The worst app ever!!!! Sep 13, 2021

    By Tameka B Hopper
Worst I have ever used I did everything the app said to do I entered a valid card I went to the gas stations that it recommended I did everything you said and guess what at about 6 to 7 transactions I got about I think it was 16 or $0.26 credit the other ones they were unable to give me any credit still processing after 10 days you don't get anything... just a scam app or something don't waste your time folks.

Hyperbole or false advertising? Sep 4, 2021

    By On, Wisconsin!
Woman in advertising says she sometimes makes $200-$300 per month. If discounts are "up to 25 cents per gallon," that means she "sometimes" buys between 800 and 1,200 gallons per month. Let's say she has a real gas guzzler, getting only 10 miles per gallon. That means she "sometimes" drives 8,000 to 12,000 miles per month. Either that or she has a fleet of cars filling up with her app. There's hyperbole and then there's false advertising!

    1. East Coast shoppers earn cash back on food, groceries, and gas at over 800 locations, no coupons needed - just a linked credit or debit card
    2. Get up to 35% cash back every time you dine out, in addition to potential discounts on your bill
    3. Save up to 15% on groceries and $.25 per gallon on gas at over 500 participating gas stations, including Shell, Mobil, Sunoco, Exxon, BP, and more

This used to be an amazing app. I was saving so much money on gas and the process was flawless. However, they implemented the “check in” process whereby you skip taking a picture of your receipt and the cash back is supposed to be verified based on the credit card you have on file being used at the pump once you hit check in. Nope!!! It has never worked for me. EVERY single time I have to email the company because I don’t get the gas credit. This is also happening to my referrals. Which means I’m not getting my referral credits. This app needs to eliminate the “check in” process and go back to taking a picture of the receipt for verification. There was NEVER an issue with that method. I’m seriously considering deleting this app because I'm buying gas at stations which have higher prices, but will be lower with the credit, however if I’m not getting the credit then I’m better off getting my gas at stations with cheaper gas prices, no app needed!!!! Horrible customer service too! When I emailed them it took me a month of emailing back and forth to get the credit from just once transaction.

They charge you a whole dollar to cash out to PayPal unless you are cashing out $15 or more or getting a gift card. Then when you do cash out they give to a notification that states it will take 24-48 hours to transfer your money to PayPal. First of all I know it doesn’t cost them a dollar to cash out small amounts. They say they’re passing SOME of that cost on to us, so they would have us believe that it costs them more than a dollar to transfer funds. Second, if they’re going to charge a whole dollar to transfer to PayPal then they could at least do it quicker than 24-48 hours after you cash out. PayPal only takes 2% and they transfer immediately (30 minutes tops). Lastly, this app is full of bugs. The first time I claimed an offer the app told me I had 4 hours to upload a receipt from the gas station I selected. Once I got to the gas station and pumped my gas the app suddenly crashed and logged me out. I’ve had this app for months before I actually used it and it had never logged me out before. When I tried to log back in it told me my info was incorrect. So now I had to play the log in game. Once I finally got logged back on I uploaded my receipt and the app told me I should see what my cash back would be in 24-48 hours. Then it told me 3 different discount amounts that I would be getting. This app needs A LOT of work.

I really like the app right because who doesn't like free money. The only issues that I've been having with it is I can be at a gas station and it not pick up my location and the other issue I have with it is, where I live only two fast food restaurants are available to get cash back from. Fix those two issues and I'd easily rate it a five.

The app has been fantastic and I had given it 5 stars in the past but ever since the update a few months ago where the app allowed location check in via GPS at a station and no upload of receipt and they search for your card number in a transaction with that station it hasn’t worked in those instances and no money back is earned and have to weeks later submit the receipt to the support team. It still works flawlessly and quickly if you do it the old way of uploading a receipt. Only issue is when you check in at a station that does it that way you have to do it that way and no option to upload receipt is ever given. So for now I try to avoid stations that use the check in option but point is I shouldn’t have to avoid those and unfortunately those stations tend to be the higher cash back amounts. If the team fixes this issue or at least allow the user to choose the way they would like to do it (either check in or upload receipt) regardless if the station is a check in station, the app would be back to 5 stars. Otherwise stick with the non check in stations and you will be ok and the app will work good for you.

Awesome app! It really works, no bull. You get cash back on gas, food, and groceries (groceries isn’t available in my area - Houston) you just get on the app and it acts like a google maps, you find gas stations on the map that participate, mainly I’ve seen shells and Exxon’s. You click the location you want and depending on location it tells you how much money you get back, Some places 1cent per gallon, more are 6-12 cents per gallon, and I’ve even seen 50-60 cents per gallon back. You just claim, then you have four hours from that moment to pay with card, pump (full price), and then get a receipt and upload and you receive your money 24-48 hours later but I usually receive the next day. That money can be cashed out through PayPal, by check but I think you need at least $15 and they charge $1 fee or through many select gift cards. (Chili’s, iTunes, amc, you name it and they got it for the most part. They have like 20-30 different ones. It’s also cool because I have a company gas card so that means I don’t pay for gas and I fill up always the company truck and am making money off them lol

I agree with recent reviews. When you could upload receipts this app was awesome! Now that "check in" is mandatory the claim is always denied. • “Not a real receipt” issue Feb 9, 2020

    By JizzleBro
Been using this app for almost a year now. I can tell you that the cents really start to add up over time. Haven’t had any issues until a few months ago when every now and then I wouldn’t receive cash back because of the receipts I’ve submitted not being processed because they deemed it wasn’t a real recipient although all the receipts I’ve submitted were printed at the gas pump and would show the name and address of the gas station I claim, the time, proof of purchase with a debit card, amounts purchased, price per gallon and so on. I keep all of my gas receipts until cash back credit is given in case I have to resubmit it. Not all gas pumps print receipts in the same format but I shouldn’t have to lose out for something beyond my control. Yeahs it’s only a few cents but why participate if you can’t enjoy the perks advertised? I’ve even resubmitted receipts on numerous occasions just to keep getting denied for the same, “It’s not a real receipt” issue and where I live and travel, I don’t see the point of driving 10/15 miles out of my way just to use the “Check In” feature that a select number of gas station have. This should be a feature used all over to prevent this ongoing receipt issue.
  • It really works!!! Dec 10, 2019

I’ve been using this app for a little over a month now and I wish I would have found it sooner! You literally open the app, search for participating gas stations around you, claim an offer, pump gas, and then upload your receipt. Usually within a few hours after you’ll begin to earn cash back! The most I’ve personally seen offered is 19¢ per gallon cash back which is really nice! There are two negatives I have about the app though which is there have been several instances where the system misread my receipt and I received the wrong amount of cash back. Every time this happened however, I contacted the customer service team and I was issued the correct amount back hassle free! (I always attach my receipt when reaching out just to verify) Also that the only gas stations i seem to see having offers are BP and Circle K. It would definitely be nice to see more of a variety! Although in my area (OH) I’m not able to redeem offers on restaurants, groceries, etc I do recommend this app for anyone who enjoys getting a little cash back here and there! Patience is key!
  • This delivery driver gives it two thumbs up! Aug 2, 2019

    By KelseyColley
I’m a delivery driver, so you can imagine I go through quite a lot of gas, sometimes filling my tank from empty a couple times a week. With gas being so expensive, it’s awesome that I can earn a few bucks back here and there. Perfect for drivers who spend a lot on gas for high commutes and delivery drivers who don’t want to spend all their hard earned money on gas. I heard a commercial for this app on the radio one day while on a delivery and I downloaded and used it for every fill up after that. I ran into an issue where there was another gas station added on top of the gas station I was already frequently using and couldn’t figure out why it was rejecting my receipt, their customer service was top notch and they even gave me the money I had missed out on. I would love to continue to use their services but I’m moving to an area where the gas stations have not yet joined the GetUpside action, but when they do, I will be sure to use their services as loyalty as I have in the past.

Only worth it on first use. When I insalled it, all gas stations were offering 25 cents cash back per gallon. I was so excited! Got $5 back on my first fill up. Ever since then, all the stations are simply offering 1 measly cent per gallon. Gas prices have been stable, same price, not higher nor lower. The only way those people in the testimonials got $200 cash back in a month was by referring people to the app, since it has an affiliate program attached. Kinda shady. Can't recommend this.

The app is ok, but taking pictures of the receipts is a task and come to find out, the reps who check the images can't even read the receipts smh. It can be an extremely frustrating task, especially when you're not notified that the transaction is going to be denied permanently unless you repeatedly resubmit the receipts until the reps can find what they're claiming is not there. I'm assuming they're using some very outdated software and would be better off using a cellphone with zoom.
  • I REALLY wanted to like this app. Dec 17, 2019

    By cjustunrun
I commute 700 mile per week. So believe me when I say that I really wanted to like this app. I just tried my third attempt at using the app....1/3 attempts worked great but I have learned a little so I thought share a review.I gave it two stars because the concept and the ease-of-use for the app is really exceptional. The app is not too bulky and very straight forward. I love that you don’t have to give them all this personal info just to use the app. However, that’s pretty much where the benefit stops. With a little home work you can find out which gas stations will offer some savings. Not all the one listed will actually save you money. The problem is that so many of the gas stations that I see listed on this app are seriously depleted businesses. I’m not talking about cleanliness. I mean the pumps are broken, printers don’t work, gas is awful and causes your car to run rough... Today (for example) the only station that would offer me an actual savings only had 2 out of the 12 pumps that were operating. And they both had people parked at them while they stood inside talking and doing whatever. Not worth the $1.00 total savings to try to convince them to let me pump my gas. In the end.....they have plenty of credit cards that earn points that will convert into gift cards. Get one of those, be responsible with it, and get your gas wherever you feel like.

I've been using the app for about a month now. Each transaction takes 4-5 days or more to process. My latest transaction is going on day 5 now. I really don't know what else to say at this point other than expect a long wait on your transactions to process. Also one thing to note is that if you're a reward member at stations, you will not be able to stack. Meaning if you get 10 cents of for being a member at chevron, you won't get anything extra for using upside. They will adjust your rates.

My mom recommended this app to me, so I thought I’d download it and check it out. Unfortunately it does not work at all in the state I live in, not a big deal. I wanted to delete the account, because I had only downloaded it, never once used it. I have had to jump through a million hoops to gets this account deleted. There is a part that says delete account, it doesn’t delete the account it makes you send them an email. Ok no big deal until it turned into 4, emails I finally get reply. The reply now has me emailing them again, because they need it confirmed. One would think the 4 previous emails would have pretty much confirmed I indeed want this account deleted. I have never had to do all of this just to delete an account it’s ridiculous. ***You can’t make up the nonsense that I have had to go through to delete this account. It was finally deleted, I hope, I refuse to re-download it to see. After all of hoops I jumped through, they still keep emailing me!! I made very sure to make sure I would not receive any emails, I made sure to unsubscribe from them, yet they still keep showing up. Then they sent me a survey email, ok fair enough. However if this small start up trying to get off the ground, actually cared, or read emails, they would know all the answers with out still pestering me, even after I took the blasted survey. Seriously leave me alone please.

But after that, is a mess, they will wait more than 10 days then send me an email saying they didn't find the transaction in my card and that I will not receive a cash back. This is so frustrating and I still have 4 pending right now. Ughhh..I even referred people.

This company I thought was good until you go to places like where you have to upload a receipt for your cash back. All the ones that are like that when uploading the receipt in 1-4 days you’re to receive cash back. I’ve uploaded all the receipts right then. I normally throw the receipt away after it says successfully uploaded but days go by & it’s still processing for days I reached out to them several times about this issue because the last one I had I kept the receipt okay I contacted them through email informing them that I still have the receipt on hand if I need to upload again even tho it was uploaded already successfully. I still as of yet to get a response back from them but they clearer declined it saying it’s too many days when I’ve reached out to them several times before this was sent. I believe they get the ratings from themselves, friends, & family because this is such bull crap when it comes down to uploading a receipt & cs doesn’t get back to you at plus there’s no way you can contact them periodt sad bad customer service I’m so disappointed with the customer service side they have none I guess because you hit help it gives you FAQ why have away to message if you are going to have the FAQ continue to come up You can’t chat with no live person & it’s sad as sad can be

Aug 2, 2019

This app is amazing! It is awesome that something like this actually works and you redeem rewards from it. It is also nice because the more people that you add as to your referrals, you get a percentage back from them getting discounts at gas stations as well. This is a great app that everyone should at least try out for a little bit before they get sucked into it.

The app is easy way to save on gas. You can plan ahead or do it at pump and take receipt pic then or hours later. If you add it to credit card cash back reward or gas station loyalty plan u get a bigger win win. I have now received a total of 93.00 so far. I am now over 400.00. They made it easier. You do not have to take pictures of receipt now. They have problems with "denying" claims due to not "finding" electronic proof. But you still win long term.

I would recommend this app for one reason, It does work. Like any other app that deals with a actual money, your routine must be done precisely and does take effort. Make sure the picture is clear and as and must follow their procedure which can take some getting used to. Only problems I’ve had is when I switched to a new phone it took a little time to retrieve previous cash back to follow along but got it eventually. As well as sometimes things are not perfect as far being it does not always get verified from the gas station. But no app is perfect and especially when dealing with money. But being I use it I give this advice. Don’t go out of your way to get the gas by following most cash back. You have to use common sense and figure what really helps you pay the least. Also I highly recommend keeping all receipts until rewarded being you can’t go gas stations if you have an issue. I say this entirely from experience only. Follow these steps. Make sure you understand what saves most money. Keep receipts from both types of credibility. Be proactive with app support if you have an issue and make sure you follow all of app’s guidelines: Clear photo of that is how your doing. Make sure you don’t use cash because it doesn’t work as purchase. I don’t recall being advised this through app, but makes sense why wouldn’t work. Keep proof until rewarded. Use the correct type of gas you say you’re using and you can change this at all times. Be proactive if you have an issue.

I really like the app right because who doesn't like free money. The only issues that I've been having with it is I can be at a gas station and it not pick up my location and the other issue I have with it is, where I live only two fast food restaurants are available to get cash back from. Fix those two issues and I'd easily rate it a five.
  • Good app but chance to be great Dec 13, 2019

    By dealetdeale
  • Not so great Dec 5, 2020

Downloaded the app because my co-worker recommended since we drive the company vehicles. First time they give you an extra 15 cents so my cash back was 30 cents. After that it go back to the regular like from 1 cent to 15 cents, and the gas price at the gas stations are never the same as advertised on the app. No problems since we drive the company vehicles. Then the problem was they ask you to enter the first 6 and last 4 of your credit card on the app and then you don’t have to submit the receipt and when I checked in at the gas station it didn’t give me the option to scan in the receipt. So 10 days later ( the maximum time to process your claim) they emailed me said they can’t give me the cash back because they can’t find the transaction. After using this app for 6 months now. Wish the app would just let people upload their receipts instead because almost every gas station so far except for Marathon, would process 10 days and email you they can’t find the record. So you would have to email them the receipt. Make sure keep a record of your receipt.

I love this app. Two star downgrade because it doesn't work as fluidly as it should but it is still fantastic and helpful. 3 out of the 12 transactions I've made have not gone through and I notice the app struggles with reading the receipts or finding some of my purchases when I check in at a partnered facility. I hope that these bugs can be fixed soon, but other than that it's been a worth while experience.

Theoretically this is a great app but I’m disappointed in That the gas prices listed within the app while looking for a gas station is never the same when I get to the actual gas station. The prices at the actual gas station are higher, sometimes much, then what the app says. And when the cashback is only $.01-$.03 it doesn’t even make sense to go to that gas station because I can go to a different one and get gas for a cheaper price without the cash back. To me that defeats the purpose. I’m not trying to spend more on gas just to get a gift card with my “savings” when it’s actually not a savings if I can go across the street and get a better price without using the cash back. For instance today the gas price listed in the app was 2.41 with .04 cash back because of the July bump. So it would originally just be one cent. But when I arrived at the gas station, the gas was actually 2.60. So with the cash back it goes down to 2.56. The gas station next-door was 2.43. So I still would’ve been better off going to the gas station next-door. Also please ask van the list of gas stations included. A lot of times I have to go out of my way to get to a participating gas station.
  • Great when not dealing with customer service Aug 3, 2020

I would’ve gave this app a 5 star because initially its great! I drive regularly for my job and received an $89 gift card to Lowe’s after about 5-6 months of getting gas with the app. I decided to wait until after I tried getting another gift card if the app would actually pan out. I got flagged for using gift cards as a method of payment, which increases the number of cards on your account. So I had to deal with customer service.... One of the worst customer service technicians I have ever dealt with. I emailed to figure out a way to unlock my account so he sent me what I could do and provide his with the last card I used and where I used it. Upon receipt of my email, I received another with instruction to do the same with the last 3 cards I’ve used. Seems like they just wanted me to jump through hoops and will drag out the process to renew my account. Very unprofessional, Would’ve liked to know every thing I needed to do in the first email. There are other gas reward apps out there that I will try. Use my experience to learn. Try everything in your power not to deal with customer service and you should be fine.

There's been alot of bugs. Some purchases weren't counted and once only got .20 total back when it should have been .10 a gallon back which would have been over 2 dollars. Most of the stations are the most expensive in the area. If you use this app wisely, it is a good tool. I still recommend.
  • When it works!?! 2.5 Stars Aug 22, 2021

    By Zinom576
When it works it’s great and easy to use, but that’s only about 1 in 5 purchases (I’ve only been able to use it a gas stations so far). The rest of the times I get emails saying my cash back couldn’t be processed because they can’t find record of the transaction. I missed out on a handful of cash backs, before I learned to print and keep a receipt for each transaction so I can respond to the rejection email with a picture of the receipt. I get gas 2-3 times a week so it’s a bit of a hassle and waste of paper, but they will process the cash back once I send them a copy of the receipt (not sure why they don’t just let you upload it from the start to save time)…but even then it’s done outside the app history so it’s hard to tell if they really do it or when and it’s usually after you’ve already waited about 3 weeks. I’d like to give this more stars because the cash back is great but there is too much extra work done on my part just to make each transaction process when the app has the ability to make it easy if it worked properly (or their data transfers from the gas stations were accurate).

I will continue to use the app a little longer. Receiving anywhere from 1 to $0.03 off of gas prices. You have to determine whether it's worth the drive to that gas station. If it's a couple miles from your location that amount off of a fillup it's really not worth it. On the other hand these places offer membership cards with more off of gas then upside.
  • Oct 19, 2021

    By Dustin Winters
Wild Goose Chase. So many times the gas station either doesnt exist, the location is wrong, or the price is innacurate. Otherwise, the deal is about the same as the gas station chain's membership discount price. Clearly, GetUpside is just some annoying 3rd party outsider glomming on to these companies. The business model doesn't make much intuitive sense, and theres a reason for that. I cant see them being around for too much longer. I expect any day they just call it quits...
  • Be careful they switch offers after you claimed one Oct 5, 2021

    By scootsmcgoots238
Update: still reaching out to customer service and will update what I hear back. My hunch is now that the one offer is gone off the site completely and it was taken off between when I claimed and submitted receipts so my offer defaulted to a nearby place. Just a guess. I had been doing well and getting cash back for gas and restaurant purchases. However, I went to get a restaurant purchase cash back and claimed the offer at spot A. I submit receipts for the same spot, A. The next day they say I went to the wrong spot and now my history has a restaurant listed that I have never heard of or claimed. They switched the restaurant in my history. Trust me I searched for the spot I wanted and selected it and submitted receipts all for spot A with no question. When I requested help, they reference a gas station and give me 3 cents back but this was a restaurant deal for 7 dollars back. They did not read my request. Previously I received 0.67 back for a restaurant that was supposed to be 21% with a max of 7 dollars. You really need to watch them to be sure it is correct. I think lots of people don’t pay attention and get ripped off. It also seems like a bait and switch that may need to be investigated. Good luck.
  • Not Applying Correctly Dec 29, 2020

    By lordhavemercu
This app has several issues. I’ll claim an offer for 17 cents for example and then once it’s done processing a few days later it says the cash back wasn’t the same as the day I got gas. So if it was 17 cents that day, when it finally processes it only gives me 2 or 3 cents back instead of what it originally said and there is no way to file a dispute. ALSO, I work through doordash which is why I even downloaded this at all bc they gave us a promo that should give us an extra 20 cents off on top of whatever the app already gives off and it’s not applying. I got gas yesterday for 17 cents off, 7.74 gallons of gas. With the promo that’s 37 cents off so I should’ve gotten $2.86 back but it didn’t apply the promo and I only got back the 17 cents for $1.32. There is no customer service just a bot that can’t answer these kinds of questions. I use this app EVERY time I get gas and it’s honestly not worth it if it’s not going to give me my correct cash back. $1 here and there isn’t worth it. I signed up BECAUSE of the doordash promo and it’s not even applying. Until they fix these bugs, I wouldn’t recommend this app. You have to go out of your way to get the discounts and they don’t even correctly discount so it’s not worth the effort.

I deleted my 5 star review today after using this app for 2 years and cashing out twice it stopped giving me the option to cash out through check or gift card it gave me the option for PayPal , I used that option in the past but now it doesn't complete the transaction and I have sent several messages to the company and have had no response whatsoever. It's a shame because I referred many people and thought highly of this app until now.

  • Oct 20, 2021

Only worth it on first use. When I insalled it, all gas stations were offering 25 cents cash back per gallon. I was so excited! Got $5 back on my first fill up. Ever since then, all the stations are simply offering 1 measly cent per gallon. Gas prices have been stable, same price, not higher nor lower. The only way those people in the testimonials got $200 cash back in a month was by referring people to the app, since it has an affiliate program attached. Kinda shady. Can't recommend this.

So this is app is pretty good, if only Valero gas stations would work, checking in and using the right card and it still says that no purchase was found and even uploading a receipt to so that you did make a purchase doesn't seem to have any effect of resolving this issue. They offer some of the highest rewards for gas and I have only ever had the first one Valero Gas station work correctly. It's a frustrating to see all the rewards lost and missing due to this.

Will not let me add 2nd card. Will not let me claim by scanning receipt. Worked 1st time I used it but now it won't. Edit: Managed to add 2nd card. Still 1 star b/c it almost never works. Transactions will say "processing" for about a week then change to "missing proof of purchase". Huge waste of time and money b/c you usually have to go out of your way to find a station using app.

I downloaded this app because I'm all about rebates and saving money. I use receipt hog, & ibotta. It's been 8 days &I still do not see any refunds. One of my transactions says no receipts. I have the paper receipt in front of me. When I try to contact them through the app. It tells me fail to send. As of right now, this app is a waste of my time. It shouldn't take over 8 days to get your refund. I'll give it one more week then I'll delete the app and let people know it's a waste of time
