It's ok. It used to send notifications when my kid was in or out of safe zones. Now I have to go into the app every few minutes just to see if my kid is in or out of safe zones. Also, it takes a good while to locate. Other than that I like my kid not having a phone, yet she can still call her parents in emergencies.

The app isn't formatted to my phone (nexus 6p) in map view I can't change to satellite view or search location. Other than that the app works. I wish there was a sound notification if safe zones were left and entered.
  • Much Improved Jul 10, 2014

This is the first update to the Filip watch's app. They also updated the firmware on the watch. The ability to silence the watch from the app is a welcome addition. They also improved the accuracy of the notifications. The ability to decrease the radius of a "safe zone" was also added, as well as an increase in the amount of characters you are allowed to text (from 16 to 24). My son loves his Filip watch. It has given me peace of mind to let my son explore a little more on his own. My one complaint would be that you still can not zoom in on the map as much as I would like. It uses Google Maps, but it does not provide the level if zoom you see with the regular Google Maps. Overall, I find the app easy to use and a nice companion to the watch.

My son loves his watch. He's learned it's his responsibility to plug it in every night. And when he's away from home, he feels secure in knowing he can call me any time he needs to. To the other reviewers complaining that it's horrible, I suppose they don't remember a time when phones were required to be connected to the wall at all times, or when mobile phones first came out and could only be used a few hours at a time before needing a charge. At least I realise this can only get better from here! There have already been major improvements since we got the watch in Jan, and I appreciate all the work going into this!Keep up the great work!

They claim that it triangulates with GPS, WiFi and Cell Towers, but indoors the location of your kid will be impossible since it says that his location is like 4 blocks away from the real location, now I'm not able to turn off my watches from the App, cannot track the watches or even refresh their location manually. Both watches reboot on their own and my kids cannot contact me when they arrive to school. They just passed the ball to ATT and just hope they are able to fix my current problem. They still need a lot of work to do before this watch is a success. Family Advisors seems to blame the Customer, because they think we don't know how to operate a piece of technology, anyways, Good Luck

  • Safe zone mapping needs WORK Jan 31, 2015

    By LiLiBug73
Bought two of these and received a couple of weeks ago, mid-Jan 2015. A) Kids say the watch buttons are easy to use but the watch itself can be uncomfortable to wear. We wanted the 2nd generation watch on account of the extenders making the watchband able to close (so losing watch is harder). But 1) it requires incredible dexterity for little fingers to work the extender to close or release - makes getting the watch off/on independently for children impossible, a tantrum-in-the-making AND 2) only one size extender comes with the watch - if your child needs a larger size, you have to spend another $20 on an extender bundle. It should have been included with the watch automatically - why penalize parents of children with larger wrists? B) The safe zone mapping needs to be sorely improved: 1) parents need to be able to make the safe zone area smaller than the radius currently allows, and 2) be able to drag and adjust a safe zone area on the map with their finger and not have to use a physical address for location determination - these are terrible limitations. C) At the present, the GPS is sketchy at best. The app doesn't always correctly reflect the location of the watch. In fact, if each of your two children have one, sometimes the app will swap the kids locations! And it's not because they're wearing the wrong watch - they each have a different color watch, so we know they are wearing the correct one.

DON'T BUY Filip. Doesn't work. The GPS doesn't work. The customer service even worst. They use to have a phone number, now they only have an email and took 2 or 3 day to give you an answer, and the answer is to reinstall the app.

Where to begin, horrible battery life, Half of the time it doesn't even last through a full day of school. GPS inaccurate half the time, hey give me a GPS location eight blocks away from my daughter school. Also GPS alerts can be hours behind when you ask for an update. My daughter could be home and it won't update her location for 2-3 hours and then other times it alerts me that she's home as soon as she's in the driveway. Trying to call, can't understand anything major echoing and constantly cutting out. Also the text messaging can be hours behind, message my daughter at 6:45 in the morning and she receive the message at 9 o'clock while she was in school. The band is extremely small, if you have a child that is on a higher growth scale it will not fit them. Finally the app keeps closing on my phone and every time I try to reopen it it tells me invalid password, I reset the password enter a new one and it still tells me invalid password half of the time. This was a great idea, I feel all Families should be able to access a simple inexpensive way of communication that restricts a child's use to family only but this needs a lot of improvements. For $100 and a $10 a month fee it is useless.

  • Watch is great but the app is too hard to load. Feb 10, 2014

I bought a filip watch for my son yesterday. It's a great piece of tech but there are a couple things that could be better. 1: The geofence could be a little smaller. 500 feet is good but 200 would be better. There is too many houses and streets with in a 500 ft radius. 2: The watch could use one more button. An actual on/off button. If you go to turn it on you have to hold the button down for three seconds. If you go one second beyond that it goes into emergency dial mode. Or you could make the toggle button the on/off button? 3: as for the app. I have been trying to set up an account on my wife's iphone 5 but it keeps giving me an error message 504. Saying that there is missing information. I've tried to set it up 8 times now with the same result. It took me 3 times to set it up onto my phone. I was also getting the same error message. You get to the terms of service screen and hit agree and get the error message.

I just turned in the filip 1 for the new filip 2. My son loves this thing! He gets so excited when he gets calls and messages. It has taught him responsibility to always charge it at night. I have not had any glitches. The only down side would be the gps only updates every 15 min and the battery isn't very good...but he learned to plug it in every night if he wants to wear it. :) It can only get better and better as phones usually do every phase. Oh and the support people are so amAzingly NICE!!!!

I just recently bought this for my nine year old daughter. She loves it and I love it. She thinks she's Kim Possible whenever she wears it. I feel comfortable when she's got it on. Not so much for the tracking but that she can call me at any moment. Plus she call me if something happens when she's home with her grandmother if there is an emergency. I'm happy with it. Just wish they had an apple watch app.

  • Glad I bought one... Jul 14, 2014

I'd read some older reviews of the product and decided to try it anyway. Glad I did! Looks like the mute function was added and better location detection. The only bug I've found so far is with the weight under child information. I put in 52 lbs and the email/SMS export from the app translates that to 257lbs, which my almost six year old definitely does not weigh...

  • It's ok, needs improvements Aug 24, 2015

    By B Murph 916
After purchasing two of these, I quickly realized a couple key improvements that these watches lack. 1) while looking at the map, if you have more then one watch, both your kids icons will appear one right over the other. So you can only assume they are together(ie. School, home, etc). Would be nice if the icons were smaller so you can see both the kids at once. Even if they were color coded dots. Don't need a large picture of them as an icon. 2) there is no volume adjustment on the watches. They are a bit hard for the kids to hear the caller.

    1. Battery is not good on these watches, if you have it set to check location every 15 to 30 minutes, it will eat up your battery dramatically and it will last you like 3 hours before it says it needs to be charged again. 2. I have both of my kids watches set to check for location every 45 minutes, and it lasts a good 6 to 7 hours, but the problem is that when my kids leave a safe zone you will not get a message until 45 minutes to an hour after they left the safe zone, I recommend trying to incorporate a notification when kids leave a safe zone right away even when you have it set to 15, 30 or 45 minutes, this will be very useful and make it even a better product. 3. I have see many bad reviews and the cause is that we complain and nothing gets fixed, maybe this product will not make it to the top if nothing gets done to help their customers. 4. GPS location is not accurate, when they are either at school or home, it shows that they are like 4 blocks away from where they are, so what is the purpose of having GPS, Cell Tower and WiFi triangulation if it is not going to work? 5. I will give it a few more months and if nothing gets fixed, I will move on and cancel my service with AT&T and try the next available company that provides better service to keep my kids safe.
