Played DQ 1 2 3. This one was a joy to play as well! Took me around 31 hours to complete including the post ending content. Personality amongst characters is definitely the strong point of this game! Party chat is tonssss of fun. I found myself smiling and laughing quite many times due to party chat. Favorite character for me is definitely alena & ragnar. Overall quite a few party composition you can go for tho some are more op than the others. Recommended for casual play & (j)rpg enthusiasts!

This game needs to be updated to include drag anywhere on screen to move. All of the other DQ iOS games have it besides this one and VIII but that game should get pulled and replaced with the 3DS versions anyway. If you plan on playing all of the DQ games on mobile start with this one so you won’t get spoiled by not using the virtual joystick.

A 5 star game that looks nice and is beginner friendly. While it's not great that this is a mobile only game since touch controls are bad at best, the game itself is soild. DQ4 is Shorter the most modern RPGs.

It's always been a great game. Some character names changed slightly, but no biggie. Unlike the original version, you can control all of the characters instead of just setting their AI. It's been great replaying one of my all time favorites!

I played through the whole game, plus Post-Game content. It's a fantastic story (one of the best in the series) with some of the most memorable characters in the series. It also fixes the botched lack of party speak that the DS failed to have, get this game as soon as you can. Hopefully, it'll get a Console and PC port alongside every DQ game in the series.

If you enjoyed the previous games in the series and the original NES version, then pay the few 💲 and download this to your 📲. The "Zenithian trilogy" (DQ 4️⃣,5️⃣, 6️⃣) is superior than original trilogy. The sequels, however, are very loosely connected so it's unnecessary to play this beforehand. The story, gameplay and graphics 👾 are markedly better than what the NES offered. ⚠ DON'T 🚫 APPRAISE with Torneko ⚠. As others have commented that there was still a bug unfortunately that will freeze the game that hasn't yet been fix (hence the ⭐ deduction)--even though you don't really need it. As a teen in the 90's I stopped after the first one because I mostly rented games and these took a long ⏳ to beat. This took me around 70 hours to complete but that's because I want find out what everyone has to say 🗣 including travel companions and discover treasures. Although I didn't bother finishing the arduous post-game content because it isn't worth the 😓 and instead just watched it on YouTube 💻.

The iOS versions of 1-3 were improvements in my opinion, particularly 2 and 3. Not so on 4. The gameplay and graphics are wonky and the translation is HORRIBLE. Really, really bad. To the point where I take screenshots of the dialogue because it’s so terrible that it is hilarious. Still enjoyable, but holy god you can tell they put far less effort into this port than they did for the incredibly simple DW1.

I was wary of the complaints about the translation, but they've proven unfounded. It's quite decent; people are confusing the phonetic spelling and intentionally broken or dialectic english with poor writing. The use of these devices is common in early rpgs, before audible speech and detailed graphics could be used to convey ethnic variations. This adds distinctiveness to each region, though it demands more of the reader (eg: familiarity with legitimate, but obscure words like "ken" and "bairn".)

My family and I first played DW4 on the Nintendo entertainment system (NES) many years ago. Back then it was a ground breaking game with new gameplay systems and character development. The iOS version is a great improvement over the original, and will be a enjoyable experience for anyone that likes JRPGs.

This deserves 5 stars but for one absolutely game-destroying bug. Saves get deleted for some reason when you don't play for a month or so. This is intolerable, and the same bug exists in part 5.
  • Great game! Need option to mute *all* sound Jun 27, 2020

    By Pippentook
Great game, but the grinding is made almost unbearable since you can’t mute the sound (without turning your volume all the way down), which also means you can’t use your own music (Pandora/Spotify in the background). Super annoying. Many times I sit down to play but give up cause I just want some music playing at the same time. Fix that super frustrating option and I’d give at least a 4 star.
  • I don’t care about your music or SFX Jan 31, 2021

Stop forcing me to listen to your stupid in game music and sfx. There is zero purpose for you to force my other audio apps to shutdown when I open this app. I played DQ1-3 for hundreds of hours listening to audible and loved it. But now I CHOOSE to not to open DQ4 simply because my audiobook stops the moment I open DQ4. Please fix this.

TL;DR: great, but has game-breaking glitches. This is the definitive version of Dragon Quest IV, featuring everything good about the fantastic, albeit incomplete, Nintendo DS remake from 2008 in addition to the wonderful party chat feature which was missing from that version of the game. However, I can't give this game the positive rating it deserves because, as of version 1.1.1, it consistently freezes every time you try to use the character Torneko's 'Appraise' ability. Wait for a patch.
  • Marred by technical problems and interface issues. Feb 13, 2021

    By Selvius
My understanding is that the game itself is quite good. Sadly, it is hidden behind an imprecise and uncomfortable interface (seriously, iPad players prepare for thumb discomfort) with no controller support, and a cloud sync feature that never actually works. No escape to the iPhone version for these poor despairing thumbs.
  • Translation terrible Nov 24, 2018

I’m a huge fan of the dragon warrior dragon quest series. Played the originals when I was a wee lad. Loved them, I was excited to replay on the iOS. 1 2 and 3 were amazing. But this translation is so terrible. Some of the words are not even words. If this is your first dragon quest game I’d skip this and play dragon quest three instead.

Just beat it! It took about 35 hours for me. I love this game!! Anyone complaining about the price needs to realize this is a PLATFORM GAME, not some little iphone game. Remember when we paid $50 for a new N64 game? It's like that, but cheaper, and with the convenience of playing from your iphone. 5 stars!

First game to have party members with personality and dialogue. Party chat is incredible, your squad has a ton of things to say about so much and it really makes them feel close and realistic. Sprites are GORGEOUS, they animate INCREDIBLY well and battle animations are cool. Game is a little easy, but still fun. Dungeons are a little short. World map design I enjoyed less than 3 and 2. The quest for the armor could be better, but all in all the game is quite fun.

People try to make fun or complain about the translation. They’re too stupid to realize that the developers were trying to give the characters accents.... so sad. Wonderful game. Takes me back, and I appreciate the effort

I've played this game for years since the original NES release, through remakes upon remakes. This game is very clean, and offers to the point where you can't become super over powered, because even then, ther end boss can still wreck you if you don't know what you're doing. Lol.

This is a fun, and amazing game in the Zenithian trilogy. This game is the definitive version of Dragon Quest IV and I highly recommend you get it. It really is just a DS port with the party chat feature that was left out in that version. The only thing that truly bugs me is the fact that at the time of this review, the game crashes whenever you use the merchant Torneko's "Appraise" ability. Torneko gives his own unique commentary on the items, but we miss out on that. Still a great title.

If the have could implement controller support, that would be nice. Otherwise, the touch controls are okay. DQ1 had nicer touch controls. Even better would be tap navigation and or full tap integration (tap a tile to walk to that tile, tap an NPC to talk to them, etc.. ) Aside from that, this is Dragon Quest 4 and is just as good as it's always been. Graphics are pretty, game runs fine.

It's a good remake/port of the original! Just wish they kept the difficulty level the same as the original as well, it's the same problem I've had with most NES RPG ports. Just no real challenge compared to the original. Still fun though😅

I'm not a huge fan of being able to rotate the camera but I got used to it quickly; my real issue arises whenever I try to appraise something with Torneko Taloon- the game freezes every time. I'm only on chapter 3 so, maybe it wont freeze when I try to appraise something in the final chapter? Still, VERY annoying, especially if this doesn't get fixed. Otherwise, good remake of a good classic.
