I have had this app on many devices b4 and they were in fact samsung devices of course. But now I have finally splurged and got me the iPad Pro. And in the past nothing went wrong no interruption or anything in the sort. But now in the last week or so i have had pop up play back er. And it really bumbs me out because I have a lot of movies on this app that I watch and I cannot enjoy them on my ipad but only can enjoy them on my roku tv. Would like 2 say that the company needs 2 do some major updates 2 the app where Apple users can use this app with no problems. Thank u.

I've enjoyed this app for over 5 years ( Google Play Movies, now Google TV). They're always reliable and faithful in restoring purchases of movies, shows, etc., when I've had the need to reset my phone. Excellent back-up. I also really appreciate their protective feature of using one's fingerprint to confirm a purchase. Great movie selection, old and new. Google is reliable and that speaks well of a company. I have enjoyed many movies from this app. :-)

Google is on the right path here by consolidating and updating some of these old apps. I was hoping that they would merge some together so I have less clutter on my phone. I think it's kind of odd that the app symbol is different when you download it from what is shown in the store.

This app has been my go to for my digital libraries on iPad for the last few years, and I travel quite a lot. The offline feature is the biggest featurefor me. A lot of people one starring this app because they cant purchase movies throughit must not understand that is Apples rules - their quest for monopoly removes your choices as a consumer. Use your web browser to purchase and the movie is in the app immediately. Finally updated so the app fills the iPad Pro display!

Seems like it's intentionally making it harder to filter out shows and movies not in my subscriptions. Have to use the "for you" tab now instead of being able to just go to the movies or shows tab. There is also no option to hide YouTube from list of suggestions even if I uninstall YouTube on google tv they still show up.

DOES NOT WORK. When trying to download my purchased movies to any of my devices, I get "Could not fetch license (error -1)". Nothing will play, either. I have attempted to contact support, even through my Google One membership and am not getting any help. Google TV team doesn't even seem to understand what I'm saying. "Contact Developer" on this page gets a bounce back that the email is out of date.

  • Garbage UI Jan 3, 2020

    By Isthisnametakenyet74837483
I’m boggled by the user interface here. Upset that Friends was leaving Netflix, I bought the entire series for only $50 through Google Play. Great deal! However, the player is crap. First of all, it’s not separated by season. If I want to watch something later in the series, I have to scroll through allllll the episodes before it. It’s also not super obvious where you left off. The episode titles also do not fit on the tiles, not even close. So basically the only info you get is “Season 4 episode 2...The One...” (“The One” is how all the episode titles start). If you leave it on binge watching mode, the next episode starts before the current one is over (seriously! How is this an issue in this day and age?). If you turn binge watch mode off, then once an episode ends, it goes back to the menu with all the episodes, but not scrolled to the episode you just watched or anywhere near there. There is a “Last Watched” indicator on the last watched episode but you have to be right on top of the episode tile to see it. Lastly, there is no option to go back 10-15 seconds like with most other streaming services. Everything about this UI is so so so bad.

After what Google has done with the Google Play Music app. Discontinuing and forcing me to use a 1 star substitute ( You Tube Music ) to listen to the music that I have already purchased. Why wouldn't I think that Google might do the same thing to me with this app ? So I will not be making any more purchases on this app ! You got me once Google. You won't get me twice !!!

  • Can’t download the videos I’d purchased 😭 Jan 19, 2019

    By Jenifer Cordova
Everything was peaches until by mistake I deleted the movie I’d purchased. I tried to download it again and the second movie I’ve purchased from this app but I can’t download it. The main reason I got this app and made purchases was because of my 2 year old who loves “Finding Dory” so I bought the movie from Google Play. It worked sure fine when I bought back in middle of December. I’d recently purchased “The Lion King” and my son loves it. I tried to download it to his iPad and by mistake I deleted his “Finding Dory” movie so I thought it wasn’t going to be a big deal if I just download it again but IT IS NOT WORKING!!!! I have done everything... and when I mean everything, I did everything. Obviously got in touch with “Support” and the guy tried to help me as much as he could but didn’t solve the problem. I am upset that I can’t download the movies to my son’s iPad, we have to sit in traffic for near two hrs and that was my only way to keep him entertained but not anymore. Please GOOGLE have an update soon and fix this issue. Sincerely, a desperate mom! 🙏🏻

Terrible quality. Everything streams in like 480p. Still no option to watch HDR on mobile?? Amazon Prime does it but I hate their app UI. Overall great improvements, it's nice to see where I can find basically anything. I wish I could hide the rotten tomato scores though, I don't want to see how bad my favorite movies are. Maybe add an option to hide it on purchased titles?

  1. All your favorites, all the time! Google Play makes finding and watching movies & TV shows easier than ever
  2. That movie you loved not out on DVD yet? No problem! Buy or rent the newest flicks before they hit DVD or streaming
  3. Take it with you, or watch at home! View instantly on your Android phone or tablet, or on your TV using Chromecast

  • Best app on my phone so far Dec 15, 2020

    By Ben Ruppel
I saw a variety of bad reviews and almost didn’t download the app, I decided to chance it and voila I can watch my entire movie and show library. The best decision I’ve ever made was downloading this app as far as viewing things on my phone. If this was my only experience with google they’d be my favorite company, as things are I still heavily rely on them, and they are in the close second tier to me.

This app has given me nothing but hours of enjoyment and entertainment until about only in a while I would be watching a movie and midway through it would be playing the audio for the scene but showing the scene from a previous part of the film at the same time. Or it will just for no reason close the app itself, mind you no one else has access to my account except for me and I do not know if it is a glitch or someone hacking me.

Does the job, but it's really obvious that the video player gets less love than YouTube's. No way to quickly skip back or forward by 10/15 seconds and no fine scrubbing control means good luck trying to back up just enough to hear that one line you missed 5 seconds ago. There's also no custom volume indicator, so anytime you adjust the volume, the giant grey square default iOS overlay pops up and covers half the screen.

I don’t normally write these but this issue has happened a couple of times, across multiple devices, and with multiple movies so it’s become a bit of a pattern. It seems to work well for the first hour or so of a movie but more and more recently, around an hour and 15 or so I get a playback error. I closed the whole app and quit it, thinking that would help but it just started me at the beginning of the movie with no ability to skip to where I had been previously. If I try to skip ahead, it just buffers endlessly. If it does finally start playing, it will start playing the sound of where I wanted it to start but the pictures of a few minutes into the movie.

I live in a rural location & Internet speed is quite slow the main thing I like about this app is I can download videos & play them through TVs without buffering. There are a LOT of things I do not like about the app - the biggest annoyances are 1) you cannot buy movies through the app 2) the algorithm for "recommended by play" is either badly flawed or does not take into account my purchase history 3) it would really be nice if there was an "ignore list" so that videos that do not interest me would not keep being listed 4) there is not an age level block on the “recommended” list — needed if you want to hand an iPad to a young child I have seen several people indicating they have playback problems. As I mentioned my Internet access is quite slow but I have had good luck downloading movies to my iPad & watching them on a TV that has a Chromecast plugged into HDMI. This also works well when my wife & I visit with our children while their children watch a movie from my iPad on the TV.

  • I like to receive what I’ve paid for Apr 16, 2019

When I buy a movie that’s supposed to be 4K or at least better than regular HD, I’d expect to get what I pay for. Now I get to watch a somewhat HD version of Interstellar after purchasing the 4K version. Not to happy about that. I would think it wouldn’t matter that the devices I’ve tried watching them on are new (iPhone X and 2nd generation iPad Pro)! I guess I’ll just had to go back to punching video contact on iTunes. Thought google would treat me well, but I guess I was wrong. Gave 2 stars because my movie was a bit cheaper than other platforms... I guess I see why now.

I downloaded this app so I can watch movies on my IPad Pro. After seeing how great this looks I started to download all my movies for offline viewing. It took me three days and a lot of internet use but I finally downloaded all of them. After a few weeks and an update to my IPad all of my movies show they are not downloaded and now I have to repeat this process. Really?!! What sense does it make for me to go through that long process again and wonder if this will happen again. I’m not sure who is at fault, Apple because they hate that I won’t purchase their movies,or Google because they hate I’m watching it on the IPad. There is no guarantee this won’t happen again, and I don’t want to burn through unnecessary data. SOMEBODY PLEASE GET IT TOGETHER!!! UPDATE!!! There is no point downloading a movie. As soon as there is an iOS update Apple will remove those downloads and you will have to start all over.
