  • Great RPG to have on the go! Feb 6, 2021

    By sobermarine
I don’t really play many mobile games, but this is a great use of the Dragon Quest license. I love tactics games and the art style of the Dragon Quest series blends together quite nicely. Smooth gameplay and a wealth of side missions, timed events and leveling mechanics keep me coming back for more. Grinding is a staple in the Dragon Quest series, but it doesn’t feel like a chore here. If you are still commuting to the office or don’t have a handheld gaming device to get your RPG itch then this is a great alternative. There are micro transactions, but from what I gather they just fast track you towards getting more powerful party members and speeding up the battles. If you have patience then you can obtain those more powerful party members in time. Music is a joy to listen to while playing, but I’m guessing you could pair the gameplay with the podcast of your choice and watch the time fly by. If you like tactics games then give this a shot, but don’t expect the most engrossing story. 8/10

The majority of the commentors are idiots, the game is very free to play friendly they are just salty. Players get rolls for free and there are often events. Characters can be unlocked by grinding with some of the best units avaliable of you put in effort. The whole game is doable without spending money but its an exceptional game so there is no reason not to support the devs a little.
  • Your usual gotcha game (if not worse). Jan 30, 2021

    By Littlemac_713
So I’ve been playing the game very day on my lunch break and when I get home. I rather enjoy the tactical gameplay and the characters are actually charming all in their own way. You could even say this game has a Pokémon vibe, but with the DQ enemies. However I have to admit that this games micro-transaction are rather heavy starting off. The rate you earn gems (this games premium currency) feel rather greedy, especially when you compare this to one of Square Enix’s other games, FF Dissidia. In fact that’s the case for a lot of this games aspects. This game even includes the concept that your paid gems won’t give you the same rewards as earned gems. Then there’s the “Passport”, which is this games subscription. Usually we’re use to the aspect of mobile games slowing us down, and offering us experience and gold boosters to speed up the process. However this game took it a step further by legit making the game and animations slower, and then offering us the “Very Fast” option in its monthly subscription “Passport”. I actually enjoy a lot of aspects of this game including the sound track, gameplay, and even charming monsters, but if you’re looking for just a good FREE-TO-PLAY JRPG mobile game, try Square Enix’s other mobile game FF Dissidia, because that one is far more free to play than this one.

There are a lot of comments on the game not being fun for F2P players which I don't understand. Haven't spent a cent and am almost done with the entire campaign. Daily gifts, bonuses and other free items are thrown at you. There are TONS of guides on how to get the best start in this game. If you don't start with a group of S and A class guys, you will waste a lot of time going back. Take 5min, read a guide and you'll have more than enough to top tier without spending any money.

This game is much more fun than the other DQ mobile game. High quality character models and localization that DQ fans will appreciate. Energy can be scarce and ranking up is slow. Level up materials are also kind of hard to come by. It’s your basic gacha with paid and free gems. The subscription gets you a faster auto battle speed which is surprisingly handy, especially since skip tickets are not too plentiful either. I wish it came with daily paid gems or something too. Other than that, prices aren’t bad and it’s free of predatory or high pressure micro transactions. Overall, it’s a fun little strategy game that is easy to play free and casual during your spare time, and also fun enough to spend a few hours, and maybe a few dollars, playing the story and powering up your favorite monsters.

I only know dragon quest from the game DRAGON QUEST Of THE STARS and Dragon Quest: Builders 2. After that I looked more into Dragon Quest games, and they seem pretty fun. Yesterday I started playing the game and I got to say it’s really nice! The characters are cute and silly, the graphics are nice, and the game is really generous when it comes to new players and is a nice way for people to get into the Dragon Quest Franchise. The strategic gameplay is nice and rare to find on mobile games too! However...I do have some problems. The reward system is kind of odd, you get your rewards then you have to go to a gift box to claim it which I find quite odd and confusing, and I also don’t get why the 10 summons are so high priced, I personally would suggest it would be 1,000 gems than 3,000. Other than that it’s good!

I’ve just started playing today, and my first impressions are positive! I didn’t want to miss the free Slime King, and the game has been fairly generous for a starting player so far. Including a chance to re-roll for a chance at an S-rank Killing Machine, etc. And I ended up settling for two S-ranks and 2 A-ranks among others. So far so good. Hopefully this game has a long life ahead of it. I was a big fan of Mobius Final Fantasy, and that game’s global version was sadly discontinued. So I am a little wary of any new Square Enix mobile titles. Cautiously optimistic is probably the best way to describe it. But here’s to a good launch of a great game!

Reminds me of my child hood. Fun too so far. Edit 1) I raised it by a star. Haven't had any problems with loading in, haven't had any problems with updates. Even being completely F2P I haven't faced any issues in not being able to compete against other players or finish the standard content. The stamina level keeps me from wasting too much time in game. Plus Battle Road keeps my need to a zero.

  • Gotcha! Feb 25, 2021

    By Sutra nitsua
This game would be so much more playable without the energy system. It adds nothing to the experience and only serves to stand in your way, so that they can drip feed you just enough content to keep you engaged while never leaving you satisfied. Otherwise I’d say it’s pretty cute, but lacks substance. Edit, after only a week of daily playtime I have drained the game of all of it’s content. All that’s left for me to do is daily quests, equipment and skill upgrades all of which are incredibly tedious and unsatisfying. Sometimes an entire day’s worth of work is only enough to upgrade one attack. The tactics never require anything more than a basic rock paper scissors understanding of how the elements work, and if your party is even a little over leveled you can pretty much ignore strategy all together. It would be really nice if the game gave you more rewards for using a team that’s a little under leveled to encourage more tactical play, but there is never a good reason to use anything other than your strongest team, and the auto battle feature makes gameplay totally mindless.

DO NOT PURCHASE PASSPORT! It doesn't work all the time. Even if I follow their instructions on how to activate it, which I shouldn't be doing since I paid for the service and I expect it to be there all the time, it still won't work. I missed the opportunity of extra gold because of this and gold is not that easy to get. Upgrading toons is heavily reliant on gold. Therefore, I can't compete much in the Arena. I can't enter harder challenges because I don't have enough gold to rank them up.

It's difficult to review a game that I can't get to work on either my galaxy tab 10.1 or my s8. I'm not sure why compatibility seems to be lacking, but I can't ignore that I've been trying to play this since launch and seemingly can't get anything to work. Please get back to me so we can figure out why this happens, and how it can be fixed

Fun until you realize they level cap F2P players. You need to fully upgrade your units to do the content, but you can only get the items to upgrade them by paying. It costs $50 to buy the items you need to fully upgrade a unit. You CANNOT farm these items in game. If you don't buy these items your team will be sitting at level 90 instead of 110 and you won't be able to do any of the content. And since you need EXP scrolls to get to that level and you can't farm those either that's it's own challenge. They've set this game up to only work for whales. If you have thousands of dollars to spend on this game, I'd still spend it on a better game.
  • Don’t buy gems Mar 29, 2021

Decent game, even if it is a straight up reskin of other App Store games that I have tried, like Dungeon Boss with Dragon Quest graphics. However, I decided to go for an in app purchase and they trick you on how many paid gems you really get. There’s a distinction between paid and free gems in this game that I’ve never seen before, and if you purchase gems the bonus gems are considered free and any gems earned through the game are the same. In this way, they keep you from using the paid in game currency (gems) so that you can’t use them for the best items or the best monster draws such as guaranteed Rank S draws since they aren’t paid gems. The most whorish paid currency schemes I’ve ever seen in an App Store game and upon finding it out I immediately uninstalled. Don’t waste your time and money.

Expensive gotcha and very low S drop rates. Always get other S monster instead of featured. , if their drop rates remains low and expensive, let's move on to other games..Updated, the gotcha still sux and everything is cunningly planned to lure you to spend. Very ill motive of this Developer.(this business division of Square Enix)

I am so sick of these PTW games. This format is the reason these big game companies do not make any real games anymore. I was initially excited for this game because they made it look like it might be more like a real Dragon Quest experience. Sadly, I was wrong once again. Same old crap as always, stamina limits, pay to get characters, etc. This one is really devious about the PTW scheme as it seems like you are getting plenty of the currency needed for getting these items in the games “new launch event”. However, you will soon find out that the gems you get are different from the “paid” gems (which are not given without paying), which are the ones required to actually get anything. Please stop supporting these games so they will stop making them!!!!!!

It's ok, want very basic stratagty game with dragon quest as a coat of paint? Well here you go! You want another mobile game without real pvp? Well here you go! I want some real pvp not this stupid kind. Seriously you can't put just a little more effort in to your $5 mobile app that would have done much better as a real game? I would have loved this kinda game on pc or console catching you own monsters and evolving them in to new ones like the dragon quest monsters series! We got this "game".

I had been playing since the first week, spent a lot more than I should have, but I just can't take it anymore. The game isn't free to play friendly at all. The drop rates for everything is super low and the stamina system they use is beyond unfriendly. I would have been ok with the cost of banners if you didn't constantly need to spend your gems just to play the game a normal amount. If you want to pull on the banners, you're required to spend money and the cost of the gems is ridiculous.

This is my first review on an app or game ever. I just wanted to say that I really really really tried to give this game a chance. I’m very fond of Dragon Quest having grown up with the series which is why this game leaves a rather notable sting. I desperately wanted to like this game as it has everything to love about Dragon Quest, minus the micro transactions, but the constant crashing of the app, sluggish response even with everything set to a minimum, and eventual pay wall to progress just got to much for me. I don’t mind an app to have micro transactions but when it becomes mandatory to actually play the game that kills any and all enjoyment for me right there. Any DQ game I get from now on will only be a port on my phone or a dedicated title on a console.

So far all I can say is AWWWWW YEAH! This game reminds of Dragon Quest Monsters! I loved being able to be the monsters and demons and enemies in those games and similar to Dragon Quest 8! I kinda enjoyed Dragon Quest of the Stars, but this one is waaaaaay more fun. Reminds me of Fire Emblem a little bit, but again, I like the whole of Dragon Quest series more than Fire Emblem. This game is fun because I like the grid-based movement and strategy. I can’t wait to get farther in this game. Please keep it fun and entertaining! Any person out there that even slightly enjoys RPGs, Dragon Quest, and having fun should download TODAY!!!!

This game visually speaking is simple and that’s what makes it beautiful. A beloved franchise and artist still here decades later for those who wanna see this franchise thrive. Complaints about micro transactions are kinda getting old. Just don’t buy them. You can play without it, and as far as the energy system goes, I’ve always seen that as a good thing. It ensures that I don’t waste to much time on it and leaves me excited for what I’ll do later once I have more energy for missions. In all this is a blast to play through out the day.

If you like the DQ series, try it, just don’t expect miracles (or even ok luck) at scouting for new mons. Even the second best tier (A) is brutal to get, let alone S tier. Luckily free crystals are plentiful (at the start) so save them until you feel ready to fill a team. Also, the energy is syrup on a slow day. Like 5 minutes for 1 energy and when a single story run costs 12.....I mean come on. Other than that it really is entertaining for the DQ series 👍 PSA: They don’t tell you that they have 2 exchange options. One is paid gems and one is free, they aren’t that different and just gives a boost. Devs, if you actually read these, please add a monster-pedia type section so we can see where to get copies of mons without having to search dozens of stages.

Look so a lot of the reviews on here just seem like really disgruntled people like this is a pay to win game definitely but it's also a phone game guys. If you're into it and you're willing to put in the grind you can get anything you need just got to put a little bit of time and effort into it as a free to play player
  • Your usual gotcha game (if not worse). Jan 30, 2021

When Dragon Quest Tact released it was fun, the characters were likable and resembled their pst and present forms. It felt you were engaging in nostalgia. However after only being released for two months in the US it’s apparent that Square Enix does what Square Enix always does. It makes their players spend ridiculous amounts of money just to be competitive. Asking players to spend on average $50 a month. The drop rates for acquiring the top tier characters is completely against you. Working hard and grinding levels to build your squad is part of the enjoyment of this game. But those characters can’t get you past certain points unless you BUY the top tier. The opportunities to acquire top tier characters are limited to twenty one days, then oh here you go try again with a completely new character and start all over.

Gacha rates are lackluster, and so is the earned in game currency. Options for leveling up troops are limited and/or grindy and locked behind resource walls. The skill upgrade and ascension system is abysmal. "High difficulty" challenges require the most obscure tactics and troops to win, and the likelyhood of completing them without watching videos is miniscule. The only thing this game really had going for it was the Dragon Quest name.

Game if decent, but the reward system is dumb, you claim rewards from missions then got to claim the rewards again from the present tab and have to confirm multiple times, and have to claim rewards after each fight as well. Why not just make the rewards from the fight go directly into the inventory, like the gold. To me that is the main down side to this game. That and load screen times are pretty long. And they need to add info for attacks like which attack is buffed by wis or agility so we know what weapon to equip and what to shoot for. Maybe even add way to remove spells or abilities not just change out the learned ability cause there are some ability that just seems useless. Potentially really great game just needs lots of work. Will see if it improves. But is getting old quick.

very fun turn based game, gatcha element is not in your favour ever, and unless you dish out an insane amount of money, it takes awhile to get gems for worthwhile summons. im really only in it for the dragon quest name anymore

I love Dragon Quest, played it on Nintendo DS. Amazing games. So I loved the monsters etc. Tiny issue is the amount of time you've got to put in to exp your monsters. Also such a shame the game won't launch anymore. That's the reason only 2 Stars.

Was a decent F2P game. Played since US launch. Gets a little stale and ended up just autoplaying most battles. The story is cheeky but I have a hard time caring enough to read through the text. Gets a 1 star cause it's the only game I've played where it didn't link with my Google account. The app wouldn't launch so I figured I'd reinstall it and lost everything. Very thankful I never spent money on this game. Just a massive waste of time.

  • Big Cash Grab May 13, 2021

When you play a game that has great characters and charm, even a smooth game play, it doesn’t matter when you need to spend 100s just to get one character you like on a banner. This game has no pity system, no “on the 5th pull guaranteed” nothing to help you get the team you want. Unless your a whale (big spender) you will be stuck with a low budget team of crappy S ranks that despite their rank are garbage against the on banner S Ranks. And don’t let the free tickets and gems fool you, you’ll get garbage every time unless you spend ALOT. Not to mention to power up each character you need MULTIPLES of them... I just quit today n deleted this cash grab, save yourself the gambling addiction n money.
