There's nothing more exciting than watching a match live, in person. Since this is not always possible, enjoying a direct stream on your portable device is a pretty good second best. You can choose between live shows and 1000s of older videos, along with interviews and professional analysis.

This is a great app. I am, however, disappointed in a few key things. 1. I had my favorite teams selected in “favorites,” and one day I opened the app only to find that there was no “favorites” setting visible, and that my favorite teams scores notifications were turned off even though I never turned them off. 2. I’ve said this in previous reviews, and I’ll say it again; I really really wish you’d put AHL hockey in here. The AHL is a minor league, but it’s got a strong enough following, and I absolutely love it, and I’d love to be able to more easily access the scores/news/stats for it here as opposed to having to go to the AHL website every time. 3. NCAA hockey, both men’s and women’s, are listed as sports on here, but whenever I check I never see them updated or covered as much as the games are happening. For example, I’m a Penn State fan, and I never see the scores for my school. Hockey is big, as is college hockey, so this is disappointing and surprising to me. Thank you for your time, and I sincerely hope that my suggestions will be taken into consideration.

Love the variety of sports and games that subscribers can view live, daily for cheap. They let you watch select replays for a while after the live game too. My issues are two: no customization whatsoever. I have written to espn with no response. I will keep lowering my rating ever few weeks until they respond. The issue is they have far too many sports for any one person to have interest. I want to be able to block out the ones that continually dominate the screen so that I can better see and select only the sports I care about. Allow users to either select sports we like and dislike on a more advanced preferences screen (with the aim to block sports we dislike) or at least create a thumbs down option for contests we dont care about. Second issue is espn+ doesnt have enough viewing rights to top ranked teams. I have yet to see an ncaam gonzaga game available with only the espn+ subscription. I fear they wont have any critical games and i will miss march madness because i refuse to pay 100 a month for an outmoded cable subscription. Get with it espn and app developers. Its not hard. You already dominate the sports market, just make some simple changes and figure out what viewers really want. Thank you.

So far, this app has been great, but there are a few things that make me rate less than a 5 or 4. I primarily use this app for baseball, as football season hasn't started. I just installed this app it to see if it was better that other baseball viewing apps I own. So far, the interface is great and well designed, but the app is SLOW! It takes a long time to start up, and it has a hard time with simple actions in general such as clicking on the details or score of a game. So far, I have had no problem with the live TV viewing aspect of it, but it should be noted that I haven't used it much as I am at home with my TV. The main thing that annoys me the most is that when I click on a player up at bat in the app, it brings me to a glitched version of the app’s website. You are unable to scroll, and have to use a drop down menu to continue on to the stats. Then when you finally get the stats, there is barely anything! In other apps, I can click on the player an instantly get an in-app page of TONS of stats, just like it should be! ESPN, fix this please!

Good sports app. ESPN+ is nice. But way too many notifications especially over stupid stuff. I just got one saying MJ caught a dolphin. I even have my app set to limit notifications. It would be nice to have a feature to set importance on notifications you want to see. For example I really don't care for basketball so don't send me those. I really like football so news on that is nice. But from what I'm seeing you can't do that. Breaking news comes in from all sports which kinda blows
  • Doesn’t really support personalization Aug 9, 2020

    By madmick2002
I’ve been using it for many years but it refuses to care about my interests, which through my interactions should be very obvious. They always push their own preferred content to the top. For example, I understand there is a PGA championship going on but I NEVER, ever once clicked on a golf story, but that’s what they’re pushing to the top these days. I’m the kind of fan that follow teams, not individual players, but this app is constantly showing a section to recommend I follow individuals, and the “Recommended for You” choices are a million miles away from anything I show interest in - nobody from the teams or sports I follow, rather just the players in pop culture or who have big contracts. Well, what about the teams I do follow, can I just get a quick glance at what they’re doing? Not really, I have to navigate around and scroll until I can finally find the content I really care about. There’s no attempt to really learn my preferences and show what I want. There isn’t even an option to pay for personalized content or to remove ads. This ESPN app really appears to be about promoting content, advertisements and agendas and we sports fans just have to deal with it. Having said this, once you get to the content you want, there really isn’t a better sports app out there - again that’s why I deal with all the other baggage that comes with it. Oh, and it can be pretty laggy with scores and updates.
  • UFC Streaming iPhone issues Jan 20, 2019

    By Gunit00000
This is one of the worse apps I have ever had. The buffer times are ridiculous and half of the time You can’t even watch what you want to because it won’t load off of the app on the iPhone and it’s not because of a slow connection or Wi-Fi issue because everything else works you would think that the top leader in sports would have an application that works. This was during the UFC espn+ main card 2nd fight on the main card and happened during the prelims as well. My app and iPhone are both up to date. I tried it on my droid and my computer and it did the same thing, buffer for 10sec then just go back to the page or freeze the app. I hope you address this issue. Dana White this only happened during the UFC fights all other streams worked. I was optimistic about UFC going over to ESPN for this reason.

I’ve never had a problem using this app which has been a very welcome surprise. Almost every other app I have used has had multiple problems. Other sport apps are so often frustrating to use. Especiallly when I am counting on watching an important game but find I have been thrown off their app for no reason once again and now unable to get signed back in without a lot of effort and time. Can’t count the number of times I’ve missed games due to this problem on other sport apps! That has NEVER happened with ESPN!!!! And the app is so easy to use to use! I also love the pushes you send! So much information and so fast. Whoever you had designing this app should be designing the apps for everyone else!!!!
  • Unwanted notifications Mar 31, 2021

    By Chelseafcforlife
App does fine however I get notifications for things I don't want. It's March madness. For me, not interested. But do I know how all the games went? Of course! ESPN let me know - whether I wanted to or not. I have tailored the notifications in the settings 20 times - I only want to be notified about my teams / sports. I have breaking news turned off, I have instant awesome off, I have gambling off, I have ESPN+ editors pick off and product updates and offers off. Yet, somehow, I get notifications for things I don't care about. Why is it this way? I like knowing when 1 of the 4 teams I follow play or there's news about those teams, but i don't want anything else. But apparently it's not my choice? I may seek alternatives to this app that don't send me notifications deemed important to the app and not the user. I could turn notifications off entirely but that's not the point. I want what I want and nothing else and that isn't happening.

Great app that will serve you ads lickety split, but a 60 second video never loads (waited 5 minutes). I'm on Verizon, on/off wifi, Galaxy S20, 7 months old. The UX team responsible for this app needs to go back to design school. It's literally the most backwards and frustrating app to use to watch videos, and it's exactly what's wrong with the streaming industry today. All these hoops and cash and it STILL doesn't work?! It's a pirate's life for me, I guess. Screw paying for broken content.

The app gives notifications but when I try to click on them it's like the app and the notifications are not connected. It takes a very long time to open the article or if it's a video it won't open at all. Then I have to go into the app and try to find the video that was in the notification. It's very annoying and has been an issue for a very long time! Ok update, downgraded to one star and I no longer get my info from espn. If you haven't yet, switch to The Athletic. So much more professional.

Week after week the results of the Formula One race is given to me via a notification from this app, even though I have notifications turned off. This app ruins my Sunday week after week because I enjoy watching the race recorded. Please fix this. I have already written a review about this two weeks ago, but it seems to have disappeared. I genuinely enjoy reading the free articles on this app, emphasis on free, but I am considering removing the app because of its notification problems. FIX IT.
  • This WAS my favorite app Jan 10, 2021

    By Jimi-Thang
Up until a couple of months ago I used this app daily on my iPhone. I loved being able to watch my favorite shows live or on replay at the office. I also enjoyed being able to watch live sporting events when traveling for work. Then one day I couldn’t watch anything on my iPhone anymore. Either I get an error message saying “something went wrong, please try again later” or just a spinning wheel that goes for awhile before timing out. The app for my Roku still works fine but by I have very little free time on weekdays it’s almost pointless. The whole reason I got the app was so I could catch Get Up and a few other shows away from home, so I could “watch from anywhere” like their commercials always say. I had hoped that their recent update would fix the problem but no such luck. Oh, and one last thing, I’ve tried chatting with support twice. The first time nobody ever contacted me like they said they would and the second time they asked a few questions and then just stopped, never to be heard from again. I tried all of the things they asked (power cycling my iPhone, uninstalling the app and then downloading it again, etc. Nothing worked and I am beyond disgusted at this point. I still watch ESPN at home and still love the shows I like, it’s just too bad I don’t get to watch nearly as often as I used too.... It used to be a 5 star rating, now not so much.

For users in the Caribbean I cant go more than 2 minutes watching a stream before it says "The maximum number of concurrent streams has been reached on your account." This is infuriating because I am only streaming on one laptop and I have logged out any other instances on my phone. I restarted my router, laptop, cleared history, used a different browser and still no fix. I dont understand why its so hard for me to stream.
  • Wish i had more hands. At least 4 thumbs down Jun 14, 2021

If you love ads and miss regular cable commercials this is the app for you. ESPN is the world wide leader in sports no question so i find myself using the app out of habit but not by choice. I would delete but i pay ESPN+ for soccer matches. Most apps start free, then they up sell you by telling you hey pay and we get rid of or minimize ads. Not ESPN. You got ads, commercials, and content trying to run at the same time causing the app to, in simple terms, not work. Sad to say but i think the only thing that really works flawlessly in this app is the running of the ads however they can only seem to figure out how to run THE SAME ad over and over again. At least cable tv switches up the commercials and u might run into something you might actually want. Espn runs the same ad before anything and everything you click there is no escaping it. I’d go as far as to say the ads work better than most of the videos they post of the actual content you are looking for. Tap in for a highlight you will get a flawlessly run ad followed by a barely functional video of the content you want. And if u miss that video and try to replay guess what, ANOTHER AD, the same ad, the same exact one u just watched. Insanity. I doubt anyone at ESPN cares they are suffering from success at the highest level. However when a formidable opponent comes along they will be in big trouble.

Scumbag-developed app is literally un- useable. Streams are dropping left and right. Plays for 5 minutes then stops. There's no seeking buttons drawn by the app! You can't fast forward in the app!! How insane?! I must use the Google home device for seeking!! It took me many attempt to login also. I don't understand how these people do quality control. Sometimes the Chromecast playback shows different title of video than what's Playing. How do they have so many bugs!?

This subscription is very misleading about live sports. You can only watch anything live if you have a tv provider which goes against the reason for the subscription, being able to get away from tv providers and having freedom to watch want you want. I truly regret wasting my $55 on an annual subscription because of this. Dont waste your money if this the reason you were interested in the service.
  • Poor App, difficult to connect/watch Jan 4, 2020

    By Shahryar1983
I honestly have difficulty deciding which is worse, the ESPN app or the website, as far as being able to view live games. Typically, I have to log in and out 5-10 times and independently log in to my cable provider 5-10 times each time I want to stream live games or replays. It’s quite amazing how many times you can be told that your cable subscription does not cover the live stream only to find out, on the 10th attempt, that it does. Considering it’s listed as one of the supported cable subscriptions, I’m guessing the 10th time is accurate. I have considered the possibility that it’s related to my cable provider, but since I experience the same issues with my ESPN+ subscription without going through my cable provider, I’m guessing it’s not. Of note, ESPN+ won’t be renewed. I remember watching ESPN when I was young and have continued to do so as I approach middle age, but the difficulty in accessing programming with more modern technology is quite frustrating and makes me want to find another avenue to watch my football, baseball, etc. Disney, if you’re reading this, you could really help improve the quality by fixing some of these issues before a mass exodus of subscribers who watch on mobile devices or their computers.

So much information and so fast. Whoever you had designing this app should be designing the apps for everyone else!!!!

Less than a week after updating with most recent update, the ‘Scores’ tab no longer worked. It simply never opened. I reinstalled the app a couple of times and then just ignored it. After a while of dealing with it, I reached out to ESPN support and they said that there wasn’t anything they could do and I needed to reach out to Apple, which is basically a waste of Apple’s time. How could it be Apple’s fault that ESPN’s app no longer works properly when it worked perfectly fine prior to the robust newest update? I’m a huge fan of ESPN and their variety of networks and viewing options, but I just want an app that will work. (I would have given the app 5 stars prior to most recent update).

I have continually had problems watching any live stream on this app, including MNF and CFB. The freezing up of the picture is more frequent than normal, doesn’t work more than it does! Just to make sure it’s not my connection I had my WiFi signal checked by my provider, AT&T. Also I have watched several games on the NFL, Fox sports, NBC sports, and CBS sports apps and had no problem, no picture freezings. So I can only conclude that the problem is with the ESPN app. One more personal gripe, the creation of ESPN + is just another way to rip off the sports fan. Being able to watch my favorite college team, Appalachian State, on ESPN 3 was great. Now most of their games are on ESPN +, charging $5.00 a month. Feeling manipulated and cheated, Jerry S. N.C.

My previous review mentioned that Chromecast support seemed broken, and I tried just about everything I could to troubleshoot the issue (lots of "Not Authorized" errors, despite everything working fine on-device). Since then, I hadn't tried it again, but it appears to be working fine now. That being said, ESPN didn't need to redesign their app, but they did and it's always an attempt to make finding content more user-friendly. I like the changes, and while I may not have ESPN+ all the time, it's nice to see what I could be getting (certain times of year it will come in handy). I've tried other sports apps, and outside of MLB At Bat, ESPN's alerts give the most information.
  • Truly the best sports app Dec 16, 2019

News is great. Being able to fellow all my favorite teams in one app is the greatest. Game cast tracks the game well on time. It may take 48 hours to watch the last game my team may have played but that’s fine either way. On the Apple Watch I’ll say it’s great to have just my teams and GameTime & even there next game. Not having to scroll through other teams is a time saver. I do wish team standings was on there that’s what I like about the mlb app. So if you want a all in one sports app definitely this is your your only choice. Those with buffering problems all I do is make sure my WiFi is good. Since I do no problems. Also I wish it would give game details in the watch like how the mlb & nhl apps do.

Thank you.

ESPN the network and the app are great. The app is everything I could ever ask for. The only problem I have is how Steven A Smith has a job there. First because of his remarks against women and then his flip flopping of opinions. He legitimately has no idea what’s going on but runs his mouth then apologizes later that he got it wrong. If this is all it takes to be a ESPN analyst and make 10 million a year then sign me up. I can say .ex:“ the Celtics are out of this series( cause Gianiss had a good game and tied the series.) and there is no coming back. If that’s all it takes is to pick a side then another and offer no insight then really my 6 yo could put Steven A out of s job. Congratulations ESPN on throwing money at a horrible analyst and sexist.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 sarcastic stars

This is one of my most used apps. I wish that when I get a notification and click on it to open that notification that it will actually play that particular thread smoother. Other than that I love it. Update: the app has gotten slow...really slow. And glitchy. It takes almost a minute sometimes longer for it to open from a notification. Watching a game is null and void now unless I want to watch it in Spanish lol 🤦🏾‍♂️. Every time it says that I can’t watch it and to call my service provider. I call AT&T and they said that everything checks out on their end. Please fix this?? Baseball season is already here and football season will be coming next and I’d like to be able to watch the games like I used to be able to.
  • Slow and disappointing Aug 8, 2018

  • Unwanted notifications Mar 31, 2021

  • App isn’t designed for streaming Feb 24, 2021

    By somecomputer
I recently got ESPN+ mostly to get access to the 30 for 30 collection. I’m happy to be able to watch all of the old and new docs but in terms of streaming content the app leaves MUCH to be desired. There’s no way to pick up a program where you left off or even see what you’ve been watching. I understand that the majority of viewers watch ESPN exclusively for (live) sports but it’s frustrating that I have to spend 5-10 minutes browsing just to find the 30 for 30 library before I can even find the doc I want to watch. The only alternative is to search for the name but that only works once I’ve started and/or know the name of the exact one I want to watch. I’d love the ability to save favorite programs or even better add things to a watch list. If ESPN wants to compete in the streaming space especially for non-live content, I think a major overhaul of the app is in order.
  • Content is great...if you can see it Aug 19, 2020

    By Hentv
The amount of choice you have in regards to content makes it a great app. However, I find the video player to be less than desirable...making this an average ho-hum sports app. I try to use the app while I’m at the gym-particularly when doing cardio. I log on to the live version of “PTI” and 30-40% of the time I get error messages. Last night was a “re-authentication error”. So I went to settings and signed out of my cable provider and signed back in. Then I received another type of error...so I rebooted my iPhone X to see if that fixed the problem. It didn’t. So I quit the app and listened to music instead. This happens more than it should from a company owned by Disney. These guys know their tech...but can’t seem to get their player right. So, would I recommend this app? Yes, with the understanding and appreciation that you might not be able to see the content you want.
  • Annoying ads, video at top Dec 2, 2017

    By DP
My primary usage of this app is for checking scores, getting a quick glance at schedules and stats, and occasional browsing of sports news articles. It is OK. The older version of this app was better. The “new” version has so many ads, including the annoying ones that magically encompass the entire screen when you’re about to tap on scores or an article and therefore force you to mistakenly link to some ad site, that it makes scrolling cumbersome. Also, who wants to see some random video at the top of the screen when logging in that has no context that you mistakenly tap because it is constantly at the top of the page (e.g., scores of the game the highlight is from, or a 30 second clip of an interview that has no additional context)? I don’t!!! It seems like the app intentionally leads you to mistakenly tap ad-related material.
  • Good not great Oct 7, 2019

Great place to get scores and info no doubt. It’s just truly ridiculous that you have to watch ads for every single video on ESPN. The worst part is having auto play on videos. You watch an ad watch a video, no problem, watch the same ad immediately and then the actual video buffers. Keep in my mind the ad is longer than the video you are trying to watch. Boom the same ad, another video buffers and the cycle continues. What’s the point of even clicking videos if you’re going to have to watch the same ad essentially on repeat as the actual video buffers, and plays in terrible quality like give me a break. I can deal with one ad, I can deal with poor quality of video. I can’t deal with the same ad before every video while the video buffers then plays in terrible quality, while the ad is basically 4K.

Got ESPN online content free for years with my Spectrum subscription, but was willing to pay when change was made. Initiating the app can take as long as a minute (the dreaded red spinning circle) and it is often buggy...I regularly have to sign in/out multiple times to get it going. Navigation can be frustrating...there is so much content (which is a good thing) that finding what I want to watch takes too much time. Like others have said, I wish there was an option to eliminate or hide whole categories of sports/events that I will never watch. Still, there are no alternatives for watching my favorite college basketball (and some football) or "minor" sports such as baseball and women's basketball. ESPN owns the market and I overlook the app problems because I appreciate getting viewing opportunities that would not be available otherwise.

I’ve been using the ESPN app for around 10 years now. When it comes to stats and information this app is top notch. For many years this app was a 5 star app, but recently it has become almost unbearable. 30 second ads to watch any video. Even though a lot of videos are just clips that can last less than 15 seconds. How is the advertisement double the length of the video? Not just that, ESPN has now made it that once an ad starts after a video, you can not close the ad. You are forced to watch the ad or close the app. All you need to do is cut back on the ad length and not require an ad before every video, maybe make a time system like ad every 5 minutes or something, but it needs to cut back. Also, don’t force the users to watch ads, let us close the ad and not watch the next video.
  • Apps needs to be cleaner Apr 29, 2018

    By anathalab
Two things. I like the app. It gives me updates I need with news and with games. However I wish ESPN+ was its own app (I purchased the subscription because of MLS, EFL) and having ESPN plus as its own (similarly to NBC Sports Gold helps eliminate non subscription content. This leads me into my thing; this is app is very messy to use. There’s no way to filter the content you want so you’re not seeing content you don’t want (I am only interested in soccer and don’t want to switch the UK version in the app because you can’t watch the games). In addition to a messy home screen, attempting to find the sports you’re interested in and their game is difficult and when you do find it those games aren’t listed (even thought that’s what ESPN+ advertise). I like the app, I truly do but I wish it was much cleaner than it is. Hopefully changes come soon.

I honestly have no idea how a company with as much money as this has such an awful app. It’s slow, bordering on unresponsive sometimes. My phone is flaming hot after a few minutes of use on the app, although that could just be my phone and not the app. I get a lot of alerts on from ESPN, but when I click on them, it’s about a 50/50 shot of whether or not I get to see what I clicked. Ads freeze all the time, keeping me from getting to a video I click on. Videos also typically start at about 4 pixels on the screen and get marginally better as the video goes on, no matter if I’m connected to my very good WiFi or my cellular data. The amount of content is also a little subpar. When you look at an app like Bleacher Report that produces an insane amount of well-done and free content on an app that actually works, the paywall of ESPN+ is just silly. Streaming from the app is also nearly impossible for me. But the website is just as bad. The content that I actually get to see is usually pretty good stuff, making it a two star rating instead of a one star. Considering the money ESPN and Disney have, they should be embarrassed about the quality of their app and their website.

I read the top review that is two years old and it echos my feelings for the most part. The app is slow, unreliable, and the interface doesn’t seem like it’s changed since I first downloaded it to my phone 8 years ago. I love when I get a notification that I actually have some interest in and tapping it to be take to the app to stare at a black screen for eternity because it NEVER loads. Then when you reopen the app to try and find the article it’s like it never existed. Good luck trying to find any specific article or video you’re looking for. You only get to see what ESPN wants you to see. I don’t watch UFC or MMA so why do they keep sending me notifications for it? The best part is when you watch a video and the 45 second ad plays perfectly then the actual video doesn’t load and you have to reload the app and watch the ad again. Then the video ends and it goes straight into another ad before you can rewind it to watch the 5 second highlight again. Soooo bad and they don’t have to improve because there is no real competition. Super sad they are complacent

I recently subscribed because of the Disney bundle and there are a lot of things I really am liking about ESPN +. I love all the old programming like all the archived Indy 500 races and Mohamed Ali fights. I also really like all the ESPN original programming like Payton’s places and being able to access all of the 30 for 30 episodes. That for me is probably one of the best things about the subscription. My frustration comes because a lot of those shows are long and I don’t watch them in one sitting You would think that there would be a ‘continue watching’ feature like every other paid, streaming subscription but there isn’t. I contacted ESPN and was told to just “remember where you were.” That seems so silly and unnecessary. Please ESPN, add a ‘continue watching’ feature and I will be a 5 star happy customer. As it is right now I have to scroll back through programming, find the show I was watching, click on it, and try to remember where I was and start fast forwarding which is a huge pain if your like me and watch different shows depending on the mood you are in.

ESPN, I have been all ESPN ever since I was old enough to care about sports. The writing and reporting is phenomenal, and I love to be the one in my family to break the biggest sports news. The app is great with notifications on your favorite teams and leagues as well as breaking sports news. The radio streaming and podcasts are great especially my favorites (Lebatard Show, Golic and Wingo, and 30 for 30). I will continue to use this app for all of those reasons. I do however wish you guys had full game highlights online, but I digress. The only bad thing I have to say is how god awful the streaming is. Tried to watch the ECF between cavs and Celtics and it lagged throughout the entire game when casting it to my chrome cast. It did the same just trying to watch on my phone and I have gigabit internet. I don’t know why that has always been an issue for ESPN. It has sucked since the first release of WatchESPN. PLEASE FIX THIS!!!! I’m begging you because the wife kicks me out of our tv room when I’m trying to watch the games! Thank you ESPN, and keep up the good work!
  • Great Streaming / Content; Horrible UI and customization May 26, 2019

    By <Bayani>
If there’s an event to watch or immediate sports news, the ESPN app is the place to watch and stay up to date. If you don’t want to know everything about the most popular sports and the sports that espn is most actively advertising, this is not the app for you. Especially if you’re paying for ESPN plus - not worth it. They do a great job from a business perspective of holding content captive but, once you’re forced to get a membership in order to watch a UFC PPV, and you think “oh cool, I’ll get some awesome content” - think again. With the lack of customization, it’s utterly disappointing. You get a lot of content but, if you’re a fight fan, the amount of content available is abysmal. Beyond that, it’s a nightmare to search for the content you want or to see specific news and updates unless that happens to coincide with whatever espn is pushing. It’s seemingly impossible to customize your feed and, even tho you pick favorites, there doesn’t seem to be an easily accessible favorites feed. I’m pretty disappointed.
  • ESPN+ Is a Mess May 1, 2018

If you are using this app to get scores and updates, it’s good. However, I use it for ESPN+ and watch ESPN FC on a daily basis. I must say, the organization of both the phone and Apple TV app is awful. Trying to view the latest episode is so hard, especially on Apple TV. First, there is no feature to subscribe to a show. You just have to browse around to find it. Second, once you get to the episode listings they are not listed chronologically from newest to oldest and are not titled the same way each time. Sometimes they have the date in the title, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes the newest episode is at the top, sometimes it’s in the middle, and other times it’s literally all the way at the bottom. Additionally, if you watch the broadcast live and then pause it, the stream goes all the way back in time to the pre-roll stuff and you can’t go back to live or where you left off! The service seems half baked right now and I’m not sure I’m going to continue to subscribe at this point and time. It’s a shame they relegated ESPN FC to this service.
  • Confusing Battery Killer May 18, 2019

    By andrewaltogether
The user interface doesn’t make any logical sense. Content is just kind of randomly scattered everywhere. It’s not clear where to go to watch a game and there’s no central schedule. You can see an individual team’s schedule, the most popular games in a specific league or cup (but not always in chronological order), or the big games in a sport (neither in order nor a complete list). And the order seems to change while you’re using the app! But the worst part is the battery draining while streaming. I wanted to watch a soccer game and started with 50% battery, so I plugged my phone in. By half time—with my phone plugged in and charging—the battery level had *dropped* to 18%! So I put it on low power mode, dropped the screen brightness, closed some background apps, turned off cellular and Bluetooth to use Wi-Fi only, and let it recharge during the fifteen minute break. I was able to watch the end of the match, but the battery had *continued to drain* and was at literally 3% when the final whistle blew. How is that even possible?
  • Out of control - runaway notifications Feb 24, 2019

    By jfrizzz
I understand ESPN’s desire to draw more people into their content, but the app has simply gone too far. The notifications are reaching the point of unwanted spam. It’s one thing for me to want alerts for NBA News like trades or injuries, but by turning on alerts for league news, ESPN will send you an alert for every big game starting, every halftime take, every LeBron highlight, and every post-game press conference. It’s just too much. I am happy that ESPN is pumping out alerts to keep users informed, but the app should offer an opportunity to control what is being delivered. Divide the types of notifications up: highlights, big game alerts, opinion pieces, press conferences. These are regular items that are distinct from league news like a major free agent signing or a coach firing. This is applicable to every league that ESPN serves notifications for. Users get excellent control over game score alerts (start, quarter, half, final, close game), but absolutely no control over the endless alerts that ESPN lumps into “news”.
  • Bad for the eyes Aug 9, 2018

    By Jetlag John
This app has all the sports info I want. It’s the place to go to find out what my teams did last night — or even how they’re doing now. I have three big issues with ESPN. 1) Too much in grey. For example, in box scores HR is in legible black, but the slugger’s name and data are in weak grey. My eyes are not that great and eye tests are a challenge, but ESPN doesn’t have to be so difficult to read. If two-tone is necessary display headings like HR in grey and data in black. 2) Navigation is slow and difficult. In progress game scores open to the last score displayed & it takes forever to update. So I try to speed things along by touching scores or sports or home, which of course doesn’t help but slows down everything. 3) the Yankees and the Mets are my favorites so their games are listed first. I’m also interested in the Red Sox but I’ll never call them a favorite, so their scores are hidden offscreen way down below. Give me a way to see all AL East and all NL East games in groupings. Summary: lots on info, hard on the eyes, poor navigation.

I go to open notifications of video clips that sound interesting and it NEVER brings me there. It’ll bring me to some three week old article and I just get frustrated trying to navigate this app trying to find the video it told me about. Watching games is hit or miss. 50% chance you’ll get through more than 10 minutes without the app crashing, playing nonstop ads, or the video cutting out. Not my internet. All other sports streaming apps work fine. Fix it. Plus, as much as I love getting to the second news I’m most cases, IT WILL TELL ME THE FINAL SCORE OF A GAME IM WATCHING ON LIVE TV TWO MINUTES BEFORE ITS OVER. LIVE TV. LIVE. I’ve had countless heart-throbbing experiences ruined by prematurely learning the outcome of the game before the broadcast is even finished. A bit of begging and choosing to say that the scores updates are TOO fast but it’s something that other people have had to have noticed. However, if you are ONLY going to use it to check scores/get updates it’ll be fine.
