An expensive app, that I caught on sale, and an absolutely wonderful port. In fact this is among my favorite console to mobile games ever. The graphics are clean and vibrant and I happen to think the controls work really well, especially with a stylus device. I will warn you that you may have trouble downloading or running the game on certain devices. Don't expect to play it on a cheap phone. For instance, I could not run it on LG Stylo 6, but can run it on Moto G Stylus 5g.
  • Exceeds expectations for UI Jan 31, 2020

There’s so many lazy ports to mobile floating around, but the revamped mobile UI in this game is a great example of how to translate a console game into something intuitive. Lots of new tappable icons and context-sensitive controls. The hub world opens up “hot key” icons for shops in chapter 2, so you can really streamline the experience from that point. Only major complaint at the moment is how clunky it is to go from “move character” to “select that character’s action”. Hopefully it’ll get a patch for that, though it’s not game breaking. Autobattle is a treasure for Mobile. Disgaea was already widely known as the game which learned how to make grinding/character raising as interesting and fun as possible. But now they’ve added it in full to the best platform for idle games and tossed a solid autobattle option into it! It’s a match made in grinding heaven... or netherworld as the case may be.

As a long-term fan of Disgaea games, I’m loving it so far. Very polished. Works great on my iPad Pro. The user interface is fantastic. The fonts are fairly tiny but still crisp and easy to read. I worried about this because there’s a lot of info to display in these games and my eyesight isn’t what it once was. Whew! Surprisingly, it’s actually readable on my phone too. Go figure. It is such a refreshing change from all the freeware crap out there with IAP (pardon my language). Well worth the money for a game that may no doubt amuse me for hundreds of hours. Two thumbs up! Review subject to change as I get further in, but I am very optimistic! Been playing for about an hour. Absolutely no complaints so far. Exceeds my expectations! Beautiful graphics, wonderful music/sound, great voice dialogue, and excellent nearly endless and deep RPG game play!! Yes!!!

What a delight this is. Not only is Disgaea a particularly delightful game of its genre (get it without hesitation if you have interest in these titles and haven’t played it), Disgaea Complete for iOS an exceptional port, including new features and luxuries, and is packed with quality of life improvements which help to bring an otherwise aged game into modern enjoyment. But, what really surprised me, is the interface for this otherwise complicated game (in terms of inputs) has been skillfully and effectively reworked across the board for fast, intuitive, and reliable touch interaction. New interfaces have been created to solve problems that would have otherwise existed in an adaptation. I am thoroughly impressed. This is the sort of premium title which I sincerely wished was more commonplace on the App Store. Designed with love and care for this specific interface, free of all the F2P hurdles which drag games and game design into the mud, and solidly a delight from start to finish. I do hope it is successful at this opening price point because this sort of release has been rather unprecedented in the App Store and it would be nice if that changed. And I’d love to see some other popular titles from this developer. Great job!

So this is exactly what you would hope and expect it plays well the auto battle is awesome as I much prefer the management aspects of building up a character and watching my creation wreck the other side. Up to 8X speed!! I love to grind but time isn't always on my side being able to automate and speed up this amazing game while still getting all the time to enjoy the story and world of disgaea is the optimal play experience.

Thank you thank you thank you! I have been hoping for this game to come to smart devices. Bring back fond memories and definitely has always been an amazing grind game. But there are two issues that I came across. 1) With auto save/auto battle on in item world, it can overwrite characters. It seems to take any three characters (even a chance of main ones!) and overwrites them with ones you wouldn’t even consider and cannot delete no matter what. Simple solution I found was just to turn off auto save altogether. But it’s still an issue worth addressing. 2) Trying to use a controller is very confusing. Not certain if there is a way to tweak that in settings or anything. As well as only being limited to basic functions. Would be nice if they perfected this portion for a few reasons: grind games should offer a sense of convenience somewhere, controls for touch screens use nearly every corner (can get painful after a while), and being overly dependent on auto battle can almost defeat the purpose of playing the game. Other than that I am very happy that I got this game and I hope you bring more Disgaea in the future.

I have been dying for this game to come out on iOS for years now. I love Disgaea games and thought they would be a perfect fit for iPhone. I have bought this titles thrice now. didn’t even hesitate even with the 30 dollar price tag and this game is amazing. It’s not just a port they flesh it out and feel like it was made for a handheld phone. My only wish is the ability to mute the game sound so I can listen to my audiobook or my own music while playing. I can sink hours into this game but don’t want to have to stop playing to listen to books. The game currently interfere with audio and stops it even if you put all sound at 0 setting. That small grip is my only complaint otherwise this game from what I have played is a perfect 10.

Both myself and the app development are at early stages of the game. I bought it hoping to play it on the big screen using the Apple TV and a controller while at home, and play on the phone while on the road. Unfortunately, this game does not support the Apple TV yet. I am a HUGE FAN of Disgaea series. Meaning my review will be extremely bias 😅 So far, the game is Amazing. I'm playing on an iPhone Xs Max right now. Controls need a little getting used to, but I seem to have full control of the camera and other features using on screen buttons, which is nice. I wonder if gestures would make it better or worse. I noticed that the app store says it works on iPad. I will give that a go. Playing on a 12.9 inch touch screen would be interesting! I hope an update to support the Apple TV is in the works. Again, my point is to play on the big screen at home, and on the phone while I'm out and about. Screen mirroring works. I will attempt using a DualShock controller with the iPhone and screen mirroring! (Does that work? I never tried the iOS 13 feature of gaming controllers) No doubt, this game gets 5 stars from me.

All of the sudden lost all the sound to the game. I have restarted my phone and updated it just in case but my other apps are working just fine for volume. I have also checked the in game settings just to be sure but no matter what I do I still don’t have volume. Is there anyway to fix this? Besides that I very much enjoy playing this game on my phone due to the auto battle feature and battle combat speed up. The console versions don’t have those abilities so it makes it much easier to play the game time wise.

Im a huge fan of the game. Own it on all possible devices. This cannot be played. I get less then 1% of it download then it hangs. The developer doesn't have proper support to deal with what ever server issues they having. For a $48 game this is unexcuseable. Looks like this issue has been around for a good year now. DON'T BUY IT FOR THE MOBLIE VERSION. get it on console instead 😣

Unable to play as I cannot install. Apparently they are having server issues, only allocating a tiny number of files to my device each time I ping the server, hanging indefinitely. Each time requiring me to reboot the app for the next 20mb or so, occasionally blaming it on a lack of internet (as I can tab over to a twitch stream). Please fix your servers.
  • Rating the App, not the game Jul 19, 2020

    By DarkForceLegend
Disgaea is hands down my favorite tactical RPG. Story, characters, game mechanics. I find them all very enjoyable. I’ve bought the game on multiple platforms and would do it again. My problem is the app itself. The most important and biggest problem I have is the game crashing. I’ve installed updates, rebooted, lowered graphic settings, and the game still crashes. Other things that could use some touching up is streamlining movement during combat while using the touch screen and viewing enemy stats. Perhaps for movement there can be a drag function... may help. Maybe a press and hold on an enemy to view its movement range and stat sheet; clicking anything else afterwords would back out of that. UI... I honestly feel that a lot of the item equipping and such can be consolidated down to one tab. No reason to have a separate stat page and a separate equip page. Also, when looking at the mentor pupil page it lists no character name, so I have to select the stat tab just to see who I’m viewing. Shop UI, most things are manageable, but the selling is not. It’s nearly unbearable using the touch screen. It’s nice I can sell everything based off of rarity, but there are some common stuff I’d like to keep. It’d be nice to just have the ability to go down my inventory checking things off I’d like to sell. Everything is tolerable; the game crashing is not. It makes it unplayable. Thus, I’m being prevented from playing a game I truly enjoy.

Excited to get into Disgaea world and start with Disgaea 1 complete.. Watched many reviews and fell in love with the style and gameplay. HUGE Disappointment because I purchased and then download kept gettting stuck at around 2% although my WIFI is 500 Mbps. Restarted around 20 times.. still stuck.. Really really wanted to play this game :( but I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask for refund..

Rating 1* for now as the file download problem is shocking. 20+ restarts so far and it usually downloads 1-2% before freezing. Started off with 1100 files to download, now on 8703 two hours later. No problems with my high speed WiFi - the servers hosting the files are clearly not up to the job.

I really love the franchise and this would be a dream come true but the game installs fine but gets stuck on the downloading additional data screen. Can't seem to get past 1%. I restarted and tried over and over again for the past 3 hours to no avail. I am not mad just disappointed.

Well the game is alright to some standard but for the most part it makes no sense at all when the main character is fighting a enemy that the enemy just ignores and goes straight for them like wow I played the original never have they done that another is every time I go to character creation no try to make a ninja and go to genius start bill force closes another one when geo says invincible and anyone on the square color can’t die yea worked on one stage but when I go to another my characters die why is that cause someone doesn’t know the meaning of we there is color geo you touch your invincible but apparently guess not and are screwed um let’s see I’m not saying this cause I feel the game is cheating oh no I’m saying this cause I remember that the game didn’t override and just let enemy only have invincibility

I used to be able to install this game easily but now when I get it installed I can't get past the "Download" screen, it's just stuck at 1% even though I have it connected to wifi. Don't buy this game until they fix this issue!

Don't buy. It's almost a scam. Takes forever to download the 1GB extra data. I have 400MB internet, but wasted half an hour downloading 5%. Sent refund requests to customer support but got ignored. Edit: it took three business days getting a template reply from the developer. The developer is surely reluctant issuing a refund. Edit 2: refunded after over 3 days.

Decent Port, but controls are horrid. Main thing that would improve the game is making it compatible with Bluetooth game controllers, or virtual controls on screen, rather than exclusively relying on touching where you want the character to go. It just makes an otherwise classic JRPG feel clunky. The interface just has this port DOA.

After an update the English port became the original language even though I can read a little japanese I can't switch it to the English port and also at the title after the update it became "refine". I still love the game and already in my 78 hrs of play time, please do add an English port or something

It’s pretty crazy how much work was put into making this game mobile friendly. The resolution fits the screen, lots of options to control battery sucking, auto battle, shortcuts to move around, touch friendly camera controls, and probably more that I haven’t found yet. I can’t think of another game that has gone this far to be mobile friendly, right down to the auto battling feature. It’s a game changer for grinding.

  • Great port, but one slight issue. Apr 21, 2020

    By Johnxxyzx
So happy to see such a great port of this game on IOS. Thank you! Theres a bit of clunkiness between movement and action during battle, which hopefully gets fixed. (It is minor in comparison to those of you who have played the IOS port of FInal Fantasy Tactics) The shortcut menu and auto battle mode are an absolute gamechanger in regards to grinding. Awesome addition. My only major complaint is that i can’t listen to music or podcasts while playing. The game disables all background programs. Is there a way to fix this? There is no icon under general settings to change this option as many other games have. Again, a great port, but i like listening to podcasts, audiobooks, music, rather than the music of a game ive played through multiple times on other platforms. For the price, this should be an option. Thanks again.

I love the saga of Disgaea and it’s really awesome to have the opportunity to play everywhere, anywhere just by getting out ur phone and open the app but there’s some bug I will love for the developers to get fixed for the game to be better to play it kinda have a bug that closes the game out of nowhere and it’s starts since the last save at least u don’t lose all that u have done but some missions u got to do them again because the game closes without saving what you were doing.

Some problems were present at launch on my note8 . But it got better . The gameplay itself ia stellar and has a lot of modernisation in it that makes the grind not a problem as there are auto battles and stuff ;) Great game overall.

Best mobile game I've ever played, really really fun. Highly recommend. The only issue I have with it is that sometimes when you do Item World or Dark Assembly, the game crashes.
  • Good port but could be better Feb 19, 2020

So the game has all the strengths of the original release but has one failing for a mobile game. Why can’t there be a quick save option especially for item world. I’ve lost several item world attempts because I had to pocket my phone and by the time I got back to the game it had lost my current game. Other than that the game is very pretty with an amazing quirky sense of humor.

Overall good, but some disappointments. It feels almost identical to the original game with some nice quality of life improvements, however this severe lack in the number of characters you can create is exceptionally disappointing.

It's Disgaea 1 but with a touch interface. I do have a little difficulty touching the exact spot to select some items, but it's not enough of a problem to hinder my enjoyment of the game. I'm using a Pixel 3 and did not have any trouble downloading the game over wifi. Hopefully they'll soon resolve the download issues others are experiencing. $32 is a lot of money to waste on a never ending download.

Update: The most recent update fixed the only graphical issue I had with the app. The support NIS has been providing is amazing. You must buy this game!!! (The only issue I have uncovered is when entering the Dark Assembly, the screen zooms in somewhat and cannot be fixed short of exiting and restarting the app. Once fixed, I will update back to 5 stars.) Fixed and updated to 5 stars. It is great to see a port done right for once. The game runs flawlessly on my iPad pro. I highly recommend this game. It is well worth the price for the amount of content available. Hopefully NIS will have the rest of the series ported over in the future.

I love these series but there are a few things... 2. The character touch mapping is off. I used a stylis and you guys need to increase the character bounding boxes by 5% because when tapping on a character you have to tap the center otherwise it doesn’t register. 3. The game should save state at all times the auto save feature is a bit faulty, unlike playstation etc, mobile games should always always save state, especially because you can get a call, overheating, battery life etc etc

The data download got stuck multiple times and could only be unstuck be restarting the all. In the end the last file couldn't even be downloaded. It says 24 MB have to be downloaded, then it loads ~50MB and crashs. The server also seems to be offline half of the day. So, until this is fixes this review will stay at 1*.
