  • Much Improved Jul 10, 2014

This is the first update to the Filip watch's app. They also updated the firmware on the watch. The ability to silence the watch from the app is a welcome addition. They also improved the accuracy of the notifications. The ability to decrease the radius of a "safe zone" was also added, as well as an increase in the amount of characters you are allowed to text (from 16 to 24). My son loves his Filip watch. It has given me peace of mind to let my son explore a little more on his own. My one complaint would be that you still can not zoom in on the map as much as I would like. It uses Google Maps, but it does not provide the level if zoom you see with the regular Google Maps. Overall, I find the app easy to use and a nice companion to the watch.

My son loves his watch. He's learned it's his responsibility to plug it in every night. And when he's away from home, he feels secure in knowing he can call me any time he needs to. To the other reviewers complaining that it's horrible, I suppose they don't remember a time when phones were required to be connected to the wall at all times, or when mobile phones first came out and could only be used a few hours at a time before needing a charge. At least I realise this can only get better from here! There have already been major improvements since we got the watch in Jan, and I appreciate all the work going into this!Keep up the great work!

They claim that it triangulates with GPS, WiFi and Cell Towers, but indoors the location of your kid will be impossible since it says that his location is like 4 blocks away from the real location, now I'm not able to turn off my watches from the App, cannot track the watches or even refresh their location manually. Both watches reboot on their own and my kids cannot contact me when they arrive to school. They just passed the ball to ATT and just hope they are able to fix my current problem. They still need a lot of work to do before this watch is a success. Family Advisors seems to blame the Customer, because they think we don't know how to operate a piece of technology, anyways, Good Luck

I just turned in the filip 1 for the new filip 2. My son loves this thing! He gets so excited when he gets calls and messages. It has taught him responsibility to always charge it at night. I have not had any glitches. The only down side would be the gps only updates every 15 min and the battery isn't very good...but he learned to plug it in every night if he wants to wear it. :) It can only get better and better as phones usually do every phase. Oh and the support people are so amAzingly NICE!!!!

I just recently bought this for my nine year old daughter. She loves it and I love it. She thinks she's Kim Possible whenever she wears it. I feel comfortable when she's got it on. Not so much for the tracking but that she can call me at any moment. Plus she call me if something happens when she's home with her grandmother if there is an emergency. I'm happy with it. Just wish they had an apple watch app.

I'd read some older reviews of the product and decided to try it anyway. Glad I did! Looks like the mute function was added and better location detection. The only bug I've found so far is with the weight under child information. I put in 52 lbs and the email/SMS export from the app translates that to 257lbs, which my almost six year old definitely does not weigh...

Where to begin, horrible battery life, Half of the time it doesn't even last through a full day of school. GPS inaccurate half the time, hey give me a GPS location eight blocks away from my daughter school. Also GPS alerts can be hours behind when you ask for an update. My daughter could be home and it won't update her location for 2-3 hours and then other times it alerts me that she's home as soon as she's in the driveway. Trying to call, can't understand anything major echoing and constantly cutting out. Also the text messaging can be hours behind, message my daughter at 6:45 in the morning and she receive the message at 9 o'clock while she was in school. The band is extremely small, if you have a child that is on a higher growth scale it will not fit them. Finally the app keeps closing on my phone and every time I try to reopen it it tells me invalid password, I reset the password enter a new one and it still tells me invalid password half of the time. This was a great idea, I feel all Families should be able to access a simple inexpensive way of communication that restricts a child's use to family only but this needs a lot of improvements. For $100 and a $10 a month fee it is useless.
  • Watch is great but the app is too hard to load. Feb 10, 2014

I bought a filip watch for my son yesterday. It's a great piece of tech but there are a couple things that could be better. 1: The geofence could be a little smaller. 500 feet is good but 200 would be better. There is too many houses and streets with in a 500 ft radius. 2: The watch could use one more button. An actual on/off button. If you go to turn it on you have to hold the button down for three seconds. If you go one second beyond that it goes into emergency dial mode. Or you could make the toggle button the on/off button? 3: as for the app. I have been trying to set up an account on my wife's iphone 5 but it keeps giving me an error message 504. Saying that there is missing information. I've tried to set it up 8 times now with the same result. It took me 3 times to set it up onto my phone. I was also getting the same error message. You get to the terms of service screen and hit agree and get the error message.

    1. Battery is not good on these watches, if you have it set to check location every 15 to 30 minutes, it will eat up your battery dramatically and it will last you like 3 hours before it says it needs to be charged again. 2. I have both of my kids watches set to check for location every 45 minutes, and it lasts a good 6 to 7 hours, but the problem is that when my kids leave a safe zone you will not get a message until 45 minutes to an hour after they left the safe zone, I recommend trying to incorporate a notification when kids leave a safe zone right away even when you have it set to 15, 30 or 45 minutes, this will be very useful and make it even a better product. 3. I have see many bad reviews and the cause is that we complain and nothing gets fixed, maybe this product will not make it to the top if nothing gets done to help their customers. 4. GPS location is not accurate, when they are either at school or home, it shows that they are like 4 blocks away from where they are, so what is the purpose of having GPS, Cell Tower and WiFi triangulation if it is not going to work? 5. I will give it a few more months and if nothing gets fixed, I will move on and cancel my service with AT&T and try the next available company that provides better service to keep my kids safe.

Good concept, horrible device and app. I'm shocked AT&T would allow such an unreliable device and associated app to pawn onto customers as an "easy to use and reliable GPS locator and communication device for your child" when it is neither. After two calls to AT&T I finally got the device itself activated, but the app would not sync to the device after multiple attempts and the final straw was when the device showed "no service" yet again which will force me to call AT&T a third time...only this time I'm telling them to remove the number and fiLIP service from my account as I will be returning the device for a refund. I refuse to pay $150 for a device and $10 a month to use it when so many people here like myself have reported faulty devices, a constantly crashing app, issues syncing, etc. Honestly, I wouldn't even use it if both the device and service were 100% free...I should have read the reviews here before I bought this worthless piece of crap. There is a reason it has such a low rating. What makes me even more angry is that this item is even available to the public considering the main reason why people buy it. Whatever you do, DON'T trust or rely on this item to protect your precious cargo...I fear it won't perform as it should if needed.

This thing is the biggest disappointment ever! And now you can't even write a message anymore if you have iOS 8, the message bar is hidden behind the suggested words bar! So you don't see what you type. Very poorly implemented into an expensive piece of junk that is so unreliable that you'd just want to throw it in the trash if it hadn't been so costly. 💰💰💰 It showed green for fully charged and now 30 minutes after my son left the watch is DEAD! Also it permanently does that, like every other time. Poor enough that it has to be charged daily! Also charging is a pain until it finally does so. If it's not dead then it often shows places where my child can't be at the time when he's in bed or school. I wouldn't recommend this watch and I certainly wouldn't buy it again. Big regret. 👎👎👎
  • It's ok, needs improvements Aug 24, 2015

After purchasing two of these, I quickly realized a couple key improvements that these watches lack. 1) while looking at the map, if you have more then one watch, both your kids icons will appear one right over the other. So you can only assume they are together(ie. School, home, etc). Would be nice if the icons were smaller so you can see both the kids at once. Even if they were color coded dots. Don't need a large picture of them as an icon. 2) there is no volume adjustment on the watches. They are a bit hard for the kids to hear the caller.
  • Terrible Product with worst customer service Mar 25, 2015

    By tommy339
I bought one in August 2014, never worked right then died after a month. Complained to customer service, they tried to sell me a repair kit for $50 which neither they nor att had. Then they told me if I was patient I would be get the updated version. After signing up for the updated version, surprise! nothing happened. I had to call them yet again Which they informed that now I needed to pay $39 and send in my original device. Which I did. Needless to say they messes that up also. They sent me back a wristband with no watch! The watch has worked a total of 1 month out of the 8 I have owned it. TOTAL JUNK
  • Useless Nov 5, 2014

    By New Haven Mammoth
Purchased two devices for our 8 & 10yo. One device worked well until 5 days later when the antenna inside the wristband snapped while removing it from my son's wrist. The 2nd device, a lemon from day 1, was exchanged for a new device. This second device was missing the two screws that connect the antenna/ band to the actual hardware. It took 3 hours (not all at once) to get Filip to agree to send two new screws. Every Week I called to check on the screws And received the same story that they should arrive any day and that they were changing distribution sites which was delaying all shipments. 3.5 weeks and two wasted monthly service fees later the screws arrived! Now, do they work? No. One doesn't send notifications at all and the other sends them quite randomly, and not in any useful manner. I have to laugh each time customer support asks if I plan to upgrade to Filip 2! Burning dollar bills for heat would be less of a waste of my money than these overrated under- tested pieces of techno-junk!

A nice concept that made me get this for my son. However, I found the GPS unreliable. Also the battery needed to be charged more than twice a day with in calling and 30 minutes interval location beacon. Although I love the concept, however they have some way to go before this becomes "reliable" IMHO. Had to return the watch and am now paying $35 restocking fee as well as $36 activation fees besides the rental and insurance, all for a mere 10 day ownership. I might purchase this watch again when the technology gets a little better. The App however was fairly easy to set-up and use.
  • App Needs Development Aug 28, 2016

    By Left Out to Dry
The watch works fine, but if all set-up, maintenance, and control is going to occur in the app, the app needs to be better developed. We started with a defective unit. Now that I have a new one, I can't get the watch set-up because I can't delete the watch profile that is in the app currently to set it up again. Deleting and reinstalling the app doesn't help because the profile is under my parent profile established with my email address. This capability and more robust development of the online technical support would significantly improve the experience.

The idea of the phone is great. It even worked yesterday, our first day having it. The problem is the app. Somehow in the night it decided we all lived in Canada and it's taken me all day to figure out why we keep getting errors when we try using it to call our contacts. Then once I figured that out and tried to change it the app crashes over and over while clicking "save". It also deleted all of our contact photos inside the app. So, the phone is great only if the app works and so far it's having a lot of problems.
  • Maps have no details Nov 10, 2014

    By Too Reveu For You
I had the previous version for less than a day, and while it was clunky, the map worked well. On this version the option to show satellite imagery is gone, and I can't zoom in as far. There is so little detail in the map, and the icon showing my child is so huge, I can tell she's somewhere in the neighborhood, but can't tell what house she's at, which defeats the purpose of the map feature.

Big regret. 👎👎👎

TOTAL JUNK
