Great app use it everyday
Love the variety of sports and games that subscribers can view live, daily for cheap. They let you watch select replays for a while after the live game too. My issues are two: no customization whatsoever. I have written to espn with no response. I will keep lowering my rating ever few weeks until they respond. The issue is they have far too many sports for any one person to have interest. I want to be able to block out the ones that continually dominate the screen so that I can better see and select only the sports I care about. Allow users to either select sports we like and dislike on a more advanced preferences screen (with the aim to block sports we dislike) or at least create a thumbs down option for contests we dont care about. Second issue is espn+ doesnt have enough viewing rights to top ranked teams. I have yet to see an ncaam gonzaga game available with only the espn+ subscription. I fear they wont have any critical games and i will miss march madness because i refuse to pay 100 a month for an outmoded cable subscription. Get with it espn and app developers. Its not hard. You already dominate the sports market, just make some simple changes and figure out what viewers really want. Thank you. -
Delay of game.... 5 yd penalty on ESPN+....
I would say once you actually get the ESPN+ app installed it works pretty well on Roku and is easy to navigate with the remote......the big problem is it literally takes a PhD and engineering degree to get the app installed on a non QLED TV which many do not have esp if you’ve purchased a tv prior to 2017.....ESPN also failed to offer a heads up on this so if you have an older tv be prepared for a long set up process.....after about 8 hours and a trip to the store to purchase said Roku device we hunkered down to watch Connor v cowboy....sad to say 40 secs was a huge letdown but it looks like the UFC lineup In coming months looks promising....One other note....the sound was on a 10-15 sec delay which was annoying and unacceptable...I’m wondering if anyone else had this issue....I did appreciate the discounted price for the fight so overall some good and some bad points...work on that streaming being in sync and we’ll be back with another review after the next fight....GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
This app declined as the years (I've had it for 6yrs) went by. The widget doesn't work. Period. It's a waste of space to have since it never updates. The app itself is glitchy, even with the + subscription. Also, shouldn't the ads be removed if you are a ESPN+ subscriber? Anything, it seems as though they just stopped caring about providing a great functioning app, like they did when this was first launched, people going to download it any way because it's "ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports."

I like the app. The only thing I would request is that you let the viewer chose the quality of the video like YouTube. The video feed for me always automatically chooses the best quality but then buffers a few seconds later. I would gladly give a 5 star rating if that feature was available.

Used to be a great app , but now it won't stream half the time. It will just load forever. Please fix and i will 5 stars. Update: After latest update while im watching ufc fights it keeps stopping and buffering even on wifi. Sometimes the video will just completely stop and give error message. How do you destroy a app that used to work perfect?

UFC Content...
Update: Yay!!! Y’all fixed it, Tysm Devs, if you’re going to change how the content is displayed you should put that in the update notes, not just say that you’ve added an In-App ppv feature & nothing else but bug squashing... I can’t find any of the Greatest (KO’s, Submissions, Rivalries, etc...) videos (if they’re even on there anymore) w/how y’all have changed the landscape, there is no longer a “See All” tappable button to the right of the group heading so you can browse content, you just have to scroll from the right & read each individual title that way until it eventually ends & it seams like they’re not even in there...& as for the group headings that can be scrolled all there is now is Upcoming, Related & On-Demand, but again, no tappable “See All” button to browse anything else that was just there a few weeks ago.? -
Always Comprehensive & Looking to Improve
My previous review mentioned that Chromecast support seemed broken, and I tried just about everything I could to troubleshoot the issue (lots of "Not Authorized" errors, despite everything working fine on-device). Since then, I hadn't tried it again, but it appears to be working fine now. That being said, ESPN didn't need to redesign their app, but they did and it's always an attempt to make finding content more user-friendly. I like the changes, and while I may not have ESPN+ all the time, it's nice to see what I could be getting (certain times of year it will come in handy). I've tried other sports apps, and outside of MLB At Bat, ESPN's alerts give the most information. -
Truly the best sports app
News is great. Being able to fellow all my favorite teams in one app is the greatest. Game cast tracks the game well on time. It may take 48 hours to watch the last game my team may have played but that’s fine either way. On the Apple Watch I’ll say it’s great to have just my teams and GameTime & even there next game. Not having to scroll through other teams is a time saver. I do wish team standings was on there that’s what I like about the mlb app. So if you want a all in one sports app definitely this is your your only choice. Those with buffering problems all I do is make sure my WiFi is good. Since I do no problems. Also I wish it would give game details in the watch like how the mlb & nhl apps do. -
Came for the UFC
Tuned in last night for all the early prelims and all main card fights on the UFC Fight Night: Cejudo vs Dillashaw, experienced absolutely no issues with the streaming. I had watched early prelims on both my phone and laptop, and switched to my television using chrome cast, so in my experience the streams were handled well on multiple platforms. This adds up to 4.5 hours of stream time which means it was able to run for a good amount of time as well. The membership is affordable as well at only $5/month. I have heard from other people they had issues with their streams so your experience may vary, but since I had experienced no problems I give the app and the membership 5 stars

I love ESPN but...4 sarcastic stars
ESPN the network and the app are great. The app is everything I could ever ask for. The only problem I have is how Steven A Smith has a job there. First because of his remarks against women and then his flip flopping of opinions. He legitimately has no idea what’s going on but runs his mouth then apologizes later that he got it wrong. If this is all it takes to be a ESPN analyst and make 10 million a year then sign me up. I can say .ex:“ the Celtics are out of this series( cause Gianiss had a good game and tied the series.) and there is no coming back. If that’s all it takes is to pick a side then another and offer no insight then really my 6 yo could put Steven A out of s job. Congratulations ESPN on throwing money at a horrible analyst and sexist.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 sarcastic stars -
Unwanted alerts
This is everything I want in my sports app. I honestly love it. There is one exception. I don’t know if it’s from app updates or what exactly, but the app continually turns on “Breaking News” alerts. I go to the app settings and turn them off, then sure enough a day or two later they’re turned back on. I take my alerts and notifications on my phone seriously and and very deliberate about what I’ll allow to grab my attention. I like getting updates on my teams, but I absolutely do not want breaking news from espn. Most of it is completely irrelevant to me. It’s causing me to consider turning off notifications from the app altogether and going elsewhere for the updates I want. Please, please stop turning on breaking news alerts!

Slow and disappointing
So far, this app has been great, but there are a few things that make me rate less than a 5 or 4. I primarily use this app for baseball, as football season hasn't started. I just installed this app it to see if it was better that other baseball viewing apps I own. So far, the interface is great and well designed, but the app is SLOW! It takes a long time to start up, and it has a hard time with simple actions in general such as clicking on the details or score of a game. So far, I have had no problem with the live TV viewing aspect of it, but it should be noted that I haven't used it much as I am at home with my TV. The main thing that annoys me the most is that when I click on a player up at bat in the app, it brings me to a glitched version of the app’s website. You are unable to scroll, and have to use a drop down menu to continue on to the stats. Then when you finally get the stats, there is barely anything! In other apps, I can click on the player an instantly get an in-app page of TONS of stats, just like it should be! ESPN, fix this please! -
It's a decent app. I understand the updates can't be on a real-time basis but still, there can't be a 20-30 second gap between them, not when it comes to something as fast-paced as a sport, can there? Nevertheless it's a fun experience when you're on the go and streaming isn't an option, let's you multitask and stuff. One thing that is frustrating, it has the feature of listening live but the action button sits dead and does not respond on clicking. Hope it's fixed, seems like a great feature!

Doesn’t really support personalization
I’ve been using it for many years but it refuses to care about my interests, which through my interactions should be very obvious. They always push their own preferred content to the top. For example, I understand there is a PGA championship going on but I NEVER, ever once clicked on a golf story, but that’s what they’re pushing to the top these days. I’m the kind of fan that follow teams, not individual players, but this app is constantly showing a section to recommend I follow individuals, and the “Recommended for You” choices are a million miles away from anything I show interest in - nobody from the teams or sports I follow, rather just the players in pop culture or who have big contracts. Well, what about the teams I do follow, can I just get a quick glance at what they’re doing? Not really, I have to navigate around and scroll until I can finally find the content I really care about. There’s no attempt to really learn my preferences and show what I want. There isn’t even an option to pay for personalized content or to remove ads. This ESPN app really appears to be about promoting content, advertisements and agendas and we sports fans just have to deal with it. Having said this, once you get to the content you want, there really isn’t a better sports app out there - again that’s why I deal with all the other baggage that comes with it. Oh, and it can be pretty laggy with scores and updates. -
Content is great...if you can see it
The amount of choice you have in regards to content makes it a great app. However, I find the video player to be less than desirable...making this an average ho-hum sports app. I try to use the app while I’m at the gym-particularly when doing cardio. I log on to the live version of “PTI” and 30-40% of the time I get error messages. Last night was a “re-authentication error”. So I went to settings and signed out of my cable provider and signed back in. Then I received another type of error...so I rebooted my iPhone X to see if that fixed the problem. It didn’t. So I quit the app and listened to music instead. This happens more than it should from a company owned by Disney. These guys know their tech...but can’t seem to get their player right. So, would I recommend this app? Yes, with the understanding and appreciation that you might not be able to see the content you want.
