Not exactly a F2P friendly. Unless you're a super competitive player, you can still enjoy the game. It's well built. Good storyline if you're kind of like that variable on your game. Great events. You can definetely compete in the top 500 players as an F2P. While the most active players perhaps around 4-5K my guess. Loved the musoc, monsters and heroes.

So I’ve been playing the game very day on my lunch break and when I get home. I rather enjoy the tactical gameplay and the characters are actually charming all in their own way. You could even say this game has a Pokémon vibe, but with the DQ enemies. However I have to admit that this games micro-transaction are rather heavy starting off. The rate you earn gems (this games premium currency) feel rather greedy, especially when you compare this to one of Square Enix’s other games, FF Dissidia. In fact that’s the case for a lot of this games aspects. This game even includes the concept that your paid gems won’t give you the same rewards as earned gems. Then there’s the “Passport”, which is this games subscription. Usually we’re use to the aspect of mobile games slowing us down, and offering us experience and gold boosters to speed up the process. However this game took it a step further by legit making the game and animations slower, and then offering us the “Very Fast” option in its monthly subscription “Passport”. I actually enjoy a lot of aspects of this game including the sound track, gameplay, and even charming monsters, but if you’re looking for just a good FREE-TO-PLAY JRPG mobile game, try Square Enix’s other mobile game FF Dissidia, because that one is far more free to play than this one.

I really enjoyed the game to spend money in the app. However, after the most recent update, I can't get past the "Touch to Start" screen. I touch the screen, it acts like it's loading for a second, then just stays on that screen. I cleared my cache and uninstalled/reinstalled the app to no avail.
  • A quality game for DQ fans Feb 14, 2021

This game is much more fun than the other DQ mobile game. High quality character models and localization that DQ fans will appreciate. Energy can be scarce and ranking up is slow. Level up materials are also kind of hard to come by. It’s your basic gacha with paid and free gems. The subscription gets you a faster auto battle speed which is surprisingly handy, especially since skip tickets are not too plentiful either. I wish it came with daily paid gems or something too. Other than that, prices aren’t bad and it’s free of predatory or high pressure micro transactions. Overall, it’s a fun little strategy game that is easy to play free and casual during your spare time, and also fun enough to spend a few hours, and maybe a few dollars, playing the story and powering up your favorite monsters.

I had lost my game data of arduous months...because new updates wouldn't update. The game makes you download it, or it doesn't let you play or try new events in. I tried Everything so then reinstalled it. I had daily progress for months, and bought over 150$ of ingame scouts. It's a very exciting system with many possibilities. Several relevant aspects to advance in the game. Keen quality GUI and animations, smooth transitions between functions.

Fun game. It's awesome that Draon Quest sticks with original monsters and familiar music and expands from there. Change is good, But connecting storylines and original content from the past keeps the whole spirit alive of my favorite game of all time. Thank you to the cerators, and don't ever stop re-creating masterpieces of adventure! The world needs it, especially in these times.

I only know dragon quest from the game DRAGON QUEST Of THE STARS and Dragon Quest: Builders 2. After that I looked more into Dragon Quest games, and they seem pretty fun. Yesterday I started playing the game and I got to say it’s really nice! The characters are cute and silly, the graphics are nice, and the game is really generous when it comes to new players and is a nice way for people to get into the Dragon Quest Franchise. The strategic gameplay is nice and rare to find on mobile games too! However...I do have some problems. The reward system is kind of odd, you get your rewards then you have to go to a gift box to claim it which I find quite odd and confusing, and I also don’t get why the 10 summons are so high priced, I personally would suggest it would be 1,000 gems than 3,000. Other than that it’s good!

Ive never played a dragon quest game before. So i thought that getting into this would be hard. But no, getting into this game is amazing and im happy that i gave it a chance. Everything is vibrant. The colors, the art work etc. And the music is just banging with trumpet blairs that really get you hooked for whats to come. The hud isnt cluttered or messy, and everything is easy to follow. The battle system is fun and enjoyable and i like the whole monster catching vibe this game has. 5 stars!

If your a long time dragon quest fan, this is the game for you c: it reminds me of fire emblem three houses abit with its mechanics, and monster rancher, but it gives me vibes from dragon quest builders 2, im not a big fan of dragon quest two the stars i feel like its missing an element from the original dragon quest games but this one gives you the missing pieces! It even has great cutscenes like the old dragon quest games and artyle, plus i adore the characters and story so far, its better then the dragon quest too the stars one where everyhing feels out of place and all over the place, its hard too get immersed in that one in my opinion, although its not terrible, i dont like that characters or the story that much in that game though. Their abit overly positive and annoying

Enjoyable Game, F2P Model a Minus. I really enjoy these kind of tactical RPGs, and I enjoy using the familiar monsters from DQ. The tactical RPG elements are done very well. The Free to Play model, however, means that this game really pushes you to put money into it on a regular basis to be able to advance. I would rather just buy the game instead of the F2P model, but I understand that's not how the market is right now.

  • Gotcha! Feb 25, 2021

    By Sutra nitsua
This game would be so much more playable without the energy system. It adds nothing to the experience and only serves to stand in your way, so that they can drip feed you just enough content to keep you engaged while never leaving you satisfied. Otherwise I’d say it’s pretty cute, but lacks substance. Edit, after only a week of daily playtime I have drained the game of all of it’s content. All that’s left for me to do is daily quests, equipment and skill upgrades all of which are incredibly tedious and unsatisfying. Sometimes an entire day’s worth of work is only enough to upgrade one attack. The tactics never require anything more than a basic rock paper scissors understanding of how the elements work, and if your party is even a little over leveled you can pretty much ignore strategy all together. It would be really nice if the game gave you more rewards for using a team that’s a little under leveled to encourage more tactical play, but there is never a good reason to use anything other than your strongest team, and the auto battle feature makes gameplay totally mindless.

Being a fan of dragon quest this is a fun game for a few months until you realize it is nothing but a gacha without a whole lot of substance. To survive, this game needs a legitimate way to connect with other players. It needs a global chat. It needs alliances and alliance wars to give you a legitimate reason to spend money/ support your teammates. Without that it just becomes stale. After spending too much money before I realized this...uninstalling.
  • Don’t buy gems Mar 29, 2021

Decent game, even if it is a straight up reskin of other App Store games that I have tried, like Dungeon Boss with Dragon Quest graphics. However, I decided to go for an in app purchase and they trick you on how many paid gems you really get. There’s a distinction between paid and free gems in this game that I’ve never seen before, and if you purchase gems the bonus gems are considered free and any gems earned through the game are the same. In this way, they keep you from using the paid in game currency (gems) so that you can’t use them for the best items or the best monster draws such as guaranteed Rank S draws since they aren’t paid gems. The most whorish paid currency schemes I’ve ever seen in an App Store game and upon finding it out I immediately uninstalled. Don’t waste your time and money.

Unplayable. Can't progress beyond C1 E4. Ran into a bug with no fix. Cutscene plays and then I hit a black screen that pulses in response to touch and has a skip button that does nothing. Tried a new install, new game, backed up game, all graphics/sound settings. Nothing works. Contacted support and got the generic "we'll look into" it response (2 months ago) with no help. Missing all the events since June and can't use most log in rewards because I can't progress beyond the tutorial chapter.

I am so sick of these PTW games. This format is the reason these big game companies do not make any real games anymore. I was initially excited for this game because they made it look like it might be more like a real Dragon Quest experience. Sadly, I was wrong once again. Same old crap as always, stamina limits, pay to get characters, etc. This one is really devious about the PTW scheme as it seems like you are getting plenty of the currency needed for getting these items in the games “new launch event”. However, you will soon find out that the gems you get are different from the “paid” gems (which are not given without paying), which are the ones required to actually get anything. Please stop supporting these games so they will stop making them!!!!!!

Constant annoyances make what should be a light and fun game annoying & tedious. Stages download in the foreground and require manual approval every time (or kill your storage with "download all data"). Movement AI blocks your teammates. Finishing a battle requires constant tapping and waiting while the game freezes for two seconds to show the XP gained, then another two seconds while it shows you what ability increased by +1 if you leveled. "Collect All Rewards" is really six at a time.

This is my first review on an app or game ever. I just wanted to say that I really really really tried to give this game a chance. I’m very fond of Dragon Quest having grown up with the series which is why this game leaves a rather notable sting. I desperately wanted to like this game as it has everything to love about Dragon Quest, minus the micro transactions, but the constant crashing of the app, sluggish response even with everything set to a minimum, and eventual pay wall to progress just got to much for me. I don’t mind an app to have micro transactions but when it becomes mandatory to actually play the game that kills any and all enjoyment for me right there. Any DQ game I get from now on will only be a port on my phone or a dedicated title on a console.

I got signed out and couldn't log back in because their Facebook account login is bugged, so I contacted support about recovering my account. I told them literally everything about the account and showed them receipts from purchases I'd made with the account and they said they weren't even going to try to locate my account even though it would take literally 5 seconds to look up the order numbers from the purchases and find the account. Beyond incompetent.

When you play a game that has great characters and charm, even a smooth game play, it doesn’t matter when you need to spend 100s just to get one character you like on a banner. This game has no pity system, no “on the 5th pull guaranteed” nothing to help you get the team you want. Unless your a whale (big spender) you will be stuck with a low budget team of crappy S ranks that despite their rank are garbage against the on banner S Ranks. And don’t let the free tickets and gems fool you, you’ll get garbage every time unless you spend ALOT. Not to mention to power up each character you need MULTIPLES of them... I just quit today n deleted this cash grab, save yourself the gambling addiction n money.

I like the Game but with some opponents in Arena Battles, game is FIXED in their favour! During battle opponent scores 80% brilliant or above hits (inc. Brutal or Magic Runaway. All of my hits are normal or sub-par. So I have to battle opponents, with a Team 40% or lower in terms Attack Power - not always available, to stand any chance of winning. So Arena Battles are Fixed, if you want a fair game, choose another One.

I’ve just started playing today, and my first impressions are positive! I didn’t want to miss the free Slime King, and the game has been fairly generous for a starting player so far. Including a chance to re-roll for a chance at an S-rank Killing Machine, etc. And I ended up settling for two S-ranks and 2 A-ranks among others. So far so good. Hopefully this game has a long life ahead of it. I was a big fan of Mobius Final Fantasy, and that game’s global version was sadly discontinued. So I am a little wary of any new Square Enix mobile titles. Cautiously optimistic is probably the best way to describe it. But here’s to a good launch of a great game!

So far all I can say is AWWWWW YEAH! This game reminds of Dragon Quest Monsters! I loved being able to be the monsters and demons and enemies in those games and similar to Dragon Quest 8! I kinda enjoyed Dragon Quest of the Stars, but this one is waaaaaay more fun. Reminds me of Fire Emblem a little bit, but again, I like the whole of Dragon Quest series more than Fire Emblem. This game is fun because I like the grid-based movement and strategy. I can’t wait to get farther in this game. Please keep it fun and entertaining! Any person out there that even slightly enjoys RPGs, Dragon Quest, and having fun should download TODAY!!!!

If you like the DQ series, try it, just don’t expect miracles (or even ok luck) at scouting for new mons. Even the second best tier (A) is brutal to get, let alone S tier. Luckily free crystals are plentiful (at the start) so save them until you feel ready to fill a team. Also, the energy is syrup on a slow day. Like 5 minutes for 1 energy and when a single story run costs 12.....I mean come on. Other than that it really is entertaining for the DQ series 👍 PSA: They don’t tell you that they have 2 exchange options. One is paid gems and one is free, they aren’t that different and just gives a boost. Devs, if you actually read these, please add a monster-pedia type section so we can see where to get copies of mons without having to search dozens of stages.

Gems to pull are very scarce and a bit time consuming as f2p. Most F2P units are really good though so you can live without pulling hard! Apart from that the game is really fun, strongly recommend you to try!

Having played since release, I can safely say DQ Tact is a slow but steady burn style game. This is a pro & a con, as if you juggle other games it can feel overwhelming to complete all the content events bring. Pity is at 300 pulls, and gems are expensive. If you want a game that lets you build massive rosters and customize them for challenges across the board though, it can't be beat. The skills, equipment, and synergy make a fun formula, just one too time consuming for me these days~

Very cute and a pretty fun with a silly story that knows when to take itself seriously, as I would expect from Dragon Quest. The SRPG mechanics are good too, but the gatcha kills the game's difficulty and caused me to get a bit bored. But, that's only because it's handled very well with generous free pulls.

When Dragon Quest Tact released it was fun, the characters were likable and resembled their pst and present forms. It felt you were engaging in nostalgia. However after only being released for two months in the US it’s apparent that Square Enix does what Square Enix always does. It makes their players spend ridiculous amounts of money just to be competitive. Asking players to spend on average $50 a month. The drop rates for acquiring the top tier characters is completely against you. Working hard and grinding levels to build your squad is part of the enjoyment of this game. But those characters can’t get you past certain points unless you BUY the top tier. The opportunities to acquire top tier characters are limited to twenty one days, then oh here you go try again with a completely new character and start all over.

Fun at the beginning, but getting boring and exhausting after 2~3 months. You repeat playing the same stages hundreds of times, really hundreds, to level up your monsters. And all good monsters are drawn with a very low probability. You wont have a chance to have those good ones unless you spend thousands of $. Even you spend $, you only have 25% rate to get event monsters. And I heard some people had trouble unsubscribing. ($5 / month)

Game if decent, but the reward system is dumb, you claim rewards from missions then got to claim the rewards again from the present tab and have to confirm multiple times, and have to claim rewards after each fight as well. Why not just make the rewards from the fight go directly into the inventory, like the gold. To me that is the main down side to this game. That and load screen times are pretty long. And they need to add info for attacks like which attack is buffed by wis or agility so we know what weapon to equip and what to shoot for. Maybe even add way to remove spells or abilities not just change out the learned ability cause there are some ability that just seems useless. Potentially really great game just needs lots of work. Will see if it improves. But is getting old quick.

Long time DQ fan. Great game. My only complaint is that you had to use very annoying BGM for most of the game. Like the music selected for the scout menu when summoning is like the most annoying BGM in the series. Should have used a battle tune of some sorts. We're summoning monsters after all.

Pretty fun game, but it's so slow and laggy. The menus are a slog to get through and it has to load to do basically anything. When you get to play it's pretty fun, and it's nice getting new characters to join you, but the game and the menus are so slow and laggy.
