I have been using the DVO app for over 7 years since I’ve been back in NYC. I’ve used the app on many occasions to share with friends and strangers. I’ve found that on some days and weeks, the message speaks directly to me. However, lately there has been a change and it has felt less prophetic and biblical and more a bit systematic. As a user for over 7 years, I’m aware that it could just be me. But from reading the other reviews, I’ve been thinking maybe not. I encourage the writers to continue to write because you are helping many people around the world. If possible, dig deeper. Don’t worry about being controversial and being more like Jesus when it comes to your beliefs. Truth is... I’ve been in church since I was born. I’ve been a christian since I was 9 years old. Now I am 40, gay and black. I don’t quite “belong” in any church because of my sexual orientation and color. But that has and will never stop me from belonging to Jesus. That’s why I’ve continued to subscribe to this app, because it’s rich in Jesus. So, be encouraged and go as deep as JESUS goes into your writings. Blessings on Blessings!

Paying for anything “church” is at first strange. but God created life and if it is because of Him that all life and jobs exist and that we should be able to connect with him through it all then shouldn’t we be paying for any jobs? Or anything? If this were a memoir from a president or your favorite celebrity you wouldn’t question payment at all. It’s a tough topic but sometimes people actually work hard in what they do and they find themselves working hard within the church and some positions deserve compensation. These one stars seem kind of “casting-the-first-stone”-ish haha. So, yes. As many as the reviews have said, the devotional content seemed to have changed from something really beautiful to something unrelatable to all but I definitely feel that they have seen the comments and that they are back on track now and I now can start recommending this back to people. 1 Star for user friendliness 1 Stars for meaningful devotions 1 Star for the apps beauty 1 Star that it actually works 1 Star for reasonable pricing

DVO came to me at the right time, the writer has insight and knowledge that is so refreshing. I absolutely love getting a more in depth and different perspective on the same verses I've heard my whole life. And just a side note for the comments on having to pay. I get it to a degree but this is the writer's full time job, if she was behind a pulpit she'd be making an income through a church. And if it was in book form you'd be buying it from a store, which is the old fashioned way of getting devotionals ;) A years worth or devotionals for the price of one book is not bad at all!

I’ve never written a review for any app until today. I have been consistently using DVO for the last four years and I absolutely love it! I love the images, verses, motivational sayings and everything it does behind the scenes. It does so much more than what people realize! One of my favorite features is the Daily Reminder so you never miss a dvo. Check it out. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Thank You DVO! Keep up the great work! ❤️

I first came across DVO after going through a particularly bad breakup and I needed something to help restore my faith in pretty much everything. I appreciate the personal nature of DVO, I didn’t grow up going to church but having the author talk about her personal struggles as well as scripture adds a human connection that I can empathize with. I always feel like there’s something I can apply directly to my daily life and I’ve made DVO a part of my morning routine.

I'm so glad I chose to pay for these devotionals. I bought the one-year subscription and now everyday I get to see what these writers and artists have worked so hard to put together. I love it. Powerful writing, just the right length and inspires thought provoking prayer and meditation. Definitely support this app!

Well I was surprised that the app itself was free, the first day was lackluster and all it did was give a scripture reference then talked ALL about the application and people who made it (husband and wife team) and all it offers a that was day one of the daily devotional... the NEXT DAY, today... I get up early to do what I hope is better than yesterday (because I came up with my own reading for yesterday)... and was met with a freakin pay screen. Are you KIDDING me?!! First of all I downloaded this because I was desperately seeking some direction with my weekday devotions and feeling like God was really distant. Then to be met with this. Such a disappointment and let down. Tell people up front what they are getting. And trust me, your little first into devotional was NOT good enough to make me want to pay for further reading assignments. How disappointing.
  • I wanted to like this app Apr 21, 2018

I’m still on the hunt for a good daily devotional app. This one has great reviews but I literally couldn’t get through the Day 2 devotional as it felt completely full of shallow fluff and nothing of substance. I don’t need to read 6 paragraphs about how Jesus is the essence of the dirt, the flowers, the mountains, a newborn baby’s breath, and I just need to take life step by step, day by day, and enjoy life. This is literally like marshmallows- overly sweet, unnecessary, and not sustaining. I want to ingest something nutritious that feeds my soul- food for thought. Something that grows my understanding and spirituality. Also, why is “he” (as in God), never capitalized?? And what is the New Passion Translation that literally makes less sense than NIV? Guess my search for a good app continues...

Over the past month, the app has opened 1 in 10 times. I’ve deleted and re-loaded the app at least once a day. Tried the “App Support” icon in the App Store listing and was sent to the developers website. Tried logging in and apparently had forgotten my password. Asked to reset the password and never received the email that I was told would be sent. Very questionable support for an app I pay for and get to use every tenth time I open it. I have cancelled my subscription.

Unfortunately, the writer of this app has changed and that is abundantly clear. The devotions are hard to follow and read as unfocused and meandering. This app was the devotion standard on iOS back when it first began. I have paid for an annual subscription, but now I just go back to my archived devotionals from 2014 and 2015. No refunds, of course. I am extremely disappointed.

So I have subscribed for years, but recently this app makes me sign in every day. How annoying is that?!? The content goes through highs and lows just like our lives, so I don’t mind it and generally I can relate. BUT this sign out thing..... it’s annoying as heck!

I recently came back from a Church Trip. I want to keep my high going, I don't want to have to spend 5.99 on a devotion. I should be able to get my God time in without having to pay. I recommend if you have lots of money. I don't recommend if you are just a teen and you are broke.

So much promise within this app. If sharing the gospel on social media is the goal then sharing dvo app graphics and devotionals would be ideal. However, accessing the graphics requires a fee of up to $5.99 and even the archives require a fee.

While I love DVO and Pocket Fuel, without subscribing to them you have no idea that they are EXACTLY THE SAME DEVOTIONALS on the same day. Do not make the same mistake I did and pay for a year subscription for both of them.

Hey team. I love what you’ve created I just have one bit of feedback. It wasn’t clear to me that tapping the book icon concealed actual written devotionals. Maybe consider using a call to action instead. “Read” Maybe it could say that just the first time and after the user has interacted a couple times you could pair it down to just the icon. Keep up the awesome work.

So when I first got this app I LOVED it! The first thing I would do when I woke up was check my phone to see what the picture was for the daily devotion. But, recently the photos have been repeating themselves so I've been getting the same devotion every day. And now I don't like it so much and am considering deleting the app. If this is your first time downloading the app and you've never seen the devotions before then I highly recommend downloading this app! It uses such a creative way to have a picture for the devotion. Overall, I LOVE this app. I just wish it didn't repeat the pictures and devotions everyday.
  • Sorta kinda...? Dec 29, 2015

    By Nicki Sarra
Alright, I'm really torn with this app. I really like the content, but I find myself hunting for the next grammatical error when reading. There always seems to be a little something in there, a typo or word used in the wrong context, that just bothers me. Maybe that, coupled with the author's random use of the first person, just once in a while, in a "diary" type way, is what's bugging me. However, the images are beautiful, the content is great, and I really do love it. Maybe I'm just being cynical about the grammar because I paid $10 for this year long devotional....? Je ne sais pas.

I really Pocket Fuel! The visual art, the title message and the devotion are all wonderful along with the scripture references. I was reading the series about Transformation in January. I felt your heart in part 5 of that series and I was truly blessed. Continue to bless us with your ministry and unique calling. On another note I haven't seen this in a while, but there were times the scripture verses were not correctly associated with the daily devotions. I have come across a few where the wrong scripture number were given. Overall, I am enjoying it. Thank you.
  • Awesome App! Love! Aug 15, 2013

Not only are the graphics amazing, but the scripture and devotional behind each one are great as well. Seems like the past few days God has really been talking to me through the messages I read. They related to what I was going through or feeling at the time. Great app, love it! At first it was a little confusing on how to navigate through all it's features, but with a little bit of playing around with it I have figured it out! Now its very easy to use! Download it, you won't regret it! Blessings, Lottie903

I absolutely love the devotionals that this app has, being a graphic design student it is nice to see the simple yet interesting designs they make. HOWEVER!!! ever since the change from "The Word" to "DVO" I cannot open the app on my phone at all!! On top of that, the ipad app does not fully function, there are so many great and inspirational previous designs that i want to save to my camera roll BUT the app will only save the current days no matter how many times I close and reopen the app.
  • The Most Visually Stunning Devotional App! Dec 2, 2013

    By eandllee
First of all, the images are absolutely beautiful! And, I love that I can save them to my phone or share them via social media or e-mail. My only wish is that the devotional part was as stellar. I, personally, love the Daily Bread app's devotional layout - prepare, read, explore, respond. That type of setup takes the message full-circle for me. The Daily Bread is all words & no pictures, though. I'm so impressed & inspired by the Word's graphics - so, y'all win me over there. :)

  • Stellar Design, Disappointing Content Apr 13, 2015

    By VicLabs
I've been combing the App Store for good devotional apps. Most are geared towards middle-aged women or middle schoolers. DVO is the first one that seems to be the most competently designed 'all-purpose' devotional app. The free trial (which I appreciate) will reveal that. What the free trial will also reveal is the lack of quality writing. I am (hopefully) no devotional snob, but the writing style in this app seems to be caught somewhere between text message from your youth pastor and Christian bookstore greeting card. Platitudes, all caps, restating the obvious, repetitiveness. Desert Fathers this is not. I'm not sure what the editing process is like at Pocket Fuel, but it could use some work. I do not mean to demean the efforts of the team, just that the writing style was a turn off for me in an otherwise beautiful app.
  • Love the devotionals but updated app has glitches Dec 22, 2016

    By Randas462
I want to start by saying the devotionals are really good. The issue is that the updated version of the app has glitches. I'm a subscriber and my subscription should renew in late August 2017. However according to the app, it started in late-September 2016. I've subscribed to the app for a few years now. Just want to make sure I am not charged twice next year. Also when I select restore purchases, the app freezes on me. I've tried removing the app and reinstalling but I keep running into the same issues. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon.
  • Beautiful design, encouraging words, horrible grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Feb 21, 2014

    By lauraelysee
I have had this app for several weeks now and really like it. The designs that accompany each day's devotion are beautiful and the devotions are biblically sound and encouraging. It totally deserves five stars except for the fact that the spelling errors, grammar mistakes, and poor punctuation are so distracting that I start thinking about what needs to be corrected and not about what God is wanting to teach me. I understand that the authors are from Australia and some words are spelled differently there than in the US -- that's not the problem here. The problem is just a flat out lack of proofing the content after it has been written. It would be so great if the authors could invest in a copy editor (or even a friend with a good eye) to fix these issues before the devotions show up on the app. It will only make it more professional, less distracting to the readers, and more powerful ministry tool!
  • Love it, but... Jul 13, 2013

    By pcpennock
I really love the overall idea of this app, but there are a few things that could be fixed. 1. The spelling and grammatical errors are huge. For a teacher, that's hard to want to read sometimes with so many mistakes. Proof read!! 2. Why can't you share the actual devotion with others? Copy & paste? Sometimes the point of devotions is to be able to share and be a blessing to others. 3. The new daily devotion is never ready! I wake up to check it and it has yesterday's, says tomorrow's will be revealed tomorrow, and today's is always skipped. I don't get it??

I have paid to have these daily arrive to my phone and once again I have home several days without a delivery in the phone. This is not good. We have been sticking it out with you guys for awhile now over this since the 2.0 update but you should consider refunding us for the time that we have been subscribed but have not received the service for which we have paid. If this continues without recourse or refund, I will no longer be able to recommend this app. Please fix.
  • I love this app, but it continually crashes. May 1, 2014

    By Sencenator
This is my favorite devotion, and I have purchased devotions for the entire year. So I find it extremely frustrating whenever the app crashes consistently. I'd be happy if I could just get an email of the devotion on the days where there is difficulty loading the app. I need the devotional and I hope that it will be fixed soon. I also liked the previous app when it was called Word, the format was much easier to use and it seemed like there was less software issues.

I have been using this app for nearly a year or something close to that. I love the devotions! But since I downloaded the most recent update it will not go past the loading screen... I just deleted it and redownloaded the later version from my iCloud and didn't proceed with the newest update and it is working fine. I think the new update did more harm than good. I am happy that I was able to figure out a way around, because I love the devotions and what y'all are doing!

This is a pretty good app, keeps me in the word and the interface is nice. I do wish a couple minor app changes could be made. The option of smaller font size, and the little menu bar at the bottom of the screen should have an option of disappearing when reading. And perhaps once you subscribe to the all year plan it would be nice to be able to have access to previous readings without paying for all of them separately. Thanks!!

I used to love this app because the messages were always inspiring (to me) and the accompanying graphics were better (they helped to remind me of the message more--now, it's just one or two vague words usually.) Now it feels like half of the messages are supplemented by quotes and there's always at least 1 typo every day--I know it's only 99 cents for one month, but that is unprofessional in my opinion and this app isn't worth it to me anymore.

So I have subscribed for years, but recently this app makes me sign in every day. How annoying is that?!? The content goes through highs and lows just like our lives, so I don’t mind it and generally I can relate. BUT this sign out thing..... it’s annoying as heck!
  • Great devotionals, app needs improvement Dec 20, 2016

Love the devotionals! They're great. However, to be an app I'm paying for, there are lots of glitches that need to be fixed. I bought the subscription a few days ago after the trial. Currently it shows my renewal date is in September. So did I pay for a year or for 9 months? My devo's don't refresh correctly either. It's still showing "13 hours" until today's (December 20th) shows up... the trial layout of the app was much better compared to this version. I can't even figure out how to navigate. Again, I love the messages given - I just would love if the app worked properly since it is being paid for. God bless!
  • Please Fix Right Away.. Apr 21, 2014

Please fix this app!! I had it for so long and I loved reading it, knowing I can count on this to make my day go well. It doesn't open at all for me, which means that, since I couldn't get service for weeks until recently, I'm missing my whole April subscription.. The app opens but stays on the opening loading screen, not opening even with 5 bars of LTE or 3 full bars of WiFi.. The only reason why I give it 2 stars instead of 1 is because I love this app so much.. The content, at least.. please fix right away so that I may read these lovely devotionals again!! Thank you..

  • No longer works Apr 5, 2020

Over the past month, the app has opened 1 in 10 times. I’ve deleted and re-loaded the app at least once a day. Tried the “App Support” icon in the App Store listing and was sent to the developers website. Tried logging in and apparently had forgotten my password. Asked to reset the password and never received the email that I was told would be sent. Very questionable support for an app I pay for and get to use every tenth time I open it. I have cancelled my subscription.
  • Was a good app a few years ago.... Aug 19, 2018

  • Pay for God? Aug 11, 2017

I recently came back from a Church Trip. I want to keep my high going, I don't want to have to spend 5.99 on a devotion. I should be able to get my God time in without having to pay. I recommend if you have lots of money. I don't recommend if you are just a teen and you are broke.

this app is deceiving! what does it say to our secular brothers and sisters when they are trying to bettering understand the Bible and God that they have to pay for each item within the app. let's be a light to these ppl and not always be about the all mighty dollar...
  • Disappointing... Jul 31, 2018

So much promise within this app. If sharing the gospel on social media is the goal then sharing dvo app graphics and devotionals would be ideal. However, accessing the graphics requires a fee of up to $5.99 and even the archives require a fee.
  • Exactly the same as Pocket Fuel May 21, 2018

    By Heycheckmeowt
While I love DVO and Pocket Fuel, without subscribing to them you have no idea that they are EXACTLY THE SAME DEVOTIONALS on the same day. Do not make the same mistake I did and pay for a year subscription for both of them.
  • You have to PAY👎🏼 Oct 31, 2017

    By Tabby(o^_^o)
Yeah you can download this app for free, but if you want to read anything you have to pay. The app is useless. It’s pretty sad they’re making people pay to get closer to God..

They make you pay for devotionals.

You really need to have a better QC team, this developer has released an app that DOES NOT FUNCTION, as it won't even open. The first one was glitchy, but to release an update that will not open, for many people and myself included and we pay a monthly fee for this? What's wrong here. Closing fact is that there should be no reason for a developer to host an outside checkout where he/she/they can get away with charging a monthly fee for an app that will not work, will not answer any emails for help - better said there's no communication at all. my mother set up with this app after a stressful break in her life, and while it has helped her, It's a shame she's left with unanswered emails regarding the continuing cycle of app crashes and data loss this app brings with it. I too witnessed it within minutes of downloading it on my iPhone 5. Despite its pretty use of modern colored vector shapes in Illustrator and scripted typefaces, her crashes as well as mine, keep the experience frustrating. They continue to ignore her request for support - the most important part of any subscription service, and because of this I'd say this app fails behind it's pretty little blue light. My vote goes for the more mature designer. And PS. This was for previous version. The latest version doesn't open :)
