several people indicating they have playback problems. As I mentioned my Internet access is quite slow but I have had good luck downloading movies to my iPad & watching them on a TV that has a Chromecast plugged into HDMI. This also works well when my wife & I visit with our children while their children watch a movie from my iPad on the TV.

    I have a Pixel 2 phone (just updated to latest android 9). I have updated all the installed applications, including Google Play Movies & TV. I have Google Fiber in my house with several TV boxes. I am connected to my home wifi network. Try as I might, I can't cast anything to any of those TV boxes from my phone using this trash application. I can cast Youtube videos using the Youtube application. Heaven forbid I might want to cast the movie I just rented through Google Play on an actual TV. Between this, the random channels being blacked out on my TV boxes with no rhyme or reason, and Google's tried and true habit of cancelling services, I think I may be done with Google products.

    Very buggy on my Chromebook. 2-finger swiping (on the trackpad) to the LEFT scrubs (slowly) forwards and to the RIGHT (slowly) rewinds. The exact opposite of what you'd expect. After a short while it chokes completely with "There was an error". This functionality in general is very pooly serviced by Google on this app. It could be so much better.

    When I buy a movie that’s supposed to be 4K or at least better than regular HD, I’d expect to get what I pay for. Now I get to watch a somewhat HD version of Interstellar after purchasing the 4K version. Not to happy about that. I would think it wouldn’t matter that the devices I’ve tried watching them on are new (iPhone X and 2nd generation iPad Pro)! I guess I’ll just had to go back to punching video contact on iTunes. Thought google would treat me well, but I guess I was wrong. Gave 2 stars because my movie was a bit cheaper than other platforms... I guess I see why now.

    Horrible picture quality on Chromecast. You would think they'd be more competitive on their own platforms, but Google really doesn't deliver. We live in a rural area where the only Internet service is wireless, e.g. satellite or cell. We use a mobile hotspot for all our devices, so maybe that would be an excuse EXCEPT every other streaming app has better picture quality on our Chromecast. Pretty disappointing, but i guess there's a workaround, so... oh well.

    I wanted to rent a movie using google play’s service because I got 99 cent rental offer when I bought a new TV. The problem is, how do I watch the rental? Google play movies app is not available and does not cast to Apple TV, Xbox One, Playstation 4, or any device I can think of... I am not really sure what the purpose of this app is. If its just to watch movies on your phone then it Is really useless because there are a ton of apps for that and you can even buy movies on the other apps. I cannot recommend this app until it explains why it should exist.

    Casting to my Chromecast no longer works smoothly. Constant connecting error messages and once it started playing after an hours worth of attempts it wouldn't let me pause the movie. I would get an error message saying cannot connect. I have always supported Google products and apps and now it's just embarrassing. It began with Google Play Music going downhill with the YouTube Music takeover. But YouTube Music is terrible. One product after another is crashing....why?

    Hey, GooglePlay, could you maybe NOT be a slow-assed, piece of crap?! I can’t watch a single thing because you keep buffering and losing connection every 2 to 6 minutes! And I KNOW it’s not the WiFi cuz every other app I use works just fine! It’s ONLY YOU that can’t seem to work properly! I’m paying money just to watch each movie and tv show (which isn’t the easiest thing to afford in this day and age), I’d at least like to be able to watch the whole thing without your stupid loading circle thing every 3 minutes! What is the point in having your app anywhere if it’s impossible to watch any content?! 🤬🤬🤬

    utter waste of time and money. purchased 13 movies and 4 tv series so far. downloaded over wifi to be able to watch offline on holiday. constantly get a prompt saying license cannot be fetched, download again. done this 5 times for ALL the movies and tv. no reply from app creator. never had this issue before Jan 2019. worked fine. how do i get a refund for product i can't use?

    I just wanted to rent one movie online and this is one of the few options that pops up to do that. Turns out I have to download the movie using WiFi I don’t have access to. A message keeps popping up saying I can’t watch this movie offline without downloading. I do not have access to WiFi because I have unlimited data on my phone and don’t need WiFi for anything else because I have EXCELLENT service where I am at. The fact that I just paid to watch a movie just to find out that I can not watch that movie is COMPLETE BULL SH!T. I wish I had paid attention to the other reviews. There are so many other options out there. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP.

    Every time ai rent a movie it stops playing. It does it several times saying “Error”. It gets very old starting a movie over and over and fast forwarding to where I was. Sometimes accidentally going too far and seeing ahead. When I went to report it, the “Describe your issue” feature was also broken and the app would close completely causing me again, to start over and over. Now I’m leaving feedback here. If this didn’t bug out, it would be the best app out there Roku tv. Wifi and hardline both experienced the issue. I did all troubleshooting suggestions. Still bugged out.

    The fact that you say "Free and solicit (free) as in install this app that costs you A monthly fee to get a free view of select movies" is going overboard... "free means free not freemium" soliciting scum Google... Give me a list of actual free things "rental or not" free should never be tangled up with the words install a payed app first on a direct video platform that should have it it's self...

    App used to be great until recently. i pruchased and downloaded films to watch on a flight and then the license couldn't be fetched. What? So I paid for movies I couldn't watch. I've tried redownloading one but same result. Very sad to see this happen. Google play music also has issues. I feel like I'm wasting my money and need to look for an alternative.

    I can't view downloaded movies on my phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 8). I get an error message: "Couldn't fetch your license". This is very disappointing. I have used Google play movies for years. I have started looking for another more reliable platform. UPDATE Apr 14, 2019 - Absolutely NO CHANGE! Called Google again. They took a screenshot of the error message from my phone but did nothing. All Google's responses have been consistently non-responsive to the issue and unhelpful. What gives?

    I find it a bit annoying I cannot rent or buy movies directly from my phone within the app. I have to open a browser on my phone to rent or purchase any content and then return to the app in order to watch it. My second issue may not be Google’s fault since they are in competition with Apple but wouldn’t it be great to have Google Movies and TV as an app for Apple TV? Please continue to improve the app and listen to reviews so you can improve your services. Thanks.

    The binge watching option for auto playing the next episode never works when using via Chromecast. It's annoying.. When you then go back into the app to play the next episode, it plays after pressing play but it's disconnected from the Chromecast. You have to tap the Chromecast icon.

    After buying a 30 min episode - I have spent almost 2 hours trying to get it to work. Following all of the ‘trouble shooting’ through pages and pages of instructions. Being so frustrated with it in the end, I decided to get a refund and was presented with a further list of instructions that is so over the top, I won’t even bother. Which is probably the whole point- so they get to keep the money because they have zero customer support and pages of instructions designed to make you give up on it.

    More than once, they deducted cash from my bank account and failed to provide the film that I ordered. They did refund the cash (about a week later) but this whole process of being charged and then not being given the film and then waiting a week for the refund gets on your nerves. You feel cheated. Maybe this doesn't happen to everyone...just sharing my experience.

    Please, please add a rewind/skip back button for 10 or 30 seconds. I really like using google play as my central account for renting and buying movies since I can easily keep track of them as well as cast them toy chromecasts. However, the inability to jump back 30 seconds is ridiculous considering how ubiquitous it has become on every other video playing app. Also, do us all a favor and add the ability to rent/buy media through the app.

  • Offline play is now horrible

    It used to be I could watch my offline shows and movies for months with my iPad or iPhone 5s without having to connect to the internet. As I live where internet is intermittent. I have to connect to the internet after only a few episodes. And the worst part is now I have to have internet to use airplay mirror. This used to be a great app. I wish I could get my money back. I will be going to iTunes because when I buy something there isn't all the restrictions like on here.

    Within the past few days when I try to watch a movie to watch that I have downloaded to view without having to have a strong internet connection, it just shows the loading screen. It will not play the movie. I deleted the download and tried to download it again and it just does the same thing. If I delete the download I can watch the movie that way, but that is not what I want it do.

    Cannot purchase or rent items from the app. Very inconvenient and not user friendly. The “how do I watch this” link on an item page does not even answer the question. It merely states that purchasing is not supported on this device. What’s the easiest way to rent/buy a movie and watch it? Without a streamlined solution the end-user is going to default to the Apple iTunes Store. Hope your happy Alphabet!

    So I will give this app 2 stars because it allows you to watch movies and tv you have purchased from the Google Play store. However, this is really only half an app because you cannot purchase movies or tv from the app. Will rate 5 stars if this gets included. Aside from that, app works perfectly fine - just a huge oversight leaving the store part out of this app (I can’t throw my money at you either :-/).

People aren’t random, over 70% of USA is white, google is only 55% white and they are desperately trying to lower that! The only way to “appear” to not be racist is to actually be systemically racist. Equality of opportunity is democracy. Equality of outcome is communism.     Google should let buyers/renters know that you can not watch movies unless you download the play store app, I now have 26 days to buy try and get this movie viewed by my daughter before it expires. It won’t even let me pull the movie up on her phone via my google account. They should not sell movies to people that don’t have access to a google phone, as I could have rented the movie from iTunes and had no problem. 😡

    This app allows purchase of seasons however most episodes don’t appear in a timely manner… Sometimes not for several days or weeks. Also, after downloading a show that You have purchased you are NOT able to PLAY it on your television and must stream it through the Internet instead, which can completely defeats the purpose of downloading it in the first place. SOOOO FRUSTRATING!

    Google please fix this app. I have been waiting months. Pease fix the black bars appearing on sides of iPad Pro 11” for all Google Apps. They currently look aweful and unusable. At moment I am still very loyal to Google ecosystem mostly because up until this iPad 11, movies or music from Google play worked on all my devices. Seems you want to change that. I'm switching out of your ecosystem if you don't fix this asap.

I get these black bars I can’t do anything about, and even worse you get small ones on the top and bottom when watching a wide screen movie.     So before I went on vacation, I downloaded a load of movies with my personal Gmail Account. During the vacation I added a couple of G Suite accounts; all of my movies are tied to my personal account yet Google Play decided to log me out of my personal account, log me into an account I haven’t used in years, and left me without any downloaded movies. I logged back into my personal account only to find that all my movies were removed, but in Settings, it showed that I had 17GB of data used for downloaded movies stuck within the Play Movies app. So disappointed, going to Movies Anywhere or back to Apple TV, Google must have used interns to test this app!

    Google made a big announcement they would be upgrading pwoole's HD movies to 4K with alerts telling us when we got the upgrades. It appears that's impossible on iPhone. I know this is a competitor platform but giving us a half-baked app that ok not provides half the functionality is not a good way to entice Apple users to switch.

    Only limited functionalities are working for all accounts. Legacy accounts will not be able to share Content among family members. Terrible when you can not buy a movie for your kids if you are not in the same room. Sometimes stupid limitation will cost a client. I have to buy my digital content somewhere else 🙁

I have the hardest time trying to play the movies I have purchased from this app, it skips, and pulls the whole “we’re having trouble playing this movie” bit.     There has been a bug for years where if you have a lot of content downloaded and toggle “downloaded-only” to on it will take 10+ minutes to load. At first I had this on an iphone 6s, and now again with an iphone xr. google obviously doesn’t care about ios. i have a $3k+ library in google play and will be switching to itunes

    Simply plays and stores your purchases. Doesn’t track what you play so you can tell where you left off. Doesn’t allow you to easily skip back and forth if you miss something. Doesn’t allow you to delete things you’ve bought.

    I rented a movie and tried to play it but I will only play for 15 minutes at a time and then I would have to turn off my TV and unplug my Wi-Fi router in order for it to continue playing at first I thought it was a Wi-Fi problem but after I fixed it it turned out to just be the app I do not recommend!

    The app itself is fine for use on my phone, but Airplay is awful. It constantly crashes and then when I finally get it to work there’s no sound half the time and then I have to disconnect and close the app and try again. Huge pain.

    Using a generation one Chromecast. The app is extremely unstable. I have to power cycle my phone in order to connect. During playback, I consistently lose the ability to control what is playing. I am using the most recent version, updated three minutes ago. Please make your app more stable.

    I purchased season 10 of rupauls drag race and episode 5 aired last night and it still not available for me to view it but its on vh1s mobile app. I bought the season so I can watch it add free and download it to watch it while I’m out.     I like it for my son bc it’s the only platform that has Sarah & Duck. But it lags more often than not - error messages are common even on my smart tv. I also think it should auto play series shows; it’s lacking on that front.

    Only buying from iTunes from now on. Bought a movie so I could download it and watch without internet. Downloaded on my iPad, and all the sudden "my offline capabilities have expired". Their help center is also extremely unhelpful and did not resolve the issue.

    When I buy a movie that’s supposed to be 4K or at least better than regular HD, I’d expect to get what I pay for. Now I get to watch a somewhat HD version of Interstellar after purchasing the 4K version. Not to happy about that. I would think it wouldn’t matter that the devices I’ve tried watching them on are new (iPhone X and 2nd generation iPad Pro)! I guess I’ll just had to go back to punching video contact on iTunes. Thought google would treat me well, but I guess I was wrong. Gave 2 stars because my movie was a bit cheaper than other platforms... I guess I see why now.

    This app sucked the second I downloaded it. Rented an episode and it will not play. It just keeps buffering. All of my other apps are working perfectly. Would not recommend. Not worth it.

    This app has been my go to for my digital libraries on iPad for the last few years. The ONLY apple device i own is ipad because no chromebook or android tablet compares. In comes my new iPad Pro. The app isn’t sized for the display. Good thing for movies anywhere because Vudu, MA, Prime Video all have my display. Boo. I expect Google to be better than this. Take the app off the store don’t torture your OWN customers that give you money for so much more services. Also build something competitive to the iPad, not something you have convinced yourself into thinking is better/on par. Looking forward to the update so i can change the review.

    Within the past few days when I try to watch a movie to watch that I have downloaded to view without having to have a strong internet connection, it just shows the loading screen. It will not play the movie. I deleted the download and tried to download it again and it just does the same thing. If I delete the download I can watch the movie that way, but that is not what I want it do.

    Tried setting up with Roku got all the way to enter code and it would not allow me to hit next. Worse I tried giving feedback and when you go to click to start typing feedback it kicks you out of app. Great work Google thanks for wasting my time I’m going with Amazon tv instead now

    This is the WORST app I have in my phone. I have unfortunately purchased several movies through here. I have the hardest time trying to play the movies I have purchased from this app, it skips, and pulls the whole “we’re having trouble playing this movie” bit. I wish I could take all my movies from this app and put them somewhere else lol. Come one Google, get with it.

    Completely missing some of the most basic things you’d expect from a video player. Things like a way to skip ahead 10/30/whatever seconds and to rewind option, etc. Also, you can’t buy films/shows from the app (because Google and Apple hate each other obviously), no, you have to sign on to your account from a pc (or I’m just guessing an Android device would work too) and make the purchase there. I can live with that last complaint. Having no basic control over things like fast forwarding or rewinding though is just sad and pathetic really.

    Google made a big announcement they would be upgrading pwoole's HD movies to 4K with alerts telling us when we got the upgrades. It appears that's impossible on iPhone. I know this is a competitor platform but giving us a half-baked app that ok not provides half the functionality is not a good way to entice Apple users to switch.

    Google please fix this app. I have been waiting months. Pease fix the black bars appearing on sides of iPad Pro 11” for all Google Apps. They currently look aweful and unusable. At moment I am still very loyal to Google ecosystem mostly because up until this iPad 11, movies or music from Google play worked on all my devices. Seems you want to change that. I'm switching out of your ecosystem if you don't fix this asap.

    I'm rating this app 1 star because on my Roku you don't show movie ratings. You somehow think showing ratings is going to make me slip over a badly rated movie. Yes it's true. But having no ratings means I skip over all the movies because now I don't use the APP at all. I use Amazon because they show movie ratings. Way to shoot yourself in the foot Google!

    Google should let buyers/renters know that you can not watch movies unless you download the play store app, I now have 26 days to buy try and get this movie viewed by my daughter before it expires. It won’t even let me pull the movie up on her phone via my google account. They should not sell movies to people that don’t have access to a google phone, as I could have rented the movie from iTunes and had no problem. 😡

    It’s obvious Google doesn’t invest many resources in the iOS version. The app is horrible! Numerous purchased movies wont download. It just sits there with a spinning circle. Plus, if you have a large number of movies in your library and set to show downloaded only, it will literally hang the app for 2-3 minutes each time you navigate. Stay far away unless you use Android

    There has been a bug for years where if you have a lot of content downloaded and toggle “downloaded-only” to on it will take 10+ minutes to load. At first I had this on an iphone 6s, and now again with an iphone xr. google obviously doesn’t care about ios. i have a $3k+ library in google play and will be switching to itunes

    Everything was peaches until by mistake I deleted the movie I’d purchased. I tried to download it again and the second movie I’ve purchased from this app but I can’t download it. The main reason I got this app and made purchases was because of my 2 year old who loves “Finding Dory” so I bought the movie from Google Play. It worked sure fine when I bought back in middle of December. I’d recently purchased “The Lion King” and my son loves it. I tried to download it to his iPad and by mistake I deleted his “Finding Dory” movie so I thought it wasn’t going to be a big deal if I just download it again but IT IS NOT WORKING!!!! I have done everything... and when I mean everything, I did everything. Obviously got in touch with “Support” and the guy tried to help me as much as he could but didn’t solve the problem. I am upset that I can’t download the movies to my son’s iPad, we have to sit in traffic for near two hrs and that was my only way to keep him entertained but not anymore. Please GOOGLE have an update soon and fix this issue. Sincerely, a desperate mom! 🙏🏻

    Only wanted to rent or buy co tent made available, and it required signing in on your phone through the app, typing in the code first. After typing in the code, it failed to work every time. Erasing. I now see why I left Google and their sad array of services.

    I find it a bit annoying I cannot rent or buy movies directly from my phone within the app. I have to open a browser on my phone to rent or purchase any content and then return to the app in order to watch it. My second issue may not be Google’s fault since they are in competition with Apple but wouldn’t it be great to have Google Movies and TV as an app for Apple TV? Please continue to improve the app and listen to reviews so you can improve your services. Thanks.

    Do not like that I cannot purchase movies from the app. Dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. Having to purchase online and then save the movie to your phone ( while you’re on WiFi , because you can’t stream the movie on your data ) is ridiculous. Come on Google! Step it up!

    So before I went on vacation, I downloaded a load of movies with my personal Gmail Account. During the vacation I added a couple of G Suite accounts; all of my movies are tied to my personal account yet Google Play decided to log me out of my personal account, log me into an account I haven’t used in years, and left me without any downloaded movies. I logged back into my personal account only to find that all my movies were removed, but in Settings, it showed that I had 17GB of data used for downloaded movies stuck within the Play Movies app. So disappointed, going to Movies Anywhere or back to Apple TV, Google must have used interns to test this app!

    Update: zero day bugs that are years old still present in the app. Worst example: the app basically freezes indefinitely (I usually just get fed up and force quit) when trying to browse the Library with the “Downloaded only” flag set. Original review: Search, Maps, Gmail/Calendar, YouTube, etc. are tier one: updated frequently, periodic new features, well-maintained. Voice, Wallet ("Pay Send"???) and Movies are in the second tier: poorly maintained, buggy, and feature set languishing at what's essentially a MVP. Thank you for three updates in a year, and finally releasing iPhone X support 7 months late. I've happily spent hundreds on Google Play content because of cross platform support, but to the PM of this product: PLEASE get your sht together, ask for more resources, and bring this app into line with the YouTube app's functionality and polish. Or just EOL this app and allow downloading and better browsing for my purchases in the YouTube app. Save me from the AppleTunes and Bezos Prime walled gardens.

    It takes way too long to get back into a show you’re currently watching. There’s no resume button and it makes you scroll the whole way down in addition to the 5 presses more than should be necessary. Also, the app crashes constantly, deleting all progress in the movie or episode and nothing is being done to address that. Save your time and go get Netflix or Hulu

    I like it for my son bc it’s the only platform that has Sarah & Duck. But it lags more often than not - error messages are common even on my smart tv. I also think it should auto play series shows; it’s lacking on that front.

    My advice don’t use on any Apple device you can watch your movies you’ve purchased on google play tv through YouTube instead I do all the time on my IPod can’t download the movies though that’s a biggest down side doing this way I wish they would fix that issue in the future but I don’t have any problems playing the videos though I always mine connected to the internet when it’s possible for movies but when I can’t I just listen to my audible app instead or use my amazon music to.
