  • *Updated* Great app, allowed time to pay! Nov 30, 2019

    By Mindthefox
So far, this app has proven to be reliable. I’ve started a new job and my second paycheck was still 5 days away when I realized that my bills would barely be out of reach. I saw an ad on tv for Dave and thought it might be a good fit for me. When asking for an advance, I saw that it could take up to 8 hours to transfer, which inclined me to do it sooner than later just in case I would find myself needing the money and not having the time to wait. Next, Dave told me I could pay it back on my next payday, but when choosing an option they only allowed me to select one of the next 2 days. Dave could tell from my transaction history that my next payday wouldn’t be for another 4 days and I had a hard time finding out what penalties I would accrue for being late. But, my phone battery was dying, and internet would be shut off if I hadn’t gone through with it, so I picked the latest possible day and moved on. Without knowing my outcome of this experience, I’d have to say that so far the app has been straightforward, honest, and very handy for personal bookkeeping. I would just like to know more about my payback options and how I can avoid making a bigger hole than I started with, or else I would give 5 stars. **update** I was not charged an extra penalty for taking a little longer to pay back my advance. This was my only concern, but now I feel like Dave has shaken my concerns and fulfills my expectations. Would recommend

I love Dave. Dave has been very helpful with interest-free advances and pay-back options. However, he can not keep up with my bank account in real-time, and is usually about 36 hours behind. This causes me to get "low balance" and "possible overdraft" alerts a lot. Also, sometimes my bills come up differently and aren't always counted as a payment, on Dave. So I also get wrong balances and budgets, quite often. Because of this, I don't rely on Dave for budgeting purposes.

I found Dave via Facebook and read a lot of comments from people making fun of the service, making it sound like people who need it don’t manage their money very well. I was curious to see what it was about and why others feel the need to make fun of people who use it, so I downloaded the app (not expecting to use it, but to just see what it was). As circumstances presented themselves, being a single mom with zero help from the other parent, and trying to provide for my kids (I work full time and go to school full time so I can put myself in a better place, but until then things are pretty tight) - I found myself facing an overdrawn check fee (I wrote a check to register my daughter for school and had something else clear my checking account that wasn’t supposed to go through, which means I didn’t have enough funds for the check I wrote). I remembered I’d installed the Dave app a couple of weeks ago and within a few minutes, I was approved for a small loan and because I paid the extra $4.99 expedite fee, the money was deposited into my bank account within the hour. Dave only charges a $1.00 fee to loan you the money plus any tip you’re willing to donate, but is not required. When your paycheck is due to deposit, Dave takes the loan and fee back out of your bank account and that’s all there is to it! It’s very easy and painless and definitely worth the $1.00 fee to not have to pay an overdraft/insufficient funds fee to your bank.

I am a natural skeptic when it comes to apps such as these, but just today I had a real-world experience that Dave helped me out with. The deets: This morning, I had an out-patient procedure at a hospital in downtown Philly. I was supposed to take my wife’s ATM card and use that for parking. I’m my haste, not only do I forget her card, but I also left my main ATM card at home, leaving me only with my phone, Apple Watch, backup ATM card and 20 bucks. After my procedure I return to the lot to discover that parking was $26 - $6 more than I had on me. Wife works 40 minutes away and no way she could text me the money through iMessage, since the lot is not ApplePay-ready. Stranded, I was, staring at my car in this lot. Then it dawned on me that on a whim, I previously downloaded this Dave app. I was very skeptical about providing my bank info, but since that is the only way to realistically obtain an advance, I submitted my banking info, verified my identity and email address, and miraculously Dave fronted me 20 bucks, on the spot. I was able to immediately withdraw it and pay for parking and drive off the lot. Without this service, instead of writing this review I would still be downtown, trying to figure out how to get my car off the lot!! I don’t foresee using this app much, but I wanted to share with you all a real-world example of this app being s lifesaver. I never knew I’d need it - until I needed it!

It takes forever and a day to get a response from customer service. Currently on day 5 for them to contact me. And don't forget they constant disconnect from your bank which causes it to lock your account from your bank. This latest problem I've been having is straight bs. Yall will get a better review when yall decide to get back to me. *update* someone finally got back to me when I contacted them again today. Now all is well. But it should never take this long for customer service to get back

This has been nothing but a hassle since i got the dave banking card. My paycheck is always late. They're always trying to take money from my old chime account that i haven't used in several months. Its a total clown show. The loan service is useful in a pinch but don't use the banking service unless you want to pay a lot of late fees because you can't pay your bills on time.

This was my first use of the app, & I chose to forego the OPTIONAL tip. I was able to get the $75 advance, with the $4.99 option to quickly get these funds, for a total of $79.99, since there is no interest charge. Today was my payment date & I was charged $91.24, because somehow an $11.25 tip was still added. The amount of the fee isn't the issue. Being charged for something I specifically declined is. I will never again do business with Dave or Dave, Inc. & strongly suggest others do the same.

Be careful. No matter where I look/speak to I cannot remove my banking information. Im sure theyre aware how tedious it is to even replace. They will automatically charge a dollar and even if they take the last 75 in your account (plus whatever tip that they try to trick you into) it'll take over a week to get another advance. I wish I could cut ties but I dont want to restart a whole new account with my bank. Just giving caution.

Never had a problem with them until this past weekend. Changing my paydate and taking money out of my account a whole week early when you've clearly been on track this whole time?? No bueno and it set off an exhausting chain of events with my bank! And guess where customer service was? Nowhere to be found!! You can't call anyone and the email I got back was some automated "Sarah" saying she was so sorry for the delay and if I needed help still to reply. I did and not a word since. Deleting.

Let’s start by saying the when I first started using this app it was working fine, now I have been trying to use it for a while now and it was stuck on the screen that said a verification for the bank account was needed and it should take two days, I’m wondering how you guys count your days because it was displaying the same message for over a month, I tried to do the process again and after I linked my bank account for the second time it took me to a screen that requires me to verify all my information again including bank account and routing numbers, once y put my information says my bank account number it’s not correct and I know what you are going to say you probably did it wrong try again, well surprise it was done multiple times and by different people now one out of two everyone it’s making the same mistake or your app has bugs, I think it’s safe to say the second option seems like the right one, I know you will give an answer saying you are really sorry and that you will look into it, save the time and use it to improve the app and please add a phone number to contact your customer service if you don’t have a card other wise it won’t let you do anything because all the options that you have online are useless or at least don’t solve my problem specially since my screen it’s stuck on the part asking for my bank information after I linked it electronically. By the way I uninstalled the application. So keep it up.

  • Reviewing the Dave App! Dec 15, 2019

    By Katie ralphs dave appli.
Hello! So my boyfriend was my resource for finding out about these apps out there that will help you with money until payday! He goes thru the app called “Earnin” which was the one I was initially going to go threw but because of all the info they needed and how long it would take I chose “The Dave” app! Now the thing that doesn’t make any sense and really makes me mad, is Earnin app borrows my boyfriend as much as he needs from his upcoming check! Which is what I was expecting and needing from Dave app! This app only gives me $20 dollars! Honestly that is just an insult and not even helpful! What is 20 bucks going to do to help me out, especially in today’s world and with 4 kids that need to be fed and a vehicle that needs gas to allow me to get to work? It is not enough money to help a family or even a single person! You need to make it available to borrow what the customer wants and or needs! They are the ones who pay it back and it’s there decision and or problem what they chose to borrow from there next check! You guys take the money right out our accounts automatically so I don’t see the issue with not allowing your customers really get the help they need. That would also make you guys more money because we as customers would tip you way more better. Please explain why it’s only 20 dollars I can borrow for 5 days until I get paid :( ? Thanks much, Kaitlyn Ralph

WOW. Like I seriously thought this was a scam. I first kept seeing videos on Facebook, and I just figured it was some gimmicky app that was trying to take peoples money, or just be so convoluted it wouldn’t be worth the hassle. But, holy hell will I tell you.. I was WRONG. A little bit of backstory, I am a current college senior, and I am awful at managing my money. I constantly have to fight overdraft fees from my bank, and as a i result I figured this app would not be able to help me. So, when I went ahead and downloaded the app I was very surprised by the clean style and interface it was designed in. It was extremely straightforward, and to my surprise it connected with my bank account in just a few seconds. To my additional surprise I learned that Dave is not just a Loan app but a finance app! It actually helps you track transactions, and warns you when your account is getting low. Once I got everything verified, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get an advance, my check is this coming Friday, Yet when I went to check, I was able to get a small amount of money advanced to my account In literally minuets! I was so impressed I immediately came to write this review. Thanks Dave! I am excited to see what the future holds: now I don’t have to bug my parents! XD Disclaimer: I am a real person, and I was just as skeptical as you were! But it really works!

So I really do enjoy this “app,” if that’s what it should be called, but I have a few opinions about it. Dave definitely helps organize finances by giving advances when needed. However, the terms of when you can take an advance, and how much you can ask for, are very unorganized. I have taken out advanced, and I have paid them all back, in full and on time, but there are stipulations that users aren’t made privy to until the “app” drops that bomb on them. For someone who is not over drafted in their own bank account, OR in the Dave app, and someone who makes their payments in full and on time, there shouldn’t be a limit on how much they can ask for, or when they can ask for it. If these limitations are there to make it easier for the user to handle their finances responsibly, there should be more leniency towards those that are in good financial standing with Dave. If I have “borrowed” money, multiple times, and paid it back in FULL, MULTIPLE times, EVERY time, the limitations should not occur. I understand the app is new, and the kinks are still being worked out, so me being as detailed as possible should benefit those working on making Dave the best it can be. Thank you for your time, and as I will continue to use Dave, I hope to see improvements that cater to users that are responsible with their usage. Place limits where they are needed, but offer opportunities to those who meet or exceed expectations.

Dave helps out when you are really in a pinch. I like how you can almost instantly get another cash advancement after paying Dave app back. It's really helped keep my Bills paid on time. What I dont like is being able to choose a different date to pay back. I have paper checks I have to go to the bank to deposit. Some days I dont have a car and cant get to the bank and am charged a huge negative fee when dave takes money out that's not there. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE MONEY TO PAY DAVE BACK THE DAY OF!

  • Great banking app Sep 22, 2020

    By Donyell M.
Get pay day advances instantly for only $5! No hassle, no joke or gimmick. Immediate online approval process and same day advances in most cases. Cash is electronically deposited to your account in just minutes. All you need is a current steady income. It’s so unbelievably quick and easy! Just download the app and follow the prompts to connect to your bank. If you have regular, recurring direct deposits from a viable source of income your bank and income are verified immediately. Only thing is you can’t get more than $75 each advance initially and the loan repayment is electronically debited on your next pay day no matter how soon that may be. The app also has a few bugs to work out. You may get error messages and have to repeat steps or start over a few times during the process of connecting to your bank and/or verifying your income. Depending on your financial institution and source of income, verification may not be immediate. It seems to take longer or be somewhat trickier to verify some banks and direct deposit pay. And it can take up to 8 hours for your advance to be deposited once it’s approved but all in all it’s still THE BEST EXPERIENCE I’ve ever had getting a pay day or online loan. It’s generally guaranteed... in no longer than a few hours if not instantly. I would give it 5 stars if not for the bugs

This is my first time using Dave and I was pleasantly surprised. My advance didn't even take a minute to hit my account and it was so easy to enroll so, so far so good. I wish there wasn't a free to get money quicker. With another app the money was instant without the fee. Update* I don't like the setup. If you aren't really looking for it you won't know what tip you're giving. I understand tips help with the app but it should be a clear choice. Borrow one amount then discover you owe more.😔

If u need $20 & want to wait 3 days to get it this is the app for u. Or you can pay an extra $4 fee & get your $20 in 8 hours. I gave it 3 stars B/C the stipulations are just ridiculous & Dave's advertisements are very misleading. Read The Fine Print! I been getting direct deposit weekly into this same bank account for almost a year & I'm still unable to borrow $100 from dave. If I made as much $ as It wants some1 to make in order to get the full $100, I wouldn't need a loan in the 1st place!!!

  • Great at First, But Eventually Experiences Issues Oct 3, 2019

    By kcaftxga
Initially I was skeptical to install and use an app requiring entry of my banking account info, but after reading dozens of mostly-positive reviews I decided to give it a try. Entering my bank account info and inputting my paycheck schedule was quick and easy, and not long after the verification was completed I requested and received a $75 cash advance. Over the course of a couple months I requested and received three $75 advances, each of which was paid from my checking account on the scheduled date. However, this week I attempted another advance but the app reflected it did not register my most recent paycheck, thereby limiting to $20 the amount I could advance. Upon trying to update the paycheck schedule (which has NOT changed, mind you), the app informed me it could not offer advances based on manual paycheck entry. This issue was something I read in many reviews, but I opted to continue with the installation and use of the app. Now, due to the frustrating glitch in the app’s ability to record my always-on-time paychecks and other, static monthly deposits, there really is no point in keeping the app on my phone. Currently I am evaluating the use of other, similar apps, as I see no need to maintain the Dave app because it no longer properly records my paycheck information. I’m glad I waited to write a review because it allowed me to experience both its pros and cons.

Well I’ve used this service 3 times and the first two times I’ve gotten my money right away by paying the three dollars. But on my third time using it I paid the three dollars and it said it was deposited in my account I confirmed it and then the next morning it was gone and they still said it was going to be paid back on my next payday but yet I had no money from them and it put my account in the negative. Later on the second day I received a message saying it was sent and should be there soon and asking for a review but yet I still don’t have what I asked for they say it was sent the bank can find no records for it. Needless to say I’m not happy. Also the way they kinda trick you into adding a tip is kinda shady they should put a close button on the screen if you do not want to include a tip. And the default is 15% if you don’t pay attention you will pay back plus the 15%. Now for me if I’m hurting for money and need to borrow some this is an awesome service but 15% is kinda high if a person is strapped for cash. In the end I still have not received the money in my account and I paid for the quick deposit. If it does not show up by the day before I get paid I’ll lock my account so they cannot take money out in case they try.

  • Good App, just a step behind the competition. Jul 16, 2019

    By Mike Singa P.
I’m fond of this app as it’s helped me in certain situations however as I write this review I can’t help but compare it to its competitors. The backend system cannot account for split direct deposits, If you receive a split direct deposit between checking and savings account in this $800 and $900. The system will only recognize your payroll as $800 thus potentially impacting your borrowing ability. Dave also is not capable of understanding update to date balances, so if your account WAS negative even for a day and now has a balance of $500. It would take days before allowing you to borrow funds, simply because “your account is too low to bring to positive”. Finally there’s is no real time support like Earnin App, where you can chat and get questions answered immediately. I’ve sent in a ticket to Dave 8 hours ago and haven’t heard back and while one may say they need more time and one must bear personal financial responsibility, times are tough, meaning time is crucial. Positive feedback I hope you can take away from this, I love the idea and the app, however like the title says in comparison to your competitors which I do not work or have any interest in are better in terms of convenience. Thanks Guys!

This app sucks, it still has issues with verifying accounts for Advance. The app says it takes "3 business days or so" to verify your bank account, however it really takes 2 weeks or more if at all! The app is really buggy and needs work. What is promised to the user from the app is over sold and sketchy. I currently use a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and the latest Android OS. Not impressed at all and I cant even use the service at all....Dont waste your time downloading.

  • My review of Dave.. Aug 9, 2018

    By SaeDDee
When I first downloaded the app I was quite skeptical about it. After a couple of days I decided to go ahead and see what the fuss was about. Everything seemed like it was going smoothly and I want to head and requested a small amount of money to be deposited into my account. I opted to choose the express delivery because then I would receive the money in eight hours or less. Well it has been over eight hours and almost an entire 24 hours and I still have not received the money. I am very disappointed because I paid the extra $1.99 and I do believe that if I paid for that and then I should have received the money quicker. I tried to cancel but of course it won’t let me because it says that I have a loan out. I would love to know how I have a loan out if I never received the money in the first place. I have contacted support and they have not gotten back with me yet which is understandable because I’m sure this isn’t the first time this has happened. I would love to use the Dave app and I would love for it to work the way that it says it will but for now I will no longer be using it if I do not receive the money I requested. Also if I do not receive the money and it auto takes out of my bank account I will be highly frustrated.

I count on you to give me an advance because sometimes we are really low until next paycheck. That’s what the service if for. I’ve successfully paid you back every single time I’ve gotten an advance. You’ve made plenty of money off of me. And now you’re telling me you can only give me 20 when I was expecting to get the normal 75 I always get. You’ve just screwed me and my family out of money for the rest of the week. We were expecting the advance and you just screwed us. I’ve paid you 80 dollars every single time you advance me so you’ve made quite a bit of money off of me and now you’re gonna tell me this? I don’t keep money in my account because you take 80 every single time I get paid. I have other bills I need to pay. Not to mention the fact that I’ve never been able to get more than 75 from you when you guys claim to be able to advance 100 right on your description. You guys have done this to me more than once and beg for a review, along with a tip on top of the 5 dollars extra you take from me. So here’s your review. Thanks for screwing my family and I for the next week. With only being able to give me a measly 20 dollars when I’ve paid on time every single time. Thanks.

  • Scammy Jun 6, 2019

While this app does deliver (one of) it’s promised claims of providing payday advances, it also takes money when it shouldn’t. I’ve used it twice for cash advances twice, and it has delivered that money, but it took “tip” money when I specifically set the tip amount to zero. I’ve repeatedly set that parameter, and it ALWAYS resets itself to $10, no matter how many times I adjust it. This is pretty scammy as far as I’m concerned, there is no excuse for it, and there is absolutely NO customer service available to fix this problem. The “tip” supposedly goes towards planting trees somewhere, and this is something I refuse to contribute to, as I already allocate my own money towards charity causes, and I’m obviously using this cash advance function because I’m very low on money and I can’t afford to spend it on such things at the moment; plus, the amount of money I’m paying for the advance is plenty high enough (6.7%) without paying an additional “tip”. I’ve sent feedback through the app, and got no response whatsoever, thus I have no choice but to come here and give their app a bad review in order to get their attention this way. My advice: shop around for different apps before downloading this one.

  • Loved the idea, but to many issues Nov 28, 2018

I thought I’d give this a try just to see if it would work in a pinch! I was able to connect to my bank and after a day or two I was advanced a small amount! It worked! I thought it was great for when I may need it in a pinch! But when came time to pay back the small amount it kept kicking me off my connection with my bank over n over ! Days of calling and trying to get resolved they withdrew the amount owed (nearly a week later) I was panicking of course cause it was nothing on my end! Spoke to my bank and was told it was the app itself that was the issue, but because of all this they lowered my borrow amount to $5 why would I borrow $5 and pay that fee??? Then got charged the $1 monthly fee, fine ! But two days later was charged $1 again! I can’t get any response to my inquiries! I want to cancel this app and NOT be charged $1 every other day! The $5 borrowing isn’t worth the fee , especially when my amount was lowered for something I had nothing to do with! I find it very sneaky that it kept disconnecting from my bank then finally connects after a week and makes more charges then should be! Wish customer service would help!
